[0002] PORTABLE OUTDOOR EQUIPMENT

[0003] Field of the Invention

[0004] The present invention relates to the field of portable outdoor equipment. More particularly, the invention relates to stiffenable camping and beach equipment.

[0005] Background of the Invention

[0006] Outdoor equipment encompasses many categories, each including various embodiments of similar products, in which the features of storability, portability, and functionality are of primary importance. Sleeping bags and tents are among the most recognizable and widely used products in outdoor equipment and various attempts have been made in the prior art to improve the user experience in this field. Current solutions aimed at improving user comfort include standard mattresses and air mattresses. Standard mattresses that provide effective separation from the ground must have high density and considerable thickness, making them large, heavy, and therefore not portable and difficult to store. On the other hand, thin mattresses can be rolled and offer good portability and storability, but they do not provide sufficient separation between the user and the ground, particularly in challenging terrain conditions. Air mattresses allow the user to have a portable and comfortable surface, but they are prone to damage, especially in rough ground conditions, and require significant effort for inflation and deflation. Moreover, the use of comfortable bedding does not solve the problems of ground moisture and flowing water, which create dirt and may penetrate the tent or sleeping bag, nor does it address the problem of insects moving on the ground and entering the equipment. Partial solutions exist, such as the use of water-impermeable fabrics and complete sealing of the equipment; however, these solutions are cumbersome, require constant maintenance, confine the user inside the equipment (in the case of tents), and do not solve the issue of excessive dirt on the external surface of the equipment, which greatly complicates mobility and necessitates repeated cleaning.

[0007] Additional outdoor equipment includes portable beds, lounge chairs, and folding chairs. Existing solutions that fold into compact forms, for example small cylindrical dimensions, rely on complex constructions comprising collapsible frames made of rods supporting a stretched fabric surface. These solutions provide the user with a non-homogeneous base surface— soft in the central area and stiff along the sides where the support rods are located— and therefore fail to offer the stable and comfortable homogeneous surface associated with conventional non-portable beds and chairs. Other, more comfortable solutions, such as standard folding or rollable beds for domestic use, exist; - 2 - however, they are bulky, with limited portability and storability. Certain solutions that compress into small volumes require considerable effort for assembly and disassembly in the field, and even than typically do not provide a homogeneous and comfortable surface unless an additional mattress is installed.

[0008] There exist outdoor equipment items that provide comfort but lack portability, such as beds or lounge chairs permanently installed at beaches and swimming pools. The use of such equipment is typically subject to a fee and is restricted to the specific area where it is installed, thereby failing to provide a portable or accessible solution for users wishing to enjoy similar comfort in other locations. Outdoor equipment beyond the furniture category includes portable solar systems and portable screens. Existing rollable solar sheets and portable screens are highly portable and storable; however, they are delicate and, when in use, are prone to localized creasing, folding, or deformation, which accelerates wear over time. When deployed, such equipment lacks sufficient structural stiffness to ensure stability, particularly under gusts of wind. Furthermore, they remain vulnerable to damage even when not in use due to sensitivity to localized stresses, thereby reducing their overall durability. It would be desirable to have a sleeping bag or tent comprising a reconfigurable stiffening system that provide absolute separation of the sleeping bag or tent from the underneath base on which they deployed.

[0009] Despite numerous improvements in outdoor equipment, existing solutions remain inadequate in their ability to integrate instant deployment, portability, storability, aesthetic simplicity, and high structural stability into a single device that is usable across multiple products. In particular, such solutions fail to provide an effective portable means for achieving complete, rigid, stable, and homogeneous isolation of deployed sleeping bags and tent floors from the underlying ground, as well as for enabling diverse functional configurations of such equipment. Accordingly, there exists a need for an improved system that combines portability and storability with a portable stiffening mechanism applicable across a wide range of outdoor equipment.

[0010] It is an object of the present invention to provide portable rollable beach furniture, such as beds and chairs, comprising a stiffening system that is based on a reconfigurable web.

[0011] It is an object of the present invention to provide a rollable and portable solar system and a rollable screen, each comprising a reconfigurable stiffening system configured to enhance structural stability while maintaining portability and storability. - 3 -

[0012] It is an additional object of the present invention to provide a portable rollable or foldable all-in-one multifunctional device configured to selectively function as at least two devices selected from the group of a beach bed, a beach chair, a lounge chair, a beach table, and a floating surface on water.

[0013] It is an additional object of the present invention to provide a reconfigurable stiffening system that will be imbedded, preferably unnoticed and imperceptible (except for the use for which it is intended), within a sleeping bag or a tent, and able to be rolled and unrolled with the sleeping bag or tent.

[0014] It is yet an additional object of the present invention to provide a reconfigurable stiffening system that will be of light weight.

[0015] It is yet an additional object of the present invention to provide a reconfigurable stiffness system that may be pulled out from a sleeping bag or tent and function independently.

[0016] Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description proceeds.

[0017] Summary of the Invention

[0018] The present disclosure relates to portable outdoor equipment for recreational and outdoor activities, particularly camping and beach activities. More particularly, the disclosure concerns outdoor equipment upgraded by the incorporation of a reconfigurable web-based stiffener (hereinafter referred to in brief as a "stiffening system"), which is a stiffening system based on a reconfigurable web configured to provide stiffening capability.

[0019] The disclosure broadly relates to sleeping bags and tents comprising a reconfigurable stiffening system that deploys together with them, preferably in a manner that is unseen and imperceptible (except for the intended use), thereby creating a rigid, level, and homogeneous surface, preferably a thin surface with a thickness of approximately 1 cm or less, that provides absolute separation of the user from the underlying ground. The stiffening system enables the user to benefit from a stable, leveled, and stiff elevated base surface for a sleeping bag, a stable, leveled, and stiff elevated tent floor, or even the elevation of an entire tent while maintaining its floor in a leveled, stiff, and stable condition, thereby significantly reducing, and potentially eliminating, discomfort caused by uneven terrain, ground moisture, water flows, mud, dirt, and the intrusion of insects. - 4 -

[0020] Portable equipment for use in outdoor activities such as camping and water activities therefore comprises a stiffening system made of one or more materials suitable to withstand outdoor conditions, said stiffening system comprising at least a rollable or foldable web which is capable of being leveled or fixatably reconfigured, wherein said web has regional stiffness with respect to orthogonal forces when said web is leveled or fixatably reconfigured, and is also capable of becoming stiffened or fixated in a predetermined configuration suitable for intended use of said equipment.

[0021] As referred to herein, the terms "fixated" and "secured" are interchangeable.

[0022] The stiffening system may further be applied to other outdoor products, including portable, rollable, or foldable beach furniture; rollable or foldable apparatus adapted to glide or float on water; rollable or foldable low-elevated surfaces configured, for example, as a base surface for a sleeping bag or tent, as a portable temporary storage surface for outdoor equipment, or as a portable mat for cleaning feet; portable screens; and rollable or foldable solar systems, particularly those incorporating photovoltaic cells.

