AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In wireless communication networks, UEs face challenges in estimating pathloss for uplink power control when communicating with multiple transmission reception points (TRPs), particularly in asymmetric DL sTRP/UL mTRP scenarios where DL and UL TRPs are not synchronized, leading to a lack of DL reference signals for UL-only TRPs.

Method used

A mechanism is introduced to configure a pathloss offset for UL-only TRPs relative to a DL TRP using MAC control elements or RRC signaling, with UEs determining whether to use an initial or updated pathloss offset based on a configuration rule during uplink procedures.

Benefits of technology

This approach enables effective uplink power control by accurately adjusting transmit power, improving communication reliability and performance in asymmetric DL sTRP/UL mTRP scenarios.

Abstract

Techniques described herein include solutions for asymmetric downlink (DL) single transmission reception point (sTRP) / uplink (UL) multiple transmission reception point (mTRP) power control. A user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of a first TCI state for an UL transmission and an initial pathloss offset for the first TCI state. The UE may receive DCI to schedule the UL transmission, and receive an indication of an updated pathloss offset for the first TCI state after receiving the DCI. The UE may transmit the UL transmission based on the initial pathloss offset or the updated pathloss offset, based on a pathloss configuration rule.

[0020] The following detailed description refers to the accompanying drawings. Like reference numbers in different drawings may identify the same or similar features, elements, operations, etc. Additionally, the present disclosure is not limited to the following description as other implementations may be utilized, and structural or logical changes made, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0021] A user equipment (UE) may measure downlink (DL) reference signals from a base station to estimate pathloss for uplink (UL) power control. Furthermore, the UE may communicate with multiple transmission reception points (TRPs) for enhanced performance. One communication scheme involving the use the multiple TRPs is asymmetric downlink (DL) single transmission reception point (sTRP)  / UL multiple transmission reception point (mTRP) , which involves the use of a different number of TRPs for DL and UL respectively. For example, a single TRP is used for DL and / or UL, and one or more other TRPs are used for UL only. The  UE may not be configured for DL communication with the UL only TRPs, and thus may not receive DL reference signals from the UL only TRPs. Accordingly, a mechanism to estimate pathloss in the absence of the DL reference signals from the UL only TRPs is desired. The present disclosure relates to pathloss offset configuration, which may be used to configure a pathloss offset for an UL only TRP, relative to a pathloss estimated from a DL reference signal from a DL TRP. In some aspects, the network updates the pathloss offset by transmitting a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) or radio resource control (RRC) signaling to the UE. In some aspects, if the pathloss offset update occurs during an UL procedure, the UE determines whether to utilize the updated pathloss offset or an initial pathloss offset for the UL procedure based on a pathloss configuration rule.

[0022] Fig. 1 illustrates an example network 100 including a UE 101 and a radio access network (RAN) 110. The RAN 110 includes one or more base stations 111 (referred to individually as “base station 111” or collectively as “base stations 111” ) , a first TRP 112-1, a second TRP 112-2, and an nth TRP 112-N (referred to collectively as “TRPs 112” ) . In some examples, the TRPs are included in the same or different base stations of the one or more base stations 111. In some examples, the base stations 111 comprise Evolved NodeBs (eNBs) , next generation NodeBs (gNBs) , and / or other similar devices.

[0023] The systems and devices of example network 100 may operate in accordance with one or more communication standards, such as 2nd generation (2G) , 3rd generation (3G) , 4th generation (4G) (e.g., long-term evolution (LTE) ) , and / or 5th generation (5G) (e.g., new radio (NR) ) communication standards of the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) . Additionally, or alternatively, one or more of the systems and devices of example network 100 may operate in accordance with other communication standards and protocols discussed herein, including future versions or generations of 3GPP standards (e.g., sixth generation (6G) standards, seventh generation (7G) standards, etc. ) , institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) standards (e.g., wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) , worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) , etc. ) , and more.

[0024] In some aspects, the UE 101 is configured to communicate using an asymmetric DL sTRP / UL mTRP communication scheme. For example, the UE 101 communicates with the first TRP 112-1 in the DL or UL direction, using connections 102, 104 respectively. Further, the UE 101 communicates with the second TRP 112-2 in the UL direction only using connection 106. In some examples, the DL sTRP / UL mTRP communication scheme involves a single DCI communication scheme. For example, the first TRP 112-1 performs scheduling for both the first and second TRPs 112-1, 112-2 by transmitting DCI to the UE 101.

[0025] In some aspects, to facilitate UL power control, the UE 101 receives an indication of an initial pathloss offset value to be used for UL transmission. Subsequently, the UE 101 receives scheduling downlink control information (DCI) for an UL procedure, and receives an indication of an updated pathloss offset during the UL procedure. The UE 101 determines whether to utilize the initial pathloss offset or the updated pathloss offset for the UL procedure based on a pathloss configuration rule, as illustrated in the example of Fig. 1 by steps 1-3, which may occur in chronological order.

[0026] At step 1 the UE 101 receives an indication of an initial pathloss offset. For example, the first TRP 112-1 transmits the indication of the initial pathloss offset (e.g., via MAC CE or RRC signaling) to the UE 101 using the connection 102.

[0027] At step 2, the UE 101 receives an indication of an updated pathloss offset (e.g., via MAC CE or RRC signaling) . In some examples, the indication of the updated pathloss offset is received after receiving scheduling DCI for an UL transmission. The updated pathloss offset and the scheduling DCI may be transmitted by the first TRP 112-1 to the UE 101 using the connection 102.

