[0023] An embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings. The scale and aspect ratios of the drawings attached to this specification have been changed and exaggerated from those of the actual objects for ease of illustration and understanding.

[0024] The term "plate surface" refers to the surface that coincides with the planar direction of the target plate-like member when viewed from an overall and global perspective. The same applies when "plate" is read as "sheet" or "film."

[0025] The "planar view" of a plate-like member means observing the plate-like member in question from the normal direction of the plate surface.

[0026] Terms used in this specification that specify shapes and geometric conditions and their degrees, such as "parallel," "orthogonal," and "identical," as well as values of lengths and angles, are not limited to strict meanings and are interpreted to include a range of degrees within which similar functions can be expected.

[0027] Hereinafter, a plurality of embodiments of the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 will be described. The same reference numerals will be used for corresponding parts in the respective embodiments, and overlapping descriptions will be omitted.

[0028] 1 is a plan view of a light control component 1 with a wiring board according to a first embodiment. The light control component 1 with a wiring board includes a light control component 20 and a wiring board 10. The wiring board 10 is connected to the light control component 20.

[0029] The wiring board 10 connects the light control member 20 to an electrical component such as an external power supply. Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the wiring board 10. As shown in Fig. 2, the wiring board 10 includes a substrate 11, a first wiring 13, and a second wiring 15. The wiring board 10 further includes a first conductive adhesive layer 17 and a second conductive adhesive layer 19.

[0030] The substrate 11 supports the first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15. The substrate 11 is thin and has a first surface 11A and a second surface 11B. The second surface 11B is the surface opposite to the first surface 11A. The first surface 11A and the second surface 11B are the main surfaces of the substrate 11. The substrate 11 has a shape that matches the shapes of the first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 that it supports. The substrate 11 has a thickness that adequately supports the first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 and does not make the wiring substrate 10 too thick. The thickness of the substrate 11 is, for example, 10 μm or more and 30 μm or less. The material of the substrate 11 is, for example, polyimide, modified polyimide, transparent polyimide, liquid crystal polymer, cycloolefin polymer, polyethylene terephthalate, polytetrafluoroethylene, or polyphenylene ether.

[0031] The substrate 11 extends between a position where the first connection portion 14 is provided and a position where the second connection portion 16 is provided. As shown in FIG. 1 , the substrate 11 extends between a first terminal portion 37 and a second terminal portion 47, which will be described later, in a plan view of the light control component 20. A notch 11C is provided in the substrate 11 between the position where the first connection portion 14 is provided and the position where the second connection portion 16 is provided. Except for the portion where the notch 11C is provided, a peripheral edge 11E of the substrate 11 facing a first main portion 35 and a second main portion 45, which will be described later, has a linear shape. Such a wiring substrate 10 can be easily arranged in the light control component 20.

[0032] The first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 electrically connect the light adjusting component 20 to external electrical components. The first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 are electrically independent. The first wiring 13 includes a first connection portion 14. The first connection portion 14 connects to a first terminal portion 37 (described later) of the light adjusting component 20. The first connection portion 14 is provided on the first surface 11A of the substrate 11. The second wiring 15 includes a second connection portion 16. The second connection portion 16 connects to a second terminal portion 47 (described later) of the light adjusting component 20. The second connection portion 16 is provided on the second surface 11B of the substrate 11. The second wiring 15 is provided on the second surface 11B of the substrate 11 at the second connection portion 16, but other portions may be provided on the first surface 11A of the substrate 11. For example, the second wiring 15 may extend from the second surface 11B to the first surface 11A of the substrate 11 through a through hole provided in the substrate 11. The first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 are made of, for example, copper. The thickness of the first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 is, for example, 10 μm or more and 30 μm or less. The thickness of the first wiring 13 and the thickness of the second wiring 15 may be the same or different from each other.

[0033] The first conductive adhesive layer 17 is provided on the first connecting portion 14 and connects the first connecting portion 14 to the light adjusting component 20. More specifically, the first conductive adhesive layer 17 fixes the first electrode 33 and the first connecting portion 14 so as to electrically connect them at a first terminal portion 37 (described later) of the light adjusting component 20. The second conductive adhesive layer 19 is provided on the second connecting portion 16 and connects the second connecting portion 16 to the light adjusting component 20. More specifically, the second conductive adhesive layer 19 fixes the second electrode 43 and the second connecting portion 16 so as to electrically connect them at a second terminal portion 47 (described later) of the light adjusting component 20. The first conductive adhesive layer 17 and the second conductive adhesive layer 19 are, for example, anisotropic conductive films (ACFs), anisotropic conductive pastes (ACPs), or anisotropic conductive adhesives (ACAs).

