[0019] The following detailed description shows embodiments of the present disclosure by way of example and not limitation. This description clearly enables one skilled in the art to make and use the present disclosure, describing several embodiments, adaptations, variations, substitutions and uses of the present disclosure, including what is currently believed to be the best mode of carrying out the present disclosure. These systems and methods are used to improve the accuracy of automatic delivery systems and provide additional delivery confirmation by using network data.
[0020] In an example embodiment, a delivery verification computer device (also referred to as a delivery verification server) includes a processor in communication with a memory. The verification computer device communicates with a merchant and provides delivery services for the merchant.
[0021] In an example embodiment, a delivery verification server receives an online order placed by a cardholder. The online order originates from a cardholder computer device used by the cardholder to place the order. In an example embodiment, the online order is a purchase order from a merchant for delivery of one or more products to the cardholder at a delivery address. The online order also includes network information for a wireless network associated with the delivery address.
[0022] In an example embodiment, a cardholder uses a cardholder computer device to place an online order using an e-commerce website associated with a merchant. The cardholder computer device is connected to a cardholder router so that the cardholder router routes information and data from the cardholder computer device to the Internet. In some embodiments, the cardholder computer device is wirelessly connected to the cardholder router via a wireless network associated with the cardholder router. In other embodiments, the cardholder computer device is connected to the cardholder router via a wired connection. In some embodiments, at least one computer device associated with the online order is capable of determining network information about the wireless network based on a message sent from the cardholder computer device to a website associated with the merchant. In some embodiments, the cardholder router includes a wireless access point for wirelessly connecting to the computer device. In other embodiments, the cardholder router and the wireless access point are separate devices, where the cardholder router and the wireless access point are connected via a computer network.
[0023] In some embodiments, the network information is captured by the payment processing network as part of the authentication process. In other embodiments, the network information is captured by the merchant as part of the ordering process. The payment processing network or the merchant stores the network information in a database. In some embodiments, the delivery verification server receives the network information directly from the cardholder or the merchant. In other embodiments, the delivery verification server receives the online order and retrieves the network information from the database. In some embodiments, the network information is stored based on previous online orders from the cardholder.
[0024] In some embodiments, the network information also includes an Internet Protocol (IP) address associated with at least one of a cardholder computer device, a cardholder router, and a wireless access point. In these embodiments, the delivery verification server can verify the delivery address based on the IP address, where the IP address is associated with the physical area. In an example embodiment, the verification is performed by the payment processing network as part of the authentication / authorization process.
[0025] In an example embodiment, the network information includes information for logging into a wireless network associated with the cardholder router. In some embodiments, the network information may include, but is not limited to, a service set identifier (SSID) of the wireless network, one or more IP addresses associated with the wireless network, a user name and password for accessing the wireless network, and a one-time password for accessing the wireless network.
[0026] In an example embodiment, the delivery verification server configures the delivery device based on the network information and the delivery address. The delivery device can be an automatic delivery device, such as an aerial drone. The delivery device can also be a ground-based drone or an autonomous vehicle. For example, the delivery verification server can send the delivery address and the SSID of the wireless network to the delivery device, thereby configuring the delivery device to travel to the delivery address and scan the wireless using the SSID provided in the network information when the delivery device is within a predetermined distance of the delivery address. Once the delivery device is configured, the delivery device transports one or more products associated with the online order to the delivery address. If the delivery device is able to connect to the wireless network, the delivery device delivers one or more products to the delivery address.
[0027] In an example embodiment, a delivery verification server receives a delivery confirmation message from a delivery device. The delivery confirmation message is sent from the delivery device to a cardholder router via a wireless network. The cardholder router routes the delivery confirmation message to the delivery verification server via the Internet. The delivery confirmation message includes routing information indicating that the delivery confirmation message is sent via a wireless network associated with a delivery address. In an example embodiment, the delivery device connects to the wireless network by using the network information to connect to the cardholder router via the wireless network.