[0028] At step 3, the UE 101 performs the UL transmission scheduled by the DCI based on an the initial pathloss offset or the updated pathloss offset, based on a pathloss configuration rule. A pathloss offset may be used by the UE 101 when performing UL transmission to facilitate pathloss calculation for UL power control. For example, based on a calculated pathloss (e.g., based on the pathloss offset) , the UE 101 may adjust its transmit (Tx) power for the UL transmission. In some examples, the UL transmission includes one of: a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission, a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmission, or a sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission.

[0029] In some examples, the pathloss offset is configured for a TCI state. The network may configure the UE 101 with a list of TCI states, which may contain parameters for communication such as power control parameters, quasi-colocation (QCL) information, etc. A pathloss offset may be configured for each TCI state within the TCI state list. In some examples, the first TRP 112-1 transmits a TCI state configuration (e.g., via RRC signaling) to the UE 101 to configure the TCI state list, including pathloss offset values for each TCI state in the list. In some examples, the network estimates a difference between signals received on the DL TRP and the UL TRP to generate a pathloss offset associated with the UL TRP.

[0030] In some examples, the UE 101 applies the pathloss offset for an indicated TCI state. For example, the network transmits signaling (e.g., DCI and / or MAC CE) to “indicate” a set of TCI states (e.g., one or two TCI states) , and the UE 101 applies the indicated TCI state (including the pathloss offset of the indicated TCI state) until another set of TCI states is  indicated. The TCI states may be jointly indicated via a shared codepoint of the TCI states, which may be included in the DCI and / or MAC CE signaling. In the scenario where multiple TCI states are indicated, the TCI states may be configured different schemes, such as time domain multiplexing (TDM) , spatial domain multiplexing (SDM) , or single frequency network (SFN) . Based on the configured scheme, the UE 101 may determine which of the indicated TCI states to use. In some examples, the TCI states include unified TCI states, which may be applied to different types of UL and / or DL transmissions, such as reference signals, PUSCH, physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) , etc.

[0031] In some examples, when the UL transmission follows the indicated TCI state, the pathloss configuration rule includes using a pathloss offset for the UL transmission based on a time instance when the UL transmission was scheduled (e.g., by the scheduling DCI) . For example, the pathloss configuration rule includes using the pathloss offset of the indicated TCI state at the time instance which a scheduling command (e.g., DCI) for the UL transmission is received.

[0032] In other examples, when the UL transmission follows the indicated TCI state, the pathloss configuration rule includes using a pathloss offset for the UL transmission based on a time instance of the UL transmission. For example, the pathloss configuration rule includes using the pathloss offset of the indicated TCI state at the time instance which the UL transmission is performed.

[0033] In some examples, the UL transmission involves multiple repetitions, and the updated pathloss offset is received between repetitions of the UL transmission. In such examples, the pathloss offset rule may include using a same pathloss offset value for all repetitions of the UL transmission. Alternatively, the pathloss offset rule may include using a pathloss offset for each UL transmission repetition based on a time instance of the respective UL transmission repetition.

[0034] In some examples, the initial pathloss offset is used for a less capable UE, since the required processing latency is reduced when compared to dynamically updating the pathloss offset before the UL transmission is performed. For a more capable UE, using the updated pathloss offset may be preferred to optimize power control adjustment based on the latest available channel information. Further details of pathloss configuration rules are described below with reference to the following figures.

[0035] Fig. 2 illustrates an example of a pathloss update during an UL procedure. In some aspects, a UE (e.g., 101) receives a pathloss offset update after receiving scheduling DCI, but before performing the UL transmission scheduled by the scheduling DCI. The UE determines  whether to use the pathloss offset update for the UL transmission based on a pathloss configuration rule.

[0036] In the illustrated example, the UE receives DCI 202 at a first point in time. The DCI 202 may include scheduling information for an UL transmission, for example, by indicating time and / or frequency resources for the UL transmission. The UE receives a pathloss offset update 204 at a second point in time, after receiving the DCI 202 but before performing the UL transmission 206 at a third point in time. At the third point in time, the UE performs the UL transmission 206 based on the DCI 202, for example, using the time and / or frequency resources indicated by the DCI 202. The UL transmission, for example, may include a PUSCH transmission, a PUCCH transmission, or an SRS transmission.

[0037] In some examples, the UL transmission follows an indicated TCI state. Before the pathloss offset update 204 is received, during a first time period 212, the UE is configured with a first pathloss offset (e.g., an initial pathloss offset) for the indicated TCI state, which is illustrated as X dB in the example of Fig. 2. Upon reception of the pathloss offset update 204, during a second time period 214, the UE is configured with a second pathloss offset (e.g., an updated pathloss offset) for the indicated TCI state, which is illustrated as Y dB. The updated pathloss offset of Y dB may be equal to the pathloss offset indicated in the pathloss offset update 204.

[0038] In some examples, as described below in further detail with reference to Fig. 3, the UE determines to use the first pathloss offset (e.g., X dB) based on the pathloss configuration rule. In other examples, as described below in further detail with reference to Fig. 4, the UE determines to use the second pathloss offset (e.g., Y dB) based on the pathloss configuration rule.

