[0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Application No. 17 / 171,721, filed on February 9, 2021, which claims the benefit of and priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 972,612, filed on February 10, 2020, both of which are assigned to the assignee of this application and are hereby expressly incorporated herein by reference in their entirety as if fully set forth below and for all applicable purposes.
[0003] background
[0004] Public domain
[0005] Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to technologies for Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT).
[0006] Related technical description
[0007] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various telecommunication services such as telephony, video, data, messaging, broadcast, etc. These wireless communication systems may employ multiple-access technologies capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple-access systems include 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems, Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) systems, Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) systems, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems, Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) systems, and Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) systems, to name just a few.
[0008] These multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide common protocols that enable different wireless devices to communicate at city, country, region, and even global levels. New radio (e.g., 5G NR) is an example of an emerging telecommunication standard. NR is an enhancement set of the LTE mobile standard promulgated by 3GPP. NR is designed to better support mobile broadband Internet access by using OFDMA with cyclic prefix (CP) on downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) to improve spectrum efficiency, reduce costs, improve services, utilize new spectrum, and better integrate with other open standards. To this end, NR supports beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology, and carrier aggregation.
[0009] However, as the demand for mobile broadband access continues to grow, there is a need for further improvements to NR and LTE technologies. Preferably, these improvements should be applicable to other multiple access technologies and the telecommunication standards that employ these technologies.

Changes may be made to the functions and arrangements of the elements discussed without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. Various examples may appropriately omit, replace, or add various procedures or components. For example, the described method may be performed in an order different from the order described, and various steps may be added, omitted, or combined. Moreover, the features described with reference to some examples may be combined in some other examples. For example, any number of aspects set forth herein may be used to implement a device or practice method. In addition, the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover such devices or methods practiced using other structures, functionalities, or structures and functionalities as supplements to the various aspects of the present disclosure set forth herein or in addition. It should be understood that any aspect of the present disclosure disclosed herein may be implemented by one or more elements of the claims. The wording "exemplary" is used herein to mean "used as an example, instance, or explanation". Any aspect described as "exemplary" herein is not necessarily to be interpreted as superior to or superior to other aspects.
[0036] In general, any number of wireless networks may be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network may support a specific radio access technology (RAT) and may operate on one or more frequencies. RAT may also be referred to as a radio technology, air interface, etc. Frequency may also be referred to as a carrier, subcarrier, frequency channel, frequency tone, subband, etc. Each frequency may support a single RAT in a given geographic area to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs.
[0037] The techniques described herein can be used for various wireless networks and radio technologies. Although various aspects may be described herein using terms typically associated with 3G, 4G, and / or new radio (e.g., 5G NR) wireless technologies, various aspects of the present disclosure may be applied in communication systems based on other generations.
[0038] NR access can support various wireless communication services, such as enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) targeting wide bandwidth (e.g., 80 MHz or more), millimeter wave (mmW) targeting high carrier frequency (e.g., 25 GHz or more), massive machine type communication MTC (mMTC) targeting non-backward compatible MTC technology, and / or mission critical services targeting ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). These services may include latency and reliability requirements. These services may also have different transmission time intervals (TTIs) to meet corresponding quality of service (QoS) requirements. In addition, these services can coexist in the same subframe. NR supports beamforming and the beam direction can be dynamically configured. MIMO transmission with precoding can also be supported. MIMO configuration in DL can support up to 8 transmit antennas (with multi-layer DL transmission of up to 8 streams) and up to 2 streams per UE. Multi-layer transmission of up to 2 streams per UE can be supported. Aggregation of multiple cells can be supported using up to 8 serving cells.
[0039] Figure 1 An example wireless communication network 100 is illustrated in which aspects of the present disclosure may be performed. For example, the wireless communication network 100 may be a NR system (e.g., a 5G NR network). Figure 1 As shown in , the wireless communication network 100 may be in communication with a core network 132. The core network 132 may be in communication with one or more base stations (BSs) 110 and / or user equipments (UEs) 120 in the wireless communication network 100 via one or more interfaces.
