AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Existing recording devices waste paper when avoiding printing on splice portions by transporting sheets past the recording head, leading to increased paper usage.
Method used
A recording apparatus with a splice detection system that controls sheet conveyance to avoid printing on splices by adjusting the pre-ejection transport amount, ensuring the splice is not present in the recording area before initiating ink ejection.
Benefits of technology
Reduces paper waste by preventing unnecessary transport and potential damage to the recording head, maintaining conveyance accuracy, and minimizing paper waste.

Abstract
To reduce an amount of waste paper in a recording device for carrying a sheet, when a joint of sheets is detected.SOLUTION: Sheets supplied from a roll are carried by first carrier means and second carrier means downstream of the first carrier means. A pre-discharge carrying amount of the sheets is carried, while a splice part which is a joint between the sheets is detected by a sensor. When the splice part is not detected while the pre-discharge carrying amount of the sheets is carried, the pre-discharge carrying amount is changed in control for starting a discharge of liquid from a head to the sheet.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