[0039] Figs. 3-4 illustrate examples of signaling between the UE 101, the first TRP 112-1, and the second TRP 112-2 for an UL procedure based on a pathloss configuration rule. In some aspects, as shown in Fig. 3, the pathloss configuration rule includes using the current pathloss offset at a time instance when UL transmission is scheduled. In other aspects, as shown in Fig. 4, the pathloss configuration rule includes using the current pathloss offset at a time instance when the UL transmission is performed. In some examples, the first TRP 112-1 is configured for DL and / or UL communication with the UE 101, while the second TRP 112-2 is configured for UL communication only with the UE 101, as part of an asymmetric DL sTRP / UL mTRP communication scheme.

[0040] With reference to Figs. 3-4, at act 302, the first TRP 112-1 transmits an indication of an initial pathloss offset to the UE 101. In some examples, the indication is transmitted via a MAC CE, such as a pathloss offset update MAC CE. In other examples, the indication is  transmitted via RRC signaling. For example, the initial pathloss offset may be configured by TCI state configuration (e.g., initial TCI configuration, or TCI reconfiguration) .

[0041] At act 304, the first TRP 112-1 transmits a scheduling command to the UE 101 for an UL transmission to the second TRP 112-2. The scheduling command may indicate time / frequency resources to be used by the UE 101 for the UL transmission, as previously described. In some examples, the scheduling command is included in DCI.

[0042] At act 306, the first TRP 112-1 transmits an indication of an updated pathloss offset to the UE 101 (e.g., via MAC CE or RRC signaling) . For example, the UE 101 receives the updated pathloss offset after receiving the scheduling command at act 304 but before performing UL transmission (act 308 or 408) . For example, there may be up to a multiple slot time gap between the scheduling DCI and the UL transmission.

[0043] With reference to Fig. 3, in some aspects the UE 101 transmits the UL transmission based on a current pathloss offset at a time instance when the UL transmission was scheduled, according to the pathloss configuration rule. In the example of Fig. 3, the initial pathloss offset from act 302 is the current pathloss offset at a time instance when the scheduling command is received at act 304. Accordingly, at act 308 the UE 101 transmits the UL transmission to the second TRP 112-2 using the initial pathloss offset. The UE 101 may transmit the UL transmission using the time / frequency resources indicated in the scheduling command of act 304.

[0044] With reference to Fig. 4, in some aspects the UE 101 transmits the UL transmission based on a current pathloss offset at a time instance of the UL transmission, according to the pathloss configuration rule. In the example of Fig. 4, the updated pathloss offset from act 306 is the current pathloss offset at a time instance when the UL transmission is performed at act 408. Accordingly, at act 408 the UE 101 transmits the UL transmission to the second TRP 112-2 using the updated pathloss offset. The UE 101 may transmit the UL transmission using the time / frequency resources indicated in the scheduling command of act 304.

[0045] Fig. 5 illustrates an example of a pathloss update during an UL procedure with multiple repetitions. Repetition (e.g., slot aggregation) may be configured to improve decoding performance for an UL transmission. In some aspects, a UE (e.g., 101) receives a pathloss offset update after transmitting a first UL repetition, but before transmitting a second UL repetition. Further, the UE determines whether to use the pathloss update for the second UL repetition based on a pathloss configuration rule.

[0046] In the illustrated example, the UE transmits a first UL repetition 502 at a first point in time and a second UL repetition 506 at a third point in time. The UE receives a pathloss offset update 504 at a second point in time after transmitting the first UL repetition 502 but before  transmitting the second UL repetition 506. The UL repetitions 502, 506, for example, may include PUSCH repetitions, or PUCCH repetitions.

[0047] In some examples, the UL transmission follows an indicated TCI state. Before the pathloss offset update 504 is received, during a first time period 512, the UE is configured with a first pathloss offset (e.g., an initial pathloss offset) for the indicated TCI state, which is illustrated as X dB in the example of Fig. 5. Upon reception of the pathloss offset update 504, during a second time period 514, the UE is configured with a second pathloss offset (e.g., an updated pathloss offset) for the indicated TCI state, which is illustrated as Y dB, which may be equal to the pathloss offset indicated in the pathloss offset update 504.

[0048] In some aspects, the UE determines which pathloss offset to use for each UL repetition based on a pathloss configuration rule. In some examples, as described in further detail below with reference to Fig. 6, the UE determines to use the first pathloss offset (e.g., X dB) for the first UL repetition, and the second pathloss offset (e.g., Y dB) for the second UL repetition, based on the pathloss configuration rule. In other examples, as described in further detail below with reference to Fig. 7, the UE determines to use the first pathloss offset for both the first and second UL repetitions, based on the pathloss configuration rule.

[0049] Figs. 6-7 illustrate examples of signaling between the UE 101, the first TRP 112-1, and the second TRP 112-2 for an UL procedure with multiple repetitions based on a pathloss configuration rule. In some aspects, as shown in Fig. 6, the pathloss configuration rule includes determining a pathloss offset for each UL repetition, based on a time instance of the UL repetition. In other aspects, as shown in Fig. 7, the pathloss configuration rule includes using a same pathloss offset for all repetitions of the UL transmission.

[0050] With reference to Fig. 6, at act 602, the first TRP 112-1 transmits an indication of an initial pathloss offset to the UE 101, for example, similar to act 302 as previously described.

[0051] In some examples, at act 604, the first TRP 112-1 transmits a scheduling command (e.g., DCI) to the UE 101 to schedule the UL transmission repetitions. For example, the DCI indicates time resources, frequency resources, and / or a number of repetitions for the UL transmission.

[0052] In alternative examples, the first TRP 112-1 does not transmit a scheduling command at act 604, and the UE 101 performs the UL transmissions based on UL configured grant resources.