[0034] The light control component 20 is capable of adjusting visible light transmittance. The visible light transmittance that the light control component 20 can achieve is, for example, 2% to 40%. The light control component 20 is electrically connected to external electrical components via the wiring board 10. The light control component 20 is a plate-shaped component. The thickness of the light control component 20 is, for example, 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm. The light control component 20 can be used, for example, as a component for dividing space. Specific examples of the light control component 20 include windows and windshields for vehicles such as automobiles, trains, ships, and airplanes, windows for buildings such as exterior walls, interior walls, and doors, transparent portions of partitions, and sun visors for vehicles such as automobiles. The light control component 20 is used by being attached to a transparent component such as glass or sandwiched between transparent components such as glass. In the example shown in FIG. 1 , the light control component 20 has a rectangular shape in a plan view, but may have any shape.

[0035] In this specification, visible light transmittance is specified as the average value of the total light transmittance at each wavelength when measured in 1 nm increments within a wavelength range of 380 nm to 780 nm using a spectrophotometer (Shimadzu Corporation's "UV-3600i Plus," compliant with JIS K0115). The angle of incidence when measuring visible light transmittance is set to 0° unless a particular transmission direction is specified. The angle of incidence is the angle between the normal to the incident surface and the traveling direction of incident light, and is a value less than 90°.

[0036] FIG. 3 shows a cross-sectional view of the light control component 20 in the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 taken along line III-III in FIG. 1 . As shown in FIG. 3 , the light control component 20 includes a first electrode-equipped substrate 30, a second electrode-equipped substrate 40, a liquid crystal layer 21, and a sealing material 22. The liquid crystal layer 21 is disposed between the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second electrode-equipped substrate 40. The sealing material 22 circumferentially surrounds the liquid crystal layer 21. In the example shown in FIG. 3 , the light control component 20 further includes a first alignment film 23 and a second alignment film 24. The first alignment film 23 is disposed between the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the liquid crystal layer 21. The second alignment film 24 is disposed between the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 and the liquid crystal layer 21. The light control component 20 may include other functional layers (not shown) intended to perform specific functions.

[0037] The first electrode-equipped substrate 30 includes a first electrode 33 and a first substrate 31 that supports the first electrode 33. The first electrode 33 extends along the first substrate 31. The first electrode 33 is disposed so as to face the liquid crystal layer 21. FIG. 4 shows an enlarged view of a portion of the light adjusting component 20 that connects to the wiring substrate 10. As shown in FIG. 4, the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 includes a first main portion 35 and a first terminal portion 37. The first main portion 35 faces the liquid crystal layer 21. The first terminal portion 37 extends from the first main portion 35. The first main portion 35 and the first terminal portion 37 are located on the same plane. The first terminal portion 37 does not face the liquid crystal layer 21. FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along line V-V of the wiring substrate-equipped light adjusting component 1 of FIG. 1. 5 , in the first terminal portion 37, the first electrode 33 is connected to the first connection portion 14 of the wiring substrate 10 via the first conductive adhesive layer 17. Resin spheres contained in the first conductive adhesive layer 17 break through the first alignment film 23, thereby connecting the first electrode 33 to the first connection portion 14. The resin spheres may be metal coated. The first terminal portion 37 can be connected to the first connection portion 14 without being obstructed by the liquid crystal layer 21.

[0038] The second electrode-equipped substrate 40 includes a second electrode 43 and a second substrate 41 that supports the second electrode 43. The second electrode 43 extends along the second substrate 41. The second electrode 43 is disposed to face the liquid crystal layer 21. As shown in FIG. 4, the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 includes a second main portion 45 and a second terminal portion 47. The second main portion 45 faces the liquid crystal layer 21. The second terminal portion 47 extends from the second main portion 45. The second main portion 45 and the second terminal portion 47 are located on the same plane. The second terminal portion 47 does not face the liquid crystal layer 21. FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 of FIG. 1 taken along line VI-VI. As shown in FIG. 6, in the second terminal portion 47, the second electrode 43 is connected to the second connection portion 16 of the wiring board 10 via a second conductive adhesive layer 19. The resin spheres contained in the second conductive adhesive layer 19 break through the second alignment film 24, thereby connecting the second electrode 43 to the second connection portion 16. The resin spheres may be metal coated. The second terminal portion 47 can be connected to the second connection portion 16 without being obstructed by the liquid crystal layer 21.

[0039] 1 and 4 , the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 do not face each other. In other words, the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 are offset from each other in the plan view of the light adjusting member 20. In other words, the first terminal 37 is located at a different position from the second terminal 47 in the plan view of the light adjusting member 20. In the illustrated example, a gap S is formed between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 in the plan view of the light adjusting member 20. The length between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 in the plan view of the light adjusting member 20 is, for example, 2 mm or more and 5 mm or less.

[0040] Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view of the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 taken along line VII-VII in Figure 1. During the manufacturing process, pressure may be applied to the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47. In the thickness direction of the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 shown in Figure 7, the position where the first terminal 37 is provided differs from the position where the second terminal 47 is provided. For this reason, as shown in Figure 7, the substrate 11 of the wiring board 10 may bend or curve at the portion where the gap S is provided between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47.

[0041] 1 , in a plan view of the light-adjusting component 20, the notch 11C of the substrate 11 overlaps with the gap S formed between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47. By aligning the notch 11C so that it overlaps with the gap S, the wiring substrate 10 and the light-adjusting component 20 are aligned to a position where the first wiring 13 is connected to the first terminal 37 and the second wiring 15 is connected to the second terminal 47.

