Blockchain-enabled method and system

Abstract

A method and corresponding system for controlling access to and / or usage of Internet-enabled resources is provided. In a system 100 utilizing an electronic ledger such as the Bitcoin blockchain, access to an IoT device that is permitted or enabled by providing a cryptographic key, such as a private key corresponding to a public key stored in memory, is prevented or disabled by deleting the public key from memory and using the tokenized output of a first blockchain transaction using a redeem script for a second blockchain transaction. The IoT device verifies that the public key in the message matches the one stored in memory, and if so, deletes the stored version of the public key from memory and then performs detokenization using the redeem script.
