Description

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR COMMUNICATION

[0001] FIELDS

[0002] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication techniques and in particular, to devices and methods for performing a layer 1 / layer 2 (L1 / L2) triggered mobility (LTM) -based cell switch.BACKGROUND

[0003] In order to ensure the communication continuousness in the wireless communication system, multiple technologies are proposed, such as cell switch. During the cell switch, the terminal device may switch among different cells. Further, technology of LTM is used for enabling the cell switch. More specifically, user equipment (UE) may report measurement reports to the network device, and the LTM procedure may be triggered by the network device. When the network device makes an LTM decision, the network device may transmit a cell switch command (CSC) to the terminal device. However, in some cases, the communication condition may deteriorate dramatically. If so, the CSC may be not transmitted to the terminal device successfully. In view of this, how to ensure that the CSC may be transmitted to the terminal device successfully and the cell switch indicated by the CSC may be performed properly is desirable to the solved.SUMMARY

[0046] In some embodiments, the following configurability may be introduced in the report configuration: whether the serving cell is always selected in the L-cell selection performed by the UE, and applicable when a UE is configured with L cells (L>=2) ; at least one of the inter-frequency cells is always selected in the L-cell selection performed by the UE, and applicable when a UE is configured with L cells (L>=2) and at least one of the L cells in the inter-frequency is selected.

[0047] As illustrated in FIG. 1A, early synchronization may be performed. In some embodiments, at least downlink (DL)  / uplink (UL) synchronization for candidate cell (s) based  on at least SSB before cell switch command may be supported.

[0048] In some embodiments, as for uplink (UL) synchronization, timing advance (TA) acquisition of candidate cell (s) before receiving the CSC in LTM may be supported. Further, such acquired TA may be allowed or not allowed to be applied to the candidate cell (s) when the candidate cell (s) is deactivated secondary cell.

[0049] In some embodiments, both random access channel (RACH) -based solutions and RACH-less solutions may be used for acquiring TA of the candidate cells. In case of the RACH-based solutions, the RACH may be a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) ordered RACH, a UE triggered RACH, or a higher layer triggered RACH from the network rather than layer 3 handover command. In case of the RACH-less solutions, below procedure may be introduced: sounding reference signal (SRS) -based TA acquisition, receiving (RX) timing difference based, RACH-less mechanism as in LTE, UE based TA measurement (including UE based TA measurement with one timing advance command (TAC) from a serving cell) .

[0050] In some embodiments, as for PDCCH ordered RACH in LTE, at least the following enhancements are supported: introduce indication of candidate cell and / or RACH occasion (RO) of candidate cell in DCI, configuration of RACH resource for candidate cell (s) is provided prior to the PDCCH order.

[0051] In FIG. 1A, an early TCI activation may be performed. As illustrated in FIG. 1A, the MAC CE may be used for the TCI state activation for candidate cell (s) before the CSC. In some embodiments, in release 18 LTM procedure, in order to activate multiple joint TCI state or / and pair of (DL / UL) TCI states for the candidate cell case, it is not supported to activate the TCI state together with beam indication of the candidate cell in the same MAC CE message.

[0052] In FIG. 1A, the source cell may send a CSC to the UE to trigger the LMT procedure. In some embodiments, at least the following information may be included in the CSC: information used to identify the target cells, TA related information, one joint or one pair of UL and DL unified TCI state index for the target cell. Further, in some embodiments, the CSC may be used for activating the bandwidth parts (BWPs) for the target cell. In some embodiments, beam indication may be an RS identifier or TCI state index.

[0053] In some embodiments, in order to minimize beam (or TCI state) interruption time during the handover (i.e., cell switch) in the LTM procedure, the source cell may utilize the  transmitted CSC to indicate a TCI state from a set of activated TCI states for the target cell to the UE. Thus, after the handover, the UE may immediately apply the indicated TCI state for the target cell to effectively receive or transmit DL or UL signal on the target cell.

[0054] In summary, with the LTM procedure in FIG. 1A, the communication continuousness may be improved. However, during the LTM procedure, the CSC may not be successfully transmitted to the UE sometimes due to the deteriorating radio link, particularly in frequency range 2 (FR2) scenario where UE often experiences rapid deterioration, as illustrated in FIG. 1B, which illustrate a graph 100B of channel quality. Reference is further made to FIG. 1C, which illustrates a signaling flow 100C for transmitting CSC.

[0055] As illustrated FIG. 1C, there is a time gap between reporting measurement results and receiving the CSC, and the channel quality may be experiencing a rapid deterioration in the time gap. In this event, such temporal gaps may influence the mobility robustness, especially in highly dynamic channels.

[0056] Generally speaking, the network device only sends an LTM command (e.g., CSC, which is a MAC CE) to UE when it is necessary to perform cell switch. This means that, UE will immediately perform cell switch after successfully receiving the CSC. However, in fact, UE may not successfully receive the CSC due to poor channel quality (as illustrated in FIG. 1D and 1E) , which will result in a longer interruption time.

