Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) based communication. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) receives at least one of a first SPS configuration indicating a first set of SPS resources with a first SPS period or a second SPS configuration indicating a second set of SPS resources with a second SPS period. Moreover, the UE receives at least one control signal to activate or deactivate at least one of the first set of SPS resources or the second set of SPS resources. In addition, the UE performs communication on at least one of the first set of SPS resources or the second set of SPS resources based on the received at least one control signal. In this way, it is allowed to improve the SPS-based communication performance.

Description

SPS BASED COMMUNICATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to wireless communications, and more specifically to semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) based communication.BACKGROUND

[0002] A wireless communications system may include one or multiple network communication devices, such as base stations (BSs) , which may be otherwise known as an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. Each network communication device, such as a base station may support wireless communications for one or multiple user communication devices, which may be otherwise known as user equipment (UE) , or other suitable terminology. The wireless communications system may support wireless communications with one or multiple user communication devices by utilizing resources of the wireless communication system (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) . Additionally, the wireless communications system may support wireless communications across various radio access technologies including third generation (3G) radio access technology, fourth generation (4G) radio access technology, fifth generation (5G) radio access technology, among other suitable radio access technologies beyond 5G (e.g., sixth generation (6G) ) .

[0003] SPS is a scheduling mechanism used in wireless communication systems, specifically in LTE and 5G networks. SPS is designed to efficiently allocate radio resources (i.e., pre-configured resources on the specified subframes and frequency bands) and reduce signaling overhead for applications that require periodic and predictable transmission, such as voice and video streaming. However, enhancements on the SPS-based communication are still needed.SUMMARY

[0004] The present disclosure relates to a method, an apparatus, and a system that supports SPS-based communication. With the apparatus and method, it is allowed to improve the performance of the SPS-based communication.

[0055] FIG. 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system (or referred to as a communication network) 100 that supports SPS-based communication in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more network entities 102 (also referred to as network equipment (NE) ) , one or more UEs 104, a core network 106, and a packet data network 108. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 5G network, such as an NR network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0056] The one or more network entities 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the network entities 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a radio access network (RAN) , a base transceiver station, an access point, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. A network entity 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link 110, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0057] A non-terrestrial network (NTN) refers to a network or segments of a network using radio frequency (RF) resources on board a satellite. In the NTN scenarios, a network entity 102 may be implemented as a satellite. The network entity 102 may have full or part of an eNB / gNB on board. A network entity 102 in the form of a satellite can directly communicate to UE 104 using the NR / LTE Uu interface. The satellite may be a transparent satellite or a regenerative satellite. For NTN with a transparent satellite, a base station on earth may communicate with a UE via the satellite. For example, a communication link 110 between the satellite and the UE 104, a communication link 110 between the satellite and a base station on earth, and a communication link 116 between the base station on earth and core network 106 may be used for the NTN transparent mode. For NTN with a regenerative satellite, the base station may be on board and directly communicate with the UE. For example, a communication link 110 between the satellite and the UE 104, and a communication link 116 between the satellite (with full or part of an eNB / gNB on board) and core network 106 may be used for the NTN regenerative mode.

[0058] A network entity 102 may provide a geographic coverage area 112 for which the network entity 102 may support services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area 112. For example, a network entity 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network. In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 112 may be associated with different network entities 102. Information and signals described herein may be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits, symbols, and chips that may be referenced throughout the description may be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.

[0060] The one or more UEs 104 may be devices in different forms or having different capabilities. Some examples of UEs 104 are illustrated in FIG. 1. A UE 104 may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as the network entities 102, other UEs 104, or network equipment (e.g., the core network 106, the packet data network 108, a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, or another network equipment) , as shown in FIG. 1. Additionally, or alternatively, a UE 104 may support communication with other network entities 102 or UEs 104, which may act as relays in the wireless communications system 100.