[0040] like Figure 1 As illustrated in , the wireless communication network 100 may include several BSs 110a-z (each also individually referred to herein as BS 110, or collectively referred to as BS 110) and other network entities. BS 110 may provide communication coverage for a particular geographic area (sometimes referred to as a "cell"), which may be stationary or mobile depending on the location of the mobile BS 110. In some examples, BS 110 may be interconnected to each other and / or to one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in the wireless communication network 100 via various types of backhaul interfaces (e.g., direct physical connections, wireless connections, virtual networks, etc.) using any suitable transport network. Figure 1In the example shown in FIG. 1 , BSs 110a, 110b, and 110c may be macro BSs for macro cells 102a, 102b, and 102c, respectively. BS 110x may be a pico BS for pico cell 102x. BSs 110y and 110z may be femto BSs for femto cells 102y and 102z, respectively. A BS may support one or more cells. A network controller 130 may be coupled to a set of BSs 110 and provide coordination and control (e.g., via a backhaul) for these BSs 110.
[0041] BS 110 communicates with UEs 120a-y (each also individually referred to herein as UE 120, or collectively referred to as UE 120) in the wireless communication network 100. UEs 120 (e.g., 120x, 120y, etc.) may be dispersed throughout the wireless communication network 100, and each UE 120 may be stationary or mobile. The wireless communication network 100 may also include a relay station (e.g., relay station 110r) (also referred to as a relay, etc.) that receives transmissions of data and / or other information from an upstream station (e.g., BS 110a or UE 120r) and sends transmissions of the data and / or other information to a downstream station (e.g., UE 120 or BS 110), or that relays transmissions between UEs 120 to facilitate communication between the devices.
[0042] According to certain aspects, BS 110 and UE 120 may be configured for NB-IoT communications. Figure 1 As shown in FIG. 1 , BS 110a includes a NB-IoT manager 112. According to aspects of the present disclosure, the NB-IoT manager 112 may be configured to configure narrowband uplink transmissions using a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) associated with a modulation order of at least four. Figure 1 As shown in FIG. 1 , UE 120a includes a NB-IoT manager 122. According to aspects of the present disclosure, the NB-IoT manager 122 may be configured to perform narrowband uplink transmissions using an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four.
[0043] Figure 2 1 and 120a (eg, in the example embodiment of the present invention) that can be used to implement various aspects of the present disclosure. Figure 1 Example components of the wireless communication network 100).
[0044] At BS 110a, transmit processor 220 may receive data from data source 212 and control information from controller / processor 240. The control information may be for a physical broadcast channel (PBCH), a physical control format indicator channel (PCFICH), a physical hybrid ARQ indicator channel (PHICH), a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), a group common PDCCH (GC PDCCH), etc. The data may be for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), etc. A medium access control (MAC)-control element (MAC-CE) is a MAC layer communication structure that may be used for control command exchange between wireless nodes. The MAC-CE may be carried in a shared channel such as a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH), or a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH).
[0045] The processor 220 may process (e.g., encode and symbol map) data and control information to obtain data symbols and control symbols, respectively. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols (such as for a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), and a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS)). The transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, and / or reference symbols, where applicable, and may provide an output symbol stream to a modulator (MOD) 232a-232t. Each modulator 232 may process a respective output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The downlink signals from the modulators 232a-232t may be transmitted via antennas 234a-234t, respectively.
[0046] At UE 120a, antennas 252a-252r may receive downlink signals from BS 110a and may provide received signals to demodulators (DEMODs) in transceivers 254a-254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) a respective received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain received symbols. A MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all demodulators 254a-254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols where applicable, and provide detected symbols. A receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate, deinterleave, and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for UE 120a to a data sink 260, and provide decoded control information to a controller / processor 280.
[0047] On the uplink, at the UE 120a, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 (e.g., for a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH)) and control information from a controller / processor 280 (e.g., for a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH)). The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., a sounding reference signal (SRS)). The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266, if applicable, further processed by a modulator in a transceiver 254a-254r (e.g., for SC-FDM, etc.), and transmitted to the BS 110a. At the BS 110a, the uplink signal from the UE 120a may be received by the antenna 234, processed by the modulator 232, detected by the MIMO detector 236, if applicable, and further processed by the receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information sent by the UE 120a. Receive processor 238 may provide decoded data to data sink 239 and decoded control information to controller / processor 240 .
[0048] Memories 242 and 282 may store data and program codes for BS 110a and UE 120a, respectively.A scheduler 244 may schedule UEs for data transmission on the downlink and / or uplink.
