AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Customers lack control over when and how resources are deployed in cloud environments due to varying uptime and security/compliance needs, leading to deployment schedules that may not align with individual customer requirements.

Method used

Implementing tenant-defined partition-specific deployment constraints alongside global deployment constraints, allowing tenants to manage resource deployments dynamically based on partition-specific state information while ensuring compliance with CSP-defined rules.

Benefits of technology

Enables tenants to control resource deployments according to their specific needs, balancing individual requirements with global constraints for efficient and compliant cloud resource management.

Abstract

This document discloses a technology for controlling resource deployments in cloud partitions of a cloud environment. A cloud service provider (CSP) operates a cloud environment in which its customers can specify constraints on deployments to their respective partitions (i.e., regions or realms). Partition-specific deployment constraints are rules that restrict the changes / updates that can be made to one or more specific partitions. Partition-specific deployment constraints apply to at least one partition, but may apply to multiple partitions. For example, partition-specific deployment constraints may apply to one or more regions within a realm. Partition-specific deployment constraints are evaluated at deployment time using the most recent state or a curated subset of the state for at least one specific partition. A global deployment orchestrator orchestrates the deployment at least partially based on whether the deployment satisfies the partition-specific constraints in the target partition.