[0057] If the CSC cannot be transmitted to the terminal device successfully due to the deterioration of the communication condition, the communication interruption time would be longer. In view of this, how to ensure that the CSC may be transmitted to the terminal device successfully and the cell switch may be performed properly is desirable to the solved.

[0058] According to the present disclosure, a solution for performing an LTM-based cell switch is proposed. In the solution, a terminal device receives, from a network device providing a first cell (such as, a serving cell) that serves the terminal device 210, an LTM-based cell switch command (CSC) of a second cell (such as, a target / candidate cell) to be switched to at a future time instance; and delays performing a cell switch to the second cell indicated by the LTM-based cell switch command based at least in part on a delay duration.

[0059] In this way, the LTM-based CSC may be transmitted to the terminal device when the communication condition does not deteriorate too much and thus it is guaranteed that the CSC may be transmitted to the terminal device successfully. Further, by delaying performing a cell switch to the second cell, it is ensured that the cell switch may be performed at a proper time  instance.

[0097] Example Environments

[0098] FIG. 2A shows an example communication environment 200A in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. The network communication 200 includes a terminal device 210, a network device 220-1 and an optional network device 220-2. In the following text, the network devices 220-1 and 220-2 are collectively referred to as the network devices 220 or individually referred to as the network device 220. Additionally, the network devices 220 may provide one or more coverage areas, also called as cells.

[0099] As illustrated in FIG. 2, the communication environment 200 includes a cell 230-1 and a cell 230-2. In the following text, the cell 230-1 and cell 230-2 may collectively referred to as the cell 230 or individually referred to as the first cell 230-1 and the second cell 230-2.

[0100] In some embodiments, both the first cell 230-1 and the second cell 230-2 may be provided by the network device 220-1. In other embodiments, the first cell 230-1 and the second cell 230-2 may be provided by the network device 220-1 and the network device 230-2, respectively.

[0101] In the communication environment 200A, a link from the terminal device 210 to the network device 220 is referred to as an uplink, while a link from the network device 220 to the terminal device 210 is referred to as a downlink. In downlink, the network device 220 is a  transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 210 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In uplink, the terminal device 210 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 220 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0102] In addition, in the example of FIG. 2A, the terminal device 210 may move over time. As illustrated in FIG. 2A, the terminal device 210 locates at different positions at different time points (T1 and T2) . When moving, the terminal device 210 may switch among different cells 230.

[0103] In some embodiments, the network device 220-1 and the network device 220-1 may communicate with each other via Xn message (s) .

[0104] Further, a model (s) may be deployed at the terminal device 210 and / or the network device 220. Reference is now made to FIG. 2B, which illustrates a block 200B of an example model.

[0105] As illustrated in FIG. 2B, measurement results (i.e., data sample) at each historical measurement time instance may be measurements (e.g., L1-RSRP, L1-SINR) of sets of beams associated with a set of candidate cells.

[0106] In case of the target cell prediction, the output at each future time instance may be an indicator (s) of target cell and time to switch to the target cell (s) . In case of the temporal L1 / L3 metric prediction, the output at each future time instance (in a set of future time instances) may be predicted L1-RSRPs / L1-SINRs of sets of beams associated with a set of candidate cells.

[0107] Alternatively, the output at each future time instance (in a set of future time instances) may be a predicted indicator of target cell (s) and optional predicted L1-RSRPs / L1-SINRs of a set of beams associated with target cell (s) .

[0108] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections in FIG. 2A are given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication environment 200A may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices and / or coverage areas for implementing implementations of the present disclosure.

[0109] The communications in the communication environment 200A may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access  (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0110] Work Principle and Example Signaling for Communication

[0111] Reference is made to FIG. 3A to FIG. 9, which will be discussed with reference to FIG. 2A, for example, by using the terminal device 210, the network device 220, the first cell 230-1 and the second cell 230-2.

[0112] In the following descriptions, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Likewise, while several specific implementation details are contained in the above discussions, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the present disclosure, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments. Certain features that are described in the context of separate embodiments may also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features that are described in the context of a single embodiment may also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

[0113] It is to be understood that the operations at the terminal device 210 and the network device 220 should be coordinated. In other words, the network device 220 and the terminal device 210 should have common understanding about configurations, parameters and so on. Such common understanding may be implemented by any suitable interactions between the network device 220 and the terminal device 210 or both the network device 220 and the terminal device 210 applying the same rule / policy. In the following, although some operations are described from a perspective of the terminal device 210, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the network device 220. Similarly, although some operations are  described from a perspective of the network device 220, it is to be understood that the corresponding operations should be performed by the terminal device 210. Merely for brevity, some of the same or similar contents are omitted here.

[0114] In addition, in the following description, some interactions are performed among the terminal device 210 and the network device 220 (such as, exchanging configuration (s) and so on) . It is to be understood that the interactions may be implemented either in one single signaling / message / configuration or multiple signaling / messages / configurations, including system information, radio resource control (RRC) message, downlink control information (DCI) message, uplink control information (UCI) message, media access control (MAC) control element (CE) and so on.The present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0115] In the following example embodiments, the terminal device 210 is serving by the first cell 230-1. Further, the second cell 230-2 is a candidate cell for the terminal device 210. In view of this, the first cell 230-1 is referred to as a source cell 230-1 or a serving cell 230-1, and the second cell 230-2 is referred to as a candidate cell 230-2 and the target cell 230-2.

