1 / 9 Descriptive report for the invention patent: "SURGICAL FORCEPS FOR GRASPING, HANDLING AND SUTURING CARTILAGE GRAFTS IN RHINOPLASTY." FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] This document belongs to the field of health science, more specifically to the field of equipment for surgical procedures, and presents a forceps developed to assist in the precise cutting process of cartilage grafts, allowing fine adjustment of grip and being easily manipulated together with other simple forceps and surgical instruments. DESCRIPTION OF THE STATE OF THE ART
[002] US patent 2016331391 A1 is a forceps derived from Adson-Brown, and features a groove on the tissue gripping surface. The difference of this invention compared to the prior art is the ease of performing surgical sutures due to the groove that helps hold the surgical needle. However, this document does not address the repair of tissue grafts, such as skin and cartilage. The Hammerhead forceps for rhinoplasty contained in the present invention has a circular orifice with a groove on each side of the head, which stabilizes the contents of the grip during the passage of surgical suture and facilitates its removal through the groove.
[003] CN 203291070 presents a surgical instrument of the forceps type that is useful in rhinoplasty. The main use of this guide forceps is to assist in the insertion of nasal implants, however, the author does not mention its usefulness in the process of shaping the graft and the implant. [004] US 2017340404 A1 is a surgical forceps whose main attribute is the possibility of reusing its component. The head portion is replaceable, being adapted to the contact surface of a new piece. The author proposes the possibility of cost savings with partial replacement of the forceps. There is no relation to the graft molding process in rhinoplasty.
[005] US 5112353 A is a rhinoplasty implant intended to improve the aesthetic contour of the nose, not being a surgical instrument. The Hammerhead Forceps of the present invention can be used to handle this nasal implant, if needed, for molding and adjusting its size and shape.
[006] The Applicant conceived, tested and incorporated the present invention in order to overcome the shortcomings of the prior art and obtain the purposes and advantages mentioned above and explained below. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[007] The present invention is presented and characterized in the independent claims, while the dependent claims describe other features of the invention or embodiments relating to the main inventive idea.
[008] The present invention provides a surgical graft-holder type clamp with a head and a body, containing upper orifices and lateral slits in the head. The head is rectangular in shape and is connected to the body through its posterior portion. Furthermore, the rectangular head is composed of an upper part and a lower part which, together, make up the clamp element. [012] One objective of the present invention is to provide a forceps developed to assist in the precise cutting process of cartilage grafts.
[013] Another objective of the present invention is to present a surgical instrument of the forceps type that allows fine adjustment of grip, easily manipulated together with other simple surgical forceps.
[014] Another objective of the present invention is to provide an instrument that allows for the easy insertion of repair wire, as well as its easy removal, without loss of gripping force. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

[022] We will now refer in detail to the various embodiments of the present invention, of which one or more examples are shown in the accompanying drawings. Each example is provided by way of illustration of the present invention and should not be understood as a limitation of this invention. For example, the features presented or described insofar as they form part of one embodiment may be adopted in (or be associated with) other embodiments to produce another embodiment. It is understood that the present invention includes all such modifications and variants.
[023] There is a vast array of surgical forceps, with shapes and specifications depending on the intended application. For example, dissecting forceps with a delicate tip should not be used on the skin. These precautions regarding the use of appropriate surgical instruments should be taken to minimize tissue trauma.
[024] Furthermore, the development of instrumentation specifically designed for specific applications makes the surgical procedure safer, optimizing the steps. For example, forceps with a textured gripping surface prevent the tissue contained therein from slipping during the procedure.
[025] Adson's clamps are used to hold a Petition 870210113806, dated 07 / 12 / 2021, page 13 / 26 6 / 9 part of the tissue so that other instruments, such as scalpels and scissors, can work more easily, and may come in different sizes, with an active tip of the serrated or smooth type.
[026] With the inner surface of its gripping part having transverse grooves, the Kocher forceps differs from others by having a "rat tooth" at its tip. This makes its ability to grip tissues much greater, but increases the trauma caused. It is available in straight and curved shapes, and in various sizes.
[027] Allis forceps are generally used on coarse tissues or for muscle fixation. In addition, they are also used on tissues that will undergo excision, that is, that will be removed from the body.
[028] The present invention provides a surgical clamp for use with other surgical equipment such as, for example, scalpels, tissue clamps, needle holders, scissors and any other necessary instruments.
[029] The surgical forceps presented here, called hammerhead forceps, has a body (8) and a head (7a, 7b), the head (7a, 7b) being rectangular in shape, as can be seen in Figure 1. Thus, visually, the forceps presented here resemble a “hammerhead shark”.
[030] The head (7a, 7b) corresponds to the gripping element, being composed of an upper portion (7a) and a lower portion (7b). In one embodiment, the upper (7a) and lower (7b) portions are identical, being mirror images of each other. In another embodiment, the upper (7a) and lower (7b) portions differ only by the calibrated ruler. [031] The upper part (7a) has a set of grooves (5) located on the lower surface, in the gripping region, and the lower part (7b) has a set of grooves (5) located on the upper surface, in the gripping region. The sets of grooves (5) of the upper (7a) and lower (7b) portions face each other, and are intended to promote better crimping and prevent slippage of the tissue secured therein. For example, such grooves (5) allow holding, cutting and / or removing a graft without it slipping.
[032] The upper part (7a) and the lower part (7b) each have a guide edge (1) located on the anterior portion of the head (7a, 7b), and this guide edge (1) allows the tissue constricted there to be cut using, for example, a scalpel, and ensures that such a cut is made in a straight line (Figure 2).
[033] The upper part (7a) and the lower part (7b) each have a set of through holes (3), the set of through holes (3) of the upper portion (7a) being concordant with the set of through holes (3) of the lower portion (7b). These holes (3) allow, for example, the professional performing the surgery to see the pinched contents (Figure 4).
[034] It can also be observed that both the upper portion (7a) and the lower portion (7b) have side slots (4). Each side slot (4) is a slot, preferably positioned parallel to the guide (1). In different embodiments, this side slot (4) is positioned at an angle to the guide (1). In one embodiment, each portion of the hole (2) corresponds to ¼ of a sphere. Through this space, for example, the tip of an auxiliary forceps can be brought close for handling the graft material (Figure 3).
[036] The lower portion of the upper part (7a) of the rectangular head (7a, 7b) has a set of grooves (6), wherein the set of grooves (6) corresponds to a calibrated ruler. In one embodiment, the upper portion of the lower part (7b) of the rectangular head (7a, 7b) has a set of grooves (6), wherein the set of grooves (6) corresponds to a calibrated ruler. Such a calibrated ruler may be made in millimeter or inch scale, preferably in millimeter scale. 5. Surgical forceps, according to claim 1, characterized in that the upper portion of the lower part (7b) of the rectangular head (7a, 7b) has a set of grooves (6), wherein the set of grooves (6) corresponds to a calibrated ruler.
6. Surgical forceps, according to any of the Petition 870210113806, dated 07 / 12 / 2021, page 7 / 26 3 / 3 claims 4 or 5, characterized in that the set of grooves (6) is calibrated according to a millimeter ruler.
