Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The following description relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to enhanced sounding reference signal (SRS) resource configuration. Background Art
[0002] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, improved LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems) and fifth generation (5G) systems (which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems). These systems may employ techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform extended orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or network access node simultaneously supporting communication for multiple communication devices (which may be further referred to as user equipment (UE)). Summary of the invention

In some examples, the SRS parameters may include frequency allocation, frequency overlap parameters, the number of allocated symbols, comb values, cyclic shifts, cyclic offset shifts, comb offsets, frequency hopping parameters, repetition parameters, symbol grouping parameters or any combination thereof. The UE may determine an SRS configuration for one or more SRSs based on one or more SRS parameters in the set of SRS parameters. In some examples, the SRS configuration may include a configuration for SRS frequency hopping or SRS repetition or both. [0063] A user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system can communicate with other wireless devices such as a base station. The base station can configure resources to be used for communicating with the UE. In some examples, the UE can have multiple antennas, and a reference signal can be sent according to an antenna switching process to provide channel estimates for one or more of the antennas. The reference signal resources used to send the reference signal can be sent aperiodically (e.g., via downlink control information (DCI) signaling), semi-persistently, or periodically. The UE can then select one or more antennas for communication, or the base station can determine one or more communication beams based on the channel estimate.
[0064] As such, the UE may send a reference signal, such as a sounding reference signal (SRS), to the base station. In some examples, the base station may configure one or more reference signal resources for a set of symbols (e.g., one or more symbols), one or more subcarriers, one or more ports or antennas, etc., where an SRS resource set may include one or more resources for use by the UE to send the SRS.
[0065] The UE may be configured by the base station with one or more resources, which may be grouped into reference signal resource sets depending on the application. Applications may include antenna switching, codebook-based communications, non-codebook-based communications, or beam management, or any combination thereof, among other examples.
[0066] In some other example configurations, the base station may configure one or more SRS resources so that the SRS resources may span one or more (e.g., 1, 2, 4) continuous or discontinuous symbols, with up to 4 ports per reference signal resource. In some examples, each port of the reference signal resource may be detected in each symbol. In some wireless communication systems, the SRS may be sent only in the last 6 symbols of a time slot, and may be sent only after a physical uplink channel (PUSCH) transmission in a time slot. In some implementations, SRS resources sent under such a configuration may result in inefficient use of resources, and may be subject to strict constraints based on previous restrictions on SRS transmissions.
[0067] According to the present disclosure, in order to more efficiently utilize SRS resources and increase SRS flexibility, the base station may send a set of SRS parameters (e.g., one or more) to the UE, and the UE may use the SRS parameters when determining the SRS transmission configuration that the UE should use to send SRS to the base station. In some examples, the set of parameters may include an indication that the UE may be configured to support SRS frequency hopping and repetition for more than 4 symbols and up to 14 symbols. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to support non-uniform grouping for SRS frequency hopping and repetition. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to support different comb values, cyclic shift values, comb offset values, or cyclic shift offset values and other values for SRS resources. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to support partial frequency overlap between symbols of different frequency hopping in one or more SRS resources. In some examples, the frequency overlap between a set of symbols (e.g., one or more symbols) may be the same or different from the frequency overlap between another set of symbols (e.g., one or more symbols). Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to support different parameter assignments across time slots. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may be configured to receive SRS resource parameters via radio resource control (RRC) signaling, signaling including DCI, or signaling related to a medium access control element (MAC-CE). In some examples, the UE may be configured to receive a first SRS configuration via RRC signaling, and to receive a second set (e.g., an updated set) of SRS parameters via DCI or MAC-CE. In some examples, the UE may receive a first SRS configuration via DCI or MAC-CE. As used herein, unless otherwise specified, a group may include one or more elements in the group.
[0068] Certain aspects of the subject matter described herein can be implemented to achieve one or more advantages. The described techniques can support improvements in the SRS transmission framework by increasing SRS resource configuration flexibility and increasing SRS resource utilization, among other advantages. As such, the supported techniques can include improved network operation, and in some examples, can improve network efficiency and various other benefits.