[0061] A UE 104 may also be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link 114. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink (SL) . For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0062] A network entity 102 may support communications with the core network 106, or with another network entity 102, or both. For example, a network entity 102 may interface with the core network 106 through one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N2, or another network interface) . The network entities 102 may communicate with each other over the backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an X2, Xn, or another network interface) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., between the network entities 102) . In some other implementations, the network entities 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 106) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0063] In some implementations, a network entity 102 may be configured in a disaggregated architecture, which may be configured to utilize a protocol stack physically or logically distributed among two or more network entities 102, such as an integrated access backhaul (IAB) network, an open RAN (O-RAN) (e.g., a network configuration sponsored by the O-RAN Alliance) , or a virtualized RAN (vRAN) (e.g., a cloud RAN (C-RAN) ) . For example, a network entity 102 may include one or more of a central unit (CU) , a distributed unit (DU) , a radio unit (RU) , a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) (e.g., a Near-Real Time RIC (Near-RT RIC) , a Non-Real Time RIC (Non-RT RIC) ) , a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) system, or any combination thereof.

[0064] An RU may also be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, a remote radio head (RRH) , a remote radio unit (RRU) , or a transmission reception point (TRP) . One or more components of the network entities 102 in a disaggregated RAN architecture may be co-located, or one or more components of the network entities 102 may be located in distributed locations (e.g., separate physical locations) . In some implementations, one or more network entities 102 of a disaggregated RAN architecture may be implemented as virtual units (e.g., a virtual CU (VCU) , a virtual DU (VDU) , a virtual RU (VRU) ) .

[0065] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., Radio Resource Control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU.

[0066] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0067] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1 c, F1 u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links .

[0068] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0069] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0070] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0071] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0072] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0073] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0074] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0075] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0076] As described above, SPS is introduced to efficiently allocate radio resources (i.e., pre-configured resources on the specified subframes and frequency bands) and reduce signaling overhead for applications that require periodic and predictable transmission, such as voice and video streaming. To improve communication performance, a HARQ process may be associated with each data transmission in configured SPS resources in the SPS.

[0077] In the LTE SPS resource configuration, especially for enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) , after a semi-persistent downlink assignment is configured, the MAC entity may consider sequentially that the Nth assignment occurs in the transmission time interval (TTI) for which: (10 *SFN + subframe) = [ (10 *SFNstart time + subframestart time) + N * semiPersistSchedIntervalDL] modulo 10240, where for bandwidth reduced low complexity (BL) UEs or UEs in enhanced coverage,  SFNstart time and subframestart time refer to a system frame number (SFN) and a subframe of the first transmission of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) where configured downlink assignment was (re-) initialized, and semiPersistSchedIntervalDL is configured from a set of {10, 20, 32, 40, 64, 80, 128, 160, 320, 640} ms.

[0078] In the LTE SPS HARQ process ID determination, for configured downlink assignments, the HARQ Process ID associated with the TTI is derived from the following equation: HARQ Process ID = [floor (CURRENT_TTI / semiPersistSchedIntervalDL) ]  modulo numberOfConfSPS-Processes, where CURRENT_TTI= [ (SFN *10) + subframe number] , and for BL UEs or UEs in  enhanced coverage, CURRENT_TTI refers to the TTI where the first transmission of the repetition bundle takes place.

[0079] Moreover, in the LTE, a UE may validate an SPS physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) based on a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by an SPS radio network temporary identifier (SPS-RNTI) and special fields of the corresponding downlink control information downlink control information (DCI) format (e.g., DCI format 6-1A for an MTC UE) . Validation is achieved if all the special fields for the respective used DCI format are set according to the following Table 1: Table 1: special fields for SPS activation machine type communication (MTC) PDCCH  (MPDCCH) validation