[0042] The first substrate 31 and the second substrate 41 appropriately support the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, respectively. The first substrate 31 and the second substrate 41 are thin plate-shaped. The first substrate 31 and the second substrate 41 are transparent. The thickness of the first substrate 31 and the second substrate 41 is preferably 30 μm or more and 250 μm or less to ensure excellent strength and optical properties. The material of the first substrate 31 and the second substrate 41 is, for example, glass, polyethylene terephthalate, triacetyl cellulose, polycarbonate, or cycloolefin polymer.

[0043] By transparent it is meant that the visible light transmittance is 40% or more, 70% or more, 80% or more, or 90% or more.

[0044] The first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43 are separated from each other. The first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43 are not directly connected electrically. In the first terminal 37, the first electrode 33 is electrically connected to the first connection 14 at a position different from the second terminal 47 in a planar view of the light adjusting component 20. In the second terminal 47, the second electrode 43 is electrically connected to the second connection 16 at a position different from the first terminal 37 in a planar view of the light adjusting component 20. A voltage is applied to the first electrode 33 via the first wiring 13. A voltage is applied to the second electrode 43 via the second wiring 15. The light adjusting component 20 can adjust its visible light transmittance by changing the voltage applied to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43. The first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43 are transparent. The first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43 are, for example, a film made of indium tin oxide (ITO) or a mesh made of copper.

[0045] 3 and 4 , in a plan view of the light adjusting member 20, a periphery 35E of the first main portion 35 at a position overlapping the second terminal portion 47 and a periphery 45E of the second main portion 45 at a position overlapping the first terminal portion 37 are located on the sealing material 22. In a cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the sealing material 22, the periphery 35E of the first main portion 35 at a position overlapping the second terminal portion 47 and the periphery 45E of the second main portion 45 at a position overlapping the first terminal portion 37 are located between both ends of the sealing material 22.

[0046] The periphery of the first terminal 37 has a curved shape with a radius of curvature of 1 mm to 3 mm at a portion extending from the first main portion 35, i.e., at a base end 37p of the first terminal 37. In the example shown in FIG. 4 , the periphery of the first terminal 37 is smoothly connected to the periphery of the first main portion 35 at a portion extending from the first main portion 35, and is recessed toward the periphery of the first main portion 35 and the periphery of the first terminal 37. For example, the periphery of the first terminal 37 may have a circular arc or an elliptical arc shape. Similarly, the periphery of the second terminal 47 has a curved shape with a radius of curvature of 1 mm to 3 mm at a portion extending from the second main portion 45, i.e., at a base end 47p of the second terminal 47. At the portion where the second terminal portion 47 extends from the second main portion 45, the periphery of the second main portion 45 and the periphery of the second terminal portion 47 are smoothly connected, and the periphery of the second main portion 45 and the periphery of the second terminal portion 47 are recessed toward each other. For example, the periphery of the second terminal portion 47 may be in the shape of a circular arc or an elliptical arc.

[0047] The liquid crystal layer 21 includes a plurality of liquid crystal molecules. An electric field is formed in the liquid crystal layer 21 by applying a voltage to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43. The electric field changes the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules. The orientation of the liquid crystal molecules can be changed by changing the electric field formed in the liquid crystal layer 21, and therefore by changing the voltage applied to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43. The state of light transmitted through the liquid crystal layer 21 can be changed depending on the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules. The driving method of the liquid crystal molecules is not particularly limited and may be, for example, a vertical alignment (VA) method, a twisted nematic (TN) method, an in-plane switching (IPS) method, a guest-host (GH) method, or an application of any of these methods.

[0048] Depending on the driving method used for the liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer 21, the light control member 20 may further include two polarizing plates disposed between them with the liquid crystal layer 21. Depending on the driving method used for the liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer 21, the first alignment film 23 and the second alignment film 24 may be omitted.

[0049] As an example, a case will be described in which the driving method of the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 21 is the GH method. In the GH method, the liquid crystal layer 21 further contains a dichroic dye composition. In the GH method, when no voltage is applied to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, the orientations of the liquid crystal molecules and the dichroic dye composition are regulated by the first alignment film 23 and the second alignment film 24, resulting in a horizontal orientation. The visible light transmittance of the liquid crystal layer 21 is low. When a voltage is applied between the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, the electric field causes the liquid crystal molecules and the dichroic dye composition to approach a perpendicular orientation relative to the first alignment film 23 and the second alignment film 24. The visible light transmittance of the liquid crystal layer 21 is increased. By changing the orientations of the liquid crystal molecules and the dichroic dye composition, the visible light transmittance of the liquid crystal layer 21 can be changed.

