AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Current diffuse correlation tomography (DCT) and diffuse optical tomography (DOT) systems face challenges in providing spatially resolved blood flow indices (BFI) while being cost-effective and minimizing system complexity.
Method used
The apparatus and method involve a probe head with multiple output and receiving units, an optical arrangement, and a switching arrangement that allows for multiple measuring modes, enabling efficient detection of photons from different positions without the need for multiple sources or physical scanning.
Benefits of technology
This approach enhances the performance of DCT and DOT by providing improved spatial resolution of BFI, reducing system cost and complexity, and facilitating rapid data acquisition.

Abstract
Apparatus and methods are disclosed for performing diffuse correlation tomography and / or diffuse optical tomography. In one arrangement, an apparatus comprises a plurality of detectors of electromagnetic radiation. A probe head is configured to be positioned against or adjacent to a target and comprises a plurality of output units configured to output radiation from a source towards the target and one or a plurality of sets of receiving units configured to receive radiation emitted from the target. An optical arrangement provides optical paths for guiding radiation between the source and the output units and between the receiving units and the detectors. A switching arrangement controls the optical arrangement to selectively implement a plurality of measuring modes. Each measuring mode involves optical connection of the source to a corresponding output unit of the plurality of output units. The corresponding output unit is different for each measuring mode.