[0049] The antenna 252, processors 266, 258, 264 and / or controller / processor 280 of the UE 120a, and / or the antenna 234, processors 220, 230, 238 and / or controller / processor 240 of the BS 110a may be used to perform the various techniques and methods described herein. Figure 2 As shown in FIG. 1 , according to various aspects described herein, the controller / processor 240 of BS 110a has a NB-IoT manager 241 that can be configured to configure narrowband uplink transmissions using an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four. Figure 2 As shown in FIG. 1 , the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120a has a NB-IoT manager 281 that can be configured to perform narrowband uplink transmissions using an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four, in accordance with various aspects described herein. Although shown at the controller / processor, other components of the UE 120a and the BS 110a can also be used to perform the operations described herein.
[0050] NR can utilize orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) on uplink and downlink. NR can support half-duplex operation using time division duplex (TDD). OFDM and single carrier frequency division multiplexing (SC-FDM) divide the system bandwidth into multiple orthogonal subcarriers, which are also often called frequency modulation, frequency slot, etc. Each subcarrier can be modulated with data. Modulation codewords can be sent in the frequency domain with OFDM and in the time domain with SC-FDM. The spacing between adjacent subcarriers can be fixed, and the total number of subcarriers can depend on the system bandwidth. The minimum resource allocation (so-called resource block (RB)) can be 12 consecutive subcarriers. The system bandwidth can also be divided into subbands. For example, one subband can cover multiple RBs. NR can support a base subcarrier spacing (SCS) of 15KHz, and other SCSs (e.g., 30kHz, 60kHz, 120kHz, 240kHz, etc.) can be defined relative to the base SCS.
[0051] Figure 3 300 is a diagram showing an example of a frame format for NR. The transmission timeline of each of the downlink and uplink may be divided into units of radio frames. Each radio frame may have a predetermined duration (e.g., 10 ms) and may be divided into 10 subframes with indices 0 to 9, each subframe being 1 ms. Each subframe may include a variable number of slots (e.g., 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ... slots), depending on the SCS. Each slot may include a variable number of symbol periods (e.g., 7 or 14 symbols), depending on the SCS. An index may be assigned to the symbol period in each slot. A mini slot (which may be referred to as a subslot structure) refers to a transmission time interval having a duration less than a slot (e.g., 2, 3, or 4 symbols). Each symbol in a slot may indicate a link direction (e.g., DL, UL, or flexible) for data transmission, and the link direction for each subframe may be dynamically switched. The link direction may be based on the slot format. Each time slot may include DL / UL data and DL / UL control information.
[0052] Example Random Access Procedure
[0053] Figure 44 is a call flow diagram 400 illustrating an example four-step RACH procedure in accordance with certain aspects of the present disclosure. A first message (MSG1) may be sent from a UE 104 to a BS 102 on a physical random access channel (PRACH). In this case, MSG1 may include only a RACH preamble 404. BS 102 may respond with a random access response (RAR) message 406 (MSG2), which may include an identifier (ID) of the RACH preamble, a timing advance (TA), an uplink grant, a cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI), and a backoff indicator (BI). MSG2 may include a PDCCH communication including control information regarding subsequent communications on a PDSCH (e.g., scheduling reception of subsequent communications on the PDSCH), as illustrated. In response to MSG2, MSG3 is transmitted from UE 104 to BS 102 on a PUSCH 408. MSG3 may include one or more of an RRC connection request, a tracking area update request, a system information request, a location fix or location signal request, or a scheduling request. BS 102 then responds with MSG4, which may include a contention resolution message 410. In some cases, UE 104 may also receive system information 402 (e.g., also referred to herein as a system information message) indicating various communication parameters that may be used by UE 104 to communicate with BS 102.
[0054] Exemplary uplink aspects for NB-IoT
[0055] Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques for using a coded modulation scheme (MCS) associated with a modulation order of at least four for narrowband Internet of Things (IoT) communications. One type of modulation and coding scheme (MCS) is 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM), which may be configurable for several use cases. For example, 16-QAM-based transmissions may be configurable for certain narrowband physical uplink shared channel (NPUSCH) transmissions but not for other transmissions. When 16-QAM is not configurable, a legacy MCS and corresponding TBS may be used. Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to uplink transmissions (e.g., via NPUSCH) using an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four, such as 16-QAM.