[0023] In each application, the use of the stiffening system enables the creation of a portable device that integrates instant deployment, portability, storability, aesthetic simplicity, and high structural stability within a single product. In certain applications, the stiffening system further enables multifunctional use.

[0024] The internal forces within the stiffening system are transferred within the reconfigurable web, thereby obviating the need for a complex and bulky outer support structure. This, in turn, enables aesthetic simplicity of the final product.

[0025] As mentioned hereinabove, the disclosure broadly relates to the use of a portable and storable reconfigurable stiffening system configured to enhance the properties of sleeping bags and tents. When enjoying outdoor activities, the terrain on which a sleeping bag or tent is deployed may be rugged or inclined; rain may cause flooding; and insects or other creatures may crawl onto or into the sleeping bag or tent. To overcome, and optionally eliminate, these problems, the invention provides outdoor equipment incorporating a stiffening system that is rollable or foldable, preferably together with the sleeping bag or the tent. - 5 -

[0026] The reconfigurable stiffening system creates a comfortable and insulated surface, which may be stiff or flexible, separating the user from the terrain on which the sleeping bag or tent is deployed. It may further provide an elevated stiff or flexible surface acting as the bottom of the deployed sleeping bag or tent floor, and may enable diverse stiff or flexible configurations of the sleeping bag or tent floor. Such capabilities are particularly useful to (1) prevent insects and other ground-dwelling creatures from entering the equipment, (2) avoid flooding of the sleeping bag or tent floor by water or mud, and (3) enhance the overall user experience.

[0027] The stiffening system is primarily configured to be rolled or folded together with the sleeping bag or tent to maintain portability and storability. To further preserve and enhance the user experience, attachment means for securing the stiffening system to the sleeping bag or tent are also provided and are within the scope of the invention.

[0028] The stiffening system may comprise more than one reconfigurable web and additional components such as bars, rods and hinges.

[0029] During deployment, typically each sub-reconfigurable web of the stiffening system becomes a rigid planar surface, although other rigid configurations may also be formed.

[0030] The stiffening system may also constitute a stiff or resilient frame when deployed, wherein sub- reconfigurable webs of the stiffening system may constitute stiff or resilient strips or surfaces.

[0133] Figs. l(a)-(d) illustrate a sleeping bag SLB comprising a pocket SL1 configured to receive a multifunctional stiffening system MFS, which is a rollable or foldable reconfigurable web which became stiff or resilient in at least two configurations, thereby forming a multifunctional - 15 - sleeping bag system MSLB. The system MSLB is rollable or foldable in accordance with the rollable or foldable properties of stiffening system MFS. The stiffening system MFS forms a rigid or resilient layer that is substantially non-soft, thereby providing enhanced separation between the user and the underlying surface on which the sleeping bag is deployed, the improved isolation being a direct result of the formation of a non-soft insulating layer. As shown in Figs. 2(a)-(c), stiffening system MFS may be embedded within an envelope CV to form an enclosed multifunctional stiffening system EMC, as transparently illustrated in Fig. 2(c).

[0134] By embedding a stiffening system comprising accessories such as foldable legs and adjustable hinges within sleeping bag SLB, a multifunctional sleeping bag MFSP is created, which can be raised above the underlying surface on which it is deployed and is configured to become a bed or a lounge chair, as correspondingly illustrated in Figs. 3(a) and 4(a), as well as in additional embodiments detailed herein below.

[0135] As also detailed and explained herein below and illustrated in Figs. 3(b) and 4(b), the reconfigurable stiffening system may be completely embedded within sleeping bag SLB and rolled, unseen, together with the sleeping bag into the regular portable compact pack of a rolled sleeping bag.

[0136] It will be appreciated that a dedicated mattress may be inserted within the pocket SL1 of sleeping bag SLB shown in Fig. 1(a) in lieu of the multifunctional support system.

[0137] Figs. 5-6 illustrate the upper and lower faces of multifunctional stiffening system MFS, respectively. Multifunctional stiffening system MFS is a rollable web that comprises a plurality of interconnected coupling panels MS5 and a free end coupling panel MS6 interconnected to a coupling panel MS5 at a free end of the web. The angular displacement of one coupling panel to another is made possible by a hinge MS3 or MS9.

[0138] A coupling panel MS5 shown in Figs. 7(a)-(b) has a non-continuous web face, for example being configured with a rounded rectangular cross section. A plurality of spaced and aligned uninterrupted tubular knuckles MS15, each configured with a central receiving through hole MS14, is tangentially connected to a first side of coupling panel MS5. A protruding part MS13, e.g., of trapezoidal cross-section with a rounded edge, is interspersed throughout the first side such that the knuckle MS15 and the protruding parts MS13 are alternately disposed adjacent to - 16 - one another along the first side of the coupling panel. Tangentially connected to a second side of coupling panel MS5 are a plurality of spaced and aligned tubular knuckles each configured with a central recessed or removed portion MS4. A pin MS16 shown in Fig. 7(a) is inserted through the knuckles when interrupted knuckles of a first coupling panel MS5 are set in aligned relation with uninterrupted knuckles MS15 of a second coupling panel to facilitate angular displacement. A hinge MS9 imparts two adjacent coupling panels MS5 with unidirectionally stiff characteristics. Protruding part MS13 is adapted to be received within recessed or removed portion MS4 in such a way to restrict angular displacement when the web is leveled and rotated in a first rotational direction and to enable rotation in a second rotational direction opposite to the first direction when the web is leveled. Recessed or removed portion MS4 enables a limited angular displacement and accordingly establishes two leveled configurations.

[0139] Alternatively, a coupling panel MST10 shown in Figs. 8(a)-(b) may be used to restrict angular displacement. Coupling panel MST10 is identical to coupling panel MS5 including the interrupted and uninterrupted knuckles and the protruding parts, but is configured with two integral thickened lateral extensions MST11 and MST12 at one web face defining for example a rounded trapezoidal cross section that provides increased circumferential attachment of each knuckle to the coupling panel. The components of thickened coupling panel MST10 are identified by an additional identifier for purposes of clarity, such as knuckle MST15 in comparison to knuckle MS15 of coupling panel MS5.

[0140] Relatively unrestricted angular displacement is made possible when hinge MS3, that is similar to hinge MST3 in Fig. 10(b), is assembled from uninterrupted knuckles MST15 protruding from both sides of the coupling panel.

