[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0002] This patent application claims priority to the following applications: Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 968,944, filed on January 31, 2020, entitled “INDICATING USER EQUIPMENT CAPABILITY FOR CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION MEASUREMENT”; and U.S. Non-Provisional Patent Application No. 17 / 157,664, filed on January 25, 2021, entitled “INDICATING USER EQUIPMENT CAPABILITY FOR CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION MEASUREMENT”, and the above applications are hereby expressly incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field

[0003]

[0004] Aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, to techniques and apparatus for indicating user equipment capabilities for channel state information measurements. Background Art

[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services such as telephone, video, data, messaging, and broadcasting. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies that can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and long term evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard released by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

[0005] The above multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different user equipment (UE) to communicate at the city, country, region, and even global level. New Radio (NR) (which may also be referred to as 5G) is an enhancement set to the LTE mobile standard released by 3GPP. NR is designed to better integrate with other open standards by improving spectrum efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) (CP-OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink (DL), and using CP-OFDM or SC-FDMA (e.g., also referred to as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink (UL), so as to better support mobile broadband Internet access, as well as support beamforming, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology and carrier aggregation. However, as the demand for mobile broadband access continues to grow, there is a need for further improvements to LTE and NR technologies. Preferably, these improvements are applicable to other multiple access technologies and telecommunication standards that employ these technologies.

[0006] The base station may send one or more reference signals to the UE. The UE may attempt to detect and measure the reference signals to determine a metric associated with a wireless connection to the base station. For example, the UE may measure a layer 1 signal to interference plus noise ratio or a layer 1 reference signal received power. The UE may send an indication of the measurement results of the reference signals to the base station. The base station may use the indication of the measurement results to configure subsequent communications between the UE and the base station. For example, the base station may perform a beam selection process or a beam refinement process based at least in part on the indication of the measurement results. Summary of the invention

[0025] Various aspects of the present disclosure are described more fully below with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, the present disclosure can be embodied in many different forms, and is not to be construed as being limited to any specific structure or function given throughout the present disclosure. More specifically, these aspects are provided so that the present disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art. Based on the teachings herein, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover any aspect of the present disclosure disclosed herein, whether it is implemented independently of any other aspect of the present disclosure or implemented in combination with any other aspect of the present disclosure. For example, using any number of aspects set forth herein, a device can be implemented or a method can be practiced. In addition, the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover such a device or method that is practiced using other structures, functions, or structures and functions other than the various aspects of the present disclosure set forth herein or different from the various aspects of the present disclosure set forth herein. Any aspect of the present disclosure disclosed herein can be embodied by one or more elements of the claims.

[0026] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various devices and techniques. These devices and techniques will be described in the following detailed description by various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, or algorithms (collectively referred to as "elements") and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. These elements may be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination of hardware and software. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and the design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0027] Various aspects generally relate to a UE sending, and a base station receiving, an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for channel state information (CSI) measurements. Some aspects more specifically relate to a UE sending an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for CSI measurements (e.g., for beam management procedures) across all component carriers (e.g., associated wireless connections). In some aspects, the UE may send an indication of the number of reference signals supported across all component carriers per frequency range (e.g., frequency range 1 (FR1) or frequency range 2 (FR2) and other examples) or an indication of the number of reference signals supported across all component carriers (e.g., the total number of component carriers supported in all frequency ranges). In some aspects, a component carrier may include a special cell (SPCell) and one or more secondary cells (SCells). In some aspects, a numerology or subcarrier spacing (SCS) of a time slot, subslot, set of time slots, or another time domain resource during which the UE supports the number of reference signals may be associated with a numerology or SCS of a downlink bandwidth portion of a component carrier of a wireless connection. For example, the digital scheme may be the minimum digital scheme of all component carriers of the radio connection, or the SCS may be the maximum subcarrier spacing of all component carriers of the radio connection. In some aspects, the digital scheme or SCS of a slot, subslot, set of slots, or another time domain resource during which the UE supports the number of reference signals may be associated with a reference digital scheme or SCS (e.g., a configured digital scheme or SCS).

