Abstract

There is presented an apparatus comprising: an elongate first waveguide for propagating EM radiation; the first waveguide comprising a side surface. An elongate second waveguide is for propagating EM radiation. The second waveguide comprises at least: a first portion comprising a side surface, and an elongate second portion extending from the first portion and comprising a side surface. The side surface of the elongate first waveguide contacts and Van der Waal bonds to at least a portion of the side surface of the second portion of the second waveguide. A body contacts the side surface of the first portion of the second waveguide. The body prevents the movement of the said first portion in a direction perpendicular to the elongate length of the second waveguide. The elongate second portion of the second waveguide comprising: a first point from where it joins the first portion and extends away and proud from the body in a first direction; and, a second point from where it begins to extend away and proud from the side surface of the first waveguide in a second direction opposite the first direction. The first point and second point spaced apart by at least 500 micrometres.