[0069] Various aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of a wireless communication system. Various aspects are then described with reference to SRS resource configurations and process flows. Various aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated by and described with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts related to enhanced SRS resource configurations.

Each base station 105 may provide a coverage area 110 over which the UEs 115 and the base stations 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which the base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may support transmission of signals according to one or more radio access technologies.
[0072] UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary, mobile, or both at different times. UEs 115 may be devices in different forms or with different capabilities. Some example UEs 115 are Figure 1 UE 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices such as other UE 115, base station 105, or network equipment (e.g., core network node, relay device, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, or other network equipment), such as Figure 1 as shown in .
[0073] The base stations 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or with each other, or both. For example, the base stations 105 may be connected to the core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., via S1, N2, N3, or other interfaces). The base stations 105 may communicate with each other via the backhaul links 120 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces) directly (e.g., directly between the base stations 105) or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130), or both. In some examples, the backhaul links 120 may be or include one or more wireless links.
[0074] One or more of the base stations 105 described herein may include or be referred to by a person of ordinary skill in the art as a base station transceiver, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB, evolved NodeB), a next generation NodeB or a Gigabit NodeB (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a Home NodeB, a Home eNodeB or other appropriate terms.
[0075] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device or a user device, or some other appropriate terminology, where "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal or a client, as well as other examples. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, as well as other examples, which may be implemented in various items such as home appliances, or vehicles, meters, and other examples.
[0076] The UE 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115 that may sometimes act as relays, as well as base stations 105 and network devices including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, or relay base stations, among other examples, such as Figure 1 as shown in .
[0077] The UE 115 and the base station 105 can communicate with each other wirelessly via one or more communication links 125 through one or more carriers. The term "carrier" can refer to a set of radio frequency spectrum resources with a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication link 125. For example, the carrier used for the communication link 125 may include a portion of the radio frequency spectrum band (e.g., bandwidth portion (BWP)) that operates according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel can carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling to coordinate operations for the carrier, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 can use carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation to support communication with the UE 115. According to the carrier aggregation configuration, the UE 115 can be configured with multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers. Carrier aggregation can be used with frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers.
[0078] The signal waveform transmitted by the carrier wave may be composed of multiple subcarriers (e.g., using a multicarrier modulation (MCM) technique such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system employing MCM technology, a resource element may include a symbol period (e.g., the duration of a modulation symbol) and a subcarrier, where the symbol period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the coding rate of the modulation scheme, or both). Therefore, the more resource elements received by the UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate for the UE 115. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio frequency spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial layers may further increase the data rate or data integrity used for communications with the UE 115.
[0079] The time interval for the base station 105 or the UE 115 may be expressed in multiples of a basic time unit (which may refer to, for example, T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds sampling period), where Δf max It can indicate the maximum supported subcarrier spacing, and N f The maximum supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size may be indicated. The time intervals of the communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each radio frame having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).
[0080] Each frame may include multiple consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame may be divided into subframes (e.g., in the time domain), and each subframe may be further divided into multiple time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include multiple symbol periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix appended to the front of each symbol period). In some wireless communication systems 100, a time slot may be further divided into multiple micro-time slots containing one or more symbols. In addition to the cyclic prefix, each symbol period may contain one or more (e.g., N f ) sampling periods. The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating band.
[0081] A subframe, slot, mini-slot, or symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100, and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in a burst of a shortened TTI (sTTI)).
[0082] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier, for example, using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) for a physical control channel may be defined by a number of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth or a subset of a system bandwidth of a carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a group of UEs 115. For example, one or more of the UEs 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates at one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. An aggregation level for a control channel candidate may refer to the number of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to multiple UEs 115 and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .
[0083] In some examples, the base stations 105 may be mobile and, therefore, provide communication coverage for mobile geographic coverage areas 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same base station 105. In other examples, overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.