[0116] Further, in some embodiments, both the first cell 230-1 and the second cell 230-2 may be provided by the network device 220-1. In some other embodiments, the first cell 230-1 and the second cell 230-2 may be provided by the network device 220-1 and the network device 230-2, respectively.

[0117] As discussed above, the technology of AI / ML has been introduced and thus the terminal device 210 / network device 220 may predict when the terminal device will switch to the second cell (or when the communication condition will deteriorate) .

[0118] Reference is now made to FIG. 3A and FIG. 3B, which illustrate a signaling flow of communication 300A and a graph 300B of channel quality in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure, respectively.

[0119] As illustrated in FIG. 3A, based on AI / ML technology (e.g., target cell prediction, temporal L1 / L3 metric prediction) , the network device 220 may know when it is necessary to switch to the target cell in the future. Therefore, the LTM command may be sent to terminal device 210 in advance when the channel quality of the first cell 230-1 (i.e., the source / serving cell) is good.

[0120] As for the terminal device 210, when receiving the LTM command successfully, the terminal device 210 may not immediately (or normally) perform the cell switch, while  performs the cell switch after some time (i.e., a specific period of time, which is referred to as delay duration in the following) .

[0121] Reference is now made to FIG. 4, which illustrate a signaling flow 400 of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0122] In FIG. 4, the terminal device 210 receives 420, from a network device 220 providing a first cell 230-1 that serves the terminal device 210, an LTM-based cell switch command of a second cell 230-2 to be switched to at a future time instance. Instead performing the cell switch to the second cell 230-2 immediately, as illustrated in FIG. 4, the terminal device 210 delays performing a cell switch to the second cell 230-2 indicated by the LTM-based cell switch command based at least in part on a delay duration.

[0123] In some embodiments, the value of the delay duration may be determined based on machine learning (ML) -related information.

[0124] Reference is now made to FIG. 5A illustrates a block of prediction timing 500A in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0125] In FIG. 5A, the delay duration may be determined based on AI / ML related information. In some embodiments, the AI / ML related information may comprise a prediction time. The delay duration may be determined based on the prediction time. The schematic diagram of the prediction time is shown below, the prediction time may be T1 or T2 as illustrated in FIG. 5A, i.e., time interval between a measurement / reporting time instance and a future time instance, or between two future time instances.

[0126] Moreover, the prediction time may be included in AI / ML related information that is exchanged between the network device 220 and the terminal device 210. Specifically, if the AI / ML model is at the terminal device 210, the terminal device 210 may report a UE capability that comprises the AI / ML related information including the prediction time. Alternatively, if the AI / ML model is at the network device 220, the network device 220 may transmit to the terminal device 210 a signaling that indicates the AI / ML related information including the prediction time.

[0127] In addition to determining the delay duration may be based on the AI / ML related information, in some embodiments, the value of delay duration may be configured as a default value. Alternatively, in some embodiments, the value of the delay duration may be configured by the network device 220.

[0128] In addition to the delay duration, the other parameter (s) used for delaying performing the cell switch to the second cell 230-2 also may be default as a default configuration (s) .  Alternatively, the parameter (s) may be configured by the network device 220. Specifically, the terminal device 210 may receive configuration information from the network device 220 (i.e., the first cell 230-1) . Details about how to exchange the configuration information will be discussed as below.

[0129] In some embodiments, the configuration information is comprised in one of the following: a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) , or downlink control information (DCI) .

[0130] Additionally, in some embodiments, if the configuration information is comprised in DCI, the DCI may be carried on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) scrambled by a specific radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) or with a specific format.

[0131] In some embodiments, the configuration information may indicate at least one of the following:

[0132] ● the delay duration,

[0133] ● a time window within which a function of delaying performing a cell switch is enabled,

[0134] ● a first indication used for enabling or disabling the function of delaying performing a cell switch,

[0135] ● a second indication used for enabling or disabling a function of mobility prediction at the terminal device 210.

[0136] In some embodiments, the delay duration may be represented by one of the following:

[0137] ● a time length of the delay duration,

[0138] ● an index associated with a time length of the delay duration, or

[0139] ● a multiple of a predefined periodicity.

[0140] In some embodiments, the configuration information may comprise a first field used for indicating the first indication and a second field used for indicating the delay duration. In this event, if the first field indicates that the function of delaying performing a cell switch is disabled, the network device 220 may:

[0141] ● ignore the second filed,

[0142] ● reuse at least part of bits corresponding to the second filed are set as reserved bits,

[0143] ● set at least part of bits corresponding to the second filed are ‘0’ , or

[0144] ● set a value of the delay duration indicated by the second field is zero.

[0145] Accordingly, if the first field indicates that the function of delaying performing a cell switch is disabled, the terminal device 210 may:

[0146] ● ignore the second filed,

[0147] ● assume at least part of bits corresponding to the second filed are set as reserved bits,

[0148] ● assume at least part of bits corresponding to the second filed are ‘0’ , or

[0149] ● assume a value of the delay duration indicated by the second field is zero.

