Abstract
Description
Method and device for supporting energy usage monitoring in wireless communication systems
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for providing energy usage monitoring in a wireless communication system.
[0002] 5G mobile communication technology defines a wide frequency band to enable fast transmission speeds and new services, and can be implemented not only in the sub-6GHz frequency band such as 3.5 gigahertz (3.5GHz), but also in the ultra-high frequency band called millimeter wave (mmWave) such as 28GHz and 39GHz ('Above 6GHz'). In addition, for 6G mobile communication technology, which is called the system after 5G communication (Beyond 5G), implementation in the terahertz band (for example, the 3 terahertz (3THz) band at 95GHz) is being considered to achieve a transmission speed that is 50 times faster than 5G mobile communication technology and an ultra-low latency time that is reduced to one-tenth.
[0003] In the early stages of 5G mobile communication technology, the goal is to support services and satisfy performance requirements for enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC), and massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC). These include beamforming and massive MIMO to mitigate path loss of radio waves in ultra-high frequency bands and increase the transmission distance of radio waves, support for various numerologies (such as operation of multiple subcarrier intervals) and dynamic operation of slot formats for efficient use of ultra-high frequency resources, initial access technology to support multi-beam transmission and wideband, definition and operation of BWP (Bidth Part), new channel coding methods such as LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) codes for large-capacity data transmission and Polar Code for reliable transmission of control information, and L2 pre-processing (L2). Standardization has been made for network slicing, which provides dedicated networks specialized for specific services, and pre-processing.
[0004] Currently, discussions are underway to improve and enhance the initial 5G mobile communication technology in consideration of the services that 5G mobile communication technology was intended to support, and physical layer standardization is in progress for technologies such as V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) to help autonomous vehicles make driving decisions and increase user convenience based on their own location and status information transmitted by vehicles, NR-U (New Radio Unlicensed) for the purpose of system operation that complies with various regulatory requirements in unlicensed bands, NR terminal low power consumption technology (UE Power Saving), Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN), which is direct terminal-satellite communication to secure coverage in areas where communication with terrestrial networks is impossible, and Positioning.
[0005] In addition, standardization of wireless interface architecture / protocols is in progress for technologies such as intelligent factories (Industrial Internet of Things, IIoT) to support new services through linkage and convergence with other industries, Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) that provides nodes for expanding network service areas by integrating wireless backhaul links and access links, Mobility Enhancement technology including Conditional Handover and Dual Active Protocol Stack (DAPS) handover, and 2-step random access (2-step RACH for NR) that simplifies random access procedures. Standardization is also in progress for system architecture / services such as 5G baseline architecture (e.g., Service-based Architecture, Service-based Interface) for grafting Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies, and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) that provides services based on the location of the terminal.
[0006] Once these 5G mobile communication systems are commercialized, an explosive increase in connected devices will be connected to the communication network, necessitating enhanced functionality and performance of 5G mobile communication systems and integrated operation of these connected devices. To this end, new research will be conducted on improving 5G performance and reducing complexity, supporting AI services, supporting metaverse services, and drone communications by utilizing eXtended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) to efficiently support Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR).
[0007] In addition, the development of these 5G mobile communication systems includes new waveforms to ensure coverage in the terahertz band of 6G mobile communication technology, multi-antenna transmission technologies such as Full Dimensional MIMO (FD-MIMO), Array Antenna, and Large Scale Antenna, metamaterial-based lenses and antennas to improve the coverage of terahertz band signals, high-dimensional spatial multiplexing technology using Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM), Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) technology, as well as full duplex technology to improve the frequency efficiency and system network of 6G mobile communication technology, satellite, AI (Artificial Intelligence) from the design stage and AI-based communication technology that realizes system optimization by internalizing end-to-end AI support functions, and ultra-high-performance communication and computing resources to provide services with complexity that exceeds the limits of terminal computing capabilities. It can serve as a basis for the development of next-generation distributed computing technologies that can be realized by utilizing them.

[0050] In 5G systems, network slicing technology refers to the technology and architecture that enables multiple virtualized, independent, logical networks within a single physical network. Network operators provide services by configuring virtual end-to-end networks called network slices to meet the specialized requirements of services / applications. At this time, network slices are identified by an identifier called single-network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI). During a terminal registration procedure (e.g., UE registration procedure), the network transmits a set of allowed slices (e.g., allowed NSSAI(s)) to the terminal, and the terminal transmits and receives application data through a PDU (protocol data unit) session generated through one S-NSSAI (e.g., network slice) among the received slice sets.
[0051] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a method for monitoring energy usage in a 5G system is proposed. When energy usage monitoring is activated, an energy monitoring function can collect energy usage information from target entities (e.g., User Equipments (UEs), Radio Access Networks (RANs), and / or User Plane Functions (UPFs). In this case, the energy monitoring function can be activated for each terminal or each network slice.
[0052] Meanwhile, FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating a method for performing energy monitoring in UPF according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0053] First, in step 1 of S220, a Consumer NF (e.g., SMF) (200) may transmit a request to the UPF (210) to monitor energy monitoring related information.

