[0002] Maintaining good oral hygiene can be difficult as it requires more than just the semiannual visit to the dentist for a professional teeth cleaning. Proper daily personal care must be carried out to reduce the risk of dental caries (cavities), gingivitis (gum disease), halitosis (bad breath) and other oral diseases. Poor oral health has also been shown to increase the risk of or contribute to the complications of systemic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pneumonia, and pregnancy. Research is currently being done to investigate other possible links of gum disease to Alzheimer's Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

[0005] In some aspects, the present technology provides an attachable headpiece for a flosser device, comprising: a headpiece body; a first arm and a second arm disposed on opposite ends of the headpiece body and extending away from the headpiece body, the first arm and the second arm extending in parallel in a same direction, each of the first arm and the second arm having an inner face and an outer face; a floss filament extending between the inner face of first arm and the inner face of second arm; and two embrasure contacting interfaces each extending from the inner face of one of the first arm or the second arm along the floss filament up to a first position, each embrasure contacting interface configured to support the floss filament configured to be pushed into a dental embrasure in response to a lateral movement of the attachable headpiece while the floss filament is disposed within the dental embrasure between two adjacent teeth, wherein each embrasure contacting interface comprises: a substrate core within each embrasure contacting interface and spanning through a respective arm to the outer face of the respective arm, an overmold disposed around the substrate core anddefining cross-sections of each embrasure contacting interface, the cross-sections having a geometry corresponding to a profile of the dental embrasure and being tapered in size away from the respective arm, and a plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions around the overmold and located at different lateral positions along each embrasure contacting interface, each embrasure contacting protrusion proportionally enlarging a cross-section defined by the overmold at a corresponding lateral position.

[0022] The present technology is generally directed to oral hygiene devices having components particularly configured for cleaning embrasures during flossing. An oral hygiene device may include a floss filament with embrasure brushes on either end, with the embrasure brushes being configured to slide into and out of an embrasure as the floss filament is moved back and forth within an embrasure. In particular, an embrasure brush may have a tapered shape with the floss filament exiting at a tip thereof, and the cross-section of the embrasure brush may be substantially concave quadrilateral shape (e.g., similar to an arrowhead) that mimics the shape of the embrasure. Ribbings may surround or skirt around an embrasure brush and may act as bristles to dislodge debris from an embrasure. Also described herein are scrapers included in oral hygiene device that may be used, for example, to scrape a tongue.

[0024] The present technology is directed to oral hygiene systems. In some embodiments, illustrative devices may include a handheld oral hygiene system that includes a flosser headpiece and a reusable or disposable, manual (non-vibrating) or electric (vibrating) or otherwise powered, handles. In some embodiments, the various headpieces may be disposable, and in various embodiments, an oral care device and / or components thereof may be scaled for various uses, including adult applications or pediatric applications. The flosser headpiece includes a length of floss filament that a user may position and manipulate (via the handle) around their tooth to perform flossing. In various embodiments, the flossing provided by the floss filament included in the headpiece is enhanced based on vibration of the handle, which causes vibrations in the floss filament while the floss filament is scraped against and between the teeth.

[0029] Fig. 1 illustrates an example oral care device 100. In some embodiments, the oral care device 100 comprises a headpiece 102 and a handle or handle portion 104. For example, the headpiece 102 may include a supporting portion, headpiece body, or base portion 106 with arms 108 extending from the base portion 106. In some embodiments, the arms 108 are part of the base portion 106. In other embodiments, the arms 108 are separate elements from the base portion 106. The arm contacting surface itself may constitute a cross section of the polyhedron. In some embodiments, the embrasure brushes 110 have another base surface such as a truncated surface opposite of the arm contacting surface. In some embodiments, the embrasure brush 110 may have a substantially pyramidic shape, a truncated pyramid, or taper having a base surface (e.g., the arm contacting surface) on one end and tip on the other. Additionally or alternatively, the pyramidic shape or taper may be isometric or asymmetrical. A degree of tapering, measured, for example, by a slope angle of the pyramidic shape, may range from 5 and 45 degrees, 10 to 40 degrees, 15 to 35 degrees, 20 to 30 degrees, 10 to 20 degrees, 5 to 10 degrees, or any subranges or values therebetween.

In some embodiments, the filament 112 may be anchored on either end (e.g., filament end) by the cleaning features (e.g., embrasure brushes 110). The attachable headpiece of any one or more of claims 1 to 3, wherein the lateral dimension of each of the two embrasure contacting interfaces is approximately one-third of a lateral dimension of the floss filament spanning from the inner face of the first arm to the inner face of the second arm.

The attachable headpiece of any one or more of claims 1 to 4, wherein the substrate core within each of the two embrasure contacting interfaces is connected to a first flat base across an area on the outer face of the respective arm and a second flat base across an area on the inner face of the respective arm that is separate from each embrasure contacting interface.