[0150] In some embodiments, the configuration information may be comprised in at least one first message different from the LTM-based cell switch command. As illustrated in FIG. 4, the network device 220 may transmit 410 the first message (s) to the terminal device 210.

[0151] Alternatibely, the configuration information may be comprised in the LTM-based cell switch command.

[0152] For better understanding the above processes, some embodiments will be further discussed with references to FIG. 5B to 5D, which illustrate signaling flows 500B, 500C and 500D of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0153] In FIG. 5B, when receiving an LTM command successfully, the terminal device 210 may perform the LTM (i.e., cell switch) indicated by the LTM command after a delay duration.

[0154] Further, for a received LTM command, the terminal device 210 needs to determine whether delayed LTM is needed. In other words, the network device 220 needs to inform or indicate the terminal device 210 that cell switch indicated by the LTM command needs to be delayed.

[0155] Reference is now made to FIG. 5C, where the signaling enabling the delayed LTM is separate from the LTM command (e.g., an LTM command in release 18 , i.e., CSC) . Specifically, the configuration information may be comprised in at least one first message different from the LTM-based cell switch command. In this way, the network device 220 may inform the terminal device 210 whether the cell switch indicated by the LTM command needs to be delayed.

[0156] In some embodiments, at least one first message may be used to enable a delayed LTM or AI / ML related function (e.g., target cell prediction, temporal L1 / L3 metric prediction, model inference, and so on) .

[0157] In some embodiments, after the first message is received (successfully) , if the terminal device 210 receives an LTM command (i.e., CSC) , the terminal device 210 may delay the cell switch indicated by the LTM command.

[0158] In some embodiments, the first message may also indicate a window, which means that the terminal device 210 may assume delayed LTM or AI / ML related function is enabled during the indicated window. Specifically, after the first message is received (successfully) , if the terminal device 210 receives an LTM command during the indicated window, the terminal  device 210 will delay the cell switch indicated by the LTM command.

[0159] In some embodiments, the first message may be an RRC, MAC CE or DCI. Additionally, the first message may be a PDCCH (i.e., DCI) scrambled by a specific RNTI, or a PDCCH with a specific DCI format, where the specific RNTI or DCI format is specific or dedicated for the delayed LTM or AI / ML related function.

[0160] In some embodiments, a new field may be included in the first message. Additionally, the new field may occupy 1 bit, e.g., the bit value “1” indicates that the delayed LTM is enabled, while the bit value “0” indicates the delayed LTM is disabled.

[0161] Optionally, the new field occupies N (N>1) bits, e.g., the bit value “0” indicates that the delayed LTM is disabled. And each one of the other bit values indicates a delay duration, which implies that the delayed LTM is enabled.

[0162] When the delayed LTM is enabled, if the cell switch is determined to be delayed, the terminal device 210 may further need to determine the (corresponding) delay duration. In other words, the network device 220 needs to inform or indicate the delay duration to the terminal device 210.

[0163] It is to be understood that information used for enabling the delayed LTM or AI / ML related function and information used for indicating the delay duration may be comprised in a single first message, or two different first messages.

[0164] In some embodiments, the delay duration may be explicitly and directly indicated by the at least one first message. In this way, the terminal device 210 may determine the delay duration.

[0165] As discussed above, the first message may indicate the delay duration by including a new field that occupies N (N>1) bits, e.g., the bit value “0” indicates that the delayed LTM is disabled. And each one of the other bit values indicates a delay duration, which implies that the delayed LTM is enabled.

[0166] In some embodiments, if the first message is an RRC, the first message may indicate one of the following:

[0167] ● an absolute (or actual) value of the delay duration, e.g., 10ms, 20ms, 100ms, or

[0168] ● A value related to the delay duration. The value may be a multiple of a predefined time (e.g., period of prediction, RS resource (set) , or L1 / L3 measurement or reporting) . The delay duration is determined based on the indicated value.

[0169] If the first message is a MAC CE or DCI, the first message may indicate one of the following:

[0170] ● An absolute (or actual) value of the delay duration, e.g., 10ms, 20ms, 100ms.

[0171] ● An index associated with the delay duration, e.g., 0, 1, 2. The index is (pre-) configured by the network device 220by using RRC signaling.

[0172] ● A value related to the delay duration. The value may be a multiple of a predefined time (e.g., period of prediction, RS resource (set) , or L1 / L3 measurement or reporting) . The delay duration is determined based on the indicated value.

[0173] Reference is now made to FIG. 5D, where the signaling enabling the delayed LTM is included in the LTM command (e.g., a new LTM command introduced in release 19 different from the CSC in release 18) .

[0174] In some embodiments, compared with the legacy LTM command (i.e., CSC) , new field (s) may be introduced.

[0175] In some embodiments, at least one of the following fields may be included in the LTM command:

[0176] ● first field that indicates whether the LTM indicated by the LTM command is delayed, or

[0177] ● second field that indicates a delay duration.