[0028] Certain aspects of the subject matter described in the present disclosure may be implemented to achieve one or more of the following potential advantages. In some examples, a base station may use the described techniques to configure a number of reference signals used to perform CSI measurements, where the number is based at least in part on the number of reference signals supported by the UE. In this way, the base station may save power, computational, communication, or network resources that might otherwise have been consumed by sending a number of reference signals for CSI measurements that is greater than the number of reference signals supported by the UE. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may send an increased number of reference signals based at least in part on the UE supporting an increased number of reference signals, which may improve beam management processes (e.g., taking into account testing of an increased number of candidate beams) or may reduce the amount of time resources to be used to send reference signals.

[0029] Figure 1is a schematic diagram showing an example of a wireless network according to the present disclosure. The wireless network may be or may include elements of a 5G (NR) network or an LTE network, as well as other examples. The wireless network may include one or more base stations 110 (shown as BS110a, BS 110b, BS110c, and BS110d) and other network entities. A base station (BS) is an entity that communicates with a user equipment (UE) and may also be referred to as an NR BS, a node B, a gNB, a 5G node B (NB), an access point, a transmit receive point (TRP), and other examples. Each BS may provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to a coverage area of a BS or a BS subsystem serving the coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.

[0030] A BS may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a micro cell, a femto cell, or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access by a UE with a service subscription. A micro cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by a UE with a service subscription. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a residence) and may allow restricted access by a UE associated with the femto cell (e.g., a UE in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a micro cell may be referred to as a micro BS. A BS for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS. A BS may support one or more (e.g., three) cells.

[0031] The wireless network may be a heterogeneous network including different types of BSs, such as a macro BS, a pico BS, a femto BS, or a relay BS. These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different effects on interference in the wireless network. For example, a macro BS may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 to 40 watts), while a pico BS, a femto BS, and a relay BS may have a lower transmit power level (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts). Figure 1 In the example shown in FIG. 1 , BS 110a may be a macro BS for macro cell 102a, BS 110b may be a pico BS for pico cell 102b, and BS 110c may be a femto BS for femto cell 102c. A network controller 130 may be coupled to a set of BSs 102a, 102b, 110a, and 110b, and may provide coordination and control for these BSs. The network controller 130 may communicate with the BSs via a backhaul. The BSs may also communicate with each other, for example, directly or indirectly via a wireless or wired backhaul.

[0032] In some aspects, the cell may not be stationary, but the geographic area of the cell may move according to the location of the mobile BS. In some aspects, the BSs may be interconnected with each other or with one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in a wireless network through various types of backhaul interfaces (such as direct physical connections or virtual networks) using any suitable transport network.

[0033] A wireless network may also include a relay station. A relay station is an entity that can receive transmissions of data from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or UE) and send transmissions of data to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or BS). A relay station may also be a UE that is capable of relaying transmissions for other UEs. Figure 1 In the example shown in , a relay BS 110d may communicate with a macro BS 110a and a UE 120d to facilitate communication between the BS 110a and the UE 120d. A relay BS may also be referred to as a relay station, a relay base station, or a relay, among other examples.

[0034] UE 120 (e.g., 120a, 120b, 120c) can be dispersed throughout the wireless network, and each UE can be stationary or mobile. UE can also be referred to as an access terminal, a terminal, a mobile station, a user unit or station, and other examples. UE can be a cellular phone (e.g., a smart phone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet device, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device or equipment, a biometric sensor / device, a wearable device (smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., smart ring, smart bracelet, etc.)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music or video device, or a satellite wireless unit, etc.), a vehicle component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, an industrial manufacturing equipment, a global positioning system device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via a wireless medium.

[0035] Some UEs may be considered as machine type communication (MTC) or evolved or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC and eMTC UEs include, for example, robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, monitors, or location tags, among other examples, which may communicate with a base station, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. A wireless node may provide, for example, a connection to a network (e.g., a wide area network such as the Internet or a cellular network) or a connection to the network via a wired or wireless communication link. Some UEs may be considered as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs may be considered as customer premises equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included inside a housing that houses components of UE 120, such as a processor component or a memory component, among other examples.

[0036] Typically, any number of wireless networks can be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network can support a specific radio access technology (RAT) and can operate on one or more frequencies or channels. Frequency can also be referred to as a carrier and other examples. Each frequency can support a single RAT in a given geographic area to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks can be deployed.

[0037] In some aspects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly with each other using one or more sidelink channels (e.g., without using base station 110 as an intermediary). For example, UE 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocol (e.g., which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocol, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocol), mesh network, or a combination thereof. In such examples, UE 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations described elsewhere herein as being performed by base station 110.