[0056] Figure 5 5 is a flow diagram illustrating example operations 500 for wireless communications, in accordance with certain aspects of the present disclosure. Operations 500 may be performed, for example, by a BS, such as BS 110a in wireless communication network 100, for example.
[0057] Operation 500 may be implemented as a processor on one or more processors (e.g., Figure 2 In addition, signal transmission and reception by the BS in operation 500 may be performed by, for example, one or more antennas (e.g., Figure 2 In some aspects, signal transmission and / or reception by the BS may be achieved by obtaining and / or outputting signals via a bus interface of one or more processors (eg, controller / processor 240).
[0058] Operations 500 may begin at block 505, where the BS generates a configuration message for NB-IoT communications indicating one or more parameters for uplink transmissions using an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four (e.g., 16-QAM). The configuration message may be any combination of higher layer RRC / MAC-CE (e.g., semi-static) signaling and physical layer DCI (e.g., dynamic) signaling. At block 510, the BS transmits the configuration message, and at block 515, receives the uplink transmission according to the one or more parameters.
[0059] Figure 6 6 is a flow diagram illustrating example operations 600 for wireless communications, in accordance with certain aspects of the present disclosure. Operations 600 may be performed, for example, by a UE (eg, such as UE 120a in wireless communication network 100).
[0060] Operation 600 may be implemented as a processor on one or more processors (e.g., Figure 2 In addition, signal transmission and reception by the UE in operation 600 may be performed by one or more antennas (e.g., Figure 2 In some aspects, signal transmission and / or reception by the UE may be achieved by obtaining and / or outputting signals via a bus interface of one or more processors (eg, controller / processor 280).
[0061] Operations 600 may begin at block 605, where the UE receives a configuration message for NB-IoT communications indicating one or more parameters for uplink transmission using an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four (e.g., 16-QAM). At block 610, the UE generates the uplink transmission, and at block 615, sends the uplink transmission according to the one or more parameters.
[0062] As described herein, a base station may configure NPUSCH with 16-QAM in certain configuration scenarios. As an example, if NPUSCH (e.g., for normal data transmission) is associated with a cell-C-RNTI except during random access, the NPUSCH transmission may be configured with 16-QAM. As an example, one or more fields of each of a plurality of candidate DCIs may differ based on the type of radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) associated with the candidate DCI. That is, the DCI fields and their interpretations may be different for different types of RNTIs (e.g., SPS C-RNTI) associated with the DCI. For example, depending on the RNTI associated with the DCI, bits in the bit stream of the DCI may be interpreted differently. For example, if the DCI is associated with RNTI1, bits b0-b3 of the DCI may represent (e.g., decoded to indicate) the MCS and bits b4-b7 may represent the number of repetitions. However, for a DCI associated with RNTI2, b0-b2 may represent (eg, be decoded to indicate) MCS, bits b3-b5 of the DCI may indicate the number of repetitions, and bits b6-b7 may represent power control.
[0063] 16-QAM may be configurable only for certain types of NPUSCH. For example, 16-QAM may be configurable only for certain types of information (e.g., via DCI), but not for other types of information (e.g., if the DCI is associated with an SPS C-RNTI, 16-QAM may not be configurable). In other words, the configuration message may include a DCI selected from a subset of candidate DCIs (e.g., candidate DCIs that are configurable for any MCS associated with a modulation order of at least two).
[0064] In some implementations, 16-QAM may not be configurable for NPUSCH transmissions. For example, as described, 16-QAM may not be configurable for NPUSCH associated with a semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) C-RNTI (uplink SPS for buffer status reporting (BSR)). 16-QAM may also not be configurable for: NPUSCH format 2 transmissions (e.g., for acknowledgement (ACK) / negative ACK (NACK) / scheduling request (SR)), NPUSCH with subcarrier spacing Δf=3.75kHz (e.g., provided by a random access response (RAR)), non-early data transmission (EDT) message 3 (MSG3) NPUSCH in response to a random access response, and NPUSCH scheduled by a narrowband physical downlink control channel (NPDCCH) in a common search space. As an example, 16-QAM may be configurable only for certain subcarrier spacing configurations (e.g., 15KHz), but not for other subcarrier spacing configurations (e.g., 3.75KHz). In other words, there may be separate configurability via higher layer signaling for implementing 16-QAM for different types of NPUSCH transmissions.EDT is a feature in which a UE may be given an uplink (UL) grant for transmitting data in MSG3 of a random access procedure.