[0084] The wireless communication system 100 can be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low-latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 can be configured to support ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) or mission-critical communication. UE115 can be designed to support ultra-reliable, low-latency or critical functions (e.g., mission-critical functions). Ultra-reliable communication can include private communication or group communication, and can be supported by one or more mission-critical services (such as mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), mission-critical video (MCVideo), or mission-critical data (MCData). Support for mission-critical functions can include prioritizing services, and mission-critical services can be used for public safety or general commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low-latency, mission-critical, and ultra-reliable low-latency can be used interchangeably herein.
[0085] In some examples, UE 115 may also be able to communicate directly with other UE 115 via a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., using a peer-to-peer (P2P) or D2D protocol). One or more UEs 115 utilizing D2D communication may be within a geographic coverage area 110 of a base station 105. Other UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the geographic coverage area 110 of a base station 105, or may not otherwise be able to receive transmissions from a base station 105. In some examples, a group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may utilize a one-to-many (1:M) system in which each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some examples, a base station 105 facilitates scheduling of resources for D2D communication. In other cases, D2D communication is performed between UEs 115 without involving a base station 105.
[0086] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connection, and other access, routing or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), which may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility, and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management for UE 115 served by a base station 105 associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be transmitted through a user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to a network operator IP service 150. The operator IP service 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), or a packet-switched streaming service.
[0087] Some of the network devices, such as the base station 105, may include subcomponents such as an access network entity 140, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC). Each access network entity 140 may communicate with the UE 115 through one or more other access network transport entities 145, which may be referred to as a radio head, a smart radio head, or a transmit / receive point (TRP). Each access network transport entity 145 may include one or more antenna panels. In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity 140 or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., a radio head and ANC), or combined in a single network device (e.g., a base station 105).
[0088] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands, typically in the range of 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). Typically, the region from 300 MHz to 3 GHz is referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band, since the wavelengths range from approximately one decimeter to one meter in length. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, but the waves may penetrate structures enough for a macro cell to provide service to a UE 115 located indoors. Transmission of UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter distances (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than transmission using the lower frequencies and longer wavelengths of the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.
[0089] The wireless communication system 100 can utilize licensed and unlicensed radio frequency spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 can adopt license assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in an unlicensed band such as the 5GHz industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band. When operating in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, devices such as base stations 105 and UE 115 can use carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operation in an unlicensed band can be based on a carrier aggregation configuration combined with component carriers operating in a licensed band (e.g., LAA). Operations in an unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, as well as other examples.
[0090] The base station 105 or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which may be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the base station 105 or UE 115 may be located within one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels, which may support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly such as an antenna tower. In some examples, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with the base station 105 may be located at a variety of geographic locations. The base station 105 may have an antenna array having a number of rows and columns of antenna ports, and the base station 105 may use the antenna array to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays, which may support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming for signals sent via the antenna ports.
[0091] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115) to shape or control an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals transmitted via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating in a particular orientation with respect to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals transmitted via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each of the antenna elements may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular orientation (e.g., with respect to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or with respect to some other orientation).
[0092] In some examples, the UE may receive from a base station an indication of a set of SRS parameters corresponding to a set of SRS resources for sending one or more SRSs, wherein the set of SRS resources may refer to frequency (e.g., physical resource block (PRB) index, or subcarrier index) or time (e.g., orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol index) or both. In some examples, in addition to other examples, the SRS parameters may include frequency allocation, frequency overlap parameters, the number of allocated symbols, comb values, cyclic shifts, comb offsets, frequency hopping parameters, repetition parameters, symbol grouping parameters, or any combination thereof. The UE may determine one or more SRS configurations for one or more SRSs based on the set of SRS parameters. In some examples, in addition to other examples, one or more SRS configurations may include configurations for SRS frequency hopping or SRS repetition or both. The UE may send at least some of the one or more SRSs to the base station based on the SRS configuration.
