Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for base editing of plant DNA, comprising expressing, in a plant, a plant cell or a protoplast of interest, a base editing composition comprising at least one DNA binding protein and at least one enzyme protein or comprising polynucleotides that encoding the proteins. The present invention is useful for editing bases of nuclear DNA or organellar DNA in plants and, in particular, is useful for editing bases of DNA of plant organelles such as chloroplasts or mitochondria. This base editing composition can be used in methods for causing, in plant DNA, targeted conversion of an adenine (A) base to guanine (G), targeted conversion of a cytosine (C) base to thymine (T) base, or both. In addition, the present invention relates to plant cells, plants or seeds in which this base editing is carried out.