[0053] In the example of Fig. 6, the UE 101 determines a pathloss offset for each UL repetition based on a time instance of the UL repetition. For example, the pathloss configuration rule includes using the pathloss offset of the indicated TCI state for each UL repetition at the respective time instance of the UL transmission.

[0054] At act 606, the UE transmits a first UL repetition to the first TRP 112-1 or the second TRP 112-2 based on the initial pathloss offset. At act 608, the first TRP 112-1 transmits an indication of an updated pathloss offset (e.g., for the indicated TCI state) to the UE 101. At act 610, the UE 101 transmits the second UL repetition to the first TRP 112-1 or the second TRP 112-2 based on the updated pathloss offset (e.g., according to the pathloss configuration rule) . In some examples, the first and second UL repetitions are transmitted to a same TRP (e.g., first TRP 112-1 or second TRP 112-2) . In other examples, the first and second UL repetitions alternate between TRPs, e.g., the first repetition is transmitted to the first TRP 112-1 and the second repetition is transmitted to the second TRP 112-2. In the example of Fig. 6, the pathloss offset to be applied is determined independently for each UL repetition, using the most recently indicated pathloss offset at the transmission occasion of the UL repetition.

[0055] Fig. 7 resembles Fig. 6 containing acts 602, 604, 608, but differs in acts 706, 710. In some aspects, the pathloss configuration rule includes using the pathloss offset of the indicated TCI state at a time instance of the first repetition, for all subsequent repetitions of the same UL transmission. Alternatively, the UE 101 may use the current pathloss offset when the scheduling DCI is received (e.g., act 604) , similar to Fig. 3. As shown in Fig. 7, the UE 101 applies the initial pathloss offset to the first UL repetition (at act 706) and to the subsequent UL repetition (at act 710) .

[0056] At act 706, the UE 101 transmits the first UL repetition to the first TRP 112-1 or the second TRP 112-2 based on the initial pathloss offset. Similar to Fig. 6, the UE 101 receives the indication of the updated pathloss offset at act 608. At act 710, the UE 101 transmits the second UL repetition to the first TRP 112-1 or the second TRP 112-2 based on the initial pathloss offset (e.g., according to the pathloss configuration rule) . Similar to Fig. 6, the first and second UL repetitions may be transmitted to a same TRP, or alternate between transmission to different TRPs. For example, the pathloss configuration rule includes using the same pathloss offset as used for the first UL repetition, for all subsequent UL repetitions in the same UL transmission.

[0057] In some aspects, upon reception of an updated pathloss offset (e.g., act 306 or act 608) , the UE 101 resets one or more closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states. In some examples, the UE 101 resets all CLPC adjustment states (e.g., resets all CLPC indexes) . In other examples, the UE 101 resets only the CLPC adjustment state (s) corresponding to the updated pathloss offset. For example, the UE 101 resets the CLPC adjustment state (s) with the CLPC index that is configured in the corresponding TCI state (s) updated by the updated pathloss offset.

[0058] As an example, two CLPC adjustment states CLPC 0 and CLPC 1 are configured. A unified TCI state is configured with CLPC 1. When the network updates the pathloss offset for  the unified TCI state (e.g., via RRC or MAC CE) : Example 1 –UE resets both CLPC 0 and CLPC 1, Example 2 –UE resets CLPC 1 only.

[0059] Figs. 8-10 illustrate examples of MAC CEs for updating one or more pathloss offsets. In some aspects, each pathloss offset is associated with a TCI state, and a MAC CE is used to update the pathloss offsets for the respective TCI states. A pathloss offset may be configured for a TCI state along with other parameters for communication between the UE 101 and the network (e.g., devices within RAN 110) . Other parameters of a TCI state, such as QCL information for reference signals, power control parameters, etc. may be used in addition to the pathloss offset to facilitate communication between the UE 101 and the network.

[0060] A UE 101 may be configured by the network with one or more TCI state lists. For example, the UE 101 may be configured with a list up to a maximum number (e.g., 64 or 128) of TCI states for UL and / or DL respectively. In some examples, the TCI states are configured by a TCI state configuration, which may be transmitted by a device of the RAN 110 (e.g., base station 111 or one of TRPs 112) to the UE 101. Furthermore, the UE 101 may be configured with different types of TCI states by the TCI state configuration. A joint / UL TCI state may be applied to either UL or DL communications. Other types of TCI states may include UL only TCI states and DL only TCI states, which may be applied to only to UL or DL communications respectively.

[0061] With reference to Figs. 8-10, in some aspects, a MAC CE includes one or more pathloss offsets corresponding to one or more respective TCI states. For example, one or more pathloss offset values are indicated by the MAC CE with one or more corresponding TCI state identities (IDs) . Upon reception of the MAC CE, the UE 101 may update the TCI state (s) with the corresponding pathloss offset (s) indicated by the MAC CE.

[0062] As shown in Fig. 8, in some aspects, the MAC CE updates pathloss offsets for one or more joint / UL TCI states (e.g., “TCI-State” ) . As shown in Fig. 9, in some aspects, the MAC CE updates pathloss offsets for one or more UL only TCI states (e.g., “TCI-UL-State-r17” ) . As shown in Fig. 10, in some aspects, the MAC CE updates pathloss offsets for one or more joint / UL and / or UL only TCI states.