[0050] When no voltage is applied to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, the liquid crystal molecules and the dichroic dye composition may be regulated by the first alignment film 23 and the second alignment film 24 to be vertically aligned, and when a voltage is applied between the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, the electric field may cause the liquid crystal molecules and the dichroic dye composition to be aligned closer to horizontal to the first alignment film 23 and the second alignment film 24. In other words, when no voltage is applied to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, the liquid crystal layer 21 may have a high visible light transmittance, and when a voltage is applied to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, the visible light transmittance may be low.

[0051] The sealant 22 circumferentially surrounds the liquid crystal layer 21. The sealant 22 divides the liquid crystal layer 21. The sealant 22 prevents leakage of the liquid crystal layer 21 and adheres to the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 to fix them together. The material of the sealant 22 is, for example, a thermosetting epoxy resin, an ultraviolet-curable acrylic resin, or a thermo-ultraviolet-curable epoxy-acrylic resin.

[0052] The first alignment film 23 and the second alignment film 24 regulate the orientation of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer 21. The first alignment film 23 and the second alignment film 24 may be produced, for example, by subjecting a resin layer such as polyimide to a rubbing treatment, or may be produced based on a photo-alignment method in which linearly polarized ultraviolet light is irradiated onto a polymer film to selectively react polymer chains in the polarization direction, or may be produced by subjecting a fine line-shaped concave-convex shape produced by a rubbing treatment to a molding treatment.

[0053] In this embodiment, the ratio R1 ((total thickness of substrate 11 and first wiring 13) / (total thickness of first terminal 37, substrate 11 and first wiring 13) × 100(%)) of the total thickness of substrate 11 and first wiring 13 to the total thickness of first terminal 37, substrate 11 and first wiring 13 may be 25% or more, or may be 28% or more. The ratio R1 may be 62.5% or less, or may be 61.7% or less.

[0054] The ratio R2 of the total thickness of the substrate 11 and the second wiring 15 to the total thickness of the second terminal portion 47, the substrate 11, and the second wiring 15 ((total thickness of the substrate 11 and the second wiring 15) / (total thickness of the second terminal portion 47, the substrate 11, and the second wiring 15) × 100(%)) may be 25% or more, or may be 28% or more. The ratio R2 may be 62.5% or less, or may be 61.7% or less.

[0055] Either one of the ratios R1 and R2 may be 25% or more, or both may be 25% or more. By making at least one of the ratios R1 and R2 25% or more, when the first terminal portion 37 or the second terminal portion 47 is bonded to the substrate 11 by applying heat and pressure (described below), poor conductivity is less likely to occur in the first terminal portion 37 or the second terminal portion 47. Either one of the ratios R1 and R2 may be 62.5% or less, or both may be 61.7% or less. By making at least one of the ratios R1 and R2 62.5% or less, flatness of the first terminal portion 37 or the second terminal portion 47 is maintained.

[0056] The table below shows the relationship between the ratio R1 ((B) / [(A)+(B)]×100(%)) and the electrical continuity reliability when the thickness (A) of the first terminal 37 and the sum (B) of the thickness of the substrate 11 and the thickness of the first wiring 13 are changed. Specifically, the table below shows how the electrical continuity reliability changes when the ratio R1 is changed in Examples 1 to 4. Note that, in the following, the thickness of the sealing material 22 is constant (20 μm) and the thickness of the first conductive adhesive layer 17 is constant (10 μm). The electrical continuity reliability indicates the rate at which electrical continuity defects occurred in the first terminal 37 when the first terminal 37 was bonded to the substrate 11 by heating and pressurizing.

[0057]

[0058] By setting the ratio R1 to 25% or more, preferably 28% or more as described above, the reliability of conduction when the first terminal portion 37 is bonded to the substrate 11 by applying heat and pressure can be improved.

[0059] An example of a method for manufacturing the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 will be described below. The method for manufacturing the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 includes the steps of preparing a first plate and a second plate, applying a sealant to the second plate, forming a liquid crystal layer, stacking the first plate and the second plate to form a laminate, cutting a portion of the laminate, and attaching the wiring board 10.

[0060] A first plate material 30A and a second plate material 40A are fabricated. The process for fabricating the second plate material 40A will be described as an example. The first plate material 30A can be fabricated using the same process as the second plate material 40A. A second electrode 43 is formed on a second substrate 41 by sputtering or the like. A composition that will form the second alignment film 24 is applied to the second electrode 43. An alignment control force is imparted to the composition by rubbing, photoalignment, or the like, thereby forming the second alignment film 24. Through the above process, the second plate material 40A as shown in FIG. 8 is fabricated.

[0061] A sealing material 22A is applied circumferentially to the second plate 40A. The sealing material 22A is a viscous liquid material with adhesive or cohesive properties. The sealing material 22A hardens to become the sealing material 22. As shown in Figure 9, a liquid crystal material containing liquid crystal molecules is supplied to the area on the second plate 40A surrounded by the sealing material 22A to form a liquid crystal layer 21.

[0062] The first plate material 30A is laminated on the second plate material 40A under reduced pressure. The sealing material 22A deforms and hardens to become the sealing material 22, which bonds the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A together. Through the above steps, a laminated body 20A as shown in Fig. 10 is produced. When laminating the first plate material 30A on the second plate material 40A, a roller or the like may be used to rub them.