[0038] The devices of a wireless network can communicate using an electromagnetic spectrum, which can be subdivided into various categories, frequency bands or channels based on frequency or wavelength. For example, the devices of a wireless network can communicate using an operating band having a first frequency range (FR1) (which can span from 410 MHz to 7.125 GHz). As another example, the devices of a wireless network can communicate using an operating band having a second frequency range (FR2) (which can span from 24.25 GHz to 52.6 GHz). The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are sometimes referred to as mid-band frequencies. Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to as a "below 6 GHz" band. Similarly, FR2 is often referred to as a "millimeter wave" band, although it is different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz–300 GHz) identified as a "millimeter wave" band by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Therefore, unless otherwise explicitly stated, it should be understood that the term "below 6 GHz" can broadly represent a frequency less than 6 GHz, a frequency within FR1, a mid-band frequency (e.g., greater than 7.125 GHz) or a combination thereof. Similarly, unless explicitly stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term "millimeter wave" can broadly refer to frequencies within the EHF band, frequencies within FR2, mid-band frequencies (e.g., less than 24.25 GHz), or a combination thereof. The frequencies included in FR1 and FR2 can be modified, and the techniques described herein are applicable to those modified frequency ranges.

[0039] Figure 2 is a schematic diagram showing an example base station communicating with a UE in a wireless network according to the present disclosure. The base station may correspond to Figure 1 Similarly, the UE may correspond to the base station 110. Figure 1 UE120.

[0040] The base station 110 may be equipped with T antennas 234a through 234t, and the UE 120 may be equipped with R antennas 252a through 252r, where in general, T ≥ 1 and R ≥ 1. At the base station 110, a transmit processor 220 may receive data for one or more UEs from a data source 212, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based at least in part on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode) the data for each UE based at least in part on the MCS selected for the UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. The transmit processor 220 may also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI) and other examples) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, upper layer signaling), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals and synchronization signals. A transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, or reference symbols, if applicable, and may provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MODs) 232a through 232t. Each MOD 232 may process a respective output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM and other examples) to obtain an output sample stream. Each MOD 232 may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The T downlink signals from MODs 232a through 232t may be transmitted via T antennas 234a through 234t, respectively.

[0041] At the UE 120, antennas 252a to 252r may receive downlink signals from the base station 110 or other base stations, and may provide received signals to R demodulators (DEMODs) 254a to 254r, respectively. Each DEMOD 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each DEMOD 254 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM) to obtain received symbols. The MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all R DEMODs 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols (if applicable), and provide detected symbols. The receive processor 258 may process (e.g., decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for the UE 120 to the data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to the controller / processor 280. The term "controller / processor" may refer to one or more controllers, one or more processors, or a combination of one or more controllers and one or more processors. The channel processor may determine one or more of a reference signal received power (RSRP) parameter, a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) parameter, a reference signal received quality (RSRQ) parameter, or a channel quality indicator (CQI) parameter, among other examples. In some aspects, one or more components of UE 120 may be included within a housing.

[0042] The network controller 130 may include a communication unit 294, a controller / processor 290, and a memory 292. The network controller 130 may include, for example, one or more devices in a core network. The network controller 130 may communicate with the base station 110 via the communication unit 294.

[0043] Antennas (such as antennas 234a to 234t or antennas 252a to 252r) may include or may be included in one or more antenna panels, antenna groups, antenna element sets, or antenna arrays, among other examples. An antenna panel, antenna group, antenna element set, or antenna array may include one or more antenna elements. An antenna panel, antenna group, antenna element set, or antenna array may include a coplanar antenna element set or a non-coplanar antenna element set. An antenna panel, antenna group, antenna element set, or antenna array may include antenna elements within a single housing or antenna elements within multiple housings. An antenna panel, antenna group, antenna element set, or antenna array may include antenna elements coupled to one or more transmit or receive components (such as Figure 2 One or more antenna elements of one or more components).

[0044] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information from a controller / processor 280 (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, or CQI). The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266 (if applicable), further processed by MODs 254a to 254r (e.g., for discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM) or orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with a cyclic prefix (CP) (CP-OFDM)), and transmitted to the base station 110. In some aspects, the modulator and demodulator (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 254) of the UE 120 may be included in a modem of the UE 120. In some aspects, the UE 120 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antennas 252, modulators 254, demodulators 254, MIMO detectors 256, receive processors 258, transmit processors 264, or TX MIMO processors 266. The transceiver may be used by a processor (e.g., controller / processor 280) and memory 282 to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein.

