Abstract

This communication assistance device comprises: a determination unit that determines whether a driver who drives a vehicle is aware of the presence of a traffic participant passing by outside of the vehicle; and a control unit that, when it is determined that the driver is aware of the presence of the traffic participant, causes an exterior light provided outside the vehicle cabin of the vehicle to be illuminated in a first lighting state, and when it is determined that the driver is not aware of the presence of the traffic participant, causes the exterior light to be illuminated in a second lighting state different from the first lighting state. The control unit displays the lighting state of the exterior light on an in-cabin human machine interface (HMI) that transmits information to the driver.