[0141] After two of more web sections are angularly displaced by hinges MS3 to define a desired angle, such as shown in Figs. 22(c)-(h), the angularly displaced web sections may be fixed in position by using coupling panels MST20 and MST21 shown in Figs. 10(a)-(b). Coupling panel MST20 is configured similarly as coupling panel MST10 of Fig. 8(a) but without the protruding parts MST13. In addition, coupling panel MST20 is configured with a longitudinally extending wall at one side that defines a U-shaped slot MST22. Coupling panel MST21, which is narrower than coupling panel MST20, is configured with a U-shaped slot MST23 and with a main web face that is wider than the width of U-shaped slot MST23. A limited portion of U-shaped slot MST23 is - 17 - adapted to be inserted within, and to be angularly displaced relative to, U-shaped slot MST22 of coupling panel MST20 to define a common locking chamber. When a restrictor MS2 is inserted in the locking chamber so as to be in restricting communication with U-shaped slots MST22 and MST23, such as at the longitudinal ends of the hinge, angular displacement of coupling panels MST20 and MST21 is restricted or altogether prevented. Restrictor MS2 has a dedicated shape that corresponds to the shape of the locking chamber that is defined when two adjacent web sections are angularly separated by a specific angle. Restrictor MS2 may be removed from the locking chamber and positioned in a non-restricting holder MSI (Fig. 6) when it is desired that the hinge MS3 be angularly displaced freely, or when other relative angle is required between two adjacent web sections, and another dedicated restrictor (not shown in the Figures) having an adapted angular shape is used.

[0142] Free end coupling panels MST6 are shown in Figs. 9(a)-(b) to be configured with interrupted knuckles to provide restricted angular displacement with an adjacent coupling panel MST10, only one being illustrated, and with two telescopic long foldable legs TLNL. Alternatively, short foldable legs TSHL may be operatively connected to a free end coupling panel MS6 as shown in Fig. 6. Foldable legs TSHL may be operatively connected to the underside of an intermediate hinged coupling panel MST20, for use in raising the bottom face of system MFS and also of sleeping bag system MSLB above the underneath surface on which multifunctional support system MFS or sleeping bag system MSLB is deployed. Accordingly, multifunctional support system MFS or sleeping bag system MSLB is able to be leveled when the underneath surface on which they are deployed is rugged or inclined. Short legs, for example having a length of 4 cm, may be permanently attached to the lower face of one or more intermediate hinged coupling panels MST20 and to free end coupling panels MST6, so as to ensure that, when the terrain is slightly rugged or uneven, the stiffening system MFS is spaced from the underlying terrain and accordingly is leveled.

[0143] A bottom face of one or both of multifunctional stiffening system MFS and sleeping bag SLB may be provided with padding material to absorb jagged edges of the underlying terrain. The padding material that is provided is of the type that is able to be rolled or folded together with multifunctional support system MFS or sleeping bag SLB. Additionally or alternatively, an upper face of one or both of multifunctional support system MFS and sleeping bag SLB may be provided with such padding material. The padding material may be individually affixed to each coupling panel, for example a rounded padding element PD1 shown in Fig. 11(a) or a flattened - 18 - padding element PD2 shown in Fig. 11(b). When the web is deployed, the presence of a padding element on each coupling panel MST10 provides continuous padding PD1 or PD2 on the corresponding face of the web.

[0144] Alternatively, a padding member may be affixed to an entire face of system MFS, or to a portion thereof, enabled by the close spacing of adjacent coupling panels provided by each thickened coupling panel MST10. Fig. 12 illustrates padding member PD3, which is formed of a plurality of padding elements PD1. Fig. 13 illustrates padding member PD4, which is formed of a plurality of padding elements PD2.

[0145] Figs. 14(a)-(f) illustrate a multifunctional support system MFSF that is configured as a frame. Multifunctional support system MFSF is identical to multifunctional support system MFS, with the exception that coupling panels MS5 of multifunctional support system MFS (Figs. 5-6) are replaced by shorter border coupling panels MS7 and by connecting means between hinges MS3 and free side coupling panels MS6 of multifunctional support system MFSF in order to create a frame. System MFSF can be embedded within envelope CVF as transparently illustrated in Fig. 14(c). A resilient and sufficiently strong sheet SH capable of supporting the weight of a human may be strongly attached directly to the upper face of system MFSF or to the upper face of system EMCF to produce a strengthened system CVS as shown in top view in Fig. 14(e) and in bottom view in Fig. 14(f). Multifunctional support system MFSF has the same leveled configurations as multifunctional support system MFS and can function, be connected, embedded and used identically as multifunctional support system MFS.

[0146] An elongated bar LCK comprising a plurality of stabilizing and rotatable bars MS37 that are axially interjoined along axis of rotation MS38 is insertable within aligned holes passing through all coupling panels MST10 of multifunctional support system MFS in order to be stabilized, as illustrated in Figs. 15-17. When each axis MS38 of a bar MS37 coincides with the axis of a coupling panel through which it passes, multifunctional support system MFS is not inhibited by the bar. However, when each axis MS38 of a bar MS37 does not coincide with the axis of a coupling panel through which it passes, angular displacement of a coupling panel is prevented by the presence of a bar that extends between two adjacent coupling panels and the MFS becomes locked, i.e. the web is unable to be angularly displaced.

[0147] Fig. 17(a) illustrates MFS while elongated bar LCK passes through its entire length. In this drawing, each axis MS38 of a bar MS37 is aligned with a corresponding axis of a coupling panel, - 19 - the bar length being selected to correspond to the dimensions of a coupling panel through which it passes.

[0148] When elongated bar LCK is slightly shifted such that an end of each bar is misaligned with the axis of a corresponding coupling panel, angular displacement of a coupling panel is prevented by the presence of a bar that extends between two adjacent coupling panels and MFS becomes locked. By displacing the opposite side of elongated bar LCK as shown in Fig. 17(b), the process is reversed and the axes MS38 of a bar MS37 become once again aligned with those of the corresponding coupling panels and multifunctional support system is able to be angularly displaced.

[0149] It will be appreciated that interjoined stabilizing bars may be used in conjunction with many other webs described herein when the coupling panels have been suitably modified.

[0150] Each bar, for which bar LCK is a single example, may be self-leveling or may be externally fixated, such as by human manipulation or by various means such as mechanical, electrical or chemical means. The bar, which may be foldable or locked, may have a circular cross section or a differently shaped cross section. This type of bar may be used as a replacement for a folding bed frame. The use of these bars advantageously enables framed outdoor equipment to be rolled in a similar fashion as fabric.