[0063] Portions of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A are cut along the dotted lines shown in FIG. 10 . The peripheral portions of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A are removed. Portions of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A are also cut at positions that will become the first terminal portion 37 and the second terminal portion 47 of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A. For example, at the position that will become the second terminal portion 47 of the second plate material 40A, a portion of the second plate material 40A is cut along the dotted lines shown in FIG. 11 . The cutting of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A at the positions that will become the first terminal portion 37 and the second terminal portion 47 is performed at least partially on the sealing material 22. The cutting of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A can be performed using a tool such as a punching blade or a cutter, or a laser cutting device. The light control member 20 is produced through the above process.

[0064] The wiring substrate 10 is placed on the light-adjusting component 20 so that the first connection 14 of the first wiring 13 faces the first terminal 37 and the second connection 16 of the second wiring 15 faces the second terminal 47. The light-adjusting component 20 and the wiring substrate 10 are easily aligned by overlapping the gap S formed between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 with the notch 11C of the substrate 11, so that the first connection 14 of the first wiring 13 faces the first terminal 37 and the second connection 16 of the second wiring 15 faces the second terminal 47. Heating and pressurizing the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 causes the first conductive adhesive layer 17 and the second conductive adhesive layer 19 to exhibit conductivity and adhesiveness. In the first terminal 37, the first electrode 33 and the first connection 14 of the first wiring 13 are electrically connected via the first conductive adhesive layer 17. In the second terminal portion 47, the second electrode 43 and the second connection portion 16 of the second wiring 15 are electrically connected via the second conductive adhesive layer 19. Through the above steps, the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 as shown in FIG.

[0065] When connecting wiring on a wiring board to a conventional light-adjusting component, two processes are performed: aligning and connecting a first electrode of the light-adjusting component to the first wiring on the wiring board, and aligning and connecting a second electrode of the light-adjusting component to the second wiring on the wiring board. When a first connection portion of the first wiring on the first surface of the substrate is aligned to connect to the first electrode, the second connection portion of the second wiring on the second surface of the substrate moves. In conventional light-adjusting components, the first terminal portion and the second terminal portion overlap or are adjacent to each other in a planar view. In a planar view, the first terminal portion and the second terminal portion are close to each other. After aligning the first electrode and the first connection portion, significant misalignment occurs between the first electrode and the first connection portion when aligning the second electrode and the second connection portion. Thus, aligning and connecting electrodes and wiring is cumbersome and time-consuming.

[0066] In the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 of the first embodiment, the first electrode 33 is electrically connected to the first connection portion 14 at the first terminal portion 37 at a position different from the second terminal portion 47 in a plan view of the light control component 20. In a plan view, the first terminal portion 37 and the second terminal portion 47 are spaced apart. After aligning the first electrode 33 with the first connection portion 14, the first electrode 33 and the first connection portion 14 are less likely to become misaligned when aligning the second electrode 43 with the second connection portion 16. Similarly, after aligning the second electrode 43 with the second connection portion 16, the second electrode 43 and the second connection portion 16 are less likely to become misaligned when aligning the first electrode 33 with the first connection portion 14. The substrate 11 extends between the first terminal portion 37 and the second terminal portion 47 in a plan view of the light control component 20. The first connection portion 14 and the second connection portion 16 on the substrate 11 can be simultaneously and stably aligned with the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43, respectively. This makes it easy to connect the first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 of the wiring substrate 10 to the light control component 20, and to easily manufacture the light control component 1 with a wiring substrate.

[0067] In a plan view of the light adjusting component 20, a periphery 35E of the first main portion 35 at a position overlapping the second terminal 47 and a periphery 45E of the second main portion 45 at a position overlapping the first terminal 37 are located on the sealing material 22. The first plate material that becomes the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 is cut on the sealing material 22 at a position overlapping the second terminal 47 in a plan view of the light adjusting component 20. The second plate material that becomes the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 is cut on the sealing material 22 at a position overlapping the first terminal 37 in a plan view of the light adjusting component 20. When portions of the first plate material and the second plate material that become the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 are cut at these positions, an error in the cutting depth of the first plate material and the second plate material is allowed by the thickness of the sealing material 22. When parts of the first plate material and the second plate material that will become the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 are cut, it is possible to easily remove liquid crystal molecules that have spilled out of the liquid crystal layer 21 to the outside of the sealing material 22. The light control member 20 can be easily manufactured.