[0178] For a received LTM command, the terminal device 210 may determine whether the LTM indicated by the LTM command and the (corresponding) delay duration based on the information included in the LTM command.

[0179] The LTM command may be an RRC, MAC CE or DCI. Further, the LTM command may comprise a variable size with at least one of the following fields:

[0180] ● First field: This field indicates whether the LTM indicated the LTM command is delayed. The length of the field is 1 bit. If this field is set to 1, the terminal device 210 may delay the LTM indicated by the LTM command. Otherwise, i.e., this field is set to 0, the LTM indicated by the LTM command is not delayed. In this case, the LTM command is similar to the R18 LTM command (i.e., CSC) , i.e., the terminal device 210shall preform the LTM indicated by the LTM command without additional delay duration.

[0181] ● Second field: This field indicates a delay duration. The length of the field is N1 (N1>0) bits.

[0182] In some embodiments, the second field may indicate one of the following:

[0183] ● An absolute (or actual) value of the delay duration, e.g., 10ms, 20ms, 100ms.

[0184] ● An index associated with the delay duration, e.g., 0, 1, 2. The index is (pre-) configured by the network device 220by using RRC signaling.

[0185] ● A value related to the delay duration. The value may be a multiple of a predefined time  (e.g., period of prediction, RS resource (set) , or L1 / L3 measurement or reporting) . The delay duration is determined based on the indicated value.

[0186] In some embodiments, if the LTM command comprises both the first field and the second field, and if the first field is set to 0, the terminal device 210 (and / or the network device 220) may perform at least one of the following:

[0187] ● assuming all bits of the second field are set to 0;

[0188] ● assuming that the N2 (0<N2≤N1) most significant bit (MSB) or least significant bit (LSB) of the second field is considered as a reserved bit and the remaining (N1-N2) bits are set to zero; or

[0189] ● ignoring the second field.

[0190] In case that the LTM command comprises the second field but does not comprise the first field, if all bit (s) of the second field are set to 0, the terminal device 210 may assume the delay duration is zero, which means that the cell switch indicated by the LTM command is not delayed. Otherwise, the terminal device 210 may delay the cell switch indicated by the LTM command based on the indicated delay duration.

[0191] In some embodiment, in addition to the first field and the second field, the LTM command may comprises at least one of the following information:

[0192] ● candidate cell indicator of the target cell,

[0193] ● timing advance (TA) information,

[0194] ● TCI state ID,

[0195] ● active UL BWP ID,

[0196] ● active DL BWP ID,

[0197] ● triggering of aperiodic tracking reference signal (TRS) transmitted from the target cell,

[0198] ● triggering the Channel State Information (CSI) acquisition of the target cell and reporting to the target cell,

[0199] ● triggering of aperiodic sounding reference signal SRS transmitted to the target cell, or

[0200] ● cell-radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) .

[0201] In the following, more details about how to delay performing the cell switch to the second cell 230-2 will be discussed.

[0202] In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may transmit feedback information of the LTM-based cell switch command to the network device 220 at a second time instance. Then, the terminal device 210 performs the cell switch to the second cell 230-2 at a third time instance which is the first slot after a period from the second time instance, the period at least comprising the delay duration.

[0203] Reference is now made to FIG. 6, which illustrates a signaling flow 600 of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0204] In FIG. 6, a new time duration (e.g., delay duration) is introduced. Based on the defined delay duration, the terminal device 210 / network device 220 may know when to start to delay the cell switch indicated by the LTM command, and when to start to perform the cell switch indicated by the LTM command.

[0205] Further, In FIG. 6, T is the delay duration and the starting position of the delay duration T is the first slot that is after slot n+T’ , where T’ may be zero, or determined based on at least one of the following:

[0206] ● which refers to the number of slots per subframe for subcarrier spacing configuration μ, and may be 3ms sometimes,

[0207] ● beam application time, e.g., BeamAppTime-r17,

[0208] ● radio frequency (RF) retuning time.

[0209] As shown in the FIG. 6, in case that the terminal device 210 transmits a PUCCH with HARQ-ACK information in slot n corresponding to the PDSCH carrying the LTM command, the terminal device 210 may start to perform the LTM indicated by the LTM command from the first slot that is after slot n + T + T’ .

[0210] In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may start a timer corresponding to the delay duration upon receiving the LTM-based cell switch command or transmitting feedback information of the LTM-based cell switch command. Then, upon an expiry of the timer, the terminal device 210 may perform the cell switch to the second cell 230-2.

[0211] In some embodiments, a new timer corresponding to the delay duration (e.g., delay duration timer) may be introduced, as illustrated in 7A, which illustrates a signaling flow 700A of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. Based on the defined delay duration timer, the terminal device 210 / network device 220 may know when to start to delay the cell switch indicated by the LTM command, and when to start to perform the cell switch indicated by the LTM command.

