AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing vehicle powertrain control systems often cause driveline disturbances when changing drive modes, such as from forward to reverse, especially at higher speeds, leading to discomfort for the driver and passengers.

Method used

A control system that receives vehicle speed and drive mode change signals, delaying the drive mode change instruction if the vehicle speed is above a certain threshold, thereby reducing driveline disturbances and wear on powertrain components.

Benefits of technology

The solution effectively mitigates driveline disturbances and reduces wear on powertrain components by ensuring drive mode changes occur at or below a specified speed threshold, enhancing the comfort and longevity of the vehicle.

Abstract

Aspects of the present invention relate to a control system (100), a system, a vehicle (1), a method and computer readable instructions. The control system is configured to receive (S410) a plurality of input parameters (142) comprising: a vehicle speed signal (143) indicative of a vehicle speed; and a drive mode change signal (144) indicating that a drive mode change between a forward driving mode (D) and a reverse driving mode (R) is required. Then, determine (S420), in dependence on the input parameters (142), whether the vehicle speed is greater than a speed threshold when the drive mode change is required. In response to determining that the vehicle speed is greater than the speed threshold, delay outputting (S440) a drive mode change instruction signal (153) until the vehicle speed is less than or equal to the speed threshold.