[0127] - Depending on the energy monitoring request, EC or ECR, or both EC and ECR may be included.
[0128] - May contain information indicating that the ECR reporting threshold or EC reporting threshold has been reached.
[0129] After receiving an energy monitoring notification message containing EC or ECR, the Consumer NF (e.g., AMF) (300) may decide to limit the allowable bit rate, etc. for energy monitoring target traffic (e.g., traffic for information included in the target information of step 1) when the EC or ECR reaches a predefined total EC threshold or total ECR threshold.
[0130] Meanwhile, FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating a method for performing energy monitoring by S-NSSAI or DNN according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0131] First, in step 1 of S401, the Consumer NF (400) may transmit a request for energy monitoring to the Energy Monitoring Function (EMF) (410). According to one embodiment, the EMF (410) may be located in the NEF, PCF, NWDAF, or OAM.
[0132] The message for the above request may contain one or more of the following information:
[0133] -event id: An event id corresponding to Energy monitoring (EM) or an indicator requesting EM may be included in the message for the request.
[0134] -energy monitoring parameter(s): Parameter(s) to be monitored may be included. For example, parameters to be monitored, such as energy consumption (EC) or energy consumption rate (ECR), may be included in the message for the request.
[0135] The above EC may represent the energy consumption for providing a service, or the energy usage for providing a service per unit time.
[0136] The above ECR may represent an energy consumption rate or consumption speed for providing a service or a bitrate for the service (e.g., UL bitrate, DL bitrate, or the sum of UL / DL bitrate).
[0137] -target monitoring information: Information indicating the target of energy monitoring may be included in the message for the above request.
[0138] - S-NSSAI, DNN or AF-service-Identifier: When the Consumer NF (400) requests energy monitoring for a service identified by S-NSSAI and / or DNN, it may include S-NSSAI (slice identifier information) and DNN (data network identifier information) in the message for the request. Instead of S-NSSAI or DNN, AF-Service-Identifier (an identifier that can identify the AF service) may be included in the message for the request.
[0139] - Traffic filter: When Consumer NF (400) requests energy monitoring for traffic with a specific / random / predefined destination address, it can include information such as destination IP address, destination port number, and protocol type in the message for the request.
[0140] -notification address: Indicates the address to receive energy monitoring notifications.
[0141] -location information: When a Consumer NF (400) requests energy monitoring for a specific / arbitrary / predefined region, the region information may be included in the message for the request. For example, cell identifier(s), Tracking area (TA) identifier(s), geographical information (e.g., name of a specific region, etc.) may be included in the message for the request.
[0142] -time window: When a Consumer NF (400) requests energy monitoring for a time window, the corresponding time information may be included in the message for the request. For example, the monitoring start time, monitoring end time, or monitoring duration may be included.
[0143] -Reporting frequency: Can indicate the energy monitoring message notification cycle.
[0144] -EC reporting threshold: This can be included if you want to be notified when the EC reaches a certain level (e.g. threshold).
[0145] -ECR reporting threshold: If you want to be notified when ECR reaches a certain level (e.g. threshold), you can include this in the message for the request.
[0146] In step 2 of S402, when EMF (410) receives the message of step 1, it can decide to perform monitoring for S-NSSAI (or DNN) included in target monitoring information.
[0147] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, if the message of step 1 includes an AF-service-identifier, the EMF (410) can find out the corresponding S-NSSAI based on the configuration information.
[0148] EMF (410) can transmit a message for energy monitoring to SMF (420) for S-NSSAI. EMF (410) can also obtain the SMF address for S-NSSAI / DNN via UDM (145). The message for energy monitoring can include at least one of the following information:

For example, the ECR reporting threshold received in step 1 can be included. In one embodiment, if there are multiple SMFs to which the EMF (410) transmits messages, the ECR reporting threshold received in step 1 can be a value distributed by the EMF (410) to each SMF.
[0160] In steps 3 and 4 of S403 and S404, when the SMF (420) receives the message of step 2, it can transmit a message for energy monitoring to the UPF (430). Then, the UPF (430) can transmit a response message corresponding to the message for energy monitoring to the SMF (420).
[0161] Steps 3 and 4 may refer to steps 1 and 2 of the embodiment in which Consumer NF is SMF in FIG. 2.
[0162] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, when there are multiple UPFs (430) to which the SMF (420) transmits a message, the EC reporting threshold received by the SMF (420) in step 2 may be a value distributed to each UPF.
[0163] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, when there are multiple UPFs (430) to which the SMF (420) transmits a message, the ECR reporting threshold received by the SMF (420) in step 2 may be a value distributed to each UPF.
[0164] In step 5 of S405, when the SMF (420) receives the response message in step 4 from the UPF (430), it may transmit a response message for step 2 to the EMF (410). The response message may include at least one of the following information.
[0165] -result: Can indicate success or failure. SMF (420) can determine success or failure based on the result included in the message received from at least one UPF (430) in step 4. For example, if a result indicating success is received for all UPFs (430), a success message can be included.

Then, the EMF (410) may include the converted value in a notification message sent to the Consumer NF (400).
[0192] At this time, the above notification message may be sent periodically, depending on the setting information or information included in the message of step 1.
