Description

[0001] A LIQUID HERBICIDAL COMPOSITION

[0002] Field of invention

[0003] The present invention relates to a liquid herbicidal composition. In particular, the present invention relates to a liquid herbicidal composition comprising triazolone herbicide and at least one co-herbicide selected from triketone herbicide and chloroacetamide herbicide; a process for preparing said composition; and a method for controlling weeds using the same.

[0004] Background

[0005] Weeds largely affect the yield of crops by competing for air, water, sunlight, and nutrients. The weed-crop competition is critical for crop development, herbicides play an important role in weed control on agricultural and non-agricultural surfaces. It is well known that effective weed control improves crop yield significantly. Many a time farmers face complex weed situations where weeds may not be controlled with just one herbicide. In such a scenario combination of two or more herbicides is required as it provides a broader spectrum of control and resistance management. However, formulation development for combinations of different active ingredients is challenging, as each active ingredient exhibits different physicochemical properties such as solubility, density, polymorphism, and thermal stability, and may have incompatibility with other active ingredients. Often it requires a large number of experiments to come up with a stable formulation that overcomes the aforementioned challenges.

[0006] Triazolone herbicides, triketone herbicides, and chloroacetamide herbicides are well known systemic herbicides and provide desirable results when used together in a combination.

[0007] US11917994 discloses a tank mixture comprising amicarbazone, mesotrione, and s-metolachlor. However, said patent does not disclose a stable premix composition comprising triazolone herbicide, triketone herbicides, and chloroacetamide herbicide. However, premix compositions are preferred over tank mixes for the convenience they provide in handling, transportation, and storage. The premix composition reduces environmental impact, requires lower active substance doses, and shows consistent efficacy. The development of premix compositions having two or more active ingredients has its challenges, such as the incompatibility of active ingredients leading to precipitation, agglomerated particles or crystals formation, which may choke the nozzle of the applicator while applying the composition, or the composition when sprayed, is not uniformly applied. Inventors of the present invention have overcome all the challenges discussed above and have developed a liquid herbicidal composition comprising triazolone herbicide and at least one coherbicide that exhibits storage stability.

Step b) Preparation of aqueous phase:

[0347] The required quantity of water and at least one agrochemical excipient selected from dispersant, emulsifier, anti-settling agent, defoaming agent, anti-freezing agent, thickening agent, biocide etc. are mixed together to obtain an aqueous phase. Optionally, required quantity of triketone herbicide such as mesotrione is also added to the aqueous phase. The mixture obtained is milled to obtain desired particle size.

[0348] Step c) Mixing oil phase with aqueous phase

[0349] The oil phase and aqueous phase obtained in step a) and b), respectively, were mixed together to obtain a suspoemulsion. To this suspoemulsion was then added thickening solution containing a thickening agent, humectant and water. Examples 1, 2 and 3 as provided in table 1 below are prepared according to general procedure provided above. Comparative example 1 is also prepared according to general procedure except for benzyl alcohol is not used in step a) of the process.
