Abstract
Description
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REDIRECTING CONNECTION OF A CUSTOMER PREMISES EQUIPMENT TO A DOMINANT CELLTECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication networks and systems. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a system and a method for redirecting a connection of a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to a dominant cell in a communication network.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The subject matter disclosed in the background section should not be assumed or construed to be prior art merely due to its mention in the background section. Similarly, any problem statement mentioned in the background section or its association with the subject matter of the background section should not be assumed or construed to have been previously recognized in the prior art.
[0003] With recent advancements in telecommunication networks, migration of end users from one network type to another network type has become prevalent. To satisfy the needs and demands of the end users, network service providers continue to improve and expand available services as well as networks. One aspect of such improvements includes the development of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Customer Premises Equipment (CPE). The FWA-CPEs provide different services to end user devices in different Radio Frequency (RF) environments. Each user device among the end user devices communicates wirelessly with a Base Station (BS) via an FWA- CPE. The FWA-CPEs help in network expansion and improve the performance of the network by providing high speed data services.
[0004] Connecting the FWA-CPEs to an optimal cell in the communication network is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and user experience. Connection of the FWA-CPEs to the optimal cell provides best signal strength, low latency, and highdownlink data throughput, which impacts the reliability of the connection with the end user devices.
[0005] In conventional systems, the optimal cell selection is achieved based on signal strength. The FWA-CPEs scans the available cell and determines the optimal cell based on the signal strength and network load.
[0006] However, when the selected cell is either not nearby the server or not in line of sight of the FWA-CPEs, the signal reaches to the receiver of the FWA-CPEs as over shooter or after a reflection or diffraction, causing performance issue to the users under those FWA-CPEs. Further, connecting a large number of FWA-CPEs to a cell leads to congestion, which in turn leads to reduced data speeds, packet loss, and interference that degrades signal quality and further results in dropped connections and poor service reliability. Also, the conventional systems do not dynamically redirect the FWA-CPEs to the optimal cell based on real-time or crowdsourced signal intelligence.
[0007] In light of the aforementioned challenges, there is a need for a solution that can address the issue of redirecting a connection of a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to a dominant cell effectively and efficiently.SUMMARY
[0008] The following embodiments present a simplified summary in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the disclosed invention. This summary is not an extensive overview, and it is not intended to identify key / critical elements or to delineate the scope thereof. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.
[0009] In an embodiment, a method for redirecting a connection of a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to a dominant cell is disclosed. The method includes identifying, by an identification module, one or more CPEs among a plurality of CPEs having a status as active. The method further includes acquiring, by anacquisition module, crowd source data from one or more serving cells of the one or more CPEs. Further, the method includes determining, by a determination module based on the crowd source data, for each active CPE among the one or more CPEs, whether a corresponding CPE has a performance issue. Furthermore, the method includes identifying, by the identification module, among the one or more CPEs having the performance issue, a set of CPEs for which the dominant cell is different from a serving cell among the one or more serving cells. Thereafter, the method includes redirecting, by the determination module, the connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell for which a performance of the dominant cell is above a threshold performance level.
[0010] According to some aspect of the present disclosure, the crowd source data includes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the one or more serving cells serving to the one or more CPEs and KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs. The KPIs of the one or more serving cells include Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ), and Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) associated with the one or more serving cells.
[0011] According to some aspect of the present disclosure, for determining, for each active CPE among the one or more CPEs, whether the corresponding CPE has the performance issue, the method includes determining, by the determination module, whether a value of a Downlink (DL) throughput included in the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs is less than a threshold throughput. The method further includes determining, by the determination module, whether M days average of KPIs of the serving cell is greater than a first threshold KPI. Further, the method includes determining, by the determination module, whether at least one KPI among the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs is less than a second threshold KPI for N days among last P days.
[0012] According to some aspect of the present disclosure, the corresponding CPE has the performance issue if the value of the DL throughput included in the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs is less than the threshold throughput, the Mdays average of KPIs of the serving cell is greater than the first threshold KPI, and the at least one KPI among the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs is less than the second threshold KPI for N days among last P days.
[0013] According to some aspect of the present disclosure, the identification of the set of CPEs is based on location information of the one or more CPEs included in the crowd source data.