6. The attachable headpiece of claim 5, wherein the second flat base comprises a triangular geometry that extends into a concave edge of the cross-sections of each embrasure contacting interface at the inner face of the respective ann.

7. The attachable headpiece of claim 5, wherein the first flat base is exposed through an overmold layer encasing the respective arm.

8. The attachable headpiece of any one or more of claims 1 to 7, wherein the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions are uniformly spaced along a lateral direction.

An oral care device comprising:26.a handle comprising a gripping portion and a neckpiece; and27.a headpiece removably coupled to the neckpiece, the headpiece comprising:28.a first arm and a second arm disposed on opposite ends of a headpiece body and extending parallel to one another from the headpiece body in a same direction, each of the first arm and the second arm including an inner face and an outer face;29.a floss filament extending between the inner face of the first arm and the inner face of the second arm along a lateral axis perpendicular to the first arm and the second arm, the lateral axis being located inset from a tip of the first arm and a tip of the second arm; and30.extending from each of the first arm and the second arm, an embrasure contacting interface extending medially from the inner face of a respective arm and having cross-sections centered about the lateral axis and tapered in size away from the inner face, wherein the cross-section has a concave quadrilateral geometry corresponding to a profile of a dental embrasure, and wherein the embrasure contacting interface comprises:31.a substrate core comprising a flat base across the outer face of the respective arm and a first projection that extends from the flat base through the respective arm along the lateral axis up to a first lateral distance past the inner face of the respective arm, the substrate core being of a first material with a first rigidity; an overmold disposed around the first projection of the substrate core and defining the cross-section of the embrasure contacting interface, the ovcrmold being of a second material with a second rigidity less than the first rigidity; and a plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions each surrounding the overmold and located at different lateral positions and scaling up the cross-section of the embrasure contacting interface at each corresponding lateral position.

18. The oral care device of claim 17, wherein the first material with the first rigidity is a plastic, and the second material with the second rigidity is a rubber, and wherein the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions is comprised of the second material.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 17 to 18 wherein a sum of a first lateral dimension of the embrasure contacting interface on the first arm and a second lateral dimension of the embrasure contacting interface on the second arm is less than a total lateral dimension of the headpiece body between the inner face of the first arm and the inner face of the second arm.

20. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 17 to 19 wherein the first lateral dimension of the embrasure contacting interface is approximately one- third of a lateral dimension of the floss filament spanning from the inner face of the first arm to the inner face of the second arm.

36. The assembly of claim 35, wherein the core structure further comprises: a second base interfacing with a second contact area across the inner face of the respective arm, the second contact area being separate from the member.

37. The assembly of claim 36, wherein the second base has a triangular geometry that extends into a concavity of an embrasure-shaped profile defined around the common axis.

58. The headpiece of any one or more of claims 43 to 57, wherein the floss filament comprises an exposed portion between the two rounded tips of the two transitioning bodies and an unexposed portion between each respective inner face and the respective rounded tips.

59. The headpiece of any one or more of claims 43 to 58, wherein the substrate core comprises a flat base across the outer face of the respective arm and a first projection that extends from the flat base through the respective ami along the medial axis and terminating at the first distance past the inner face.

60. The headpiece of claim 59, wherein the outer face of each of the first arm and the second arm is encased in a rubber layer that is less than or equal to a height of the flat base of the core of the embrasure contacting interface, such that the flat base of the substrate core remains exposed.

61. The headpiece of any one or more of claims 59 to 60 wherein the embrasure conforming body corresponds to an overmold disposed around the first projection.

62. The headpiece of any one or more of claims 59 to 61, wherein the medial axis is located inset from a tip of the first arm and a tip of the second arm; and the embrasure conforming body further comprises:81.second projection of the substrate core, the second projection extending from the flat base across the outer face through the respective arm and comprising an opposite base spanning across an area on the inner face of the respective arm that is located between the medial axis and the tip of the respective arm.

63. The headpiece of claim 62, wherein the opposite base of the second projection of the core has a triangular profile that extends into a concavity of a concave quadrilateral geometry of a cross-section of the embrasure conforming body.

64. The headpiece of any one or more of claims 43 to 63, wherein the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions have a uniform lateral spacing between one another.

65. The headpiece of claim 64, wherein the uniform lateral spacing is greater than a thickness of the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions.

66. The headpiece of any one or more of claims 43 to 65, wherein the first distance is approximately one-third of a distance of the floss filament spanning from the inner face of the first arm to the inner face of the second arm.