[0151] To assist sleepers to snuggled both within and with the sleeping bag while using system MSLB, despite the leveling function of multifunctional stiffening system MFS, the multifunctional stiffening system MFS may be loosely connected, for example at an intermediate region, to the sleeping bag SLB. Thus, multifunctional stiffening system MFS will provide rigidity while permitting the sleeper to shift positions together with sleeping bag SLB. Also, the multifunctional stiffening system MFS may comprise a plurality of multidirectional coupling panels, namely coupling panels that enable the stiffening system to be folded and unfolded or rolled and unrolled in more than one direction, or alternatively may be constructed of an unsegmented web that can also be folded and unfolded or rolled and unrolled in more than one direction, to facilitate a change in position. If so desired, a sleeping bag may be configured with a plurality of pockets. A smaller sized MFS may be inserted in at least one of these pockets. In one embodiment, the smaller-sized MFS may be a narrow strip that is placed side by side along the entire length of sleeping bag SLB. - 20 -

[0152] Various properties and configurations of segmented and unsegmented webs are described in US 2025 / 0187293, the content of which is incorporated herein by reference.

[0153] When the stiffening system is divided into separate subsequent pockets, e.g., subsequent pockets that are arranged along the length of the sleeping bag, dedicated hinges may be provided connecting the separated portions of the stiffening system, thereby enabling control of the angle between any two portions of the stiffening system when deployed in a leveled configuration.

[0154] Alternatively, as shown in Figs. 18(a)-(c), in order to maintain convenient use of the sleeping bag when deployed - namely, to enable the user to entirely freely snuggle with and within the sleeping bag when deployed - the attachment of system MFS1 to sleeping bag SLB may be achieved by an envelope ENSB2 attached to system MFS1 and comprising a pocket SL2 that is clearly shown in Fig. 18(a), in which sleeping bag SLB is received. Envelope ENSB2 may include a fastening element, such as a zipper ZP2 or a Velcro connection, to allow easy insertion and removal of sleeping bag SLB from pocket SL2 and to enable the user to easily enter or exit the sleeping bag.

[0155] Figs. 19(a)-(b) illustrate system TME which comprises envelope ENSB1, which may be covered by fabric such as a water resistant and warmth inducing fabric, and system MFS1. As shown in transparency in Fig. 19(a), system MFS1 is received within pocket ENP1 of envelope ENSB1. As shown in Fig.19(b), envelope ENSB1 may include a fastening element such as zipper ZP1 to allow easy insertion and removal of system MFS1 from pocket ENP1. System TME may preferably use instead system MFS1.

[0156] As shown in Fig. 20(a)-(b), envelope ENSB1 may be attached to envelope ENSB2 to form envelope ENSB3 which comprises both envelopes. Envelopes ENSB1, ENSB2 may be permanently attached or releasable. Envelopes ENSB1, ENSB2, and ENSB3 are also within the scope of the present invention.

[0157] Fig. 21(a)-(b) illustrate system NGSP which achieved as shown in transparency in Fig. 21(a) by inserting system MFS1 within pocket ENP1 and by inserting sleeping bag SLB within pocket SL2 of system ENSB3. System NGSP can be compactly rolled and unrolled or folded and unfolded in a similar way of a regular sleeping bag, wherein when deployed, Multifunctional system MFS1 enable to create a stiff or flexible convenient layer that separates the user from the underneath - 21 - surface on which the sleeping bag deployed while housing sleeping bag SLB within pocket SL2 with preferably unfixed connection, enabling the user to freely snuggle with and within the sleeping bag. Layer MT1 may comprise padding material to enhance the user convenience. System NGSB is also in the scope of this invention.

[0158] Figs. 22(a)-(l) transparently illustrates some usable leveled configurations of enclosed multifunctional system EMC or correspondingly of sleeping bag system MSLB. As shown in Figs. 22(a), system EMC or MSLB may function as a stiff or rigid surface which separates the user from the underneath ground on which the system is deployed. Figs. 22(b)-(f) illustrate the ability of system EMC or MSLB to function as an adjustable bed. Fig. 22 (g) illustrates the ability of system EMC or MSLB to function as a chair. Figs. 22(h)-(j) illustrate the ability of system EMC or MSLB to function as a table. Figs. 21(k)-(l) illustrate the ability of system EMC or MSLB to function as a hammock.

[0159] Multifunctional stiffening system MFS may include another adjustable device instead of hinge MS3 which enables to achieve diverse leveled configurations of multifunctional support system M FS and of sleeping bag system MSLB.

[0160] The stiffening system may enable one or more configurations of the sleeping bag.

[0161] Multifunctional support system MFS may include another adjustable device instead of hinge MS3 which enables to achieve a sealed multifunctional support system when using an envelope CV.

[0162] It will be appreciated that interjoined stabilizing bars may be employed in conjunction with various other reconfigurable webs, whether or not described herein, provided that the coupling panels of the interjoined stabilizing bars are suitably modified.

[0163] Elongated bar LCK may serve as the only means of locking the stiffening system, or part of it, in a predefined configuration which is not necessarily planar, provided that the coupling panels of the interjoined stabilizing bars are suitably modified.

[0164] Elongated bar LCK may be employed with the lateral narrow reconfigurable webs AAA illustrated in Fig. 13(a), functioning as frame rods of stiffening system MFSF. - 22 -

[0165] A rollable or foldable rod that employs the elongated bar LCK, or any other mechanical or electromechanical means configured to lock the rod in a predetermined configuration, not necessarily planar, is also within the scope of the invention.

[0166] Elongated bar LCK may serve as the sole locking means when alternative coupling panels are utilized, such as simple rectangular coupling panels and it is also in the scope of the invention.

[0167] Bar LCK may also be used to allow or prevent angular displacement of each lateral segment of system MFSF, in the manner described in detail hereinabove.

[0168] Multifunctional support system MFS or its components may be removed from the sleeping bag or inserted into the sleeping bag, being completely or partially located within the sleeping bag, such as being entirely or partially concealed within the sleeping bag.

[0169] Multifunctional stiffening system MFS may be divided to several simple stiffening or multifunctional stiffening systems. Multifunctional stiffening system MFS may have a wired or remotely controlled electromechanical device to facilitate one of many various leveled configurations or alternatively a plurality of identical leveled configurations of sleeping bag system MSLB.

[0170] Multifunctional stiffening system MFS may be separated from the sleeping bag or connected to the sleeping bag at a discrete number of points.

[0171] The following features are also applicable:

[0172] - A sleeping bag fabricated without multifunctional stiffening system MFS and having at least one pocket within which a multifunctional support system is insertable.

[0173] - A sleeping bag fabricated without a multifunctional stiffening system MFS having connecting means by which a multifunctional support system is connectable to the sleeping bag.

[0174] - A sleeping bag having other types of multifunctional stiffening systems which are made of at least one interconnected component.

[0175] Bar LCK may also be used to allow or prevent angular displacement of each lateral segment of system MFSF, in the manner described in detail hereinabove. - 23 -

[0176] The reconfigurable web of a multifunctional stiffening system may be any other web which facilitates proper functionality of the multifunctional stiffening system. Multifunctional stiffening systems having one or more leveled configurations are also suitable.