[0065] In certain aspects, whether to configure 16-QAM-based NPUSCH may depend on the number of transport blocks scheduled by the DCI. In certain implementations, a single DCI may schedule multiple transport blocks (TBs) (e.g., the TB number field N). TB >1). In some aspects, 16QAM-based NPUSCH can be used only in N TB = 1, and the old NPUSCH (e.g., transmitted via Qm = 2) is configurable for N TB >1 may be configurable. In other words, the configurability of 16-QAM may depend on the number of configured transport blocks (N TB ).
[0066] In certain aspects, 16-QAM may be configurable for preconfigured uplink resources (PUR). PUR generally refers to resources that may be preconfigured (e.g., via RRC signaling) for uplink transmission in the first message (MSG1) of a random access procedure, thereby allowing the UE to perform a random access procedure without having to complete a random access procedure involving four messages (e.g., a random access preamble message (MSG1), a random access response (RAR) message (MSG2), a contention request message (MSG3), and a contention response message (MSG4), as described with respect to Figure 4The PUR may allow data transmission in MSG1 for UEs that have a valid timing advance and can be pre-configured to transmit messages directly from idle mode. Dedicated RRC signaling may be used in the PUR configuration process.
[0067] Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to fallback procedures. For example, a UE may be configured with a 16-QAM-based PUR configuration and a legacy PUR configuration (e.g., for uplink transmission using an MCS associated with a modulation order less than four (e.g., quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK))). The UE may fall back to the legacy PUR configuration when communication using the 16QAM-based PUR configuration fails. Alternatively, when communication using the 16QAM-based PUR configuration fails, the UE may fall back to using early data transmission (EDT) or a legacy RACH procedure. As described herein, EDT is a feature in which a UE may be given an UL grant for transmitting data in MSG3 of a random access procedure. In other words, the UE may determine that an uplink transmission using an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four has failed. The UE may then transmit another uplink transmission in response to the determination and via one or more configuration parameters for another MCS associated with a modulation order less than four. The other uplink transmission may be performed via uplink resources of the EDT in a third message for another random access procedure, or may be a transmission after the random access procedure.
[0068] Certain aspects provide techniques for configuring 16-QAM for EDT. According to legacy procedures, during MSG1 and MSG3 transmissions of a random access procedure, the base station may not be able to determine whether the UE is capable of 16-QAM communications. For example, legacy EDT transmissions may be limited to 16-QAM depending on the content of the RAR message (MSG2). and QPSK. In certain aspects of the present disclosure, a dedicated narrowband physical random access channel (NPRACH) resource may be configured so that a 16-QAM capable UE may use it for random access, thereby indicating to the base station that the UE is capable of 16-QAM NPUSCH. If the UE uses resources associated with an MCS of 16-QAM for transmission of a random access preamble message (MSG1), the base station knows that the UE is 16-QAM capable and may configure the UE accordingly via a corresponding RAR message (MSG2) transmitted by the base station in response to the random access preamble message.
[0069] A UE with 16-QAM capability may be configured to transmit EDT using 16-QAM. For example, the UE may use a resource element containing MCS, TBS, and the number of resource elements linked to the 16-QAM RACH resource (N) in conjunction with an RAR indicator such as an MCS index. RU ) of the EDT-16QAM table. The interpretation of RAR can be defined separately for when 16-QAM EDT is enabled. In other words, if 16-QAM is configured, the EDT-16-QAM table can be used to interpret the MCS, TBS, and N RU bits. In some cases, for EDT, the table allows the UE to select a TBS to which the MCS is mapped, or a limited smaller set of TBSs associated with a signaled TBS (e.g., mapped to the MCS). The base station can then blindly decode the (limited) different possibilities of TBSs that the UE can select. As used herein, a table generally refers to any indication of a mapping between parameters (e.g., a mapping between MCS and TBS, as described herein).