[0068] 23 shows an example in which no gap is formed between the first terminal 137 of the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second terminal 147 of the second electrode-equipped substrate 40, and the first terminal 137 and the second terminal 147 are adjacent to each other in a planar view. In the example shown in Fig. 23 , a first connection 114 of a first wiring 113 is connected to a first electrode 133 supported by a first substrate 131 via a first conductive adhesive layer 117, and a second connection 116 of a second wiring 115 is connected to a second electrode 143 supported by a second substrate 141 via a second conductive adhesive layer 119. When the first terminal 137 and the second terminal 147 are heated and pressurized during the manufacturing process of the wiring board-equipped light control component 1, a shear force is applied to the substrate 111, and the substrate 111 may be sheared between the first terminal 137 and the second terminal 147. In the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 of the first embodiment, a gap S is formed between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 in a plan view of the light control component 20. In the manufacturing process of the wiring board-equipped light control component 1, when the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47 are heated and pressurized, the substrate 11 is less likely to be sheared between the first terminal 37 and the second terminal 47. In the manufacturing process of the wiring board-equipped light control component 1, the gap S can provide a clearance for a tool used for cutting when cutting portions of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A. The wiring board-equipped light control component 1 can be easily manufactured.

[0069] A notch 11C is provided in the substrate 11 between the position where the first connection portion 14 is provided and the position where the second connection portion 16 is provided. By aligning the notch 11C so that it overlaps with the gap S, the wiring substrate 10 and the light control member 20 can be easily aligned so that the first wiring 13 is connected to the first terminal portion 37 and the second wiring 15 is connected to the second terminal portion 47. The light control member 1 with a wiring substrate can be easily manufactured.

[0070] The first terminal portion 37 has a curved shape with a radius of curvature of 1 mm or more and 3 mm or less at a portion extending from the first main portion 35. The second terminal portion 47 has a curved shape with a radius of curvature of 1 mm or more and 3 mm or less at a portion extending from the second main portion 45. When cutting a portion of the first plate material 30A and the second plate material 40A, for example, excessive force is applied to the portion of the first terminal portion 37 extending from the first main portion 35 and the portion of the second terminal portion 47 extending from the second main portion 45, which can prevent the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 from peeling off from the sealing material 22.

[0071] 12 is a plan view of a wiring board-equipped light control component 1 according to a second embodiment. The wiring board-equipped light control component 1 includes a light control component 20 and a wiring board 10.

[0072] In the second embodiment, the light adjusting component 20 includes, in a plan view, a plurality of regions that divide the position where the liquid crystal layer 21 is disposed. In the example shown in Fig. 12 , the light adjusting component 20 includes six regions: a first region A1, a second region A2, a third region A3, a fourth region A4, a fifth region A5, and a sixth region A6. In Fig. 12 , the boundaries between the regions are indicated by dotted lines. In the example shown, the regions A1 to A6 have substantially the same rectangular shape and are arranged in one direction. The number, shape, and arrangement of the regions are not limited to the example shown.

[0073] FIG. 13 is a plan view of the wiring substrate 10. As shown in FIG. 13, the wiring substrate 10 includes a substrate 11, first wiring 13, and second wiring 15. The first wiring 13 includes a first connection portion 14 provided on a first surface 11A of the substrate 11. The second wiring 15 includes a plurality of second connection portions 16 provided on a second surface 11B of the substrate 11. The number of second connection portions 16 is the same as the number of sections. The wiring substrate 10 further includes a first conductive adhesive layer 17 and a plurality of second conductive adhesive layers 19. The number of second conductive adhesive layers 19 is the same as the number of second connection portions 16. The first conductive adhesive layer 17 is provided on the first connection portion 14 and connects the first connection portion 14 to the light control component 20. Each second conductive adhesive layer 19 is provided on each second connection portion 16 and connects each second connection portion 16 to the light control component 20.

[0074] FIG. 14 shows a cross-sectional view of the light control component 20 in the wiring board-equipped light control component 1, taken along line XIV-XIV in FIG. 12. As shown in FIG. 14, the light control component 20 includes a first electrode-equipped substrate 30, a second electrode-equipped substrate 40, a liquid crystal layer 21, and a sealing material 22. The first electrode-equipped substrate 30 includes a first electrode 33 and a first substrate 31. The second electrode-equipped substrate 40 includes a plurality of second electrodes 43 and a second substrate 41. The plurality of second electrodes 43 face the liquid crystal layer 21 and are independent for each region. The number of second electrodes 43 is the same as the number of regions. The plurality of second electrodes 43 are arranged corresponding to the regions. The second substrate 41 supports the plurality of second electrodes 43. In the example shown in FIG. 14, the light control component 20 further includes a first alignment film 23 and a second alignment film 24.

[0075] By changing the voltages applied to the first electrode 33 and the second electrode 43 in each region, the light control component 20 can adjust the visible light transmittance independently for each region. In the example shown in Fig. 12, the light control component 20 can have different visible light transmittances in the first region A1, the second region A2, the third region A3, the fourth region A4, the fifth region A5, and the sixth region A6.

[0076] FIG. 15 is a plan view of a first electrode-equipped substrate 30 in a light-adjusting member 20 of the second embodiment. As shown in FIG. 15 , the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 includes a first main portion 35 and a first terminal portion 37. The first terminal portion 37 extends from the first main portion 35. FIG. 16 is a plan view of a second electrode-equipped substrate 40 in a light-adjusting member 20 of the second embodiment. Multiple second electrodes 43 in the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 are independent at the boundary indicated by the dotted line in FIG. 16 . As shown in FIG. 16 , the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 includes a second main portion 45 and multiple second terminal portions 47. In the second terminal portion 47, the second electrodes 43 are independent from each other in each region, but the second substrate 41 may be integrated. The first main portion 35 and the second main portion 45 face the liquid crystal layer 21. The first terminal portion 37 and the plurality of second terminal portions 47 do not face the liquid crystal layer 21 .