[0093] Figure 2 According to various aspects of the present disclosure, an example of a wireless communication system 200 supporting enhanced SRS resource configuration is shown. The wireless communication system 200 may include a base station 105-a and a UE 115-a. The base station 105-a may be a reference Figure 1 The example of base station 105 described above, UE 115-a may be a reference Figure 1 Examples of UE 115 described herein. Base station 105-a may serve geographic coverage area 110-a. In some examples, base station 105-a may implement enhanced SRS resource configuration. For example, base station 105-a may send a set of SRS parameters to UE 115, which UE 115 may use to determine one or more SRS transmission configurations. Additionally or alternatively, other wireless devices such as UE 115-a may implement enhanced SRS resource configuration. The examples described herein do not include an exhaustive list. More examples may be possible. References Figures 2 to 6 Any of the described examples may be used in any combination with each other.
[0094] Prior to sending one or more SRS, the UE 115 may receive a set of parameters associated with a set of SRS resources from the base station 105. For example, the UE 115-a may receive one or more SRS parameter messages 215 (e.g., RRC signaling) via a downlink signal 205 that may indicate a set of SRS parameters. In some examples, the UE 115 may be configured with one or more (e.g., multiple SRS resources grouped in an SRS resource set depending on the application (e.g., antenna switching, codebook-based communication, non-codebook-based communication, beam management)). For example, the UE 115 may be configured with multiple SRS resource sets, each of which may include one or more resources, wherein one of the groups may be configured for antenna switching, and another group may be configured for codebook-based SRS. The resources that the UE 115 is configured with may refer to time and frequency resources, such as PRB indices, subcarrier indices, symbol indices (e.g., OFDM symbol indices), etc.
[0095] Based on the received SRS parameters, UE 115-a can determine one or more SRS configurations for one or more SRS transmissions. In some examples, the one or more SRS transmissions can include multiple SRS transmissions in one or more of multiple symbols, multiple PRBs, multiple subcarriers, etc.
[0096] In some other implementations, the UE 115-a may be limited to transmitting SRS in 1, 2, or 4 adjacent symbols, the SRS may be limited to the last 6 symbols of a slot, and may be transmitted only after the PUSCH of a slot is transmitted. For example, the UE 115-a may send an SRS transmission 220 to the base station 105-a via uplink signaling 210. Figure 2 In the example resource grid depicted in , where the y-axis is the PRB index and the x-axis is the symbol index, UE 115-a may send SRS transmissions using a number of symbols (e.g., the last four symbols) in the resource blocks and time slots in the sounding bandwidth. In some examples, the sounding bandwidth may include 48 PRBs. PRBs may be divided into smaller units, such as subcarriers, where 1 PRB may be associated with one or more subcarriers (e.g., 12 subcarriers). As such, as depicted in the grid with subcarrier index and symbol index axes for SRS transmissions, UE 115-a may configure SRS resources at the subcarrier level.
[0097] For example, UE 115-a may configure SRS transmissions in some symbols (e.g., the last four symbols) of a time slot with frequency hopping and repetition supported for up to four symbols, with equal SRS repetition grouping, with similar comb values across SRS transmissions in a pair, with similar cyclic shifts for SRS transmissions in a pair, and without frequency overlap. UE 115-a may configure the same SRS transmission for each time slot. For example, Figure 2 As depicted in , UE 115-a can send repeated SRS transmissions having a comb value of 4 and a repetition factor of 4, where each SRS transmission in adjacent symbols in the same subcarrier (e.g., each SRS transmission of four repeated SRS transmissions) can have the same comb value and the same offset value.
[0098] In order to more efficiently utilize SRS resources and increase SRS flexibility, the base station 105 can configure the UE to support more flexible SRS configurations and parameters. In this regard, the base station 105-a can send an indication of a set of parameters (e.g., one or more bit values, one or more fields including an indication, information associated with an index or value pointing to one or more SRS parameters stored at the UE), the set of parameters itself, or both) to the UE 115-a. In some examples, the set of parameters may include an indication that the UE 115-a can be configured to support SRS hopping and repetition for a number of symbols (such as greater than 4 symbols or up to 14 symbols or both). Repetition can refer to more than one SRS in the same SRS sent in one or more symbols (e.g., adjacent symbols). Hopping can refer to the UE 115 using different parts of the subcarrier to, for example, send SRS signals in different symbols. In some examples, the number of symbols that can be used for SRS hopping and repetition can be 1 or can be an even number (such as 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, or 14). The following example table (Table 1) may indicate possible configurations for up to 14 symbols.