[0177] Multifunctional Tent comprising a Stiffening System

[0178] Figs. 23-25 illustrate system RTNT which is a tent comprising stiffening system MFS1. As shown in Fig. 23 system RTNT configured with a floor having at least one pocket PKT in which a stiffening system MFS1 is inserted. Stiffening system MFS1 forms a rigid or resilient layer that is substantially non-soft, thereby providing enhanced separation between the user and the underlying surface on which the sleeping bag is deployed, the improved isolation being a direct result of the formation of a non-soft insulating layer. Stiffening system MFS1 may be rolled and unrolled or folded and unfolded together with the tent in an unseen manner and packed in a regular cylindrical configuration as illustrated in Fig. 25

[0179] A stiffening system similar to system MFS, but designed to become stiff or resilient in diverse configurations, may also provide the entire or partial envelope of the tent and can be sealed within an exterior envelope. The stiffening system may be rolled and unrolled or folded and unfolded together with the tent, or separately, and may, optionally, be packed in a plurality of separate packages in this case.

[0180] Stiffening system MFS1 may be the stiffening system MFS described in detail hereinabove, a sub-web of stiffening system MFS, or any other stiffening system found adequate and suitable to the needs, and may include pullable, foldable, attachable, or detachable legs, which may be extendable legs such as telescopic legs. As illustrated in Fig. 24, the legs of stiffening system MFS1 may be used to raise the tent floor or the entire tent above the underlying surface on which the tent is placed, so that the tent floor will remain leveled, stiff, resilient, and convenient to use when the underlying surface is rugged, muddy, wet, subject to water flow, or inclined.

[0181] By using system MFS as stiffening system MFS1, the tent floor may be set to various leveled configurations, such as those illustrated in Figs. 22(a)— 22(f). System RTNT may comprise a wired or remotely controlled electromechanical system configured to achieve the different configurations of the tent or of the tent floor. - 24 -

[0182] In large tents, the stiffening system of the tent floor, of a portion of the tent envelope, or of the entire tent may be composed of a plurality of parts that remain completely separate, or of parts that are connectable.

[0183] Stiffening system MFS1 or its components may be removed from or added to the tent and use independently.

[0184] Stiffening system MFS1 may be separated from or connected to the tent at a discrete number of points.

[0185] A tent having at least one pocket that lacks the stiffening system, but enables insertion of the stiffening system or other connecting means adapted to connect the multifunctional system to the tent, is also within the scope of the present invention.

[0186] Stiffening system MFS1 may be based on system MFSF, described in detail hereinabove and shown in Fig. 14(a), and may constitute a leveled, stiff, or resilient tent floor, a part of, or even the entire tent structure, similar to system CVS shown in Fig. 14(f) and also described in detail hereinabove.

[0187] In order to reduce the volume of the tent when rolled or folded, the tent floor may be divided into two or more independent parts that are either not connected to each other, temporarily connected, or permanently connected (for example, by a fabric sheet) in a manner that allows their relative displacement. Accordingly, during folding, the floor surfaces may be stacked one above the other or side by side, thereby enabling the rolling or folding of the tent into reduced dimensions.

[0188] In another embodiment, in order to reduce the volume of the tent during folding or rolling, the stiffening system, or a portion thereof, may be separated from the tent, after which the tent is folded or rolled.

[0189] In another embodiment, the stiffening system, or a portion thereof, may be separated from the tent and used separately for various predetermined applications, such as a bed, a bench, partition walls, a chair or set of chairs, lounge chairs, a chair and a table, a self-leveling subsurface placed on the ground on which a person may sit or lie, or a stiff or resilient surface placed on car seats for use as a bed, all of which are within the scope of the present invention. - 25 -

[0190] Multifunctional Beach Bed comprising a Stiffening System

[0191] Fig. 26 illustrate system BBED, which is a rollable or foldable beach device comprising stiffening system MFS shown in Figs. 5-6 and described in detail hereinabove. System BBED designed to withstand loads resulting from the static weight of the user as well as dynamic loads caused when the user abruptly applies body weight to the bed, as is customary on sea beaches. The stiffening system is preferably housed within a resilient envelope SBEN that protects it from environmental conditions such as sand, water, and mud, as well as from solar heat, rain, and humidity, which may otherwise damage the system. Similar to the use of stiffening system MFS in sleeping bags, when the bed is deployed, the stiffening system enables the bed to assume at least one of a plurality of configurations: a surface separating the user from the ground, a bed, a chair, a lounge chair, a table, or even a surface configured to float or glide on water. Envelope SBEN of system BBED may optionally be provided with a colorful texture, such as those commonly used in beach equipment (e.g., surfboards), although alternative textures may also be employed. Improved user comfort may be achieved by employing a padded stiffening system such as illustrated in Figs. 11-13 and explained in detail hereinabove, or by providing an external padded envelope SBEN. Alternatively, additional layers may be employed, such as a regular pad, a regular mat, or a floating mat, provided they do not prevent system BBED from being rolled or unrolled. Envelope SBEN of system BBED may be formed from materials resistant to sand and sealed against water ingress. When unused, system BBED can be folded or packed into a cylindrical configuration PBED, and is recommended to be carried on the shoulder by a suitable strap.

[0192] Portable Beach and Outdoor Chair comprising a Stiffening System

[0193] Fig. 1 illustrate system PCHA, which is a portable, rollable or foldable chair comprising stiffening system PCMFS similar to system MFS shown in Figs. 5-6 and described in detail hereinabove. System PCHA is designed to withstand loads resulting from the static weight of the user as well as dynamic loads caused when the user abruptly applies body weight to the chair, as is customary in outdoor equipment. Stiffening system PCMFS is preferably received within a flexible envelope PCEN that protects it from environmental conditions such as sand, water, and mud, as well as from solar heat, rain, and humidity, which may otherwise damage the system. Similar to the use of stiffening system MFS in sleeping bags, when the chair is deployed, the stiffening system enables the chair to assume at least one of a plurality of configurations: a surface separating the user from the ground, a relatively shirt horizontal surface, a chair, a lounge chair, a table, or even a surface configured to float - 26 - or glide on water. Envelope PCEN of system PCHA may optionally be provided with a colorful texture, such as those commonly used in beach equipment (e.g., surfboards), although alternative textures may also be employed. Improved user comfort may be achieved by employing a padded stiffening system such as illustrated in Figs.11-13 and described in details hereinabove, or by providing an external padded envelope CHEN. Alternatively, additional layers may be employed, such as a regular pad, a regular mat, or a floating mat, provided they do not prevent system BBED from being rolled or unrolled. Envelope PCEN of system PCHA may be formed from materials resistant to sand and sealed against water ingress. When unused, system PCHA can be folded or packed into a cylindrical configuration PCHR, and is recommended to be carried on the shoulder by a suitable strap.