[0070] Fig. 7A 700 is a table illustrating the mapping between various parameters such as MCS and TBS. In some aspects, the EDT-16-QAM table may have fallback entries based on: QPSK-based transmission. For example, Fig. 7A As illustrated in , a table 700 that maps candidate MCS indices to modulation orders and TBSs may be configured at a UE. Table 700 may include entries for both an MCS associated with modulation order 2 and an MCS associated with modulation order 4, as shown.
[0071] As described herein, EDT-16-QAM may have entries for a modulation order of four and a modulation order of 2 for fallback within a 16-QAM EDT structure (e.g., retransmission during MSG3). In other words, an EDT-capable UE may receive an MCS entry in an EDT 16-QAM table from a RAR (e.g., MSG2 of a RACH) indicating a QPSK (Qm=2) based transmission. In some cases, if the UE determines that it has failed to transmit data using the MCS that it was instructed to use in the 16-QAM-EDT configuration, the UE may fall back to the legacy EDT / legacy RACH procedure. In other words, the UE may use the legacy EDT preamble to request, for example, a lower MCS / TBS configuration, or abandon EDT all together and perform a 4-step RACH procedure to establish an RRC connection and transmit data in the legacy manner.
[0072] Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to power control techniques for 16-QAM configurations. Currently, power control for NB-IoT is open loop. For example, there may not be power control commands for NPUSCH transmissions that are dynamically signaled via DCI. In addition, the formula used by legacy NB-IoT UEs to determine the transmit power of NPUSCH may not have the term Δ that varies with the modulation order. TF In certain aspects of the present disclosure, for 16-QAM-based NPUSCH transmissions, power control items may be implemented for use by NB-IoT UEs supporting 16-QAM to determine the transmit power of the NPUSCH. For example, the closed-loop power control item (f c ), the UE takes the closed-loop power control term into account when determining the transmit power of the NPUSCH transmission. As another example, one or more specific open-loop power control terms (e.g., a specific nominal power term P0 and / or a specific path loss compensation term α) may be configured by a higher layer (e.g., via RRC signaling) for 16-QAM-based transmission. The one or more specific open-loop power control terms may be different from the legacy configuration using an MCS with a modulation order of, for example, 2.
[0073] In certain aspects of the present disclosure, a power control term Δ may be introduced that varies with the modulation order (QPSK / BPSK). TF In other words, Δ TF Can be used to adjust transmit power depending on whether 16-QAM, QPSK, or binary phase shift keying (BPSK) is configured. In certain aspects, if the MCS entry indicates QPSK (or any MCS associated with a modulation order less than four), then Δ TF may not exist in the power control equation. In this way, the introduction of a new term in the power control equation can be backward compatible with legacy UEs. In other words, legacy UEs can continue to assume that there is no f when determining the uplink transmit power. c or Δ TF .
[0074] Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to scheduling constraints for 16-QAM configurations. NPUSCH based on 16-QAM may be best suited for good channel conditions. As a result, only certain resource allocation configurations (e.g., number of subcarriers (n)) relative to the legacy (e.g., using an MCS of modulation order 2) may be possible. sc ), the number of resource units (N RU ), number of repetitions (N rep )) may be configurable and may be signaled for use with 16-QAM.
[0075] Figure 7BCandidate configuration parameters according to certain aspects of the present disclosure are explained. In some aspects, a resource allocation configuration for an MCS (e.g., 16-QAM) with a modulation order (Qm) of at least 4 may be a subset of possible or allowed configurations in the legacy style (e.g., using an MCS with a modulation order of 2). For example, as illustrated, an MCS with a Qm of 2 may be configurable with one of the available candidate configuration parameters 1-5. As an example, the candidate configuration parameters may include a candidate subcarrier spacing parameter, a candidate number of repetitions, or a candidate number of subcarriers parameter. On the other hand, 16-QAM may be configured with only a subset of the candidate configuration parameters (e.g., configuration parameters 3-5).
[0076] In some aspects, the NPUSCH is only sent if there is one repetition configured for the NPUSCH or the number of repetitions is less than a threshold (e.g., N rep 16-QAM can only be configured when the modulation order Q is 1). A large number of repetitions means less than ideal channel quality, which may not be suitable for 16-QAM modulation with higher data rates than, for example, QPSK. As another example, 16-QAM can only be configured if full physical resource block (PRB) allocation is configured. In other words, for modulation order Q m =4(16QAM), span(Q m ,n sc ,N RU ,N rep ) may have a higher number of effective combinations than the old (Q m =2). This can be expressed in a specification using any combination of layer 1 (eg, DCI), higher layer (eg, RRC) signaling and joint valid combinations defined in the standard.