[0045] At the base station 110, uplink signals from the UE 120 and other UEs may be received by the antenna 234, processed by the DEMOD 232, detected by the MIMO detector 236 (if applicable), and further processed by the receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information sent by the UE 120. The receive processor 238 may provide the decoded data to the data sink 239 and the decoded control information to the controller / processor 240. The base station 110 may include a communication unit 244 and transmit to the network controller 130 via the communication unit 244. The base station 110 may include a scheduler 246 to schedule the UE 120 for downlink and uplink communications. In some aspects, the modulator and demodulator (e.g., MOD / DEMOD 232) of the base station 110 may be included in a modem of the base station 110. In some aspects, the base station 110 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antennas 234, modulators 232, demodulators 232, MIMO detectors 236, receive processors 238, transmit processors 220, or TX MIMO processors 230. The transceiver may be used by a processor (e.g., controller / processor 240) and memory 242 to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein.

For example, one or more instructions, when executed by one or more processors of base station 110 or UE 120 (e.g., directly, or after compilation, conversion, or interpretation), may cause one or more processors, UE 120, or base station 110 to perform or direct, for example, Figure 5 The process of 500 Figure 6 The operations of process 600 or other processes as described herein. In some aspects, executing instructions may include running instructions, converting instructions, compiling instructions, or interpreting instructions, among other examples.

The unit for the UE to perform the operations described herein may include, for example, one or more of the antenna 252, the demodulator 254, the MIMO detector 256, the receive processor 258, the transmit processor 264, the TX MIMO processor 266, the modulator 254, the controller / processor 280, or the memory 282.

[0048] In some aspects, a UE comprises means for determining a number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots based at least in part on one or more of a configuration of the UE, a component of the UE, or an operating mode of the UE.

[0049] In some aspects, the base station includes: a unit for measuring an indication of the number of reference signals for CSI measurement supported by the UE for measurement within the time slot; a unit for sending one or more reference signals in a time slot in one or more time slots based at least in part on sending the indication of the number of reference signals; and an indication of one or more measurement results for the received one or more reference signals. The unit for the base station to perform the operations described herein may include, for example, one or more of the transmit processor 220, the TX MIMO processor 230, the modulator 232, the antenna 234, the demodulator 232, the MIMO detector 236, the receive processor 238, the controller / processor 240, the memory 242, or the scheduler 246.

[0050] In some aspects, a base station includes means for determining, based at least in part on an indication, a number of reference signals to send to a UE for measuring CSI measurements within a time slot.

[0051] Figure 3 3 are diagrams illustrating examples 300, 310, and 320 of a CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) beam management process according to the present disclosure. Figure 3 As shown, examples 300, 310, and 320 include UE 120 communicating with base station 110 in a wireless network (e.g., wireless network 100). Figure 3 The devices shown in the are provided as examples, and the wireless network may support communication and beam management between other devices (e.g., between UE 120 and base station 110 or a transmit receive point (TRP), between a mobile terminal node and a control node, between an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) child node and an IAB parent node, or between a scheduled node and a scheduling node). In some aspects, UE 120 and base station 110 may be in a connected state (e.g., an RRC connected state).

[0052] like Figure 3 As shown, example 300 may include base station 110 and UE 120 communicating to perform beam management using CSI-RS. Example 300 depicts a first beam management process (e.g., P1 CSI-RS beam management). The first beam management process may be referred to as a beam selection process, an initial beam acquisition process, a beam scanning process, a cell search process, or a beam search process. Figure 3 As shown in example 300, CSI-RS may be configured to be sent from base station 110 to UE 120. CSI-RS may be configured to be periodic (e.g., using RRC signaling), semi-persistent (e.g., using medium access control (MAC) control element (MAC-CE) signaling), or aperiodic (e.g., using downlink control information (DCI)).

