Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of display technology, and more particularly to a display panel with a smooth luminance change curve observed under different viewing angles. [Background technology]
[0002] Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display panels have advantages such as a wide viewing angle and a wide color gamut, and are attracting attention and being developed by major display device manufacturers as a mainstream display panel. In order to further increase the color point luminous efficiency of the OLED display panel, the structure and manufacturing process of the OLED device in the OLED display panel are being improved.
[0003] Based on different manufacturing methods, the OLED device is mainly divided into deposition OLED device and printing OLED device, each of which has different technical advantages. However, due to the influence of manufacturing dimensional tolerance or production yield, in both deposition OLED device and printing OLED device, it is impossible to completely match the recombination position of excitons formed by electrons and holes in the light-emitting layer with the design requirement. Therefore, when the recombination position of the excitons is shifted from the predetermined position, the maximum brightness of the light emitted by the excitons may not be observed at a viewing angle of 0 degrees (when the observer looks directly at the OLED display panel), but may be observed at a side viewing angle (when the observer looks at the OLED display panel from the side). Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0004] Please refer to FIG. 1. FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the relationship between luminance and viewing angle of an OLED display panel in the prior art. In theory, the luminance of the conventional OLED display panel is observed at a maximum value at a viewing angle of 0 degrees, i.e., the luminance value at a viewing angle of 0 degrees is 100%, and it is assumed that the luminance gradually decreases with the inclination of the viewing angle. As shown by the luminance observation results at different viewing angles in FIG. 1, the luminance observed at a viewing angle of about plus and minus 30 degrees of the conventional OLED display panel is actually higher than the luminance observed at a viewing angle of 0 degrees.
[0005] The recombination position of the excitons in the light-emitting layer in the conventional OLED device is not fixed, which causes the phenomenon of bright waves in the brightness vs. viewing angle diagram, resulting in the OLED display panel having uneven brightness curves observed under different viewing angles. Moreover, regardless of whether the viewing angle is horizontal or vertical, the problem of bright waves is observed in both cases, which affects the viewing experience of users.
[0006] In the prior art, in order to solve the problem of the exciton recombination position being uncertain in the light-emitting layer of the OLED device, the material constituting the light-emitting layer is generally replaced or a new transport layer is added to further restrict the exciton recombination position. However, while the prior art improves the accuracy of the exciton recombination position, it increases the manufacturing process of the OLED display device and may reduce the light-emitting efficiency of the OLED device. [Means for solving the problem]

[0041] In order that the above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention may be more clearly understood, preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
[0042] Please refer to Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a schematic diagram of a laminated structure of a display panel according to the present invention. The display panel according to the present invention includes a light-emitting substrate 100 and an optical layer 200. The light-emitting substrate 100 has a light-emitting surface 110. The optical layer 200 has a prism 210 disposed on the light-emitting surface 110 of the light-emitting substrate 100, which refracts light emitted from the light-emitting substrate.
[0043] In this embodiment, the light emitting substrate 100 is an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display substrate. However, the light emitting substrate 100 of the display panel according to the present invention is not limited thereto and may include a liquid crystal display substrate, a quantum dot display substrate, a mini-LED substrate, a micro-LED substrate, or the like.
[0044] Please refer to Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a schematic diagram showing a three-dimensional structure of a prism 210 in the optical layer 200 according to the present invention. The prism in the optical layer 200 has a bottom surface 211, a top surface 212, and a number of side surfaces 213 connecting the bottom surface 211 and the top surface 212. The bottom surface 211 and the top surface 212 are parallel to the light-emitting substrate 100 shown in Fig. 2. The bottom surface 211 is close to the light-emitting substrate 100. The top surface 212 is away from the light-emitting substrate 100.
[0045] In the present invention, an optical simulation test of the prism 210 of the optical layer 200 is performed according to the brightness-viewing angle relationship diagram of a conventional organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display panel shown in FIG. 1, and a prism structure is designed that can eliminate the brightness bright wave phenomenon observed in FIG. 1.
[0046] Through the optical simulation test, in the present invention, the area of the top surface 212 of the prism 210 is made smaller than the area of the bottom surface 211, so that all of the side surfaces 213 of the prism 210 are inclined toward the inside of the prism 210, thereby forming a prism structure that is wide at the bottom and narrow at the top.
[0047] As shown in FIG. 3, in one embodiment, the bottom surface 211 of the prism 210 can be rectangular, and the top surface 212 of the prism 210 can also be rectangular accordingly. The rectangular bottom surface 211 includes four sides A, B, C, and D that face each other in a pair. Among the multiple side surfaces 213 of the prism 210, two side surfaces 213 in a pair of facing sides A / C or another pair of facing sides B / D that connect the bottom surface 211 and the top surface 212 are symmetrical to each other. In other words, the shape of the side surface 213 located on side A is symmetrical to the shape of the side surface 213 located on side C, or the shape of the side surface 213 located on side B is symmetrical to the shape of the side surface 213 located on side D.