[0077] Certain aspects relate to techniques for signaling an MCS / TBS table for a 16-QAM configuration. Conventionally, there may be a single MCS / TBS table for NPUSCH with a table for Q m =2 (e.g., QPSK). In certain aspects of the present disclosure, in order to implement 16-QAM, a m =2 and Q m =4 a table of entries for both, such as Figure 6 The first few entries in the MCS table can correspond to Q m =2, and the subsequent entries can correspond to Q m =4.
[0078] In certain aspects of the present disclosure, the UE may be configured with different tables for different MCSs (e.g., 16-QAM) (e.g., defined in the standard and stored in the UE's memory), and may determine which MCS and TBS table to use to interpret the MCS entry signaled by DCI. For example, the MCS and TBS table to be used may be semi-statically configured by RRC signaling or via DCI signaling.
[0079] Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to the joint encoding of MCS and one or more configuration parameters. For example, the DCI may implicitly indicate the MCS and TBS table to be used to interpret the MCS index. That is, the UE may read the field (set of fields) that is independently signaled in the DCI. Depending on the value of this / these fields, the UE may determine the MCS / TBS table to be used and interpret other bits in the DCI based on the determination. As an example, conventionally, the number of subcarriers n sc The same signaling method can be used regardless of other bits in the DCI. If the number of subcarriers indicated by this field is higher than a threshold (e.g., n sc =6), the UE can infer that the 16-QAM MCS / TBS table is to be used; otherwise, the UE can infer that the legacy MCS / TBS table is to be used (and the legacy DCI interpretation of the other entries). Similarly, separate fields that imply the MCS and TBS table to be used can be used to indicate N rep For example, N indicates that one repetition is used for uplink transmission. rep This implies using the MCS / TBS table for 16-QAM and the attendant interpretation of the remaining DCI bits.
[0080] Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to signaling of DCI. For example, depending on whether the UE is expected to transmit NPUSCH based on 16-QAM, the interpretation of (some) DCI bits in a DCI format (e.g., DCI format N0) may be different from the old style. Alternatively, a separate DCI format with potentially different DCI sizes may be introduced. Certain aspects provide techniques for jointly encoding MCS and configuration parameters (such as, number of repetitions). As described herein, entries for higher MCS (e.g., MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four) are used for various configuration parameters (such as, N rep ,n sc ,N RU) may have fewer jointly valid options. As an example, if the MCS entry (e.g., in the MCS table to be used) indicates 16-QAM, the number of bits used for the number of repetitions field may be reduced (e.g., from 3 bits to, for example, 1 or 0 bits). In other words, since the UE knows that only a limited number of repetitions are allowed for 16-QAM, the number of candidate repetitions may be reduced, thereby allowing a reduction in the number of bits used for the number of repetitions field. This may free up bits in the DCI design to signal other 16-QAM-specific L1 control parameters, such as 2 or 3-bit closed-loop power control parameters for NPUSCH, as described herein. Similar approaches may be implemented for other fields, such as encoding a resource assignment field (e.g., indicating the number of resource units (RUs)) and / or a subcarrier indication field jointly with the MCS. Which DCI field (set of DCI fields) is jointly encoded may depend on whether the MCS / TBS table is configured via RRC or implicitly signaled by the DCI. In some examples, for implicit signaling via DCI, the independent fields based on which the MCS / TBS table is determined may not be jointly encoded with the MCS.
[0081] As an example, if the MCS field (e.g., represented by bits b0-b3 of the message) indicates that Q m =2, then bits b4-b6 of the message may indicate the number of repetitions. Otherwise (e.g., the MCS field indicates that Q m =4), bit b4 may indicate the number of repetitions to be used and bits b5-b6 may indicate the closed-loop power control parameter f to be used c .

A method as in any one of Aspects 29 to 54, wherein the configuration message includes a DCI, and wherein the method further comprises: determining whether to configure an MCS associated with a modulation order of at least four via the DCI based on whether the number of transport blocks configured via the DCI is less than a threshold, the threshold corresponding to the number of transport blocks that can be configured by the DCI that can also configure any MCS associated with a modulation order of two.
