Claims

1. A pharmaceutical composition for treating neurodegenerative diseases comprising acetylleucine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, wherein the neurodegenerative disease includes REM sleep disorder associated with Lewy body dementia.

2. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1, wherein the acetylleucine is acetyl-DL-leucine.

3. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1, wherein the acetylleucine has an enantiomer excess of the L-enantiomer or D-enantiomer.

4. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1, wherein the acetylleucine is acetyl-L-leucine.

5. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1, wherein the therapeutically effective amount of acetylleucine is approximately 1 g to approximately 15 g per day.

6. A pharmaceutical composition for treating a neurodegenerative disease comprising acetylleucine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient, wherein the neurodegenerative disease is spinocerebellar degeneration (SCA) 28, wherein the acetylleucine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

7. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6, wherein the administration of a therapeutically effective amount of acetyl-leucine is initiated when the subject is asymptomatic.

8. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 7, wherein the first dose is administered after the subject is found to have genetic and / or biochemical markers for neurodegenerative disease.

9. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6, wherein the acetylleucine is acetyl-DL-leucine.

10. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6, wherein the acetylleucine has an enantiomer excess of the L-enantiomer or D-enantiomer.

11. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6, wherein the acetylleucine is acetyl-L-leucine.

12. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6, wherein the therapeutically effective amount of acetylleucine is approximately 1 g to approximately 15 g per day.