[0048] In this embodiment, the prism 210 may be a trapezoidal columnar prism 210 as shown in FIG. 3. Each side surface 213 of the prism 210 includes, but is not limited to, a flat surface. The present invention exemplarily provides the prism 210 including the side surfaces 213 each having a different shape, see FIG. 4 and FIG. 5. FIG. 4 and FIG. 5 are schematic diagrams showing the three-dimensional structures of other two types of prisms 210 in the optical layer 200 according to the present invention. Each side surface 213 of the prism 210 further includes a plurality of sub-flat surfaces 213', that is, each side surface 213 is a compound surface having a plurality of flat surfaces.
[0049] As shown in Fig. 4, each side surface 213 of the prism 210 further includes two sub-planes 213', i.e., each side surface 213 is bent by one degree to form the sub-planes 213' with two inclination angles. As shown in Fig. 5, each side surface 213 of the prism 210 further includes five sub-planes 213', i.e., each side surface 213 is bent by four degrees to form the sub-planes 213' with five inclination angles.
[0050] Through the optical simulation test, the present invention can obtain a prism structure that can eliminate the luminance unevenness phenomenon observed in FIG. 1. The following description will be given by taking the structure of the prism 210 shown in FIG. 4 as an example. Please refer to FIG. 6. FIG. 6 is a side view of the prism 210 shown in FIG. 4. In the optimized values obtained in the optical simulation test, the distance D1 between the bottom surface 211 and the top surface 212 of the prism 210 is in the range of 5 to 50 μm (micrometer, μm), and is preferably 20 μm. At the same time, the optimized width W of the bottom surface 211 of the prism 210 is in the range of 5 to 50 μm, and is preferably 15 μm. In this configuration, the prism 210 can effectively perform the work according to the design of the optical simulation test in a limited space without excessively increasing the thickness or weight of the display panel.
[0051] Furthermore, the optical simulation test also optimizes the shape of each side surface 213 of the prism 210 of the present invention. Among the multiple sub-flat surfaces 213' of each side surface 213 of the prism 210, the normal directions of two adjacent sub-flat surfaces 213' are different. Also, the included angle θ between the average normal direction of each side surface 213 of the prism 213 and the normal direction N1 of the bottom surface 211 is within a range of 50 to 85 degrees.
[0052] As shown in FIG. 6, in one embodiment, two adjacent sub-planes 213' have two normal directions N2 and N3 with different angles. Since the directions of the normal direction N2 and the normal direction N3 are different, each side surface 213 has two sub-planes 213' with different inclination angles. At the same time, the included angle θ between the normal direction N2 or the normal direction N3 of any of the sub-planes 213' and the normal direction N1 of the bottom surface 211 is within a range of 50 to 85 degrees; or, the included angle θ between the average normal direction of the normal direction N2 and the normal direction N3 of the sub-planes 213' and the normal direction N1 of the bottom surface 211 is within a range of 50 to 85 degrees.
[0053] Please refer to FIG. 7. FIG. 7 is a schematic diagram showing the optical principle of the prism 210 in FIG. 4. The prism 210 according to the present invention, which has undergone the optical simulation test, can improve the exit direction of the light ray 120 emitted from the light emitting surface 110 of the light emitting substrate 100 shown in FIG. 2 based on the optimized values. FIG. 7 shows the situation when the light ray 120 is incident on the bottom surface 211 of the prism 210 in the optical layer 200. Since the bottom surface 211 and the top surface 212 of the prism 210 are parallel to the light emitting substrate 100, a part of the light ray 120 emitted from the top surface 212 maintains the original incident direction. Furthermore, since the inclination angles of the side surfaces 213 have already been optimized for the brightness-viewing angle relationship diagram of the OLED display panel of the prior art, a part of the light ray 120 emitted from the side surfaces 213 is refracted at a specific angle designed in the optical simulation test. Therefore, the light ray 120 having a side viewing angle that causes the brightness fluctuation in FIG. 1 is partially dispersed to another side viewing angle by the prism 210, thereby eliminating the brightness fluctuation phenomenon that appears in the brightness-viewing angle relationship diagram in the conventional OLED display panel.
