AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The prior art is difficult to produce large ceramic bodies with high purity and high density, and the ceramic materials are fragile under large sizes and are difficult to heat evenly at high temperatures, resulting in uneven density and insufficient mechanical strength.

Method used

Rocket fuel injection technology with pulsed electromagnetic field boosting is adopted, combined with the piezoelectric effect of ceramic powder at high temperatures, and the heating and compaction process of ceramic powder is precisely controlled to achieve high density and high purity molding of large ceramic bodies.

Benefits of technology

It realizes high density and high purity molding of large ceramic bodies, improves the mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of ceramic materials, and solves the problem of brittleness of ceramic materials under large sizes.

Abstract

A method of making a sintered ceramic body includes placing ceramic powder within an interior volume of a spark plasma discharge tool, the tool comprising: a die including a sidewall with an inner wall and an outer wall, the inner wall having a diameter defining an interior volume; and upper and lower punches operatively coupled to the die, each of the punches having an outer wall defining a diameter smaller than the diameter of the die inner wall, thereby creating a gap between the punch and the interior wall when at least one of the punches is moved within the interior volume, the gap being between 10 μm and 70 μm in width; creating a vacuum within the interior volume; moving at least one of the punches to apply pressure to the ceramic powder while heating to sinter it; and reducing the temperature of the sintered body.