[0053] The first beam management process may include the base station 110 performing beam scanning on multiple transmit (Tx) beams. The base station 110 may use each transmit beam to send CSI-RS for beam management. In order to enable the UE 120 to perform receive (Rx) beam scanning, the base station may use the transmit beam to send each CSI-RS multiple times (e.g., repeatedly) within the same set of RS resources so that the UE 120 can sweep the receive beam in multiple transmission instances. For example, if the base station 110 has a set of N transmit beams and the UE 120 has a set of M receive beams, the CSI-RS may be sent M times on each of the N transmit beams so that the UE 120 can receive M instances of the CSI-RS per transmit beam. In other words, for each transmit beam of the base station 110, the UE 120 may perform beam scanning through the receive beam of the UE 120. As a result, the first beam management process may enable UE 120 to use different receive beams to measure CSI-RS on different transmit beams to support selection of a base station 110 transmit beam / UE 120 receive beam pair. UE 120 may report the measurement results to base station 110 to enable base station 110 to select one or more beam pairs for communication between base station 110 and UE 120. Although example 300 has been described in conjunction with CSI-RS, the first beam management process may also use a synchronization signal block (SSB) for beam management in a similar manner as described above.

[0054] like Figure 3 As shown, example 310 may include base station 110 and UE 120 communicating to perform beam management using CSI-RS. Example 310 depicts a second beam management process (e.g., P2 CSI-RS beam management). The second beam management process may be referred to as a beam refinement process, a base station beam refinement process, a TRP beam refinement process, or a transmit beam refinement process. Figure 3As shown in example 310, the CSI-RS may be configured to be sent from the base station 110 to the UE 120. The CSI-RS may be configured to be non-periodic (e.g., using DCI). The second beam management process may include the base station 110 performing beam scanning on one or more transmit beams. The one or more transmit beams may be a subset of all transmit beams associated with the base station 110 (e.g., determined at least in part based on the measurement results reported by the UE 120 in conjunction with the first beam management process). The base station 110 may use each of the one or more transmit beams to send the CSI-RS for beam management. The UE 120 may measure each CSI-RS using a single (e.g., the same) receive beam (e.g., determined at least in part based on the measurement performed in conjunction with the first beam management process). The second beam management process may enable the base station 110 to select the best transmit beam based at least in part on the measurement results of the CSI-RS reported by the UE 120 (e.g., measured by the UE 120 using a single receive beam).

[0055] like Figure 3 As shown, example 320 depicts a third beam management process (e.g., P3 CSI-RS beam management). The third beam management process may be referred to as a beam refinement process, a UE beam refinement process, or a receive beam refinement process. Figure 3 As shown in example 320, one or more CSI-RS may be configured to be sent from base station 110 to UE 120. The CSI-RS may be configured to be non-periodic (e.g., using DCI). The third beam management process may include base station 110 sending one or more CSI-RS using a single transmit beam (e.g., determined at least in part based on measurements reported by UE 120 in conjunction with the first beam management process or the second beam management process). In order to enable UE 120 to perform receive beam scanning, the base station may use the transmit beam to send (e.g., repeatedly) CSI-RS multiple times within the same RS resource set so that UE 120 can sweep across one or more receive beams in multiple transmission instances. The one or more receive beams may be a subset of all receive beams associated with UE 120 (e.g., determined at least in part based on measurements performed in conjunction with the first beam management process or the second beam management process). The third beam management process may enable base station 110 or UE 120 to select the best receive beam based at least in part on reported measurement results received from UE 120 (eg, of the CSI-RS of the transmit beam using one or more receive beams).

[0056] As indicated above, Figure 3 is provided as an example of a beam management process. Other examples of beam management processes may be related to Figure 3For example, UE 120 and base station 110 may perform the third beam management process before performing the second beam management process, or UE 120 and base station 110 may perform a similar beam management process to select a UE transmit beam.

[0057] In some networks, the base station and the UE may perform one or more procedures including transmission of a reference signal, transmission of a measurement result of the reference signal, and / or transmission of an indication of the measurement result of the reference signal. For example, the base station and the UE may perform one or more beam management procedures (e.g., Figure 3 As shown). As part of one or more processes, the base station may send one or more reference signals for CSI measurement (e.g., for a beam management process) to the UE. The UE may attempt to detect and measure the reference signals to determine a metric associated with the wireless connection to the base station. For example, the UE may measure the layer 1 signal to interference plus noise ratio or the layer 1 reference signal received power (e.g., as part of the beam management process). The UE may send an indication of the measurement result of the reference signal to the base station. The base station may use the indication of the measurement result to configure subsequent communications between the UE and the base station. For example, the base station may perform a beam selection process or a beam refinement process based at least in part on the indication of the measurement result. However, the base station may unnecessarily consume power, computation, communication, or network resources based at least in part on sending a number of reference signals for CSI measurement that is greater than the number of reference signals supported by the UE. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may send fewer CSI reference signals than the CSI reference signals supported by the UE, which may degrade the beam management process (e.g., taking into account the testing of a reduced number of candidate beams) or may increase the amount of time resources required to send the reference signal.