[0028] In some other embodiments, the delivery verification server sends a request to add the delivery device to the trusted device list of the wireless network. In some of these embodiments, the delivery verification server sends a request to the cardholder computer device for the cardholder to add to the trusted device list of the cardholder router. In other embodiments, the request includes a link to automatically add the delivery device to the trusted device list stored by the cardholder router. In some of these embodiments, the request includes the media access control (MAC) address of the delivery device. As part of configuring the delivery device, the delivery verification server configures the delivery device so that the MAC address is included in the request. In still other embodiments, the MAC address is added to the trusted device list, and whenever the delivery device delivers to the delivery address, the delivery device is configured to use the MAC address. In some embodiments, multiple delivery devices are associated with the delivery verification server. Each time the delivery device is selected to deliver a package, the delivery device is reconfigured for the specific delivery.
[0029] In those embodiments where the cardholder router and the wireless access point are separate devices, the wireless access point will maintain a list of trusted devices. Additionally, the delivery device will attempt to wirelessly connect to the wireless access point. Additionally, a delivery confirmation message is routed from the delivery device through the wireless access point to the cardholder router, where the cardholder router routes the delivery confirmation message to the delivery verification server.
[0030] In some embodiments, the delivery device cannot connect to the wireless network at the delivery address. In these embodiments, the delivery device sends a no connection message to the delivery verification server indicating that the delivery device cannot connect to the wireless network. In some embodiments, the no connection message may indicate that the delivery device cannot detect the network. In these embodiments, the delivery verification server may instruct the delivery device not to complete the delivery. In other embodiments, the no connection message may include the signal strength of the wireless network detected by the delivery device. The delivery verification server may compare the received signal strength with a predetermined threshold. If the signal strength exceeds the predetermined threshold, the delivery verification server may determine that the delivery device is at the correct location and may instruct the delivery device to complete the delivery, even though the delivery device cannot access the wireless network.
[0031] In some further embodiments, the delivery verification server may store the delivery confirmation message and all routing data associated therewith in a database. The delivery verification server may send a delivery confirmation message to the merchant indicating that the delivery is complete and providing a level of assurance that one or more products in the online order are delivered to the correct address. In some embodiments, the delivery confirmation message also includes a one-time code that is also stored in the database to confirm that the online order is delivered to the correct location.
[0032] In some embodiments, the delivery device is configured to scan for wireless signals. The delivery device is configured to determine an IP address associated with the wireless network and compare the IP address with the network information. If the IP addresses match, the delivery device can be configured to deliver the package without logging onto the wireless network.

[0043] Figure 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating an example multi-party transaction card industry system 120 for enabling card payment transactions, where merchants 124 and card issuers 130 do not need to have a one-to-one relationship. The embodiments described herein may involve a transaction card system, such as using An interchange network's credit card payment system. MasterCard A set of proprietary communication standards released by MasterCard for exchanging financial transaction data and (MasterCard is a registered trademark of MasterCard International Inc., located in Purchase, New York).
[0044] In a typical transaction card system, a financial institution, referred to as an "issuer," issues a transaction card, such as a credit card, or an electronic payment account identifier to a consumer or cardholder 122, who uses the transaction card to pay for purchases from a merchant 124. In order to accept payments using a transaction card, the merchant 124 typically must establish an account with a financial institution that is part of the financial payment system. The financial institution is typically referred to as a "merchant bank," "acquirer bank," or "acquirer." When the cardholder 122 pays for the purchase using the transaction card, the merchant 124 requests authorization for the purchase amount from the merchant bank 126. The request may be performed over the telephone, but is typically performed using a point-of-sale terminal that reads the cardholder's 122 account information from a magnetic stripe, chip, or raised characters on the transaction card and communicates electronically with a transaction processing computer at the merchant bank 126. Alternatively, the merchant bank 126 may authorize a third party to perform transaction processing on the merchant bank's behalf. In this case, the point-of-sale terminal would be configured to communicate with the third party. Such a third party is typically referred to as a "merchant processor," "acquirer processor," or "third-party processor."
[0045] Using the switching network 128, the computer of the merchant bank 126 or the merchant processor will communicate with the computer of the issuer bank 130 to determine whether the account 132 of the cardholder 122 is in good standing and whether the purchase is covered by the available credit of the cardholder 122. Based on these determinations, the request for authorization will be denied or accepted. If the request is accepted, an authorization code is issued to the merchant 124.