[0099]
[0100] Table 1: Supported SRS resource configurations
[0101] For an SRS resource having one or more symbols (e.g., Ns symbols), frequency hopping may be configured for one or more repetitions (e.g., R repetitions), wherein intra-slot hopping, inter-slot hopping, or both may be supported for at least some (if not each) of the antenna ports of the SRS resource that may be mapped to one or more different groups of subcarriers across one or more pairs (e.g., Ns / R pairs) of R adjacent symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) of the resource in each time slot. In some examples, at least some (if not each) of the antenna ports of the SRS resource may be mapped to the same group of subcarriers, e.g., within each pair of R adjacent symbols of the resource in each time slot. In some examples, another option may support this configuration in the event that the number of symbols divided by the number of repetitions is not equal to a whole number (e.g., 6 symbols divided by 4 repetitions is 1.5). In some examples, the UE 115-a may be configured to support non-uniform grouping for SRS frequency hopping and repetition. In some examples, non-uniform grouping may be supported by a configuration marked "Other" in the table.
[0102] Additionally or alternatively, in addition to other examples, UE 115-a may be configured to support different comb values, different cyclic shift values, different comb offset values, or different cyclic shift offset values for one or more SRS resources. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-a may be configured to support partial frequency overlap between symbols of different frequency hopping. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-a may be configured to support different parameter assignments across time slots. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-a may be configured to receive SRS resource parameters via signaling (such as RRC signaling, signaling including DCI, or signaling related to MAC-CE). In some examples, UE 115-a may be configured to receive a first (e.g., original) SRS configuration via RRC signaling, and to receive a second (e.g., updated) set of SRS parameter sets via DCI or MAC-CE. In some examples, UE 115-a may receive a first SRS configuration via DCI or MAC-CE.
[0103] Figure 3A , Figure 3B , Figure 3C and Figure 3D According to various aspects of the present disclosure, examples of SRS resource configurations 300, 301, 302, and 303 that support enhanced SRS resource configuration are shown. The SRS resource configurations 300, 301, 302, and 303 may be configured by a base station or a UE, and the base station or the UE may be as described in reference Figure 1 and Figure 2Examples of base stations and UEs described herein. The x-axis may be time resources (e.g., OFDM symbols), and the y-axis may be frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers). In some examples, the base station may implement enhanced SRS resource configuration. For example, the base station may send a set of SRS parameters to the UE, which the UE may use to determine one or more SRS transmission configurations. Additionally or alternatively, other wireless devices such as UEs may implement enhanced SRS resource configuration. The examples described herein do not include an exhaustive list. More examples may be possible. References Figures 2 to 6 Any of the described examples may be used in any combination with each other.
[0104] In some examples, in order to efficiently utilize SRS resources, the UE may be configured to support non-uniform grouping for SRS frequency hopping and repetition. For example, an SRS resource having one or more symbols, such as Ns symbols (e.g., 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 symbols) in which frequency hopping is configured, may be mapped to a plurality of SRS resources spanning R for each hop. i subcarriers of different groups of adjacent symbols, where i=0, 1, ..., M, and M can be the number of hops (e.g., frequency hopping). i Each of the antenna ports of the SRS resource may be mapped to the same set of subcarriers within adjacent symbols. In some examples, the base station or UE may configure the number of hops, or the number of adjacent symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols), or both for each hop. For example, the UE may configure SRS resources in which the number of SRS repetitions per subcarrier may be different, such that a first subcarrier may be configured with a single SRS transmission, a second subcarrier may be configured with a pair of repeated SRS transmissions, and a third subcarrier may be configured with a single SRS transmission, etc.
[0105] In some examples, the UE may be configured to send one or more SRS signals in one or more symbols (e.g., four SRS signals in four adjacent symbols). The UE may be configured to send SRS signals with a frequency hopping of 3, and 2 of the 4 SRS signals may be repeated versions.