[0080] Further, the SPS technology has been introduced in the narrowband internet-of-things (NBIoT) . In NBIoT, the UE may validate an SPS assignment narrowband PDCCH (NPDCCH) only if all the following conditions are met: - the CRC parity bits obtained for the NPDCCH payload are scrambled with the  Semi-Persistent Scheduling C-RNTI - the new data indicator field is set to '0' . - Validation is achieved if all the fields for the used DCI format N0 are set  according to the following Table 2. Table 2: special fields for DCI format N0

[0081] Uplink (UL) SPS for a buffer state report (BSR) with skipUplink is introduced for the radio resource control (RRC) connected mode in NBIoT. In a release 15 (Rel-15) SPS physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) for a BSR, the SPS resources for the BSR are configured via an RRC signaling, and the activation / release is done via a DCI scrambled by SPS cell RNTI (C-RNTI) . Thus, the UE is required to monitor two different C-RNTIs at the same time, where one is C-RNTI and the other one is SPS C-RNTI. The C-RNTI is still important to be able to “override” an SPS transmission due to an occasional transmission of higher priority. SPS C-RNTI is used for SPS retransmission and later deactivation of the SPS reources. The use of NDI for SPS is different from dynamic scheduling. The NDI is set to 0 to activate / reactivate / deactivate the SPS transmissions, and the NDI is set to 1 for a dynamic retransmission of an SPS transmission.

[0082] In release 20 (Rel-20) , an SPS narrowband PUSCH (NPUSCH) (short for SPS PUSCH) may be supported for data in addition to BSR, using SPS for voice data transmission periodically. As of now, there is no efficient approach to support the SPS-based communication considering the SPS PUSCH for BSR introduced in Rel-15 and the SPS PUSCH for data to be introduced in Rel-20. For example, how to differentiate the DCI activation or deactivation, or the (re) transmission of SPS PUSCH for BSR and SPS PUSCH for data, and how to activate or deactivate both in the same DCI need to be considered. The DCI activation / deactivation design for Rel-20 SPS needs to be considered. Moreover, how to deal with UE behaviors if two SPS PUSCHs (i.e., SPS PUSCH for BSR and SPS PUSCH for data) are configured to the UE also needs to be considered. In view of the above, how to improve the SPS-based communication efficiently, for example, considering the SPS PUSCH for BSR introduced in Rel-15 and the SPS PUSCH for data is still an open issue to be solved.

[0083] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution to resolve the above issue. In one aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a UE receives at least one of a first SPS configuration indicating a first set of SPS resources with a first SPS period or a second SPS configuration indicating a second set of SPS resources with a second SPS period. For example, the first set of SPS resources is for a voice service, and the second set of SPS resources is for BSR or SR reporting. Moreover, the UE receives at least one control signal to activate or deactivate at least one of the first set of SPS resources or the second set of SPS resources. In addition, the UE performs communication on at least one of the first set of SPS resources or the second set of SPS resources based on the received at least one control signal.

[0084] By considering the communication on at least one of the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources based on the at least one control signal, this solution can support SPS-based communication in an efficient approach. In this way, it is possible to improve the communication performance.

[0085] In the present disclosure, the expressions “an RNTI by which a control signal to activate or deactivate a set of SPS resources is scrambled” , “an RNTI associated with the activation or the deactivation of a set of SPS resources” , “an RNTI for a set of SPS resources” , and “an RNTI for data transmitted / received on a set of SPS resources” may be used interchangeably in some cases.

