AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In VR and MR environments, users find it difficult to grasp real objects when virtual items are superimposed on them, as the shape of the overlapped item often does not match the real object.

Method used

An information processing system that estimates the position and orientation of a real object from an image, renders a virtual item superimposed on the real object, and adjusts the display mode of the overlapped portion to match the grippy parts of the real object, thereby enhancing user interaction.

Benefits of technology

The system allows users to easily grasp real objects with superimposed virtual items, improving user experience by ensuring intuitive interaction between real and virtual objects.

Abstract

The present invention facilitates grasping of a real object on which a virtual item is superimposed. This information processing system: infers the position and attitude of a real object from an image in which the real object is captured (S101); draws, on the basis of the inferred position and attitude, a virtual item to be superimposed on the real object (S107); and acquires information indicating a portion of the item to be superimposed on a graspable portion of the real object (S103). The information processing system changes a display mode of the superimposed portion indicated by the information (S106, S107).