[0106] In some examples, the UE may be configured to send an SRS signal according to symbol grouping parameters 1 / 1 / 2. For example, the UE may configure SRS transmission as follows: Figure 3A As depicted in , the first SRS signal of the first hop is a single SRS signal, the second SRS signal of the second hop is a single SRS signal, and the third SRS signal and the fourth SRS signal of the third hop are repeated SRS signals.
[0107] In some examples, the UE may configure the SRS signal according to the symbol grouping parameter 2 / 1 / 1, and the UE may configure the SRS transmission as follows: Figure 3B As depicted in , the first SRS signal and the second SRS signal of the first hop are repeated SRS signals, the third SRS signal of the second hop is a single SRS signal, and the fourth SRS signal of the third hop is a single SRS signal. In some examples, the UE can configure the SRS signal according to the symbol grouping parameter 1 / 2 / 1, which is not shown in the example.
[0108] In some examples, the UE may be configured to send six SRS signals in six adjacent symbols. The UE may be configured to send an SRS signal with a frequency hopping of 2. In such a case, the UE may be configured to send an SRS signal according to a symbol grouping parameter of 1 / 5, where the first SRS signal is a single SRS transmission in the first hop, and the SRS signals in the next five symbols of the second hop are repeated versions of the SRS signal. Additionally or alternatively, the symbol grouping parameter may be 5 / 1, 2 / 4, or 4 / 2.
[0109] Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-a may be configured to support different comb values, cyclic shift values, or comb offset values for SRS within one SRS resource. In some examples, the UE may be configured to send repeated SRS with different comb values, different cyclic shifts, different comb offsets, different cyclic offsets, and the like. The comb value may be the spacing between subcarriers for one or more SRS, including for one SRS. For example, a comb value of three would indicate that for every three subcarriers in an OFDM symbol, an SRS is present in the first subcarrier in the group of three subcarriers. The comb offset may refer to the starting subcarrier in the sounding bandwidth. For example, a comb offset of zero configures the first SRS in an OFDM symbol to be sent in the first subcarrier of the sounding bandwidth (e.g., from the bottom). A cyclic shift is a shift across an antenna group, where there may be a phase offset when a signal is transmitted on one antenna.
[0110] For example, an SRS resource in a first symbol may be assigned a first comb value, and a repeated SRS resource in a second symbol may be assigned a second comb value. As such, within R adjacent symbols, different comb values, different cyclic shifts, different comb offsets, or different cyclic shift offsets may be used to generate an SRS sequence, and map the SRS sequence to space-time-frequency resources. In some examples, a second UE may be assigned the same time and frequency resources, but the second UE may use (e.g., be assigned) a different comb value, etc., so that the second UE may be multiplexed with the first UE to transmit in the same set of resources.
[0111] In some examples, the UE may be configured to transmit two SRS signals in two adjacent symbols. The UE may be configured to transmit an SRS signal with a repetition factor of two, where the SRS in the first symbol is assigned a comb value of four and the SRS in the second symbol is assigned a comb value of two. In some examples, the UE may configure SRS transmission as follows: Figure 3C As depicted in , the SRS in the second symbol from the right is transmitted according to the comb value of four, and the SRS in the first symbol from the right is transmitted according to the comb value of two.
[0112] In some examples, the UE may be configured to send multiple SRS signals in multiple symbols, such as two SRS signals in two adjacent symbols. The UE may be configured to send an SRS signal with a repetition factor (such as a repetition factor of two), wherein the SRS in a first symbol may be assigned a first comb value (e.g., four), and the SRS in a second symbol may be assigned a second comb value (e.g., two). In some examples, the SRS in the first symbol may be assigned a comb offset value of one subcarrier, and the SRS in the second symbol may be assigned a comb offset value of zero subcarriers. In some examples, the UE may configure SRS transmission such as Figure 3D As depicted in , the SRS in the second symbol from the right can be sent according to a comb value of four, where the first SRS from the bottom is shifted up by one subcarrier according to the comb offset value, and the SRS in the first symbol from the right can be sent according to a comb value of two, where the first SRS from the bottom is not shifted according to the comb offset value.