[0086] Reference is now made to FIG. 2, which illustrates an example process flow 200 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1, and the process 200 may involve a UE 104 and a network entity 102 as shown in FIG. 1. For example, the network entity 102 may be implemented as a satellite. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that process 200 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0087] As shown in FIG. 2, the network entity 102 transmits (205) , to the UE 104, at least one of a first SPS configuration indicating a first set of SPS resources with a first SPS period or a second SPS configuration indicating a second set of SPS resources with a second SPS period. The first SPS configuration and the second SPS configuration may be transmitted via an RRC signaling. In other words, the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources may be configured via an RRC signaling. The first set of SPS resources may be used to transmit first data, and the second set of SPS resources may be used to transmit second data. For example, the first set of SPS resources may be for a voice service, and the second set of SPS resources may be for BSR or SR reporting. As an example implementation, the first set of SPS resources may be for an SPS PUSCH for voice data, and the second set of SPS resources may be for an SPS PUSCH for a BSR. The first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources may also be used for any other purposes (for example, services) , and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0088] As shown in FIG. 2, the network entity 102 transmits (210) , to the UE 104, at least one control signal to activate or deactivate at least one of the first set of SPS resources or the second set of SPS resources. A control signal of the at least one control signal may comprise a DCI. The activation / deactivation (also referred to as release) of the first set of SPS resources and / or the second set of SPS resources may be done via a DCI scrambled by an RNTI. The RNTI may comprise a C-RNTI, also referred to as an SRS C-RNTI. Alternatively or additionally, a control signal of the at least one control signal may also be implemented by other signaling, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0089] The UE 104 and the network entity 102 then performs (215) communication on at least one of the first set of SPS resources or the second set of SPS resources based on the at least one control signal. For example, if a control signal of the at least one control signal activates the first set of SPS resources, the UE 104 or the network entity 102 may transmit or receive first data on the first set of SPS resources. As another example, if a control signal of the at least one control signal activates the second set of SPS resources, the UE 104 or the network entity 102 may transmit or receive second data on the second set of SPS resources. As a further example, if a control signal of the at least one control signal deactivates the first set of SPS resources, the UE 104 or the network entity 102 may stop transmitting or receiving the first data on the first set of SPS resources. As still a further example, if a control signal of the at least one control signal deactivates the second set of SPS resources, the UE 104 or the network entity 102 may stop transmitting or receiving the second data on the second set of SPS resources.

[0090] In some embodiments, if the second SPS configuration is not configured, an RNTI by which a control signal to activate or deactivate the first set of SPS resources is scrambled may comprise an SPS C-RNTI configured for a high layer (for example, SPS C-RNTI-B) . In other words, in this case, the RNTI associated with the activation or the deactivation of the first set of SPS resources may be the SPS C-RNTI configured for a high layer. For example, if an SPS PUSCH for a BSR is not configured, the RNTI for the first data may be the SPS C-RNTI configured for a high layer (or example, SPS C-RNTI-B) .

[0091] In some embodiments, if both the first SPS configuration and the second SPS configuration are configured, a first RNTI (for example, SPS C-RNTI-A) may be associated with the activation or the deactivation of the first set of SPS resources, and a second RNTI (for example, SPS C-RNTI-B) may be associated with the activation or the deactivation of the second set of SPS resources. In this case, the first RNTI may be different from the second RNTI The UE 104 may need to monitor a control signal (for example, an NPDCCH) scrambled by multiple C-RNTIs (for example, more than two C-RNTIs) simultaneously.

[0092] In some embodiments, if both the first SPS configuration and the second SPS configuration are configured, the same RNTI may be associated with the activation or the deactivation of the first set of SPS resources and the activation or the deactivation of the second set of SPS resources. For example, the RNTI for data may be the same as the SPS C-RNTI for the BSR (for example, SPS C-RNTI-A) . As an example, If two SPS C-RNTIs (i.e., the SPS C-RNTI for the activation / deactivation of the first set of SPS resources and the SPS C-RNTI for the activation / deactivation of the second set of SPS resources) are configured, one of these two SPS C-RNTIs may be invalid. In this case, the UE 104 may ignore one of the SPS C-RNTIs. As an embodiment, if both the SPS C-RNTI-A and the SPS C-RNTI-B are configured, the SPS C-RNTI-B may be invalid. As another example, the SPS C-RNTI for the first set of SPS resources may not be configured or the same SPS C-RNTI may be configured for both the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources. As the same RNTI (e.g., configured to be associated with the second SPS resources) is used for the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources, there may be a need for the UE 104 to determine whether to activate / deactivate the first set of or the second set of SPS resources (for example, differentiate the first data and the second data (such as the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data) . Some example implementations are discussed as follows.