[0058] In some aspects described herein, a UE may send an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for CSI measurement (e.g., for reception during a time domain resource). The UE may communicate via a wireless connection based at least in part on the indication. For example, the UE may receive a number of reference signals for CSI measurement (e.g., in a time slot), wherein the number of received reference signals is less than or equal to the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots as indicated. The UE may use the number of reference signals for CSI measurement, and may send an indication of the CSI measurement results. In this way, the base station may save power, computation, communication, or network resources that may otherwise have been consumed by sending a number of reference signals for CSI measurement that is greater than the number of reference signals supported by the UE. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may send an increased number of reference signals based at least in part on the UE supporting an increased number of reference signals, which may improve the beam management process (e.g., taking into account the testing of an increased number of candidate beams), or may reduce the amount of time resources required to send reference signals.

[0059] Figure 4 4 is a schematic diagram illustrating an example 400 of indicating user equipment capabilities for CSI measurement according to the present disclosure. Figure 4 As shown, a UE (e.g., UE 120) can communicate with a base station (e.g., base station 110). In some aspects, the UE and the base station can be part of a wireless network (e.g., wireless network 100).

[0060] In a first operation 405, the UE may receive configuration information (e.g., from a base station) or determine the configuration information based at least in part on a communication standard. In some aspects, the UE may receive the configuration information via one or more of a system information block, a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, a medium access control element (MAC CE), or a sidelink communication, among other examples. In some aspects, the configuration information may include an indication of one or more configuration parameters (e.g., already known to the UE) for selection by the UE or explicit configuration information for use by the UE to configure the UE, among other examples.

[0061] In some aspects, configuration information may indicate that the UE is to determine a number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI within one or more time slots. In some aspects, configuration information may indicate how the UE is to determine a number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI within one or more time slots. In some aspects, configuration information may indicate that the UE is to send an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI within one or more time slots. In some aspects, configuration information may indicate how the UE is to send an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI within one or more time slots (e.g., a configuration for indicating how the UE is to send an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI within one or more time slots).

[0062] In a second operation 410, the UE may be configured based at least in part on the configuration information. In some aspects, the UE may be configured to perform one or more operations described herein.

[0063] In a third operation 415, the UE may determine the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots. In some aspects, the number is based at least in part on the configuration of the UE (e.g., the power state of the UE), components of the UE (e.g., a number of baseband components, a number of antenna groups or computing components, and other examples), or an operating mode of the UE (e.g., dual connectivity mode). In some aspects, the configuration of the UE may be based at least in part on configuration information received, for example, from a base station.

[0064] In some aspects, the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots may include a maximum number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in the one or more time slots. In some aspects, the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in the one or more time slots may include a selected number of reference signals supported by the UE for CSI measurement, the selected number of reference signals being less than or equal to the maximum number.

[0065] In some aspects, the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots may include the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots on a first set of component carriers of a first frequency range, or the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots on a second set of component carriers of a second frequency range (e.g., a separate number per frequency range). The first set of component carriers of the first frequency range may include a special cell and one or more secondary cells of the first frequency range. The second set of component carriers of the second frequency range may include a special cell and one or more secondary cells of the second frequency range.

[0066] In some aspects, the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots may include the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots on a set of component carriers of multiple frequency ranges. For example, the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots may include the total number of reference signals supported by the UE for a first frequency range and a second frequency range (e.g., a combined number for two or more frequency ranges). The set of component carriers of multiple frequency ranges may include one or more special cells (e.g., a special cell per frequency range) and one or more secondary cells of multiple frequency ranges.