[0063] With reference to Fig. 8, illustrated is an example of a MAC CE 800 for updating one or more pathloss offsets. In some aspects, the MAC CE 800 is a pathloss offset update MAC CE for joint / UL TCI states. As shown, the MAC CE 800 includes a first octet 810, second octet 820, third octet, and a set of octets 840. In some examples, each octet comprises 8 bits.

[0064] In some examples, the first octet 810 indicates a serving cell ID and a DL bandwidth part (BWP) ID. The serving cell ID may be an ID of a serving cell for the UE 101, which may be the cell in which the MAC CE 800 is applied. The DL BWP ID may be an ID of the DL BWP in  which the MAC CE 800 is applied. For example, the DL BWP may be associated with the TCI state (s) indicated in the MAC CE 800. As shown, the first octet includes a single reserved bit “R” , 5 bits for the serving cell ID, and 2 bits for the DL BWP ID.

[0065] In some examples, the second octet 820 indicates a first TCI state ID (e.g., “TCI-StateId” ) , and the third octet 830 indicates a first pathloss offset value. For example, upon reception of the MAC CE 800, the UE 101 updates the TCI state corresponding to the first TCI state ID with the first pathloss offset value. As shown, the second octet 820 includes a single reserved bit, and 7 bits for the first TCI state ID. In some examples, the first TCI state ID is for a joint / UL TCI state. The third octet 830 includes a single reserved bit, and 7 bits for the first pathloss offset value. In some examples, the 7 bits for the pathloss offset value are indicate with a value of i. Further, the pathloss offset value may be indicated as a positive number with an offset of -12 (e.g., pathloss offset = i –12) , resulting in a potential range of [-12, 60] .

[0066] Optionally, the MAC CE 800 includes the set of octets 840, which may contain further octets similar to the second and third octets 820, 830. For example, the MAC CE 800 updates pathloss offset values for further TCI states up to an nth TCI state, as shown by TCI state ID N and pathloss offset N.

[0067] With reference to Fig. 9, illustrated is an example of a MAC CE 900 for updating one or more pathloss offsets. In some aspects, the MAC CE 900 is a pathloss offset update MAC CE for UL only TCI states. As shown, the MAC CE 900 includes a first octet 910, a second octet 920, a third octet 930, and a set of octets 940.

[0068] In some examples, the first octet 910 indicates a serving cell ID and an UL BWP ID. The serving cell ID may be an ID of a serving cell for the UE 101, which may be the cell in which the MAC CE 900 is applied. The UL BWP ID may be an ID of the UL BWP in which the MAC CE 900 is applied. For example, the UL BWP may be associated with the UL only TCI state (s) indicated in the MAC CE 900. As shown, the first octet includes a single reserved bit, 5 bits for the serving cell ID, and 2 bits for the UL BWP ID.

[0069] In some examples, the second octet 920 indicates a first TCI state ID (e.g., “TCI-UL-StateId-r17” ) , and the third octet 930 indicates a first pathloss offset value (e.g., similar to octets 820, 830) . The first TCI state ID may be for an UL only TCI state. In some examples, the octet 920 differs from the octet 820 in that it includes 2 reserved bits, and 6 bits for the TCI state ID. For example, the UE 101 may be configured with a smaller maximum number of UL only TCI states than joint / UL TCI states, therefore, the UL only TCI state may be indicated using fewer bits.

[0070] Optionally, the MAC CE 900 includes the set of octets 940, which may contain further octets similar to the second and third octets 920, 930. For example, the MAC CE 900  updates pathloss offset values for further TCI states up to an nth TCI state, as shown by TCI state ID N and pathloss offset N.

[0071] With reference to Fig. 10 illustrated is an example of a MAC CE 1000 for updating one or more pathloss offsets. In some aspects, the MAC CE 1000 is a pathloss offset update MAC CE for either joint / UL TCI states or UL only TCI states, or both joint / UL and UL only TCI states. As shown, the MAC CE 1000 includes a first octet 1010, a second octet 1020, a third octet 1030, a fourth octet 1040, and a set of octets 1050.

[0072] In some examples, the first octet 1010 indicates a serving cell ID and a DL BWP ID (e.g., similar to octet 810) . The DL BWP ID may be used for the joint / UL TCI states. As shown, the first octet 1010 includes a single reserved bit, 5 bits for the serving cell ID, and 2 bits for the DL BWP ID.

[0073] In some examples, the second octet 1020 indicates an UL BWP ID, which may be used for the UL only TCI states. As shown, the second octet 1020 includes 6 reserved bits, and 2 bits for the UL BWP ID.

[0074] In some examples, the TCI states are configured per BWP. For example, the joint / UL TCI states are configured in the DL BWP, and the UL TCI states are configured in the UL BWP. The UE 101 may utilize the DL BWP ID and the UL BWP ID to lookup the TCI state configuration (s) for the TCI states indicated in the MAC CE 1000.

[0075] In some examples, the third octet 1030 indicates a first TCI state ID, which may be for a joint / UL TCI state (e.g., “TCI-State” ) or an UL only TCI state (e.g., “TCI-UL-StateId-r17” ) . Further, the third octet 1030 includes a flag bit F1, which may be used to indicate whether the TCI state is for a joint / UL TCI state or an UL only TCI state. For example, a value of ‘0’ could indicate UL only TCI state and a value of ‘1’ could indicate joint / UL TCI state, or vice versa. As shown, the third octet 1030 includes a single flag bit F1, and 7 bits for the first TCI state ID. In some examples, when the flag bit indicates UL only TCI state, the TCI state ID only occupies 6 out of the 7 bits (e.g., similar to Fig. 9) .