[0093] In some implementations, a control signal of the at least one control signal may indicate activation or deactivation of the at least one of the first set of SPS resources or the second set of SPS resources based on first one or more fields of a plurality of fields of the control signal. Different values of the first one or more fields may indicate one of the activation or the deactivation of the first set of SPS resources, the activation or the deactivation of the second set of SPS resources, or the activation or the deactivation of both the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources. For example, the plurality of fields may comprise at least one of an NDI field, an RV field, a HARQ process number field, an MCS field, a resource assignment field, a repetition number field, or a subcarrier indication field.

[0094] In some implementations, the above first one or more fields may indicate the differentiation between the activation / deactivation of the first set of SPS resources (i.e., the control signal for the activation  / deactivation of the first set of SPS resources) and the activation / deactivation of the second set of SPS resources (i.e., the control signal for the activation / deactivation of the second set of SPS resources) . In this case, to differentiate the activation / deactivation of the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources, the validation fields for validating the control signal may be different. The validation fields may be associated with the first one or more fields for indicating the differentiation and one or more fields of the plurality of fields only used to validate this control signal. The second one or more fields may be different from the first one or more fields. In this case, the first one or more fields may be also referred to as differentiation fields and the second one or more fields may be referred to as validation fields. For example, with a DCI scrambled by the same SPS C-RNTI, to differentiate the activation / deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data, the validation fields for the BSR and the data may be different and in this case, the UE 104 may be expected to differentiate DCI activation / deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data based on the first one or more fields.

[0095] In some examples, a combination of the MCS field and the resource assignment field may indicate the activation of the first set of SPS resources or the activation of the second set of SPS resources. For example, if the MCS field = ‘0000’ and the resource assignment field = ‘000’ , the DCI may be for the activation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR; otherwise, if any of the MCS field or the resource assignment field is not ‘0’ , the DCI may be for the activation of the SPS PUSCH for the data, as shown in Table 3 and Table 4. In this case, any or some combinations of the NDI field, the RV field, and the HARQ process number field may be the validation fields for the activation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data, and the MCS field and the resource assignment field may be the differentiation field of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data. In other words, the MCS field and the resource assignment field may be the fields to distinguish between activating the SPS reousrce for the first data and activating the SPS for the second data instead of the validation fields, and it may be removed from the validation field list and thus the validation fields for the first data and the second data may be different. For example, validation field (s) for the SPS activation may be different and may be determined by an association between the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources (for example, the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data) . Table 3: DCI for SPS for BSR Activation NPDCCH Validation,  Only TBS=16bit is supported Table 4: DCI for SPS for data Activation NPDCCH Validation,  TBS other than 16bit is supported

[0096] In some examples, one field (for example, the RV field or HARQ process number field, etc. ) may indicate the activation of the first set of SPS resources or the activation of the second set of SPS resources. If the RV field is used to indicate the activation, an RV of the first data on the first set of SPS resources or an RV of the second data on the second set of SPS resources may be a default value. For example, the RV field may be used to differentiate the activation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data (for example, the RV field = ‘0’ corresponding to the activation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR; the RV field = ‘1’ corresponding to the activation of the SPS PUSCH for the data) . In this case, the RV field (i.e., RV field = ‘1’ ) may only be used for the validation for the SPS PUSCH for the data, and the RV of the data may be initialized as a default value, such as 0.

[0097] In some examples, a combination of at least two of the RV field, the MCS field, and the resource assignment field or more than 2 states of one or more of the above fields may indicate the activation of both the first set of SPS resources and the second set of SPS resources. For example, a joint field (i.e., more than one field) may be used to activate both the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data. For example, the RV field = ‘0’ , and any of the MCS field and the resource assignment field ≠ ‘0’ ) may be used to activate both the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data. In this case, the SPS resource validation time offsets for the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data may need to be considered or configured.

