AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing telecommunications approaches lack signaling procedures for configuring CSI-RS resources for a candidate cell to enable user equipment (UE) to perform appropriate L1 measurements and beam management (BM) for cell switch decisions, leading to poor time and frequency synchronization with the target cell.

Method used

The method, apparatus, and computer program product provide improved solutions for provisioning CSI-RS configurations to the UE, dividing them into two portions: one for L1 measurement and another for BM, and allowing the UE to merge or combine these configurations for efficient measurement and reporting post-cell switch.

Benefits of technology

This approach minimizes overhead by enabling efficient CSI-RS configuration for L1 measurements and BM, improving time and frequency synchronization with the target cell during handover.

Abstract

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for provisioning channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) configurations to a user equipment (UE) for layer-one (L1) measurement and cell configuration. In the context of a method, the method includes receiving at least CSI-RS configuration for a candidate cell from a network node, the at least one CSI-RS configuration comprising: a first set of CSI-RS configurations for L1 measurement; and a second set of CSI-RS configurations for candidate cell configuration; executing a cell switch to the candidate cell in response to a control message from the network node; and determining a subset of CSI-RSs of the candidate cell for at least one of beam management or CSI reporting based on the first set of CSI-RS configurations and the second set of CSI-RS configurations.