[0194] System PCHA is based on principles identical to those of system BBED, but its dimensions are smaller, and its stiffening system is generally simpler, namely comprising a smaller number of sub-webs and other auxiliary means such as hinges connecting the webs and detachable legs. Additional similar systems may exist with an unlimited number of configurations, all of which are within the scope of the present invention.

[0195] Portable Screens comprising a Stiffening System

[0196] Fig. 28 illustrates a portable screen (e.g., portable display screen or projection screen) PSC comprising a flexible screen SCR (e.g., flexible display screen or flexible projection screen) configured to enable portability. Flexible screen SCR is affixed to a face of flexible envelope PSEN of a rollable or foldable stiffening system SCMFS. Upon deployment, stiffening system SCMFS which may be a simple stiffening system provides a rigid or resilient surface or frame, preferably planar, when leveled or selectively secured, configured to support and stabilize flexible screen against displacements that may otherwise cause visual disturbance to the viewer, such as by winds. System PTV preferably comprises supporting legs PSLG that are pullable, foldable, or assembled, or any other support system, configured to hold system PSC at a selectable inclination and preferably comprise anchoring means for securing system PTV to the ground. Stiffening system SCMFS may further comprise inner electromechanical hinges configured to enable wired or remote control of the curvature of the display.

[0197] In another embodiment, system PSC may comprise any other suitable inner or outer electromechanical control mechanism, configured for wired or remote adjustment of the curvature or the shape of the screen PSC. - 27 -

[0198] When stiffening system SCMFS is non-continuous, stiffening system SCMFS may be freely positioned within a pocket PSPK of a flexible envelope PSEN (not shown in the figure), wherein the longitudinal dimension of pocket PSEN (namely, the dimension in the rolling or folding direction of the stiffening system) is preferably greater than the corresponding dimension of stiffening system SCMFS, so as to enable free expansion and retraction of stiffening system SCMFS while system PSC is rolled or unrolled, without transferring tension or compression forces to envelope PSEN. An exterior face of envelope PSEN is affixed with the flexible display screen SCR, such that, during deployment and rolling of system PSC, stiffening system SCMFS is not physically attached to the flexible display screen SCR and, accordingly, shear forces are not transferred between the flexible display screen SCR and stiffening system SCMFS. This prevents excessive axial pressure or tension within the flexible display screen and thereby prevents damage.

[0199] Systems PSC preferably include an external envelope sealed to water while still allowing proper use of the screen, thereby preventing damage caused by environmental phenomena such as rain or humidity.

[0200] System PSC preferably includes an additional external sealed envelope that does not prevent system PSC from being rolled and unrolled, or folded and unfolded, while still allowing proper use of the screen. The envelope is configured to protect the system from environmental phenomena such as rain, humidity, sand, dust, or solar heat, as well as from mechanical impacts or wear associated with transportation of the system from place to place, thereby preventing damage and enhancing durability.

[0201] Screen SCR may be a projection screen, an LCD screen, or any other type of screen, wherein the electronic system that generates or transmits signals to the screen, or a portion thereof, may be embedded within components of system PSC or disposed externally to system PSC.

[0202] The screen may further include various input and output connectors, such as USB, HDMI, Ethernet, and RF connectors, as well as remote transmission means such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

[0203] When unused, system PSC can be folded or packed into a cylindrical configuration PCHR, and is recommended to be carried on the shoulder by a suitable strap.

[0204] Portable Solar System (e.g., photovoltaic) comprising a Stiffening System - 28 -

[0205] Figs. 29(a)-(b) illustrate two embodiments of portable solar system PSP, both comprising a flexible solar sheet (e.g., photovoltaic flexible sheet) FSS of small or medium d dimensions (e.g., 50x80 cm) configured to enable portability. Flexible solar sheet FSS is affixed to a face of flexible envelope SPEN of rollable or foldable stiffening system PSSMFS (not shown in the figure), which may be a simple stiffening system or multifunctional stiffening system similar to system MFS, such that deployment of system PSP provides a rigid or flexible solar panel which may be sufficiently stable under successive strong winds. System PSP preferably comprises supporting bars that are pullable, foldable, or assembled, or any other support system, configured to hold system PSP at a selectable inclination and preferably comprise anchoring means for securing system PSP to the ground. Stiffening system PSSMFS may further comprise inner electromechanical hinges configured for wired or remote control of the curvature of the solar panel.

[0206] When stiffening system PSSMFS is non-continuous, stiffening system PSSMFS may be freely positioned within a pocket PPEM (not shown in the figure) of a flexible envelope SPEN, wherein the longitudinal dimension of pocket PPEM (namely, the dimension in the rolling or folding direction of the stiffening system) is preferably greater than the corresponding dimension of stiffening system PSSMFS, so as to enable free expansion and retraction of stiffening system PSSMFS while system PSP is rolled or unrolled, without transferring tension or compression forces to envelope SPEN. An exterior face of envelope SPEN is affixed with the flexible solar panel PSS, such that, during deployment and rolling of system PSP, stiffening system PSSMFS is not physically attached to the flexible solar panel PSS and, accordingly, shear forces are not transferred between the flexible solar panel PSS and stiffening system PSSMFS. This prevents excessive axial pressure or tension within the solar panel and thereby prevents damage.

[0207] System PSP may comprise any other suitable inner or outer, electromechanical control mechanism, configured for wired or remote adjustment of the curvature or the shape of the solar panel.

[0208] System PSP may further comprise an outer or inner automatic control system configured to automatically adjust its inclination or curvature or shape, to optimize utilization of solar energy.

[0209] Fig. 29A(a) illustrates a raised solar system with a fully automatic self-control mechanism that can be operated by an on / off switch SWH located on the body of the portable solar unit. By switching to the ON position, internal motors controlling the relative movement of the panels forming the stiffening - 29 - system (in the case of a segmented stiffening system) adjust the relative displacement of the panels based on information received from the panels regarding the position and intensity of the sun rays.

[0210] Fig. 29A(b) illustrates a system in which the activation of the automatic adjustment mechanism is carried out through a wired connection between exterior control panel A and the portable solar panel UPS, and based on this bi-directional connection signals are transmitted to motors of system UPS that control the relative displacement of the stiffening system AAA. Control panel A receives feedback from the solar panel regarding the position and intensity of the sun rays and sends back to the solar panel instructions regarding the required updated orientation. This control and monitoring operation continues as long as no instruction to stop it is given to the control system.

[0211] Fig. 29A(c) illustrates a wireless control system operating similarly to the system of Fig. 29A(b), except that the transmission between the control system and the motors responsible for the relative orientation of the panels of the stiffening system is carried out wirelessly.

[0212] Fig 29B schematically illustrates a more general description of system PSP. The more general schematic description is provided of an automatic motion control system for a portable solar panel PSP. The system comprises: a control and processing module CAPU; a first motor module MOTA; a second motor module MOTB; a solar panel input / output module SPIO; a sensor module SNS; and a feedback module FDK.