[0098] In some examples, at least one field of the plurality of fields may indicate the deactivation of the first set of SPS resources or the deactivation of the second set of SPS resources. Different values of the at least one field may be the differentiation field (s) to differentiate the deactivation of the first set of SPS resources or the deactivation of the second set of SPS resources. For example, the DCI deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data may be based on one or more of the RV field, the HARQ process number field, the MCS field, the resource assignment field, the repetition number field, the subcarrier indication field, etc. In this case, the one or more fields may be the differentiation field (s) of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data. Tables 5 and 6 show example values of differentiation fields to differentiate the deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data, where the RV field, the repetition number field, the subcarrier indication field, the MCS field, and the HARQ process number are used as the differentiation fields. As shown in Table 5, the repetition number field = ‘000’ , the subcarrier indication field= all ‘1’ s, the MCS field=’ 1111’ , and the HARQ process number = ‘0’ may indicate the deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR. As shown in Table 6, the repetition number field = ‘111’ , the subcarrier indication field= all ‘0’ s, the MCS field= ‘0000’ , and the HARQ process number = ‘1’ may indicate the deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the data. Table 5: DCI for SPS for BSR Deactivation NPDCCH Validation Table 6: DCI for SPS for data Deactivation NPDCCH Validation

[0099] In some examples, at least one field of the plurality of fields may indicate both the deactivation of the first set of SPS resources and the deactivation of the second set of SPS resources. For example, one field or joint fields may be used to deactivate both the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data. As an embodiment, the MCS field = ‘1100’ and the repetition number = ‘101’ may indicate both the deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the data.

[0100] In some implementations, a first control signal of the at least one control signal to activate or deactivate the first set of SPS resources and a second control signal of the at least one control signal to activate or deactivate the second set of SPS resources may be associated with different search spaces (for example, UE-specific search spaces, such as UE-specific search space 1 and UE-specific search space 2) . For example, to differentiate the activation / deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the activation / deactivation of the SPS PUSCH for the data, the search spaces for DCIs associated with the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data may be different. For example, the NPDCCH search space (i.e., UE-specific search space) may be periodic. The period T may be determined as T = Rmax *G, where G is determined by a higher layer, Rmax is the maximum number of NPDCCH repetitions. The starting subframe of each period satisfies the following condition: subframe number mod T = αT.

[0101] In some implementations, a first control signal of the at least one control signal to activate or deactivate the first set of SPS resources and a second control signal of the at least one control signal to activate or deactivate the second set of SPS resources may be associated with different monitoring occasions in the same search space from the perspective of the UE 104 (in other words, different transmitting occasions in the same search space from the perspective of the network entity 102) . In other words, different monitoring occasions in the same search space may indicate whether to activate / deactivate the first set of or the second set of SPS resources. Different monitoring occasions may differentiate the first data and the second data (such as the SPS PUSCH for the BSR and the SPS PUSCH for the data) . For example, for the monitoring occasions associated with the second data (for example, the SPS PUSCH for the BSR) , the UE 104 may monitor the NPDCCH scrambled by C-RNTI and SPS C-RNTI-A on the UE search space, and for the monitoring occasions associated with the first data (for example, the SPS PUSCH for the data) , the UE 104 may monitor the NPDCCH scrambled by C-RNTI and SPS C-RNTI-B on the UE search space.

[0102] The monitoring occasions may be determined based on at least one of a starting subframe of a control signal monitoring occasion, a period parameter (for example, denoted as TBSR) , and an offset parameter (for example, denoted as X) . For example, for the same NPDCCH search space determined as described above, For example, for a monitoring occasion x, if the condition of (starting subframe number / T) mod (TBSR  / T) =X is satisfied, the monitoring occasion x is associated with the second data (for example, the SPS PUSCH for BSR) , otherwise the monitoring occasion x may be associated with the first data (for example, the SPS PUSCH for data) , where TBSR and X may be configured by a higher layer, for example, TBSR=4T, X=0.