[0140] The techniques described herein may be used for various wireless communication technologies, such as NR (e.g., 5G NR), 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE), Advanced LTE (LTE-A), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA), Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA), Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA), and other networks. The terms "network" and "system" are often used interchangeably. A CDMA network may implement radio technologies such as Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (UTRA), cdma2000, and the like. UTRA includes Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) and other variants of CDMA. cdma2000 covers IS-2000, IS-95, and IS-856 standards. A TDMA network may implement radio technologies such as Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). OFDMA networks can implement radio technologies such as NR (e.g., 5G RA), Evolved UTRA (E-UTRA), Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB), IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi), IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX), IEEE 802.20, Flash-OFDMA, etc. UTRA and E-UTRA are part of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). LTE and LTE-A are versions of UMTS that use E-UTRA. UTRA, E-UTRA, UMTS, LTE, LTE-A, and GSM are described in documents from an organization named "3rd Generation Partnership Project" (3GPP). cdma2000 and UMB are described in documents from an organization named "3rd Generation Partnership Project 2" (3GPP2). NR is an emerging wireless communication technology under development.
[0141] In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to the coverage area of a B node (NB) and / or a NB subsystem serving the coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used. In NR systems, the terms "cell" and BS, next-generation B node (gNB or g B node), access point (AP), distributed unit (DU), carrier, or transmission reception point (TRP) may be used interchangeably. The BS may provide communication coverage for macro cells, pico cells, femto cells, and / or other types of cells. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several thousand meters) and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with service subscriptions. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access by UEs with service subscriptions. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a residence) and may allow restricted access by UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG), UEs of users in a residence, etc.). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico BS. A BS for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS.
[0142] UE may also be referred to as a mobile station, terminal, access terminal, subscriber unit, station, customer premises equipment (CPE), cellular phone, smart phone, personal digital assistant (PDA), wireless modem, wireless communication device, handheld device, laptop computer, cordless phone, wireless local loop (WLL) station, tablet computer, camera, gaming device, netbook, smartbook, ultrabook, appliance, medical device or medical equipment, biometric sensor / device, wearable device (such as smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., smart ring, smart bracelet, etc.)), entertainment device (e.g., music device, video device, satellite radio, etc.), transportation component or sensor, smart meter / sensor, industrial manufacturing equipment, global positioning system device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via wireless or wired medium. A wireless node can provide connectivity for or to a network (e.g., a wide area network (such as the Internet) or a cellular network), for example, via a wired or wireless communication link. Some UEs may be considered Internet of Things (IoT) devices, which may be narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) devices.
[0143] In some examples, access to the air interface may be scheduled. A scheduling entity (e.g., BS) allocates resources for communication between some or all devices and equipment within its service area or cell. A scheduling entity may be responsible for scheduling, assigning, reconfiguring, and releasing resources for one or more subordinate entities. That is, for scheduled communications, subordinate entities utilize resources allocated by the scheduling entity. A base station is not the only entity that can be used as a scheduling entity. In some examples, a UE may act as a scheduling entity, and may schedule resources for one or more subordinate entities (e.g., one or more other UEs), and other UEs may utilize resources scheduled by the UE for wireless communication. In some examples, a UE may act as a scheduling entity in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network and / or in a mesh network. In a mesh network example, UEs may communicate directly with each other in addition to communicating with a scheduling entity.

These software modules include instructions that cause a processing system to perform various functions when executed by an apparatus such as a processor. These software modules may include a transmission module and a receiving module. Each software module may reside in a single storage device or may be distributed across multiple storage devices. As an example, when a triggering event occurs, a software module may be loaded into a RAM from a hard drive. During the execution of a software module, a processor may load some instructions into a cache to increase access speed. One or more cache lines may then be loaded into a general register file for execution by the processor. When describing the functionality of a software module as described below, it will be understood that such functionality is implemented by the processor when the processor executes instructions from the software module.
[0153] Likewise, any connection is properly termed a computer-readable medium. For example, if the software is transmitted from a website, server, or other remote source using a coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, twisted pair, digital subscriber line (DSL), or wireless technology (such as infrared (IR), radio, and microwave), then the coaxial cable, fiber optic cable, twisted pair, DSL, or wireless technology (such as infrared, radio, and microwave) is included in the definition of medium.