[0014] According to some aspect of the present disclosure, the method further includes determining, by the determination module for each CPE among the set of CPEs, whether the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level based on the crowd source data associated with the set of CPEs.
[0015] According to some aspect of the present disclosure, for determining, for each CPE among the set of CPEs, whether the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level, the method includes determining, by the determination module, whether an average of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the dominant cell for last Q days is greater than a third threshold KPI. Further, the method includes determining, by the determination module, that the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level if the average of KPIs of the dominant cell for the last Q days is greater than the third threshold KPI.
[0016] According to some aspect of the present disclosure, the redirecting the connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell is further based on a determination that a corresponding CPE is within a beam width of the dominant cell and a number of CPEs latched to the dominant cell is less than a threshold value.
[0017] According to another aspect of the present disclosure, a system for redirecting a connection of a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to a dominant cell is disclosed. The system includes an identification module configured to identify one or more CPEs among a plurality of CPEs having a status as active. Further, the system includes an acquisition module configured to acquire crowdsource data from one or more serving cells of the one or more CPEs. Furthermore, the system includes a determination module configured to determine, based on the crowd source data, for each active CPE among the one or more CPEs, whether a corresponding CPE has a performance issue. The identification module is further configured to identify, among the one or more CPEs having the performance issue, a set of CPEs for which the dominant cell is different from a serving cell among the one or more serving cells. The determination module is further configured to redirect, the connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell for which a performance of the dominant cell is above a threshold performance level.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

[0070] FIG. 3 illustrates a detailed flow diagram of a method 300 for redirecting the connection of the CPE to the dominant cell, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The method 300 comprises a series of operation steps indicated by blocks 302 through 322. The method 300 starts at block 302.
[0071] At block 302, the processor 204, using the acquisition module 218, may acquire crowd source data from the BSs 102-1 to 102 -N (hereinafter may referred to as “one or more serving cells 102-1 to 102-N”) serving to the one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106-N. The crowd source data includes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the one or more serving cells 102-1 to 102-N and KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106-N. In a non-limiting example, the KPIs of the one or more serving cells 102-1 to 102-N may include Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ), and Signal-to-Interference- plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) received from the one or more serving cells 102-1 to 102- N. Further, in a non-limiting example, the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106-N may include Downlink (DL) throughput of signals receivedthe one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106-N, location information of the one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106-N, and serving cell information of the one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106- N. The location information may refer to latitude longitude information of the one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106-N.
[0072] Upon acquiring the crowd source data, the processor 204, using the acquisition module 218, store the crowd source data in the database 212. The processor 204 may prepare CPE database report associated with the CPEs 106-1 to 106-N based on the crowd source data and may store the CPE database report in the database 212. The CPE database report may include information indicating status of each of the CPEs 106-1 to 106-N. The status of the CPEs 106-1 to 106-N may be one of active or inactive which is based on the crowd source data.
[0073] In one or more embodiments, the processor 204 may acquire the crowd source data periodically a specific time interval. In a non-limiting example, the specific time interval may be one day, one week, or any other time interval.
[0074] At block 304, the processor 204, using the identification module 216, may identify one or more CPEs among the CPEs 106-1 to 106-N having a status as active. The processor 304 may determine the status of the CPEs 106-1 to 106-N using the CPE database report stored in the database 212. If status of each of the CPEs 106-1 to 106-N is inactive, the method 300 terminates.
[0075] At block 306, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine, for each CPE among the one or more CPEs having the status as active, whether a value of the DL throughput included in the KPIs associated with a corresponding CPE is less than a threshold throughput. For example, the threshold throughput may be 30 Mbps. For instance, the processor 204 may filter the one or more CPEs for which the DL throughput is less than the threshold throughput. In one or more embodiment, if DL throughput of all the CPEs 106-1 to 106-N is greater than the threshold throughput, the processor 204 determines that no CPE has the performance issue and the method 300 terminates.
[0076] At block 308, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine, for each CPE among the one or more CPEs for which DL throughput is less than the threshold throughput, whether M days average of the KPIs of a corresponding serving cell included in the crowd source data is greater than a first threshold KPI. In a non-limiting example, M days may be 3 days. In one or more embodiment, if M days average of the KPIs of the corresponding serving cell of each CPE is less than the first threshold KPI, the processor 204 determines that performance issue is at serving cell side and not CPE side, and the method 300 terminates. The KPIs of the serving cell may include the RSRP, the RSRQ, and the SINR received from the corresponding serving cell. In a non-limiting example, a value of the first threshold KPI may be different for different KPIs. Further, the value of the first threshold KPI may be preconfigured or may be configurable by the network operator.