[0103] FIG. 3A illustrates an illustration of monitoring occasion determination. As shown in FIG. 3A, TBSR is configured as 4T. Subframes #1 and #5 are associated with the SPS for the BSR, and Subframes #2 to #4 are associated with the SPS for the data. FIG. 3B illustrates example communication considering the monitoring occasion determination as shown in FIG, 3A. As shown in FIG. 3B, at the monitoring occasion (MO) associated with the SPS for the BSR, an NPDCCH Activation is received, and thus the resources for the NPUSCH for the BSRs are activated. The BSRs are transmitted with its periodicity. The NPDCCH indicating the retransmission of the BSR may be transmitted at the MO associated with the SPS for the BSR, and the corresponding retransmission may be done accordingly. Likewise, at the MO associated with the SPS for the data, an NPDCCH Activation is received, and thus the resources for the narrowband PUSCH (NPUSCH) for the data are activated. The data is transmitted periodicly. The NPDCCH indicating the retransmission of the data may be transmitted at the MO associated with the SPS for the data, and the corresponding retransmission may be done accordingly.

[0104] In some embodiments, the uplink resource for the first data or the second data may follow the legacy mechanism. For example, the PUSCH resource for the data may be configured by a higher layer as the legacy mechanism. After a semi-persistent uplink assignment is configured, the MAC entity may consider sequentially that the Nth assignment occurs in the TTI for which: (10 *SFN + subframe) = [ (10 *SFNstart time + subframestart time) + N * semiPersistSchedIntervalUL] modulo 10240, where SFNstart time and subframestart time refer to a SFN and a subframe of the first  transmission of the PDSCH where the configured uplink assignment was (re-) initialized, and semiPersistSchedIntervalUL is configured from a set of {10, 20, 32, 40, 64, 80, 128, 160, 320, 640} ms.

[0105] In some implementations, if a control signal of the at least one control signal indicates activation of the first set of SPS resources, the second set of SPS resources may be determined as deactivated. In other words, if the first set of SPS resources is activated by the DCI, the second set of SPS resources may be deactivated automatically. The control signal to activate the first set of SPS resources may be considered as the control signal to deactivate the second set of SPS resources. The second data may be transmitted based on the first set of resources for the first data. For example, in order to avoid the SPS PUSCH resource / mechanism collision for the BSR and the data and reduce the NPDCCH scheduling overhead (i.e., save the overhead of the deactivation DCI for the SPS for the BSR) , if the SPS PUSCH resources for the data is activated by the DCI, the SPS PUSCH resources for the BSR may be deactivated automatically. The Activation DCI for the SPS PUSCH for the data may also be the deactivation DCI for the SPS PUSCH for the BSR. The SR / BSR reporting may be done by the SPS PUSCH for the data (for example, with a higher transport block size (TBS) and a higher MCS) . FIG. 3C illustrates example communication. As shown in FIG. 3C, after receiving the NPDCCH Deactivation for the SPS for the data (in other words, after the SPS for the data) , the SPS for the BSR is deactivated automatically.

[0106] In some embodiments, the second data may be associated with a first HARQ process number (for example, HARQ process #0) , and the first data may be associated with a second HARQ process number (for example, HARQ process #1) . For example, HARQ process #0 may be used for each transmission occasion for the SPS PUSCH for the BSR, and HARQ process #1 may always be used for each transmission occasion for the SPS PUSCH for the data.

[0107] In some embodiments, the second data may be associated with a first HARQ process number (for example, HARQ process #0) , and a HARQ process number associated with the first data may be determined based on a starting subframe of the first data. For example, for configured uplink resources (such as the SPS PUSCH for the data) , the HARQ Process ID associated with the TTI may derived from the following equation: HARQ Process ID = [floor (CURRENT_TTI / semiPersistSchedIntervalUL) ]  modulo numberOfConfSPS-Processes where CURRENT_TTI= [ (SFN *10) + subframe number] , and CURRENT_TTI refers to  the TTI where the first transmission of the repetition bundle takes place, and numberOfConfSPS-Processes = 2 for multiple HARQ process configured.