[0077] In the plan view of the light adjusting component 20 shown in FIG. 12 , the first terminal 37 and the multiple second terminals 47 do not face each other. In other words, the first terminal 37 and the multiple second terminals 47 are offset in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20. In yet other words, the first terminal 37 is located at a different position from the multiple second terminals 47 in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20. In the first terminal 37, the first electrode 33 is electrically connected to the first connecting portion 14 at a different position from the multiple second terminals 47 in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20. In the multiple second terminals 47, the multiple second electrodes 43 are electrically connected to the corresponding multiple second connecting portions 16 at a different position from the first terminal 37 in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20.

[0078] 12 and 13 , the first connection portion 14 and the plurality of second connection portions 16 are aligned in one direction on the wiring board 10. It is easy to position the wiring board 10 relative to the light control component 20 so that the first connection portion 14 and the plurality of second connection portions 16 face the corresponding first terminal portion 37 and the plurality of second terminal portions 47, respectively. This makes it easy to manufacture the light control component 1 with a wiring board.

[0079] In a plan view of the light adjusting component 20, the substrate 11 extends between the first terminal 37 and each of the plurality of second terminals 47. In a plan view of the light adjusting component 20, the substrate 11 extends between the plurality of second terminals 47. The first connection 14 and the plurality of second connection parts 16 on the substrate 11 can be simultaneously and stably aligned with the first electrode 33 and the plurality of second electrodes 43, respectively. This makes it possible to easily connect the first wiring 13 and the plurality of second wirings 15 of the wiring substrate 10 to the light adjusting component 20, and to easily manufacture the wiring substrate-equipped light adjusting component 1.

[0080] In the illustrated example, in a plan view of the light control component 20, the peripheral edge 11E of the substrate 11 facing the peripheral edge 35E of the first main portion 35 and the peripheral edge 45E of the second main portion 45 are linear. Such a wiring substrate 10 can be easily disposed between the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 without getting caught on the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 and the second electrode-equipped substrate 40. Therefore, the wiring substrate 10 can be easily disposed in the light control component 20. The light control component 1 with a wiring substrate can be easily manufactured.

[0081] In the illustrated example, the width of the substrate 11 in a direction non-parallel to the direction in which the first connection portion 14 and the multiple second connection portions 16 are arranged is constant, but it does not have to be constant. The maximum width of the substrate 11 may be, for example, 5 mm to 40 mm, or 5 mm to 30 mm. The maximum width of the substrate 11 refers to the maximum length of the substrate 11 in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the first connection portion 14 and the multiple second connection portions 16 are arranged. A sufficient width of the substrate 11 makes the wiring substrate 10 easy to handle. The wiring substrate 10 can be easily placed on the light control component 20. The light control component 1 with a wiring substrate can be easily manufactured.

[0082] In the second embodiment of the light control component 1 with a wiring board, the light control component 20 is divided into multiple sections. The visible light transmittance can be adjusted independently for each section. In the first terminal 37, the first electrode 33 is electrically connected to the first connection 14 at a position different from the multiple second terminals 47 in a planar view of the light control component 20. In the multiple second terminals 47, the multiple second electrodes 43 are electrically connected to the multiple second connection 16 at positions different from the first terminal 37 in a planar view of the light control component 20. In a planar view, the first terminal 37 and the multiple second terminals 47 are spaced apart. After aligning the first electrode 33 with the first connection 14, misalignment of the first electrode 33 with the first connection 14 is unlikely when aligning the second electrode 43 with the second connection 16. Similarly, after aligning the second electrode 43 with the second connection portion 16, when aligning the first electrode 33 with the first connection portion 14, the second electrode 43 and the second connection portion 16 are less likely to be misaligned. This makes it easy to connect the first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 of the wiring substrate 10 to the light control component 20, and to easily manufacture the light control component 1 with a wiring substrate.

[0083] 17 is a plan view of a wiring board-equipped light control component 1 according to a third embodiment. The wiring board-equipped light control component 1 includes a light control component 20 and a wiring board 10.

[0084] In the third embodiment, similar to the second embodiment, the light adjusting component 20 includes, in a plan view, a plurality of regions that divide the position where the liquid crystal layer 21 is disposed. In Fig. 17 , the boundaries between the regions are indicated by dotted lines. In the example shown in Fig. 17 , the light adjusting component 20 includes six regions: a first region A1, a second region A2, a third region A3, a fourth region A4, a fifth region A5, and a sixth region A6.