[0113] In some examples, the UE may be configured to send two SRS signals in two adjacent symbols. The UE may be configured to send SRS signals with a repetition factor of two, where the SRS in the first symbol may be assigned a cyclic offset of zero and the SRS in the second symbol may be assigned a cyclic offset of four. Figure 3A , Figure 3B , Figure 3C and Figure 3D The examples described are not an exhaustive list, and any number of examples and permutations may be possible.
[0114] Figure 4A , Figure 4B , Figure 4C and Figure 4D Examples of SRS resource configurations 400, 401, 402, and 403 that support enhanced SRS resource configuration are shown according to various aspects of the present disclosure. The SRS resource configurations 400, 401, 402, and 403 may be configured by a base station or a UE, and the base station or the UE may be as described in reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 Examples of base stations and UEs described herein.
[0115] In some examples, the UE may be configured to support partial frequency overlap between symbols of different frequency hopping. In some examples, for at least two frequency hopping, subcarriers in different symbols may overlap at least partially in frequency. In some examples, the overlap may be a portion of at least one subcarrier or at least a portion of one or more subcarriers. In some examples, the overlap bandwidth may be the same for every R adjacent symbols. In some examples, the overlap bandwidth may be different for every R adjacent symbols. In some examples, the overlap bandwidth may be some combination of the same and different for every R adjacent symbols.
[0116] For example, Figure 4A As depicted in , the UE may be configured to send one or more SRSs in one or more frequency hopping, such as four SRSs in four frequency hopping. Each of the four SRSs may be configured such that there is an equal fractional frequency overlap, resulting in one or more fractional overlaps, such as three fractional overlaps.
[0117] In another example, if Figure 4B As depicted in , the UE may be configured to send four SRSs in four frequency hops. The UE may configure the SRSs so that there are two partial frequency overlaps. For example, one partial frequency overlap may be between the first two SRSs, and another partial frequency overlap may be between the second two SRSs, wherein the middle two SRSs may not overlap. The partial overlap may be the same between the first two SRSs and the second two SRSs, or the partial overlap may be different.
[0118] In another example, if Figure 4C As depicted in , the UE may be configured to send four SRSs in four hop frequencies. The UE may configure the SRSs so that there is at least one partial frequency overlap between the first two SRSs in the first hop frequency and the second hop frequency. One or more SRSs in different hop frequencies (such as the remaining SRSs) may not overlap.
[0119] In another example, if Figure 4D As depicted in , the UE may be configured to send four SRSs in four frequency hops. The UE may configure the SRSs to have one or more different partial frequency overlaps. The first two SRSs may be repeated SRSs with full frequency overlap, and the second two SRSs in the second two frequency hops may partially overlap in frequency. In some examples, the middle two SRSs may not overlap.
[0120] Figure 5A and Figure 5B According to various aspects of the present disclosure, examples of SRS resource configurations 500 and 501 that support enhanced SRS resource configuration are shown. The SRS resource configurations 500 and 501 may be configured by a base station or a UE, and the base station or the UE may be as described in reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 Examples of base stations and UEs described herein. The x-axis may be time resources (e.g., OFDM symbols), and the y-axis may be frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers). In some examples, the base station may implement enhanced SRS resource configuration. For example, the base station may send a set of SRS parameters to the UE, which the UE may use to determine the SRS transmission configuration. Additionally or alternatively, other wireless devices such as UEs may implement enhanced SRS resource configuration. The examples described herein do not include an exhaustive list. More examples may be possible. References Figures 2 to 6 Any of the described examples may be used in any combination with each other.
[0121] In some implementations, the UE may be configured to support different parameter assignments across time slots, e.g., for periodic or semi-persistent SRS configurations. For example, UE 115-a may configure a first time slot with one or more of a frequency assignment, a comb value, a comb offset, a frequency hopping parameter, a repetition parameter, etc., and may configure a second time slot with one or more of a frequency assignment, a comb value, a comb offset, a frequency hopping parameter, a repetition parameter, etc., wherein the parameter values assigned to the first time slot may be the same or different than the parameter values assigned to the second time slot, or some combination of the two. In some examples, for periodic or semi-persistent SRS configurations, the parameters may be changed periodically or by a predefined order according to one or more indexes (such as a frame or time slot index).