67. A foundational component of an oral care device, comprising:86.a first arm and a second arm disposed on opposite ends of a headpiece body and extending parallel to one another along a height direction from the headpiece body, each of the first arm and the second arm including an inner face and an outer face;87.a floss filament extending between the inner face of the first arm and the inner face of the second arm along a lateral axis perpendicular to the height direction, and directly attached to each of the first arm and the second arm:88.a substrate core that extends from the outer face to the inner face of the respective arm and medially from the inner face of the respective arm and terminating at a first distance past the inner face of the respective arm; and89.one or more stabilizing cores attached to the outer face or the inner face, the one or more stabilizing cores configured to prevent flexion of the respective arm during a molding process to mold an embrasure conforming body onto the substrate core.

68. The foundational component of claim 67, wherein the one or more stabilizing cores comprises an outer stabilizing core attached to the outer face and aninner stabilizing core attached to the inner face, wherein the substrate cores, the first arm, the second arm, and the stabilizing cores form a unitary structure.

69. The foundational component of claim 68, wherein the outer stabilizing core comprises cross sections having a substantially concave quadrilateral or triangular profile, wherein the cross sections are defined along normal planes perpendicular to the lateral axis.

70. The foundational component of any one or more of claims 67 to 68, wherein the inner stabilizing core comprises a triangular structure that extends medially from the respective arm, the inner stabilizing core being configured to absorb inward or outward flexing flexion applied to the substrate core.

71. The foundational component of any one or more of claims 67 to 70, wherein the substrate cores, the first arm, the second arm, and the stabilizing cores comprise a rigid plastic.

72. The foundational component of any one or more of claims 67 to 71, further comprising one or more embrasure cleaning features disposed over the substrate core, the one or more embrasure cleaning features extending medially from the inner face of the respective arm and terminating at the first distance or a second distance past the inner face of the respective arm, the one or more embrasure cleaning features comprising a second material with a second rigidity less than a first rigidity.

73. The foundational component of any one or more of claims 67 to 72, wherein the embrasure cleaning features comprise a bracket brush, a toothface scrub, or a prosthetic sweep.

74. The foundational component of any one or more of claims 67 to 73, wherein the substrate core comprises a substantially cylindrical or conical profile.

75. An oral care device comprising:98.a handle comprising a gripping portion and a neckpiece; and a headpiece removably coupled to the neckpiece, the headpiece comprising:99.a first arm and a second arm disposed on opposite ends of a headpiece body and extending parallel to one another along a height direction from the headpiece body, each of the first arm and the second arm including an inner face and an outer face;100.a floss filament extending between the inner face of the first arm and the inner face of the second arm along a medial axis perpendicular to the height direction, and directly attached to each of the first arm and the second arm, an embrasure contacting interface extending medially from the inner face of a respective arm, wherein the embrasure contacting interface comprises:101.a substrate core that extends from the outer face to the inner face of the respective arm and medially from the inner face of the respective arm and terminating at a first distance past the inner face of the respective arm, the substrate core comprising a first material with a first rigidity7;102.an embrasure conforming body disposed over the substrate core, the embrasure conforming body extending medially from the inner face of the respective arm and terminating at the first distance or a second distance past the inner face of the respective arm, the embrasure conforming body comprising a second material with a second rigidity less than the first rigidity; and103.a plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions, each of the embrasure contacting protrusions surrounding the embrasure conforming body and having respective contours that substantially match cross sections of the embrasure conforming body at corresponding lateral positions of the embrasure conforming body, the embrasure contacting protrusions being offset laterally with respect to one another.

76. The oral care device of claim 75, wherein the headpiece comprises protruding mating features that are complementary with embedded recessed features within an interlock of the neckpiece, the protruding mating features comprising a first mating feature, a second mating feature, and a third mating feature, the first mating feature having an opposite orientation compared to the third mating feature, and the first mating feature and the third mating feature being substantially equidistant with respect to a lateral direction from a centeraxis of the second mating feature, the center axis extending along a height direction or a length direction.

77. The oral care device of claim 76, wherein the neckpiece comprises the interlock, the interlock comprising a recessed groove and embedded recessed features positioned within the recessed groove, the embedded recessed features comprising a first embedded recessed feature, a second embedded recessed feature, and a third embedded recessed feature, the third embedded recessed feature having an opposite orientation relative to an orientation of the first embedded recessed feature, and the first embedded recess and the third embedded recess are substantially equidistant with respect to a lateral direction from a center axis of the second embedded recessed feature.

