Abstract

The invention describes a method of controlling a wind turbine (2), which method comprises deducing the presence of ice accretion (3) on the rotor blades (20); and subsequently, in a first stage (S1), effecting an increase in rotor speed (ω) by reducing a power reference (Pref) of the wind turbine (2); and subsequently, in a second stage (S2), continually adjusting the rotor blade pitch angle (β) exclusively on the basis of the observed output power (Pobs) to maximize the output power (Pobs). The invention further describes a wind turbine (2) comprising a means of observing the output power (Pobs) of the wind turbine (2); and a wind turbine controller (22) adapted to apply the claimed method.