[0076] In some examples, the fourth octet 1040 indicates a first pathloss offset value (e.g., similar to octet 830) corresponding to the TCI state indicated by the first TCI state ID. For example, upon reception of the MAC CE 1000, the UE 101 updates the TCI state corresponding to the first TCI state ID with the first pathloss offset value.

[0077] Optionally, the MAC CE 1000 includes the set of octets 1050, which may contain further octets similar to the third and fourth octets 1030, 1040. For example, the MAC CE 1000 updates pathloss offset values for further TCI states up to an nth TCI state, as shown by TCI state ID N and pathloss offset N. The TCI states may include joint / UL TCI states, UL only TCI states, or a combination of joint / UL and UL only TCI states. The type of each TCI state (e.g., joint / UL  or UL only) may be indicated using a respective flag bit included in a same octet as the TCI state ID, as previously described.

[0078] The MAC CEs 800, 900, 1000 may be used to indicate pathloss offsets to the UE 101 (e.g., initial pathloss offset and / or update pathloss offset) , as described with reference to Figs. 1-7 and throughout the present disclosure.

[0079] Fig. 11 illustrates an example flow diagram for a UE (e.g., 101) for a pathloss update procedure. In some aspects, upon receiving a pathloss offset update command for a TCI state, the UE 101 updates all other TCI states in a same list with the same pathloss offset.

[0080] At act 1110, the UE 101 receives a TCI state configuration to configure one or more TCI state lists. For example, the UE 101 receives RRC signaling from the network (e.g., base station 111 or one of TRPs 112) including the TCI state configuration.

[0081] At act 1120, the UE 101 receives an indication of an updated pathloss offset associated with a first TCI state. For example, the indication of the updated pathloss offset may include one of the MAC CEs 800, 900, 1000.

[0082] At act 1130, the UE 101 updates the pathloss offset for each TCI state in the same TCI state list as the first TCI state. In some examples, the TCI state lists are configured such that all TCI states in a same list share a pathloss offset value. For example, the TCI states in the same list are for a same TRP. By configuring the TCI state lists, pathloss offset values for multiple TCI states in the list can be updated by signaling a pathloss update for a single TCI state in the list, thereby improving signal overhead and efficiency.

[0083] Figs. 12-13 illustrate examples of a pathloss offset indication during a random access procedure. In some aspects, the pathloss offset indication configures whether a pathloss offset for an indicated TCI state should be applied to a Msg3 transmission of the random access procedure. As shown in Fig. 12, in some aspects, the pathloss offset indication is included in a Msg2 of the random access procedure. As shown in Fig. 13, in some aspects, the pathloss offset indication is included in DCI during the random access procedure.

[0084] With reference to Figs. 12-13, in some examples, the pathloss offset indication includes a 1 bit indication. For example, when one TCI state (e.g., one unified TCI state) is indicated, the 1 bit indication configures whether to apply the pathloss offset of the TCI state for subsequent UL transmission (e.g., Msg3 transmission) . For example, a value of ‘0’ could indicate that the UE 101 should not apply the pathloss offset, while a value of ‘1’ could indicate that the UE 101 should apply the pathloss offset, or vice versa.

[0085] In another example, when two TCI states (e.g., two unified TCI states) are indicated, the 1 bit indication configures whether to apply the pathloss offset of the first TCI state or the pathloss offset of the second TCI state for the subsequent UL transmission. For example a value  of ‘0’ could indicate that the UE 101 should apply the pathloss offset of the first TCI state, while a value of ‘1’ could indicate that the UE 101 should apply the pathloss offset of the second TCI state, or vice versa.

[0086] In some examples, the pathloss offset indication includes a multi-bit indication. In one example, the multi-bit indication explicitly indicates the pathloss offset value (e.g., as a binary value) . In another example, the multi-bit indication includes an index pointing to a separate table of pathloss offset values configured by the network. For example, the separate table may be configured in a system information block (SIB) (e.g., SIB1) .

[0087] In the example of Fig. 12, at act 1202 the UE 101 transmits a Msg1 (e.g., random access preamble) to the base station 111.

[0088] At act 1204, the base station transmits a Msg2 (e.g., random access response) to the UE 101, including the pathloss offset indication. The Msg2 may further include a grant of UL resources for a Msg3.

[0089] At act 1206, the UE 101 transmits the Msg3 (e.g., a PUSCH) to the base station 111 based on the UL grant in the Msg2 and the pathloss offset indication.

[0090] In the example of Fig. 13, at act 1302 the UE 101 transmits a Msg1 to the base station 111, for example, similar to act 1202.

[0091] At act 1304, the base station 111 transmits DCI to the UE 101 including the pathloss offset indication. The DCI may further include scheduling information for a Msg2. In some examples, the DCI includes a DCI format 1_0. Additionally or alternatively, the DCI may be cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI) or a MsgB-RNTI.

[0092] At act 1306, the UE 101 receives the Msg2 including a grant of UL resources for a Msg3.

[0093] At act 1308, the UE 101 transmits the Msg3 (e.g., a PUSCH) to the base station 111 based on the UL grant in the Msg2 and based on the pathloss offset indication.