[0122] For example, Figure 5AAs depicted in , the UE may be configured with periodic or semi-persistent SRS on one or more time slots, such as three time slots. In each of the time slots, the UE may be configured to arrange the SRS on a number of symbols and a number of hops, such as four OFDM symbols and with three hops. Each of the time slots may be arranged differently in some examples, but according to the symbol parameters and the hopping parameters. The first time slot may be configured according to a 1 / 1 / 2 conforming grouping, such that there may be one SRS in the first symbol of the first hop, one SRS in the second symbol of the second hop, and two SRS in the third symbol and the fourth symbol of the third hop.
[0123] The second time slot may be configured to be different from the first time slot or the same as the first time slot. In some examples, the second time slot may be configured according to a 1 / 2 / 1 conformance grouping such that there may be one SRS in the first symbol of the first hop, two SRS in the second symbol and the third symbol of the second hop, and one SRS in the fourth symbol of the third hop.
[0124] The third time slot may be configured differently than the first time slot or the second time slot or both, or the third time slot may be configured similarly to the first time slot or the second time slot or both, or any combination of these. In some examples, the third time slot may be configured according to a 2 / 1 / 1 conforming grouping such that there may be two SRSs in the first symbol and the second symbol of the first hop, one SRS in the third symbol of the second hop, and one SRS in the fourth symbol of the third hop.
[0125] In some embodiments, Figure 5B As depicted in , the UE may be configured with periodic or semi-persistent SRS over two time slots. In each of the time slots, the UE may be configured to place the SRS on one or more symbols (such as one or more OFDM symbols) with different comb values. For example, the UE may configure the SRS of the first time slot to have a first comb value (e.g., of four), and configure the SRS of the second time slot to have a second comb value (e.g., of two). In some examples, the UE may be configured with more than two time slots, and the comb values for at least some of the time slots (if not every time slot in the time slots) may follow a pattern such that the comb values for at least some of the time slots (if not every time slot) may switch between a first value (e.g., two) and a second value (e.g., four) for each new time slot (e.g., four, two, four, two, four, two).
[0126] Figure 6An example of a process flow 600 for supporting enhanced SRS resource configuration is shown according to aspects of the present disclosure. The process flow 600 may illustrate an example SRS configuration scheme. For example, a base station 105-b may assign a set of SRS parameters to a UE 115-a. The base station 105-b and the UE 115-b may be reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 Examples of corresponding wireless devices described. [0128] At 610, UE 115b may receive from base station 105-b an indication of an SRS parameter set corresponding to an SRS resource set for transmitting one or more SRSs. In some examples, the indication of the SRS parameter set may activate the SRS configuration. In some examples, the indication of the SRS parameter set may be sent via RRC signaling, or may be sent dynamically via DCI, MAC-CE, etc. In some examples, the DCI or MAC-CE may activate a predefined configuration. In some examples, the DCI or MAC-CE may be used to directly configure the SRS parameters.
[0129] At 615, UE 115-b may determine an SRS configuration for one or more SRSs based on an SRS parameter set, wherein the SRS configuration may include configuration for a number of symbols for which the SRS may be configured, non-uniform grouping for at least one of the one or more SRSs, different SRS parameters for at least one SRS resource, partial frequency overlap of symbols for SRS resources, different SRS configurations for different subsets of time slots, or dynamic configuration of at least some of the SRS parameters, or any combination thereof.
[0130] At 620 , UE 115 - b may send one or more SRSs to the base station based on the SRS configuration.
[0131] At 625, UE 115-b may optionally receive from base station 105-b an indication of an updated set of SRS parameters corresponding to a set of SRS resources for transmitting one or more SRSs. In some examples, the updated set of parameters may be received via DCI or MAC-CE. In some examples, UE 115-b may receive both the original set of parameters and the updated set of parameters via RRC signaling. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115-b may receive the original set of parameters, and update the set of parameters via DCI or MAC-CE or both. Additionally or alternatively, UE 115b may receive the original set of parameters via RRC signaling, and receive the updated set of parameters via DCI or MAC-CE.
