AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Catheters often face difficulties in maintaining blood withdrawal capability over extended periods due to issues like vein narrowing, kinking, and blockages, making them less effective for blood sampling during the catheter dwell period.

Method used

A delivery device comprising a syringe with a plunger and a guidewire channel, allowing the guidewire to be advanced distally through the catheter assembly, with a flexible housing to prevent contact with flushing liquid and vent holes to manage air, facilitating guidewire access past obstructions.

Benefits of technology

Enhances the ability to access the vascular system, overcoming catheter-related obstructions and extending the catheter's dwell period for effective blood collection.

Abstract

A delivery device 10 for delivering a guidewire 22 into a catheter assembly includes a syringe 12, which includes a barrel 14 and a plunger 16 movable within the barrel. The plunger may include a handle 19 and a stopper 18 coupled to a distal end of the handle. The stopper may include a channel. In response to depression of the plunger, the guidewire is moved through the channel and a first end of the guidewire may be advanced in the distal direction. A second end of the guidewire may be fixed.