[0212] In some embodiments, the configuration information is indicated by the first message (s) rather than the LTM command, via such as RRC. In this event, the terminal device 210 (or the MAC entity) may be configured by the RRC (per serving cell) with a delayed LTM. The RRC may configure at least one of a parameter that indicates a delay duration timer, or a parameter that indicates an LTM window. If the terminal device 210 (or the MAC entity) receives an LTM command (during the LTM window if it is configured) , the  terminal device 210 may start or restart the delay duration timer, and / or delay the LTM (i.e., cell switch) . If the delay duration timer expires, the terminal device 210 may perform cell switch.

[0213] For another example, the first message (s) may be a DCI. In this event, the terminal device 210 (or the MAC entity) may receive an indication about a delayed LTM and / or a delay duration from lower layers. If the terminal device 210 (or the MAC entity) receives an LTM command, the terminal device 210 may start or restart the delay duration timer and / or delay the LTM. If the delay duration timer expires, the terminal device 210 may perform cell switch.

[0214] In some embodiments, the configuration information is indicated in the LTM command as illustrated in 7B, which illustrates a signaling flow 700B of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In this event, if the terminal device 210 (or the MAC entity) receives an LTM command (on a serving cell) and if an indication of delayed LTM and / or a delay duration is included in the LTM command, the terminal device 210 may start or restart the delay duration timer, and / or delay the LTM. If the delay duration timer expires, the terminal device 210 may perform LTM.

[0215] In some cases, performance of the AI / ML model may not be good, which may result in inaccurate prediction of the target cell or L1 / L3 metrics. In this case, a wrong LTM decision may be caused, as illustrated in 8A, which illustrates a block 800A of prediction process in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In view of this, after the LTM command is received, or during the delay duration, a measurement may be performed, as illustrated in 8B, which illustrates a signaling flow 800B of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The measurement may be a (L1 / L3) measurement for the serving cell and / or target cell. For example, the measurement resource (i.e., RS configured for the measurement report) for the measurement may be transmitted from at least the target cell, and the measurement results is reported to the source cell. Based on the measurement, the wrong LTM decision may be avoided.

[0216] Still refer to FIG. 4. As illustrated in FIG. 4, in order to ensure the decision of transmitting the LTM-based cell switch command is correct, after transmitting the LTM-based cell switch command, the terminal device 210 may perform 450 a measurement on at least one of the first cell 230-1 or the second cell 230-2 and the network device 220 may further receive 460 measurement results from the terminal device 210.

[0217] In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may perform the measurement on at least one of the first cell 230-1 or the second cell 230-2 within a beginning period of the delay  duration.

[0218] In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may transmit a measurement report to the network device 220, where the measurement report may comprise measurement results of the first cell 230-1 and / or the second cell 230-2. In some embodiments, the measurement report may be periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic measurement report.

[0219] In some embodiments, the measurement report may comprise at least one of the following: layer 1 or layer 3 measurement results of the first cell 230-1, or layer 1 or layer 3 measurement results of the second cell 230-2.

[0220] In some embodiments, reporting the measurement results may be event-triggered. In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may determine the predefined condition is met upon detecting at least one of the following:

[0221] ● a measurement quality of the second cell 230-2 being lower than or equal to a first threshold quality,

[0222] ● the measurement quality of the second cell 230-2 being higher than or equal to a second threshold quality,

[0223] ● a different between the measurement quality of the second cell 230-2 and a measurement quality of the first cell 230-1 being larger than or equal to a third threshold quality,

[0224] ● the different between the measurement quality of the second cell 230-2 and the measurement quality of the first cell 230-1 being smaller than or equal to a third threshold quality,

[0225] ● a different between the measurement quality of the second cell 230-2 and a predicted quality of the second cell 230-2 being larger than or equal to a third threshold quality, or

[0226] ● the different between the measurement quality of the second cell 230-2 and the predicted quality of the second cell 230-2 being smaller than or equal to a third threshold quality.

[0227] In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that a predefined condition is met, the terminal device 210 may transmit a measurement report comprising a third indication indicating a state about whether a predefined condition that triggers the measurement report is met. Alternatively, in accordance with a determination that a predefined condition is met, the terminal device 210 may transmit measurement information.

[0228] In some embodiments, the measurement information may be associated with at least one of the following to the network device 220:

[0229] ● a fourth indication used for stopping the cell switch to the second cell 230-2 indicated by the LTM-based cell switch command or used for starting the cell switch to the second cell 230-2, or

[0230] ● a measurement report comprising an indication indicating the predefined condition is met,

[0231] ● layer 1 or layer 3 measurement results of the first cell 230-1, or

[0232] ● layer 1 or layer 3 measurement results of the second cell 230-2.

[0233] In some embodiments, the measurement information is indicated by a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) associated with a dedicated scheduling request (SR) .

[0234] In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may transmit the measurement information or the measurement report upon the number of times of determining the predefined condition is met being larger than or equal to a threshold number.

[0235] In some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may determine first measurement resources used for measuring the first cell 230-1, the measurement resources comprising RS resources associated with a TCI state which is applied to the first cell 230-1.

[0236] Alternatively, or in addition, in some embodiments, the terminal device 210 may determine second measurement resources used for measuring the second cell 230-2, the measurement resources comprising reference signal (RS) resources associated with a transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state indicated in the LTM-based cell switch command, wherein the TCI state is to be applied to the second cell 230-2.