78. The oral care device of claim 77, wherein the first embedded recessed feature is complementary to the first mating feature or the third mating feature, the second embedded recessed feature is complementary to the second mating feature, and the third embedded recessed feature is complementary to the third mating feature or the first mating feature.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 78, wherein the handle comprises a constant cross-section portion corresponding to a gripping end and the neckpiece has a variable cross-section portion, wherein the substantially constant cross-section portion comprises constant cross-section surfaces along a length of the constant cross-section portion, the variable cross-section portion being directly adjacent to the constant cross-section portion, the variable cross-section portion having variable cross-section surfaces along a length of the variable cross-section portion, wherein the constant cross-section surfaces have a fixed width and a fixed height, and at least a portion of the variable cross-section surfaces having different widths or different heights.

80. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 79, wherein the first material with the first rigidity comprises a plastic, and the second materialwith the second rigidity comprises a rubber, and wherein the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions comprises the second material.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 80, wherein the embrasure conforming body tapers as the embrasure conforming body extends medially from the inner face of the respective arm, the tapering of the embrasure conforming body comprising decreasing cross-sectional dimensions as the embrasure conforming body extends from the inner face, the cross- sectional dimensions being defined within the cross sections, the cross sections being oriented along normal planes, the normal planes being substantially perpendicular to the lateral axis.

82. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 81, wherein a contour of each of the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions is confined within a normal plane.

83. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 82, wherein the embrasure contacting protrusions are offset substantially equidistant with one another with respect to the lateral direction.

84. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 83, wherein the contours of the embrasure contacting protrusions comprise a concave quadrilateral geometry or a triangular geometry.

85. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 84, wherein the embrasure conforming body comprises a profile of a pyramid or a Iruncalcd pyramid.

86. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 85, wherein the substrate core comprises a different profile compared to the profile of the embrasure conforming body.

87. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 86, wherein the substrate core comprises a substantially conical or cylindrical profile.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75 to 87, wherein the embrasure contacting interface is disposed at an upper portion of the headpiece, and the headpiece further comprises a scraper disposed at a bottom surface of the headpiece, wherein the scraper comprises one or more serrations configured to scrape a tongue surface.

89. The oral care device of claim 88, wherein the one or more serrations include at least one ridge having a cross-sectional shape of a single-bevel blade.

90. The oral care device of claim 89, wherein the one or more serrations includes a first serration having a cross-sectional shape of a blade with a single upwards-facing bevel and one or more second serrations having a cross- sectional shape of a blade with a single downwards -facing bevel.

91. fhe oral care device of claim 88, wherein the one or more serrations include a first serration that includes a blade spanning across a width of the scraper and a second serration that includes a plurality of individual bristles arranged across the width of the scraper.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75-91 , wherein the embrasure contacting interface further comprises a transitioning body that directly contacts the embrasure conforming body when the embrasure conforming body terminates at the first distance or the second distance, the transitioning body being aligned with the floss filament with respect to a height, wherein the embrasure conforming body, the transitioning body, and the floss filament are substantially collinear.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75-92, wherein the transitioning body comprises a rounded tip at a first end farther from the inner face of the respective arm and comprises a pyramidal face at a second end that directly contacts the embrasure conforming body, wherein the rounded tip is configured as a leading edge to facilitate sliding of the embrasure conforming body along an embrasure.

94. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75-93, wherein the floss filament comprises an exposed portion between the two rounded tips of the two transitioning bodies and an unexposed portion between each respective inner face and the respective rounded tips.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75-94, wherein the substrate core comprises a flat base across the outer face of the respective arm and a first projection that extends from the flat base through the respective arm along the medial axis and terminating at the first distance past the inner face.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75-95, wherein the outer face of each of the first arm and the second arm is encased in a rubber layer that is less than or equal to a height of the flat base of the substrate core of the embrasure contacting interface, such that the flat base of the substrate core remains exposed.

97. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 95 or 96, wherein the embrasure conforming body corresponds to an overmold disposed around the first projection.

The oral care device of any one or more of claims 95-97, wherein the medial axis is located inset from a tip of the first arm and a tip of the second arm; and the embrasure conforming body further comprises:125.a second projection of the substrate core, the second projection extending from the flat base across the outer face through the respective arm and comprising an opposite base spanning across an area on the inner face of the respective arm that is located between the medial axis and the tip of the respective arm.

99. The oral care device of claim 98, wherein the opposite base of the second projection of the core has a triangular profile that extends into a concavity of a concave quadrilateral geometry of a cross-section of the embrasure conforming body.

100. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75-99, wherein the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions have a uniform lateral spacing between one another.

101. The oral care device of claim 100, wherein the uniform lateral spacing is greater than a thickness of the plurality of embrasure contacting protrusions.

102. The oral care device of any one or more of claims 75-101, wherein the first distance is approximately one -third of a lateral dimension of the floss filament spanning from the inner face of the first arm to the inner face of the second arm.

104. The oral care device kit of claim 103, wherein the oral care device cover contains one or more cleaning chemicals configured to sanitize the oral care device when the oral care device is housed within the oral care device cover.