[0054] Please refer to Fig. 8. Fig. 8 is a diagram showing the relationship between brightness and viewing angle in the display panel according to the present invention. By optimizing the light beam 120 emitted from the light emitting substrate 100 by the prism 210 of the optical layer 200 according to the present invention, the display panel according to the present invention can obtain the brightness-viewing angle diagram shown in Fig. 8. The brightness of the light emitting substrate 100 is set so that the maximum value is observed at a viewing angle of 0 degrees, that is, the brightness value at a viewing angle of 0 degrees is 100%. As can be seen from the curve in the figure, the brightness of the display panel according to the present invention gradually decreases with the inclination of the viewing angle, that is, the change curve of the brightness observed under different viewing angles is smooth.
[0055] The optical layer 200 of the present invention refracts the light ray 120 at a viewing angle of about plus or minus 30 degrees in the light emitting substrate 100, and refracts the light ray 120 to a larger viewing angle. Therefore, compared with FIG. 1, the brightness-viewing angle curve of FIG. 8 shows that the display panel is observed to have the maximum brightness at a viewing angle of 0 degrees, and the brightness observed by the display panel gradually decreases as the viewing angle increases. Therefore, the display panel of the present invention smoothly decreases the brightness observed by the display panel as the viewing angle increases under the action of the prisms 210 of the optical layer 200. In this way, the display panel having a smooth change curve of the brightness observed under different viewing angles is obtained, which can improve the problem caused by the uncertainty of the recombination position of the exciton in the light emitting layer of the OLED device in the prior art OLED display panel, and optimize the viewing experience of the user.
[0056] In the present invention, the optical layer 200 may further include a plurality of the prisms 210 as shown in Figures 3 to 5 arranged on the light emitting surface 110 of the light emitting substrate 100. In the following, an embodiment in which each of the side surfaces 213 of each of the prisms 210 includes two of the sub-planes 213' will be described as an example.
[0057] Please refer to Fig. 9. Fig. 9 is a schematic diagram showing an arrangement of a plurality of the prisms 210 in the optical layer 200 according to the present invention. In one embodiment, the prisms 210 of the optical layer 200 each have a long strip shape, and the plurality of prisms 210 are arranged at intervals along a first direction 131 on the light-emitting surface 110 of the light-emitting substrate 100. Note that the first direction 131 may be one coordinate axis of a Cartesian coordinate system of the light-emitting surface 110, but is not limited thereto, and may be any direction.
[0058] In this embodiment, when a plurality of long strip-shaped prisms 210 are arranged along the one-dimensional first direction 131, each of the prisms 210 can partially refract the light ray 120 emitted from the light emitting substrate 100 toward the positive and negative directions of the first direction 131. Furthermore, through optimization by optical simulation tests, the distance between two adjacent prisms 210 arranged in the present invention is within the range of 5 to 50 μm, and preferably 10 μm. By appropriately adjusting the distance between two adjacent prisms 210, it is possible to avoid problems such as the light ray 120 emitted from one of the side surfaces 213 of one of the prisms 210 entering the other prism 210, causing the light ray 120 to be refracted multiple times, or interfering with the light ray 120 emitted from another direction. At the same time, by appropriately adjusting the distance between two adjacent prisms 210, the optical layer 200 can maximize the improvement of the luminance change curve observed under different viewing angles on the display panel.
[0059] Therefore, the luminance observed at the display panel can be smoothly decreased as the viewing angle increases in the positive and negative directions of the first direction 131. In this way, the display panel can be obtained in which the change curve of the luminance observed under different viewing angles in the positive and negative directions of the first direction 131 is smooth, optimizing the viewing experience of the user.
[0060] In addition, the long strip-shaped prism 210 in this embodiment may be arranged corresponding to one row of pixel points of the light emitting substrate 100, or may be arranged corresponding to multiple rows of pixel points, so that the light rays 120 of the multiple pixel points can be individually optimized. Note that, since any arrangement manner of the multiple prisms 210 provides the above-mentioned technical effects based on the design by the optical simulation test, the arrangement manner of the multiple prisms 210 does not need to correspond to the multiple pixel points of the light emitting substrate 100. In other words, the optical layer 200 of the present invention can be applied to any kind of light emitting substrate, and has a fairly high degree of flexibility in manufacturing.
[0061] Please refer to Fig. 10. Fig. 10 is a schematic diagram showing another aspect in which a plurality of the prisms 210 are arranged in the optical layer 200 according to the present invention. In one embodiment, the prisms 210 of the optical layer 200 each have a tower shape, and the plurality of prisms 210 are arranged in an array along the first direction 131 and the second direction 132 on the light-emitting surface 110 of the light-emitting substrate 100. Note that the second direction 132 and the first direction 131 are perpendicular to each other, and the first direction 131 and the second direction 132 may be two mutually perpendicular coordinate axes of the Cartesian coordinate system of the light-emitting surface 110, but are not limited thereto, and may be any two mutually perpendicular directions.