[0237] In some embodiments, prior to performing the measurement on at least one of the first cell 230-1 or the second cell 230-2, the terminal device 210 may receive a measurement configuration from the network device 220. In particular, the measurement configuration may indicate measurement resources to be used by the terminal device 210 for measuring the first cell 230-1 and / or the second cell 230-2.

[0238] In some embodiments, the measurement configuration may be comprised in the LTM-based cell switch command, or comprised in at least one first message, or comprised in at least one second message different from the LTM-based cell switch command (as illustrated in FIG. 4, the network device 220 may transmit 440 at least one second message to the terminal device 210, where the second message (s) may comprise the measurement configuration) .

[0239] In some embodiments, the measurement configuration may comprise at least one of the following:

[0240] ● a third field indicating a set of parameters used for reporting the measurement results;

[0241] ● a fourth filed indicating that the measurement results are transmitted to the first cell 230-1, or

[0242] ● a fifth filed indicating measurement resources to be used by the terminal device 210 for measuring at least one of the first cell 230-1 or the second cell 230-2.

[0243] In some embodiments, upon receiving the measurement results, the network device 220 may transmit 470 a third message indicating a fifth indication used for stopping the cell switch to the second cell 230-2 indicated by the LTM-based cell switch command (that is, the network device 220 notice that the terminal device 210 shall not switch to the second cell) .

[0244] Alternatively, in some embodiments, upon receiving the measurement results, the network device 220 may transmit 470 a third message indicating a sixth indication used for starting the cell switch to the second cell 230-2 (that is, the decision of delay performing the cell switch to the second cell is improper) .

[0245] In order to a better understanding of the above processes, some example processes will be further discussed with reference to FIG. 9, which illustrates a signaling flow 900 of communication in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0246] In some embodiments, the measurement information / report may be triggered by an RRC, MAC CE or DCI, which may be transmitted from the network device 220 after transmitting the LTM command. Optionally, the measurement information / report may be triggered by the LTM command (e.g., MAC CE) . In this case, the LTM command may comprise at least one of the following fields:

[0247] ● Third field. The third field may indicate the measurement information / report. In other words, the terminal device 210 may determine configuration information related to the measurement report based on the information indicated by the third field. For example, it indicates an index (e.g., LTM-CSI-ReportConfigId) associated with the measurement report (e.g., LTM-CSI-ReportConfig) .

[0248] ● Fourth field. The fourth field may indicate the measurement information / report is used to distinguish the measurement report (called as ‘first measurement report’ ) from another measurement report (called as ‘second measurement report’ ) indicated by the LTM command. For example.

[0249] ● Fifth field. The fifth field may indicate the measurement resource (e.g., SSB, CSI-RS resource) for the measurement report.

[0250] In some embodiments, the fourth field may indicate whether the corresponding measurement report is reported to the source cell or the target cell. E. g., the first  measurement report is reported to the source cell, and the second measurement report is reported to the target cell. Further, this field may further indicate whether the corresponding measurement report is performed within the delay duration.

[0251] In some embodiments, the measurement resources for the measurement report may be determined based on the triggered measurement report, e.g., the measurement resource associated with measurement report triggered by network device 220. It is indicated by at least one RRC, MAC CE or DCI, e.g., (the fifth field in) the LTM command.

[0252] In some embodiments, the measurement resources for the measurement report may be determined based on at least one predefined RS, e.g., the source RS (e.g., QCL-TypeD source RS) associated with the TCI state indicated by the LTM command, the source RS (e.g., QCL-TypeD source RS) associated with the TCI state that is applicable to the channel or RS transmitted in the source cell. This embodiment may be adopted when the terminal device 210 is provided with the above measurement resource associated with the measurement report, or the measurement resource indicated by the RRC / MAC CE / DCI.

[0253] In some embodiments, the type of the measurement report may be periodic, semi-persistent, aperiodic measurement report or event triggered.

[0254] For the event triggered measurement report / information, the terminal device 210 may report the measurement report / information when at least one predefined condition is fulfilled. In some embodiments, the at least one predefined condition comprise at least one of the following:

[0255] ● The measurement result of the target cell (i.e., L1 / L3 metrics corresponding to the measurement resource associated with the target cell) is less (or larger) than a first threshold.

[0256] ● The difference between the measurement result of the target cell and the measurement result of the source cell is less (or larger) than a second threshold.

[0257] ● The difference between the measurement result of a set of measurement resources and the predicted result corresponding to the set of measurement resources is larger than a third threshold. This condition implies that the performance of the AI / ML model is not good.

[0258] Additionally, in some embodiments, when the number of consecutive occurrences of at least one predefined condition exceeds or equal to a fourth threshold, the terminal device 210 may report the measurement report / information. For example, if at least one predefined  condition is fulfilled, an indication is transmitted from lower layers to higher layers (e.g., MAC layer) . If the higher layer receives the indication from lower layers, increment a predefined counter set by 1. The predefined counter is initially set to 0 when the terminal device 210is indicated with the measurement report. If the predefined counter >= the fourth threshold, the measurement report / information may be triggered.