[0213] The control and processing module CAPU receives signals from the feedback module FDK, calculates the required corrections, and transmits control commands to the first and second motor modules MOTA and MOTB. The first motor module MOTA is configured to control the overall spatial orientation of the solar panel PSP, while the second motor module MOTB comprises a plurality of actuators configured to control the local curvature of the solar panel at selected points.

[0214] The combined action of the first and second motor modules accepted by module SPIO and modifies both the spatial tilt and the curvature of the solar panel and real time information is transferred to the sensors of module SNS thereby allowing the sensors to detect the position of the sun and the intensity of solar radiation. The sensor module transmits this information to the feedback module FDK, which generates a corresponding correction signal and transmits it back to the control and processing module CAPU. Based on this signal, the control and processing module CAPU calculates the updated target orientation and curvature of the solar panel and transmits the updated - 30 - commands to the motor modules MOTA and MOTB. This process will continue uninterruptedly until the system is shut down.

[0215] Flexible solar panel PSS may be replaced by any other solar energy collector, or by rigid solar collectors that can be embedded within system PSS instead of, or in addition to, flexible solar panel PSS.

[0216] The electronic system that absorbs or extracts solar energy may be embedded within components of system PSP or disposed externally to system PSP.

[0217] System PSP may further include various input and output connectors, such as USB-C, MC4, AC Outlets, DC input and any other desirable connection.

[0218] When unused, system PSP can be folded or packed into a cylindrical configuration PPSP, and is recommended to be carried on the shoulder by a suitable strap.

[0219] Portable Platform for use as an underlying Portable Surface for Tents, Sleeping Bags and Additional Outdoor Equipment

[0220] Figs. 30(a)-(c) illustrate a system PUS comprised portable rollable or portable stiffening system PUSS (not shown in the figures) which may be a simple stiffening system. Stiffening system PUSS is preferably imbedded within a pocket PUENP (not shown in the figure) of flexible envelope PUEN. As shown in Fig. 30(a) system PUS when deployed provides a rigid or resilient surface FSR that is substantially non-soft, thereby providing enhanced separation between a tent and the underlying surface on which a tent is deployed (Figs 30(a)-(b) Illustrate an isolated tent; however, without limiting the scope of the invention, it may equally represent a sleeping bag instead of the tent). It is applicable to add four short legs (about 4 cm in height) permanently attached, which do not prevent system PUP from being rolled and unrolled, or folded and unfolded, so that after deployment a leveled system is obtained even if the underlying surface is rugged and not straight to a moderate extent. By using the four legs SLP, preferably of about 15 cm in length, of the stiffening system, an elevated, leveled, stiff or resilient surface is obtained, providing complete isolation between the tent and the ground on which it is deployed, even in particularly difficult terrains, including granular and sloped ground, due to the possibility that legs SLP are adjustable legs whose length can be varied, such as telescopic legs. The resulting elevated platform protects the tent or sleeping bag, maintains - 31 - cleanliness, and enables staying in the field even under harsh conditions of muddy ground, surface water flow, and the intrusion of insects.

[0221] The longitudinal dimension of pocket PUENP (namely, the dimension in the rolling or folding direction of the stiffening system) is preferably greater than the corresponding dimension of stiffening system PUSS, so as to enable free expansion and retraction of stiffening system PUSS while system PUS is rolled or unrolled, without transferring tension forces to envelope PUEN, accordingly a smooth, requiring no effort, process of rolling or folding of system PUS IS achieved. System PUS may comprise anchoring means for stabilizing and securing the system to the base surface on which it is deployed, preferably securing means adapted to the ground.

[0222] In comparison with parallel platforms of the prior art, which usually employ rod frames and strong tensioned sheets, the deployment of system PUS is immediate, requiring no assembly, and takes only a few seconds. The resulting surface is homogeneous, rigid (relative to prior art systems), and significantly stronger, unless constructed by placing a plate on a frame, which prior art solution requires long implementation time, involves considerable effort, and provides very low portability.

[0223] System PUS is adapted to withstand relatively high loads corresponding to the static and dynamic weight of the users of the sleeping bag and the tent and rarely also according to the weight of a tent. Such weight is typically estimated in the range of 50-200 kg, but is not necessarily limited thereto. System TTT replaces existing solutions such bulky and cumbersome structures that are assembled in the field and require long setup times, or portable foldable devices which, after deployment, provide a stretched sheet-like surface on which a mattress or a sleeping bag can be placed. As can be appreciated, the existing solutions are cumbersome or inconvenient to use due to long assembly times or their non-homogeneous nature.

[0224] As shown in Fig. 31, a platform PUS1, which is similar to system PUS but with different dimensions, configurations and design of surface FSR and legs SLP, may serve as a storage place for various equipment in the field, from small personal platforms that located near the individual user for his small personal accessories such books and personal computer to large platforms that can serve as a field storage device for multiple users for equipment such as blankets, towels, bags, books, clothing, computers, food, tableware, and the like. A permanent or temporary sheet SPUS may be added, attached to face UFPUS of system PUS, for example by a Velcro connection, so that it can be cleaned or replaced when necessary. - 32 -

[0225] By assembling one platform PUS or PUS1 on top of another, not necessarily having the same dimensions, using connection means such as holes in the plate of the lower platform in which the ends of the legs of the upper platform are anchored, field cabinets of various heights and designs may be constructed.

[0226] When sheet SPUS is a mat, rug, or mattress (preferably thin), a portable mat, rug, or mattress device is obtained that is attached to, yet isolated from, the ground, and which may also be elevated above the ground by means of the platform's legs. The connection of the mat, rug, or mattress to upper face UFPUS may be detachable, for example by a Velcro connection, so that it can be cleaned or replaced when necessary. A mat, rug, or mattress, or a matching set of mats, rugs, or mattresses adapted thereto and constituting an integral part of the application, are also within the scope of the invention.

[0227] Platform PUS may be designed with various deployment configurations of spatial bodies such that, by folding the edges of the platform, a container is obtained that can be used for storing equipment in the field. Fig. 32 illustrates a portable container PUS2, which is system PUS having surface UFPUS designed in a deployment configuration of an open box, and by raising the edges EDPUS of the platform, an elevated container in the form of a box is obtained. When legs SLP are not used, a container is obtained that rests directly on the ground surface.

[0228] Surface UFPUS of system PUS may be designed in a deployment configuration of a closed spatial body, thereby obtaining closed containers or containers with a lid that can be opened and closed. In the case of device PUS2, a box with an upper lid is obtained.