[0046] When the request for authorization is accepted, the available credit limit of the cardholder's 122 account 132 is reduced. Typically, the charge for a payment card transaction is not immediately posted to the cardholder's 122 account 132 because credit cards such as MasterCard The bank card associations of the United States have issued rules that do not allow merchants 124 to collect or "capture" transactions before goods are shipped or services are delivered. However, for at least some debit card transactions, a charge may be posted at the time of the transaction. When the merchant 124 ships or delivers the goods or services, the merchant 124 captures the transaction through an appropriate data entry process, such as at a point-of-sale terminal. This may include transactions that are approved for standard retail purchases bundled every day. If the cardholder 122 cancels the transaction before the transaction is captured, a "void" is generated. If the cardholder 122 returns the goods after the transaction has been captured, a "credit" is generated. The interchange network 128 and / or the issuing bank 130 stores the transaction card information (such as the category of merchant, the merchant identifier, the location where the transaction was completed, the amount purchased, the date and time of the transaction) in the database 220 (in Figure 2 ).
[0047] After a purchase has been made, a clearing process occurs to transfer additional transaction data related to the purchase between the transaction parties, such as the merchant bank 126, the exchange network 128, and the issuer bank 130. More specifically, during and / or after the clearing process, additional data, such as the time of purchase, the merchant name, the type of merchant, purchase information, cardholder account information, the type of transaction, itinerary information, information about the purchased items and / or services, and / or other suitable information, is associated with the transaction and sent between the transaction parties as transaction data and may be stored by any of the parties to the transaction. In an example embodiment, when the cardholder 122 purchases travel, such as airline tickets, hotel stays, and / or rental cars, at least a portion of the itinerary information is sent as transaction data during the clearing process. When the exchange network 128 receives the itinerary information, the exchange network 128 routes the itinerary information to the database 220.
[0048] For debit card transactions, when the issuer approves the request for personal identification number (PIN) authorization, the cardholder's account 132 is debited. Typically, the charge is immediately posted to the cardholder's account 132. The payment card association then sends the approval to the acquiring processor for dispensing goods / services or information, or in the case of an automated teller machine (ATM), cash.
[0049] After the transaction is authorized and cleared, the transaction is settled between the merchant 124, the merchant bank 126, and the issuer bank 130. Settlement refers to the transfer of financial data or funds between the merchant's 124 account, the merchant bank 126, and the issuer bank 130 related to the transaction. Typically, transactions are captured and accumulated into "batches" that are settled as a group. More specifically, transactions are typically settled between the issuer bank 130 and the switching network 128, and then between the switching network 128 and the merchant bank 126, and then between the merchant bank 126 and the merchant 124.
[0050] Figure 2is a simplified block diagram of an example system 200 for using network data in an automatic delivery system. In an example embodiment, system 200 may be used to perform a card payment transaction received as part of processing a cardholder transaction associated with an order for a product for delivery. Additionally, system 200 is a product delivery system that includes a delivery verification computer device 215 (also referred to as a delivery verification server 215) configured to use network data to confirm automatic delivery of a product. As described in more detail below, delivery verification server 215 is configured to: receive an online order originating from cardholder computer device 205, wherein the online order includes a delivery address and network information of a wireless network associated with the delivery address; configure delivery device 225 based on the network information and the delivery address; and receive a delivery confirmation message from delivery device 225 sent over a wireless network associated with the delivery address, wherein delivery device 225 is connected to the wireless network based on the network information.
[0051] In an example embodiment, the cardholder computer device 205 is a computer that includes a web browser or software application to enable the cardholder computer device 205 to access the delivery verification server 215 using the Internet. More specifically, the cardholder computer device 205 is communicatively coupled to the Internet through a number of interfaces, including but not limited to at least one of: a network (such as the Internet, a local area network (LAN), a wide area network (WAN), or an integrated services digital network (ISDN)), a dial-up connection, a digital subscriber line (DSL), a cellular telephone connection, and a cable modem. The cardholder computer device 205 can be any device capable of accessing the Internet, including but not limited to a desktop computer, a laptop computer, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a cellular phone, a smart phone, a tablet computer, a phablet, or other web-based connectable device. In an example embodiment, the cardholder 122 (on Figure 1 ) using the cardholder computer device 205 to access the merchant 124 (in Figure 1 ) to place an order and check the status of the order.