[0259] Furthermore, the terminal device 210 only needs to perform the measurement report in a time duration within the delay duration, where the time duration may be indicated by an RRC / MAC CE / DCI, e.g., the LTM command. In some embodiments, the starting position of the time duration may be the same as that of the delay duration.

[0260] In some embodiments, if the measurement report is periodic, semi-persistent or event triggered, the measurement report may be stopped based on the time duration. For example, if the measurement duration (defined as a default value, configured by the network device 220, or reported by the terminal device 210) expires, the terminal device 210 stops (or deactivates) the measurement results reporting. Additionally, set the predefined counter to 0.

[0261] In some embodiments, the measurement report may comprise at least one of the following:

[0262] ● L1 metric corresponding to the target cell and / or the source cell.

[0263] ● L3 metric corresponding to the target cell and / or the source cell.

[0264] ● A third indication. The third indication may be used to indicate a state. The state can be determined based on at least one predefined condition. For example, the third indication indicates whether at least one predefined condition is fulfilled.

[0265] In some embodiments, the measurement report may be carried by the PUCCH or PUSCH resource.

[0266] Additionally, the terminal device 210 may report a fourth indication to the network device 220. For example, the terminal device 210 may transmit a fourth indication to the network device 220 when at least one predefined condition is fulfilled, or when the number of consecutive occurrences of at least one predefined condition exceeds or equal to the fourth threshold. For example, the fourth indication may be a request for one of stopping LTM, stopping delayed LTM, or starting (legacy) LTM. The fourth indication may be indicated by a PUCCH with the request, the PUCCH is associated with a dedicated SR (i.e., a dedicated schedulingRequestID) .

[0267] Based on the measurement results, the network device 220 may notice that the  target cell indicated by the LTM command may be incorrect (e.g., the quality of the target cell is not good enough, or the quality of the source cell is not poor enough) , or the time to switch to the target cell may be incorrect (e.g., the LTM needs to be performed in advance, rather than waiting until the delay duration expires) . In this case, a new LTM decision may be generated to avoid the wrong LTM.

[0268] As illustrated in FIG. 9, the network device 220 may transmit a third message to the terminal device 210 during the delay duration, the third signaling may be used for one of the following: disabling the delayed LTM, disabling (or ignoring) the delay duration, triggering a (legacy) LTM.

[0269] When the LTM decision corresponding to the delayed LTM is wrong, a new LTM decision may be informed to the terminal device 210 based on the third message to avoid the wrong cell switch. For example, the third message may be used to disable the delayed LTM. If the terminal device 210 receives the third message (successfully) , the terminal device 210 may assume that the delayed LTM is disabled, i.e., stop the delayed LTM. Additionally, at least one of the following information activated by the recent LTM command are deactivated (or ignored) : delay duration, candidate cell indicator of the target cell, TA information, TCI state ID, active UL BWP ID, active DL BWP ID, triggering of AP TRS transmitted from the target cell, triggering the CSI acquisition of the target cell and reporting to the target cell, triggering of AP SRS transmitted to the target cell, or C-RNTI.

[0270] For another example, the third message may be used to disable the delay duration, and trigger a (legacy) LTM. In this event, if the terminal device 210 receives the third message (successfully) , the terminal device 210 may ignore the delay duration, and perform the LTM indicated by the (recent) LTM command. Information related to the LTM (e.g., target cell, TA information, TCI state ID, etc. ) may be determined based on the (recent) LTM command.

[0271] The third message may be an RRC, MAC-CE or DCI, and further the third message may comprise a candidate cell indicator of the target cell.

[0272] According to the above processes, the LTM-based CSC may be transmitted to the terminal device when the communication condition does not deteriorate too much and thus it is guaranteed that the CSC may be transmitted to the terminal device successfully. Further, by delaying performing a cell switch to the second cell, it is ensured that the cell switch may be performed at a proper time instance.

[0273] Example Methods

[0274] FIG. 10 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 1000 implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1000 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 210 in FIG. 2A.

[0275] At block 1010, the terminal device receives, from a network device providing a first cell that serves the terminal device, a layer 1 / layer 2 (L1 / L2) triggered mobility (LTM) -based cell switch command of a second cell to be switched to at a future time instance.

[0276] At block 1020, the terminal device delays performing a cell switch to the second cell indicated by the LTM-based cell switch command based at least in part on a delay duration.

[0277] In some example embodiments, the processor is further configured to cause the terminal device to: receive, from the first cell, configuration information indicating at least one of the following: the delay duration, a time window within which a function of delaying performing a cell switch is enabled, a first indication used for enabling or disabling the function of delaying performing a cell switch, a second indication used for enabling or disabling a function of mobility prediction at the terminal device, or a measurement configuration indicates measurement resources to be used by the terminal device for measuring at least one of: the first cell or the second cell.

[0278] In some example embodiments, the configuration information is comprised in the LTM-based cell switch command, or comprised in at least one first message different from the LTM-based cell switch command.

[0279] In some example embodiments, the configuration information is comprised in one of the following: a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) , or downlink control information (DCI) .
