Abstract

The invention refers to a method of preparing a waterborne acrylic copolymer dispersion from at least one hydrophobic building block by emulsion polymerization. Said method may be a batch or semicontinuous process and comprises the copolymerization of at least one (meth)acrylate monomer and at least one building block (i.e., a monomer or an oligomer) bearing hydrophobic moiety by emulsion polymerization in the presence of a mixture of surfactants comprising at least one ≥ C8 alkyl sulphate and at least one sulfosuccinate. The invention also refers to the waterborne acrylic copolymer dispersion obtained from that process, and their use as a binder, preferably in the manufacture of coatings, adhesives or inks.