[0052] The cardholder router 210 is associated with the cardholder computer device 205. In an example embodiment, the cardholder router 210 is a wireless router, such as a Wi-Fi router. The cardholder router 210 projects a wireless network that allows computer devices such as the cardholder computer device 205 to wirelessly connect to the cardholder router 210. In an example embodiment, the cardholder router 205 is a gateway between the cardholder computer device 205 and the Internet. In some embodiments, the cardholder router 210 is a router at the cardholder's residence. In other embodiments, the cardholder router 210 is a router at the cardholder's business location. In an example embodiment, the cardholder router 210 provides wireless Internet access at a location to which the cardholder 122 desires to deliver one or more products. In an example embodiment, the cardholder router 210 is configured to operate in a wireless LAN (WLAN) only or in a hybrid wired / wireless network. In an example embodiment, the cardholder router 210 broadcasts its service set identifier (SSID). The cardholder router 210 is also configured to receive access requests from computer devices such as the cardholder computer device 205. In some embodiments, the cardholder router 210 broadcasts an encrypted wireless network and requires user authentication, such as a username and password, before providing access. In these embodiments, the cardholder router 210 may encrypt using WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA2-PSK, or any other encryption method. In further embodiments, the cardholder router 210 only grants access to a predetermined list of computer devices, also referred to as a trusted device list. The list may be updated by the cardholder 122 or other users who may access the cardholder router 210.
[0053] Although in the example embodiment, the cardholder router 210 includes a wireless access point, in other embodiments, the cardholder router 210 is separate from the wireless access point. In these embodiments, the cardholder router 210 and the wireless access point communicate via one or more computer networks. As separate devices, the cardholder router 210 and the wireless access point will have different IP addresses and different MAC addresses. In some further embodiments, the cardholder router 210 can be wirelessly connected to the wireless access point as a client device. In still other embodiments, the MAC address is added to the trusted device list, and each time the delivery device 225 delivers to the delivery address, the delivery device 225 is configured to use the MAC address. In some embodiments, multiple delivery devices 225 are associated with the delivery verification server 215. Each time a delivery device 225 is selected to deliver a package, the delivery device 225 is reconfigured for that particular delivery.
[0077] In those embodiments where the cardholder router 210 and the wireless access point are separate devices, the wireless access point will maintain a list of trusted devices. Additionally, the delivery device 225 will attempt to wirelessly connect to the wireless access point. Additionally, a delivery confirmation message is routed from the delivery device 225 through the wireless access point to the cardholder router 210, where the cardholder router 210 routes the delivery confirmation message to the delivery verification server 215.
[0078] In some embodiments, the delivery device 225 cannot connect to the wireless network at the delivery address. In these embodiments, the delivery device 225 sends a no connection message to the delivery verification server indicating that the delivery device 225 cannot connect to the wireless network. In some embodiments, the no connection message may indicate that the delivery device 225 cannot detect the network. In these embodiments, the delivery verification server 215 may instruct the delivery device not to complete the delivery. In other embodiments, the no connection message may include the signal strength of the wireless network detected by the delivery device 225. The delivery verification server 215 may compare the received signal strength with a predetermined threshold. If the signal strength exceeds the predetermined threshold, the delivery verification server 215 may determine that the delivery device 225 is at the correct location and may instruct the delivery device 225 to complete the delivery, even though the delivery device 225 cannot access the wireless network.
[0079] In some further embodiments, the delivery verification server 215 may store the delivery confirmation message and all routing data associated therewith in the database 220. The delivery verification server 215 may send a delivery completion message to the merchant 124 indicating that the delivery is complete and providing a level of assurance that one or more products in the online order are delivered to the correct address. In some embodiments, the delivery confirmation message also includes a one-time code that is also stored in the database 220 to confirm that the online order is delivered to the correct location.
[0080] In some embodiments, the delivery device 225 is configured to scan for wireless signals. The delivery device 225 is configured to determine an IP address associated with the wireless network and compare the IP address with the network information. If the IP address matches, the delivery device 225 can be configured to deliver the package without logging on to the wireless network.
[0081] Figure 6 is used Figure 2 600 for verifying delivery in an automated delivery system using the system 200 shown in FIG. 600. In an exemplary embodiment, the process 600 is performed by the delivery device 225 (in Figure 2 ) is executed.
[0082] In an exemplary embodiment, the delivery device 225 receives 605 a request to receive a request from the delivery verification server 215 (at Figure 2225).