[0062] In this embodiment, the bottom surface 211 and the top surface 212 of each tower-shaped prism 210 are square, and the shapes of the four side surfaces 213 of each tower-shaped prism 210 are all the same, and each pair is symmetrical to each other. When a plurality of tower-shaped prisms 210 are arranged in an array along the first direction 131 and the second direction 132, which are two-dimensional, each of the prisms 210 can partially refract the light ray 120 emitted from the light-emitting substrate 100 toward the positive and negative directions of the first direction 131 and toward the positive and negative directions of the second direction 132. Furthermore, through optimization by optical simulation tests, the distance between two adjacent prisms 210 arranged in the present invention is within a range of 5 to 50 μm, and preferably 10 μm. By appropriately adjusting the distance between two adjacent prisms 210, it is possible to avoid problems such as the light ray 120 emitted from one side surface 213 of one of the prisms 210 entering the other prism 210, causing the light ray 120 to be refracted multiple times, or interfering with the light ray 120 emitted from another direction, etc. At the same time, by appropriately adjusting the distance between two adjacent prisms 210, the optical layer 200 can maximize the improvement of the luminance change curve observed under different viewing angles on the display panel.
[0063] Therefore, the luminance observed at the display panel can be smoothly decreased as the viewing angle increases in the positive direction and the negative direction of the first direction 131 and the positive direction and the negative direction of the second direction 132. In this way, the display panel in which the change curve of the luminance observed under different viewing angles in the positive direction and the negative direction of the first direction 131 and the positive direction and the negative direction of the second direction 132 is smooth is obtained, and the viewing experience of the user can be optimized.
[0064] In addition, the tower-shaped prism 210 in this embodiment may be arranged to correspond to the pixel points of the light emitting substrate 100 in a one-to-one or one-to-multiple manner, so that the light rays 120 of the multiple pixel points can be individually optimized.
[0065] In the present invention, when forming the prisms 210 of the optical layer 200, the material of the prisms 210 includes resin, and the prisms 210 are formed by an embossing process or a photolithography process. In the present invention, when designing the structure of the prisms through the optical simulation test, the characteristics of the material of the prisms 210 are also taken into consideration, such as the influence of the refractive index or light transmittance of the material on the deflection angle of the light ray 120 emitted from the light emitting substrate 100.
[0066] After forming the prisms 210 of the optical layer 200, a sealing adhesive is filled between the prisms 210, and the optical layer 200 is formed flat. Please refer to FIG. 11 and FIG. 12. FIG. 11 and FIG. 12 are schematic diagrams showing two other stacking structures of the display panel according to the present invention. The optical layer 200 of the present invention can also be used in the manufacture of the display panel. In one embodiment, as shown in FIG. 11, after forming the light-emitting substrate 100, the prisms 210 of the optical layer 200 can be directly formed thereon, and after filling the prisms 210 flat with the sealing adhesive, the manufacturing process of the display panel can be continued, for example, by providing a sealing cover 300 on the optical layer 200. In another embodiment, as shown in FIG. 12, after the manufacture of the display panel of the prior art is completed, that is, the sealing cover 300 has already been provided on the light-emitting substrate 100, the optical layer 200 formed separately can be attached on the sealing cover 300, which provides flexibility in the manufacture of the display panel.
[0067] The present invention provides a display panel in which the change curve of the luminance observed under different viewing angles is smooth. The optical layer 200 in the display panel is provided on the light-emitting surface 110 of the light-emitting substrate 100, and the prism 210 of the optical layer 200 has a plurality of inclined side surfaces 213 that can refract the light ray 120 emitted from the light-emitting substrate 100. Furthermore, each side surface 213 of the prism 210 can include one plane or a plurality of sub-planes 213' having different angles, so that the luminance-viewing angle curve of the display panel according to the present invention can be optimized and the problem of luminance unevenness in the prior art can be eliminated. In addition, in order to improve the technical effect of the optical layer 200 in the horizontal viewing angle or the vertical viewing angle, the optical layer 200 further includes a plurality of the prisms 210 arranged at intervals along the first direction 131 on the light-emitting surface 110 of the light-emitting substrate 100, or arranged in an array along the first direction 131 and the second direction 132 perpendicular to each other. Due to the technical effect and manufacturing versatility of the optical layer 200, the optical layer 200 designed by the optical simulation test can be applied to any kind of display panel and can optimize the user's viewing experience.
[0068] The above is merely a preferred embodiment of the present invention, and those skilled in the art may make some improvements and modifications without departing from the principles of the present invention, and these improvements and modifications should also be considered as falling within the scope of protection of the present invention.