[0077] At block 310, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine, for each CPE among the one or more CPEs for which DL throughput is less than the threshold throughput and the M days average of the KPIs of the corresponding serving cell is greater than the first threshold KPI, whether at least one KPI among the KPIs associated with the corresponding CPE is less than a second threshold KPI for N days among last P days. In a non-limiting example, N days may correspond to 4 days and P days may correspond to 7 days. In one or more embodiment, if each KPI among the KPIs associated with the corresponding CPE is greater than the second threshold KPI for the N days among last P days, the processor 204 determines no CPE has a performance issue and the method 300 terminates. In a non-limiting example, a value of the second threshold KPI may be different for different KPIs associated with the CPEs. Further, the value of the second threshold KPI may be preconfigured or may be configurable by the network operator.
[0078] Based on the determinations at blocks 306-310, the processor 204 identifies or filters at least one CPE among the one or more CPEs having the performance issue. The processor 204 identifies that the at least one CPE among the one or moreCPEs having the performance issue if the value of the DL throughput included in the KPIs associated with the at least one CPE is less than the threshold throughput, the M days average of KPIs of the serving cell associated with the at least one CPE is greater than the first threshold KPI, and the at least one KPI among the KPIs associated with the at least one CPE is less than the second threshold KPI for N days among last P days.
[0079] At block 312, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine the presence of the dominant cell for each CPE among the at least one CPE. If no dominant cell is present for each CPE among the at least one CPE, the flow of the method 300 terminates. For instance, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine the dominant cell for each CPE among the at least one CPE having the performance issue. The dominants cell is identified at a location of each CPE based on the crowd source data.
[0080] At block 314, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine, for each CPE among the at least one CPE, whether the dominant cell is different than the serving cell. For instance, the processor 204 may identify, from the at least one CPE, a set of CPEs for which the dominant cell is different from the serving cell among the one or more serving cells 102-1 to 102-N. Further, the flow of the method 300 terminates for that CPEs for which the dominant cell is same as the serving cell.
[0081] At block 316, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine, for the set of CPEs for which the dominant cell is different from the serving cell, whether each CPE is within a beam width of the dominant cell associated with the corresponding CPE. If the corresponding CPE is within the beam width of the dominant cell, the flow of the method 300 proceeds to block 318. Further, if the corresponding CPE is not within the beam width of the dominant cell, the flow of the method 300 terminates. The determination whether each CPE is within the beam width of the dominant cell is based on the location information of the one or more CPEs 106-1 to 106-N.
[0082] At block 318, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine, for each CPE of the set of CPEs, whether a performance of the dominant cell for the corresponding CPE is above a threshold performance level. For instance, the processor 204 may determine, for each CPE of the set of CPEs, whether an average of the KPIs of the dominant cell for last Q days is greater than a third threshold KPI. Further, the processor 204 may determine that the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level if the average of KPIs of the dominant cell for the last Q days is greater than the third threshold KPI. In a non-limiting example, the Q days may be 3 days. Further, if the average of the KPIs of the dominant cell for the last Q days is less than the third threshold KPI, the processor 204 determines that the performance of the dominant cell is below the threshold performance level, the flow of the method 300 terminates for the corresponding CPE. In a non-limiting example, a value of the third threshold KPI may be different for different KPIs associated with the dominant cell. Further, the value of the third threshold KPI may be preconfigured or may be configurable by the network operator. Further, values of the first threshold KPI, the second threshold KPI, and the third threshold KPI may be different from each other.
[0083] At block 320, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may determine, for each CPE of the set of CPEs, whether a number of CPEs latched to the dominant cell associated with the corresponding CPE is less than a threshold value. In a non-limiting example, the threshold value may be 28. If the number of CPEs latched to the dominant cell is less than the threshold value, the flow of the method 300 proceeds to block 322. Further, if the number of CPEs latched to the dominant cell is more than the threshold value, the flow of the method 300 terminates.