[0229] A modular construction is provided for creating a system of containers that can be interconnected to form a multi-cell container. Alternatively, surface FSR may be provided in partial deployment configurations of a spatial bodies, to create a group of platforms that combinations thereof create a container having an arbitrarily large base area, for example: (i) a base area of a box with a single side wall, or (ii) a base area of a box with two adjacent side walls. After folding the walls to an upright orientation, three platform types are obtained: platform PUS comprising only a base surface; platform PUSA that is platform PUS comprising a base and one side wall; and platform PUSB that is platform PUS comprising a base and two adjacent side walls. By providing the platforms with interconnection means, or alternatively by using external coupling means, various combinations of - 33 - the three platform types may be assembled to obtain a container having an arbitrarily large base area. The interconnection between platforms may be configured to be fluid-tight so as to obtain a liquid-tight container. Alternatively, a fluid-tight container may be obtained by lining at least a portion of the interior with a liquid-impermeable sheet.

[0230] As illustrated in Fig. 33, by employing a suitable mat or sheet CPUS, to the upper face UFPUS of system PUS, preferably small platform PUS, the platform may further be configured as a portable mat PUS3 for cleaning feet and shoe soles before entering a sleeping bag or tent, and is also adapted for use under the most difficult field conditions when legs SLP are used. The connection of the mat to the upper plate may be detachable, for example by a Velcro connection, so that it can be easily cleaned or replaced when necessary. A mat, or a matching set of mats adapted thereto and constituting an integral part of the application, is also within the scope of the present invention.

[0231] Sunshade comprising a Stiffening System

[0232] Figs. 34(a)-(h)illustrate various models of sunshades comprising a stiffening system. Preferably, the stiffening system is enclosed within an envelope that protects it from water, sand, and similar environmental factors. Constructing sunshades with an integrated stiffening system enables rapid deployment of both personal sunshades and group sunshades, in multiple immediate configurations. It is further recommended that the sunshade comprise ground anchoring means or additional accessories to ensure its stability.

[0233] The surface in each of Figs. 34(a)-(h) comprises a stiffening system, preferably enclosed within an envelope as explained hereinabove. The envelope serves to protect the stiffening system and to enhance the durability and reliability of the sunshade during repeated deployment and outdoor use. Each sunshade may be packed in a cylindrical configuration, or alternatively folded, according to the capability of the stiffening system to be rolled and unrolled or folded and unfolded.

[0234] The legs of each sunshade in Figs. 34(d) and 34(f)-(h) may be pullable, foldable, or assembled, and may comprise regular legs, telescopic legs, or any other type of legs configured for use, and may be packed separately.

[0235] Figs. 34(a)-(c) illustrate sunshades SNSHl,SNSH2,and SNSH3, respectively, constructed from surface SFN1, which, upon deployment, assumes a curved leveled configuration. In Fig. 34(a), after deployment, surface SFN1 is fixed in place by means of two pins PN on one side, and similarly by - 34 - corresponding pins on the opposite side. In Fig. 34(b), after deployment, two corners of surface SFN1 are connected by a rope WR in order to maintain the leveled configuration. In Fig. 34(c), after deployment, an arcuate bar LTK1, as broadly explained hereinabove, is used in order to maintain the leveled configuration of surface SFN1. The sunshade may be dimensioned in a compact form for personal use, for example when a single user is lying beneath it, or alternatively in larger dimensions suitable for use by multiple users.

[0236] Fig. 34(d) illustrates a sunshade SNSH4 constructed from horizontal or differently oriented surface SFN2, which deploys into a planar leveled configuration and is supported by four legs LSI. Owing to its inherent structural stiffness, the sunshade generally does not require anchoring. The sunshade may be dimensioned for use by a single user or alternatively for accommodating multiple users.

[0237] The surface of the sunshades adapted to block sunlight, which is sufficiently stiff so as not to flap in the wind, is designed to withstand its own weight exclusively, but not the weight of apparatus loaded thereupon. Large dimensioned sunshades SNSH4-8, for example sized on the order of meters, are shown to be supported by oblique legs, in order to maintain stability when subjected to cross winds. The provision of the oblique legs also facilitates the addition of a substantially vertical or differently oriented stiffened surface at the side of the sunshade, and in contact with a pair of legs, depending on the current sun location.

[0238] Fig. 34(e) illustrates a sunshade SNSH5 constructed from a surface SFN3 mounted adjacent to the roof of tent TNT and anchored to the ground by four ropes stretched from the four corners of surface SGN3.

[0239] Fig. 34(f) illustrates a sunshade SNSH6 constructed from a surface SFN4. When deployed, surface SFN4 mounted above tent TNT and supported by one face of surface SFN4 and two legs LS2. Owing to its inherent structural stiffness, the sunshade generally does not require anchoring.

[0240] Fig. 34(g) illustrates a sunshade SNSH7 constructed from a surface SFN5. When deployed, surface SFN5 supported by one face of surface SFN5 and two legs LS3. Owing to its inherent structural stiffness, the sunshade generally does not require anchoring. - 35 -

[0241] Fig. 34(h) illustrates a sunshade SNSH8 comprising a surface SFN6 attached to the headrest of beach bed BBED, described in detail hereinabove. The sunshade is rolled together with the bed into a compact cylindrical configuration.

[0243] In all of the sunshades, accessories may be provided that are packed separately from the surface comprising the stiffening system.

[0244] A modular sunshade system may be created, for example sunshade SNSH1 connected sequentially one after another, or connected at any other angle by applying appropriate structural modifications, all of which fall within the scope of the invention.

[0245] All of the sunshades may be provided with additional flexible sheets, preferably fibers, in order to enlarge the shaded area. The additional flexible sheets may be rolled and unrolled or folded and unfolded together with the sunshade.

[0246] Tent Frame comprising a Stiffening System

[0247] Figs. 35 and 36 illustrate two tents, respectively, constructed from peripheral surfaces comprising a stiffening system. Preferably, the stiffening system is enclosed within an envelope that protects it from water, sand, and similar environmental factors. In both cases, the tents are rollable or foldable and include sheets, preferably sealed fibers, for covering the openings, said sheets being rolled together with the tent.

[0248] Fig. 35 illustrates a tent TNT1 constructed from surface TTEN1, which deploys into a curved leveled configuration and may be fixed in place as described with respect to sunshades SNSH1, SNSH2, and SNSH3. Surface TTEN1 further comprises two openings WD1 serving as windows. The open sides of the semi-cylindrical configuration thus obtained are covered by flexible sheets, preferably fibers, which can be rolled together with surface TTEN2.

Surface TTEN2 further comprises an opening WD2 serving as a window. The open sides of - 36 - the prism configuration thus obtained are covered by sheets, preferably sealed fibers, which can be rolled and unrolled or folded and unfolded together with surface TTEN2.

[0250] There exist innumerable structures and designs of tents that make use of a stiffening system, all of which fall within the scope of the invention.

[0251] In all of the tents, accessories may be provided that are packed separately from the surface comprising the stiffening system.