[0094] In some examples, the UE 101 of Figs. 12-13 operates using asymmetric DL sTRP / UL mTRP communication scheme. Although the UE 101 is illustrated in Figs. 12-13 as communicating with the base station 111, in alternative examples the UE 101 performs the rando access procedure with one or more TRPs (e.g., TRPs 112-1 and / or 112-2 of Fig. 1) . The UE 101 may perform the random access procedure with a single TRP, or with multiple TRPs, where the DL communications are with a TRP that supports DL (e.g., TRP 112-1) and the UL communications are with a TRP that supports UL (e.g., TRP 112-2) . As an example, the UE 101 receives the DCI scheduling Msg2 (e.g., at 1304) from the DL TRP. The Msg3 scheduled by the  Msg2 can be transmitted to the DL TRP or the UL only TRP. Each TRP may belong to a base station, such as one of the base stations 111.

[0095] Fig. 14 illustrates an example of a transmission power control (TPC) command in a DCI format 0_1 or DCI format 1_1. In some aspects, the TPC command is included in an enhanced DCI format 0_1 and / or an enhanced DCI format 1_1. The TPC command may be used, for example, to adjust a SRS closed loop power control CLPC adjustment state.

[0096] At act 1402, the UE 101 indicates its capability of support for two SRS CLPC adjustment states to the base station 111. In some examples, the UE 101 supports the enhanced DCI format 0_1 and / or format 1_1 when the UE 101 supports two SRS CLPC adjustment states separate from PUSCH. In other examples, the UE 101 supports the enhanced DCI format 0_1 and / or format 1_1 irrespective of whether the UE 101 supports two SRS CLPC adjustment states separate from PUSCH.

[0097] At act 1404, the base station 111 enables TPC commands for SRS CLPC adjustment states separate from PUSCH, in DCI format 0_1 and / or DCI format 1_1. In some examples, the network configures the enhanced DCI format 0_1 and / or the enhanced DCI format 1_1 when two SRS closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states separate from PUSCH are configured. In other examples, the network configures the enhanced DCI format 0_1 and / or the enhanced DCI format 1_1 irrespective of whether two SRS CLPC adjustment states separate from PUSCH are configured. In some further examples, the network only configures the enhanced DCI when at least one SRS is configured to use separate CLPC from a PUSCH CLPC. The network configures the enhanced DCI, for example, by setting a ‘srs-PowerControlAdjustmentStates’ field within an information element (IE) (e.g., an SRS-ResourceSet IE) to a value of ‘separateClosedLoop’ .

[0098] At act 1406, the base station 111 transmits a DCI with format 0_1 or format 1_1, including a TPC command for a SRS CLPC adjustment state. At act 1408, the UE applies the TPC command to the CLPC adjustment state.

[0099] In some examples, the SRS CLPC adjustment state comprises an initial value (e.g., 0) , and TPC commands are cumulatively applied to the SRS CLPC adjustment state until the SRS CLPC adjustment state is reset. For example, an initial value of an SRS CLPC adjustment state is 0. The UE 101 receives a first TPC command indicating +1, a second TPC command indicating +1, and a third TPC command indicating -1. Then, the value of the SRS CLPC adjustment state after the third TPC command would be +1.

[0100] In some examples, the TPC command includes a 2 bit TPC command. Furthermore, in some examples, a 1 bit CLPC index is excluded from the TPC command.

[0101] In some examples, the 1 bit CLPC is only excluded if the network only configures one CLPC adjustment state for SRS separate from PUSCH. In such examples, the TPC is applied to the one CLPC adjustment state.

[0102] In some additional or alternative examples, the 1 bit CLPC is excluded when the network configures two CLPC adjustment states for SRS separate from PUSCH. In such examples, the TPC may be applied to the CLPC adjustment state with the lowest ID. Alternatively, the TPC may be applied to the CLPC adjustment state associated with the SRS transmission that is triggered by the same DCI (e.g., the DCI format 0_1 or format 1_1) .

[0103] Similar to Figs. 12-13, although the illustrated example includes communication with a base station 111, alternative examples include communication with one or more TRPs (e.g., TRP 112-1, 112-2) in place of the base station 111.

[0104] Fig. 15 illustrates an example wireless network 1500 to configure a UE 101 for asymmetric DL sTRP / UL mTRP communication. Similar to Fig. 1, the wireless network includes the UE 101, RAN 110 including base station 111 and TRPs 112-1, 112-2, 112-3, and connections 102, 104, 106.

[0105] In some aspects, the network configures the UE 101 for DL sTRP / UL mTRP communication based on a set of configuration restrictions. For example the first TRP 112-1 transmits a configuration message to the UE 101 to configure DL sTRP / UL mTRP, via the connection 102.

[0106] In some examples, the DL sTRP / UL mTRP involves 1 DL TRP and 2 UL TRPs, one of which may be the same TRP as the DL TRP. Furthermore, when the network indicates two unified TCI states, one or more of the following cases may be configured:

[0107] Case 1: 1 joint / UL TCI state and 1 UL only TCI state are configured

[0108] Case 2: 2 UL only TCI states and 1 DL only TCI state are configured

[0109] Case 3: 2 joint / UL TCI states are configured

[0110] In some examples, the network only allows case 1. In other examples, the network allows both case 1 and case 2. In other examples, the network allows any of cases 1-3.

[0111] In some examples, when 2 timing advances (TAs) are configured for a serving cell (e.g., for two TRPs of the serving cell) and when control resource sets (CORESETs) with different indices (e.g., coresetPoolIndex) are configured, the network does not configure different TAs to be used for different CORESETs with the same coresetPoolIndex as each coresetPoolIndex is logically mapped to one TRP which should experience the same TA. As an example, a coresetPoolIndex of ‘0’ maps to a first TRP, and a coresetPoolIndex of ‘1’ maps to a second TRP. All CORESETs with coresetPoolIndex of ‘0’ are configured a first TA, and all CORESETs with coresetPoolIndex of ‘1’ could share a second TA.