[0084] At block 322, the processor 204, using the determination module 220, may identify, for each CPE of the set of CPEs, that the dominant cell is a candidate serving cell to serve the corresponding CPE and redirect a connection of corresponding CPE to the dominant cell. For instance, the processor 204, may redirect a connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell basedon at least one of the performance of the dominant cell associated with the corresponding CPE is above the threshold performance level, the number of CPEs latched to the dominant cell is less than the threshold value, and the corresponding CPE is not within the beam width of the dominant cell.
[0085] FIG. 4 illustrates a flowchart of a method 400 for redirecting the connection of the CPE to the dominant cell, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure. The method 400 comprises a series of operation steps indicated by blocks 402 through 410. The method 400 starts at block 402.
[0086] At block 402, the identification module 216 may identify the one or more CPEs among the plurality of CPEs 106-1 to 106-N having the status as active.
[0087] At block 404, the acquisition module 218 may acquire the crowd source data from the one or more serving cells 102-1 to 102-N of the one or more CPEs. The crowd source data may include the KPIs of the one or more serving cells 102-1 to 102-N serving to the one or more CPEs and the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs.
[0088] At block 406, the determination module 220 may determine, for each active CPE among the one or more CPEs based on the crowd source data, whether the corresponding CPE has the performance issue. For instance, at first, the determination module 220 may determine whether the value of the DL throughput included in the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs is less than the threshold throughput. Further, the determination module 220 may determine whether M days average of KPIs of the serving cell is greater than the first threshold KPI. Thereafter, the determination module 220 may determine whether the at least one KPI among the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs is less than the second threshold KPI for N days among last P days.
[0089] Upon determining the above three conditions, the determination module 220 may determine that the corresponding CPE has the performance issue if the value of the DL throughput included in the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs isless than the threshold throughput, the M days average of KPIs of the serving cell is greater than the first threshold KPI, and the at least one KPI among the KPIs associated with the one or more CPEs is less than the second threshold KPI for N days among last P days.
[0090] At block 408, identification module 216 may identify, from the one or more CPEs having the performance issue, the set of CPEs for which the dominant cell is different from the serving cell among the one or more serving cells. The identification of the set of CPEs is based on the location information of the one or more CPEs included in the crowd source data.
[0091] At block 410, the determination module 220 may redirect the connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell for which the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level. For instance, at first, the determination module 220 may determine whether the average of the KPIs of the dominant cell for last Q days is greater than the third threshold KPI. Thereafter, the determination module 220 may determine that the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level if the average of KPIs of the dominant cell for the last Q days is greater than the third threshold KPI. For instance, redirecting the connection may refer to reconfiguring or reassigning a connection of the CPE from a current serving cell to the dominant cell.
[0092] In an embodiment, the redirecting the connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell is further based on the determination that the corresponding CPE is within the beam width of the dominant cell and the number of CPEs latched to the dominant cell is less than the threshold value.

The system (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein the determination module (220) is further configured to determine, for each CPE among the set of CPEs, whether the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level based on the crowd source data associated with the set of CPEs.
15. The system (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein, to determine, for each CPE among the set of CPEs, whether the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level, the determination module (220) is configured to: determine whether an average of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the dominant cell for last Q days is greater than a third threshold KPI; and determine that the performance of the dominant cell is above the threshold performance level if the average of KPIs of the dominant cell for the last Q days is greater than the third threshold KPI.
16. The system (200) as claimed in claim 9, wherein the redirecting the connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell is further based on a determination that a corresponding CPE is within a beam width of the dominant cell and a number of CPEs latched to the dominant cell is less than a threshold value.
17. A computer program product comprising computer-executable instructions that are stored on a non-transitory computer-readable medium and that, when executed by at least one processor performs operations comprising: identifying one or more Customer Premises Equipment (CPEs) among a plurality of CPEs (106-1 to 106-N) having a status as active; acquiring crowd source data from one or more serving cells of the one or more CPEs; determining, based on the crowd source data for each active CPE among the one or more CPEs, whether a corresponding CPE has a performance issue; identifying, among the one or more CPEs having the performance issue, a set of CPEs for which a dominant cell is different from a serving cell among the one or more serving cells; and redirecting a connection of each CPE among the set of CPEs to the dominant cell for which a performance of the dominant cell is above a threshold performance level.