[0108] Alternatively or additionally, if multiple transport blocks (TBs) triggered by a single DCI are supported, the HARQ process number for each SPS period for the first data may be fixed as HARQ process #0 and HARQ process #1 respectively.

[0109] FIG. 3D illustrates example communication considering the HARQ mechanism. As shown in FIG. 3D, HARQ process #0 is used for each transmission occasion for the SPS PUSCH for the BSR, and HARQ process #0 and #1 are used for neighboring transmission occasions for the SPS PUSCH for the data respectively.

[0110] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may transmit new data in the subsequent SPS PUSCH (for example, NPUSCH) resources unless a PDCCH (for example, NPDCCH) scheduling a retransmission or dynamic override of the SPS resources has been received. The UE 104 may transmit new data (for example, the BSR or the data) in the subsequence SPS PUSCH resources (for example, the resources for the BSR or data ) for the same HARQ process.

[0111] In some embodiments, a retransmission of the first data or the second data with a HARQ process may be associated with which one of an SPS resource for an initial transmission of the first data with the HARQ process or an SPS resource for an initial transmission of the first data with the HARQ process is latest. For example, the retransmission for the first HARQ process number (for example, HARQ process #0) may be associated with the initial transmission on the latest SPS PUSCH resource associated with the first HARQ process number, for example, the resource for the first data (for example, the voice data) or the second data (for example, the BSR) . The retransmission for a second HARQ process number (for example, HARQ process #1) may be associated with the initial transmission on the SPS PUSCH resource for the first data. FIG. 3E illustrates example communication considering the HARQ process number determination for the retransmission. As shown in FIG. 3E, regarding the retransmission for the BSR after 40ms, as the latest PUSCH resource associated with the HARQ#0 is the PUSCH resource for the BSR, the retransmission using the HARQ#0 is for the retransmission for the BSR. Regarding the retransmission for the data after 65ms, as the latest PUSCH resource associated with the HARQ#0 is the PUSCH resource for the data, the retransmission using the HARQ#0 is for the retransmission for the data.

[0112] In some embodiments, a first SPS resource of the first set of SPS resources and a second SPS resource of the second set of SPS resources may be overlapped in a time domain. The resource collision may include a partial or full overlap of SPS resources in the time domain. In this case, the UE 104 may determine whether to transmit or receive the first data on the first SPS resource or to transmit or receive the second data on the second SPS resource in multiple approaches. For example, when SPS resources collide, the UE 104 may determine whether to transmit or receive the first data on the first SPS resource or to transmit or receive the second data on the second SPS resource based on a higher layer parameter indication from the network entity 102. The UE 104 may transmit the NPUSCH in the SPS resource in either the SPS resource for the BSR or the SPS resource for the data based on a higher layer parameter indication. As another example, when SPS resources collide, whether to transmit or receive the first data on the first SPS resource or to transmit or receive the second data on the second SPS resource may be determined according to a fixed communication principle. The fixed communication principle may be to transmit the first data on the first SPS resource always. As a further example, when SPS resources collide, whether to transmit or receive the first data on the first SPS resource or to transmit or receive the second data on the second SPS resource may be determined based on which one of a starting frame of the first SPS resource and a starting frame of the second SPS resource is earlier. Alternatively or additionally, when SPS resources collide, whether to transmit or receive the first data on the first SPS resource or to transmit or receive the second data on the second SPS resource may be up to UE implementation.

[0113] According to some embodiments with reference to FIGS. 2 to 3E, it is allowed to support SPS-based communication in an efficient approach. Thus, it is possible to improve the performance of the SPS-based communication.