[0067] In some aspects, the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots may include the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots during a time slot, a sub-time slot, a time slot set, or another time domain resource. The digital scheme of the time domain resource (e.g., time slot) for measuring the reference signal may be a specific digital scheme based at least in part on a specific bandwidth portion of the component carrier on which the UE supports the number of reference signals. In some aspects, the specific bandwidth portion may be a bandwidth portion with the smallest digital scheme among the bandwidth portions of the component carrier on which the UE supports the number of reference signals. In some aspects, the digital scheme of the time domain resource for measuring the reference signal may be based at least in part on a configured digital scheme (e.g., configured at least in part based on configuration information or a communication standard, and other examples). In some aspects, the subcarrier spacing of the time domain resource for measuring the reference signal is a specific subcarrier spacing based at least in part on a specific bandwidth portion of the component carrier on which the UE supports the number of reference signals. In some aspects, the specific bandwidth portion may be a bandwidth portion with the largest subcarrier spacing among the bandwidth portions of the component carrier on which the UE supports the number of reference signals. In some aspects, the subcarrier spacing of the time domain resources used for measuring reference signals is based at least in part on the configured subcarrier spacing (e.g., configured at least in part based on configuration information or a communication standard, among other examples).

[0068] In a fourth operation 420, the UE may send, and the base station may receive, an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots (e.g., maxTotalResourcesForAcrossFreqRanges-r16 or maxTotalResourcesForOneFreqRange-r16). In some aspects, the indication may indicate the number of resources associated with the reference signals supported by the UE for CSI measurement (e.g., for beam management). For example, the number of resources may be the number of resources across all component carriers in a single frequency range (e.g., maxTotalResourcesForOneFreqRange-r16) or the number of resources across all component carriers in all frequency ranges (e.g., maxTotalResourcesForAcrossFreqRanges-r16), as well as other examples. In some aspects, the indication may indicate the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI within one or more time slots within a time slot (e.g., across all component carriers in a frequency range) (e.g., maxNumberResWithinSlotAcrossCC-AcrossFR-r16 or maxNumberResWithinSlotAcrossCC-OneFR-r16). In some aspects, the UE may send the indication via a control message. For example, the UE may send the indication via a physical uplink control channel communication. In some aspects, the UE may communicate with a base station (e.g., via an associated wireless connection) based at least in part on the indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI within one or more time slots. For example, the UE may receive one or more reference signals for CSI measurement from the base station, or may send an indication of the CSI measurement results.

[0069] In a fifth operation 425, the base station may determine a number of reference signals to send to the UE for CSI measurement. In some aspects, the number may be based in part on an indication of the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots. For example, the number of reference signals to be sent to the UE may be the same number or less than the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots. In some aspects, the base station may determine to send a number less than the number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots based at least in part on, for example, a configured beamwidth or channel condition metric for an associated cell, as well as other examples.

[0070] In a sixth operation 430, the UE may receive and the base station may send a number of reference signals for CSI measurement (e.g., within a time slot). In some aspects, the reference signal may include a synchronization signal physical broadcast channel block or a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS). In some aspects, the CSI-RS may include one or more non-zero power (NZP) CSI-RS, one or more aperiodic CSI-RS, one or more periodic CSI-RS, or one or more semi-persistent CSI-RS.

[0071] In a seventh operation 435, the UE may perform CSI measurements. In some aspects, the UE may attempt to detect and measure a reference signal to determine a metric associated with a wireless connection with the base station. For example, the UE may measure a layer 1 signal to interference plus noise ratio or a layer 1 reference signal received power.

[0072] In an eighth operation 440, the UE may send an indication of the CSI measurement result. For example, the UE may send an indication of the CSI measurement result via a secondary cell, a special cell, or a primary cell. In some aspects, the UE may send an indication of the CSI measurement result via a control message. The indication of the CSI measurement result may include a CSI measurement report, a CSI interference measurement report, or other report.

[0073] Based at least in part on the number of reference signals received by the UE, for CSI measurement, in a case where the number of received reference signals is less than or equal to the indicated number of reference signals supported by the UE for measuring CSI in one or more time slots, the base station can save power, computation, communication, or network resources that might otherwise have been consumed by sending a number of reference signals for CSI measurement that is greater than the number of reference signals supported by the UE. Additionally or alternatively, the base station can send an increased number of reference signals based at least in part on the UE supporting the increased number of reference signals, which can improve beam management procedures (e.g., taking into account testing of an increased number of candidate beams) or can reduce an amount of time resources required to send reference signals.

[0074] Figure 5 is a flow chart illustrating an example process 500 performed, for example, by a UE in accordance with the present disclosure.