[0112] Furthermore, in some examples, the UE is not expected to be configured with multi-DCI mTRP operation (e.g., CORESETs configured with different coresetPoolIndex) . Such behavior may facilitate support for asymmetric DL sTRP / UL mTRP because for asymmetric DL sTRP / UL mTRP, the UL only TRP cannot transmit DCI to the UE.

[0113] In some examples, when the network indicates two unified TCI states, then only one TCI state is indicated with a pathloss offset. For the indicated TCI state that is not configured with a pathloss offset, then no pathloss offset adjustment is applied to the corresponding UL transmission. For example, the pathloss offset adjustment may only be applied to the UL only TRP (s) in the DL sTRP / UL mTRP communication scheme, and the UE 101 may utilize DL reference signals on the DL sTRP to estimate pathloss for the sTRP.

[0114] In other examples, both unified TCI states are configured with a pathloss offset, and the pathloss offset for one of the unified TCI states is configured with a value of 0. For example, the TRP which also is configured for DL could be configured with a pathloss offset of 0.

[0115] Fig. 16 is a diagram illustrating example components of a device 1600 that can be employed in accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure. In some aspects, the device 1600 can include application circuitry 1602, baseband circuitry 1604, Radio Frequency (RF) circuitry 1606, front-end module (FEM) circuitry 1608, one or more antennas 1610, and power management circuitry (PMC) 1612 coupled together at least as shown. The components of the illustrated device 1600 can be included in a UE or a RAN node such as the UE 101, base station 111, or one of TRPs 112 as described, for example, with reference to Fig. 1 and throughout the present disclosure. The UE 101, base station 111, or TRPs 112 may be configured to perform asymmetric DL sTRP / UL mTRP power control, as described throughout the present disclosure. In some implementations, the device 1600 can include fewer elements (e.g., a RAN node may not utilize application circuitry 1602 and instead include a processor / controller to process IP data received from a CN, which may be a 5GC or an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) ) . In some implementations, the device 1600 can include additional elements such as, for example, memory / storage, display, camera, sensor (including one or more temperature sensors, such as a single temperature sensor, a plurality of temperature sensors at different locations in device 1600, etc. ) , or input / output (I / O) interface. In other implementations, the components described below can be included in more than one device (e.g., said circuitries can be separately included in more than one device for Cloud-RAN (C-RAN) implementations) .

[0116] The application circuitry 1602 can include one or more application processors. For example, the application circuitry 1602 can include circuitry such as, but not limited to, one or more single-core or multi-core processors. The processor (s) can include any combination of general-purpose processors and dedicated processors (e.g., graphics processors, application  processors, etc. ) . The processors can be coupled with or can include memory / storage and can be configured to execute instructions stored in the memory / storage to enable various applications or operating systems to run on the device 1600. In some implementations, processors of application circuitry 1602 can process IP data packets received from an EPC.

[0117] The baseband circuitry 1604 can include circuitry such as, but not limited to, one or more single-core or multi-core processors. The baseband circuitry 1604 can include one or more baseband processors or control logic to process baseband signals received from a receive signal path of the RF circuitry 1606 and to generate baseband signals for a transmit signal path of the RF circuitry 1606. Baseband circuitry 1604 can interface with the application circuitry 1602 for generation and processing of the baseband signals and for controlling operations of the RF circuitry 1606. For example, in some implementations, the baseband circuitry 1604 can include a 3G baseband processor 1604A, a 4G baseband processor 1604B, a 5G baseband processor 1604C, or other baseband processor (s) 1604D for other existing generations, generations in development or to be developed in the future (e.g., 2G, 6G, etc. ) .

[0118] The baseband circuitry 1604 (e.g., one or more of baseband processors 1604A-D) can handle various radio control functions that enable communication with one or more radio networks via the RF circuitry 1606. In other implementations, some or all of the functionality of baseband processors 1604A-D can be included in modules stored in the memory 1604G and executed via a Central Processing Unit (CPU) 1604E. The radio control functions can include, but are not limited to, signal modulation / demodulation, encoding / decoding, radio frequency shifting, etc. In some implementations, the baseband circuitry 1604 can include one or more audio digital signal processor (s) (DSP) 1604F.

[0119] RF circuitry 1606 can enable communication with wireless networks using modulated electromagnetic radiation through a non-solid medium. In various implementations, the RF circuitry 1606 can include switches, filters, amplifiers, etc. to facilitate the communication with the wireless network. RF circuitry 1606 can include a receive signal path which can include circuitry to down-convert RF signals received from the FEM circuitry 1608 and provide baseband signals to the baseband circuitry 1604. RF circuitry 1606 can also include a transmit signal path which can include circuitry to up-convert baseband signals provided by the baseband circuitry 1604 and provide RF output signals to the FEM circuitry 1608 for transmission.

[0120] In some implementations, the receive signal path of the RF circuitry 1606 can include mixer circuitry 1606A, amplifier circuitry 1606B and filter circuitry 1606C. In some implementations, the transmit signal path of the RF circuitry 1606 can include filter circuitry 1606C and mixer circuitry 1606A. RF circuitry 1606 can also include synthesizer circuitry  1606D for synthesizing a frequency for use by the mixer circuitry 1606A of the receive signal path and the transmit signal path.