[0085] FIG. 18 is a plan view of the wiring substrate 10. As shown in FIG. 18, the wiring substrate 10 includes a substrate 11, first wiring 13, and second wiring 15. The first wiring 13 includes a plurality of first connection portions 14 provided on the first surface 11A of the substrate 11. The second wiring 15 includes a plurality of second connection portions 16 provided on the second surface 11B of the substrate 11. The number of second connection portions 16 is the same as the number of sections. The number of first connection portions 14 is less than the number of second connection portions 16. The wiring substrate 10 further includes a plurality of first conductive adhesive layers 17 and a plurality of second conductive adhesive layers 19. The number of first conductive adhesive layers 17 is the same as the number of first connection portions 14. The number of second conductive adhesive layers 19 is the same as the number of second connection portions 16. Each first conductive adhesive layer 17 is provided on each first connection portion 14 and connects each first connection portion 14 to the light control component 20. Each second conductive adhesive layer 19 is provided on each second connection portion 16 and connects each second connection portion 16 to the light adjusting member 20 .

[0086] FIG. 19 shows a cross-sectional view of the light control component 20 in the wiring board-equipped light control component 1 taken along line XIX-XIX in FIG. 17 . As shown in FIG. 19 , the light control component 20 includes a first electrode-equipped substrate 30, a second electrode-equipped substrate 40, a liquid crystal layer 21, and a sealing material 22. The first electrode-equipped substrate 30 includes a plurality of first electrodes 33 and a first substrate 31. The second electrode-equipped substrate 40 includes a plurality of second electrodes 43 and a second substrate 41. The plurality of first electrodes 33 face the liquid crystal layer 21 and span one or more regions. The number of first electrodes 33 is less than the number of regions. The first substrate 31 supports the plurality of first electrodes 33. The plurality of second electrodes 43 face the liquid crystal layer 21 and are independent for each region. The number of second electrodes 43 is the same as the number of regions. The second substrate 41 supports the plurality of second electrodes 43. In the example shown in FIG. 19 , the light adjusting member 20 further includes a first alignment film 23 and a second alignment film 24 .

[0087] The light control component 20 can adjust the visible light transmittance independently for each region by changing the voltage applied to the plurality of first electrodes 33 and the plurality of second electrodes 43. In the example shown in Fig. 17, the light control component 20 can have different visible light transmittances in the first region A1, the second region A2, the third region A3, the fourth region A4, the fifth region A5, and the sixth region A6.

[0088] FIG. 20 is a plan view of a first electrode-equipped substrate 30 in a light-adjusting component 20 according to the third embodiment. At the boundaries indicated by dotted lines in FIG. 20 , multiple first electrodes 33 in the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 are independent. As shown in FIG. 20 , the first electrode-equipped substrate 30 includes a first main portion 35 and multiple first terminal portions 37. The multiple first terminal portions 37 extend from the first main portion 35. At the first terminal portions 37, the first electrodes 33 are independent from each other, but the first substrate 31 may be integrated. FIG. 21 is a plan view of a second electrode-equipped substrate 40 in a light-adjusting component 20 according to the third embodiment. At the boundaries indicated by dotted lines in FIG. 21 , multiple second electrodes 43 in the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 are independent. As shown in FIG. 21 , the second electrode-equipped substrate 40 includes a second main portion 45 and multiple second terminal portions 47. In the second terminal portion 47, the second electrodes 43 are independent from each other in each region, but the second substrate 41 may be integrated. The first main portion 35 and the second main portion 45 face the liquid crystal layer 21. The plurality of first terminal portions 37 and the plurality of second terminal portions 47 do not face the liquid crystal layer 21.

[0089] In the plan view of the light adjusting component 20 shown in FIG. 17 , the first terminals 37 and the second terminals 47 do not face each other. In other words, the first terminals 37 and the second terminals 47 are offset from each other in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20. In yet other words, the first terminals 37 are located at positions different from the second terminals 47 in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20. In the first terminals 37, the first electrodes 33 are electrically connected to the first connectors 14 at positions different from the second terminals 47 in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20. In the second terminals 47, the second electrodes 43 are electrically connected to the corresponding second connectors 16 at positions different from the first terminals 37 in the plan view of the light adjusting component 20.

[0090] In the light control component 1 with a wiring board according to the third embodiment, the light control component 20 is divided into multiple sections. Visible light transmittance can be adjusted independently for each section. In the multiple first terminals 37, the multiple first electrodes 33 are electrically connected to the first connecting sections 14 at positions different from the multiple second terminals 47 in a planar view of the light control component 20. The connection between the first electrodes 33 and the first connecting sections 14 is less likely to be obstructed by the multiple second terminals 47. In the multiple second terminals 47, the multiple second electrodes 43 are electrically connected to the multiple second connecting sections 16 at positions different from the multiple first terminals 37 in a planar view of the light control component 20. The connection between the multiple second electrodes 43 and the multiple second connecting sections 16 is less likely to be obstructed by the multiple first terminals 37. This facilitates the connection of the first wiring 13 and the second wiring 15 of the wiring board 10 to the light control component 20, thereby facilitating the manufacture of the light control component 1 with a wiring board.
