[0003] introduction

[0004] The following relates to wireless communications and, more particularly, to managing data communications.

[0005] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content, such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcasting, etc. These systems may be able to support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power). Examples of such multiple access systems include fourth generation (4G) systems (such as long term evolution (LTE) systems, advanced LTE (LTE-A) systems, or LTE-A Pro systems), and fifth generation (5G) systems, which may be referred to as new radio (NR) systems. These systems may use various technologies, such as code division multiple access (CDMA), time division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), or discrete Fourier transform extended orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM). A wireless multiple access communication system may include one or more base stations or one or more network access nodes, each base station or network access node simultaneously supporting the communication of multiple communication devices, which may be referred to as user equipment (UE) in addition.

[0006] The base station and wireless device may perform multiple communications of the same data set to increase the likelihood that the data set will be successfully received and decoded by the recipient device.

[0081] Detailed Description

[0082] A single data set may be included in multiple transmissions directed to a receiving device, each of which may be referred to as a repetition and associated with a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) process. The receiving device may report acknowledgment feedback (e.g., HARQ-acknowledgement (ACK) feedback) for each repetition received at the receiving device, wherein the transmitting device may be configured to send the repetition until a positive ACK is received from the receiving device (or until a retransmission limit is reached). Thus, the number of repetitions may vary based on current channel conditions—for example, when the measured signal-to-noise ratio is above a threshold and a positive ACK is typically received for the first or second repetition, fewer repetitions may be transmitted. In order to distinguish the transmission of repeated data from the transmission of original (or new) data—for example, because the number of repetitions may vary—a control message for scheduling data transmission may include an indication of whether the scheduled data transmission carries original data or carries repeated data. The indication (which may be referred to as a new data indicator) may be implemented using a single bit that remains constant between control messages scheduling transmissions of the same data set and flips (or switches) between control messages scheduling transmissions of different data sets.

[0083] In some cases, one or more HARQ processes associated with repeated transmissions of one or more data sets may be performed without being accompanied by acknowledgment feedback—for example, when the round-trip time for performing the transmission and receiving the acknowledgment feedback exceeds a threshold (for example, for non-terrestrial networks). In some cases, the number of repeated transmissions may vary—for example, based on channel conditions observed by the transmitting device—but the transmitting device may not indicate the number of repeated transmissions to the receiving device. In such a case, the receiving device may similarly use the new data indicator received in the control message to determine whether the data transmission is scheduled to include new data. However, if the receiving device misses a control message that includes a flipped new data indicator (for example, from 0 to 1) and receives a subsequent control message that includes a flipped new data indicator (for example, from 1 back to 0), the receiving device may not be able to determine that the scheduled data transmission is scheduled to include new data relative to the previously received data transmission—for example, based on detecting consecutive new data indicator values of 0. In some cases, the probability that the receiving device cannot determine that the data transmission is scheduled to include new data is equal to the probability that the receiving device cannot decode the downlink control message.

[0084] In order to enable a receiving device to distinguish with increased reliability between transmissions scheduled to include new data and transmissions scheduled to include repeated data, techniques for indicating whether a transmission is scheduled to include new data when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled for one or more HARQ processes associated with the transmission may be enhanced.

[0085] In some examples, when an acknowledgment feedback reporting mode is disabled, a field of a downlink control message (e.g., a scheduling message or an uplink grant) that includes a new data indicator (which may be referred to as a new data indicator (NDI) field) may increase in size (e.g., from one bit to multiple bits).

[0086] Additionally or alternatively, when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, unused fields (e.g., padding fields) of the downlink control message may be used to convey the new data indicator (thereby effectively increasing the size of the NDI field). In some cases, the unused fields include fields used to support acknowledgment feedback reporting when acknowledgment feedback reporting mode is enabled (e.g., index fields, power control fields, resource indication fields, etc.).

[0087] Additionally or alternatively, when the acknowledgment feedback reporting mode is disabled, information included in an additional field (eg, a coding field) of the downlink control message may be used to supplement the information provided in the NDI field.

[0088] In some examples, when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, timing parameters may be used to supplement the information included in the NDI field. The timing parameters may establish a threshold amount of time (e.g., measured in time slots or milliseconds) between the transmission of new data and the transmission of repeated data. The receiving device may use the threshold amount of time to determine that a data transmission that appears to be scheduled for repeated data is actually scheduled for new data based on determining that a time for repeated transmissions of a data set has expired.

[0089] By increasing the size of the NDI field, the probability of mistaking new data for duplicate data can be reduced. Similarly, by using information in other fields to supplement the information included in the field including the new data indicator, the probability of mistaking new data for duplicate data can be reduced. Additionally or alternatively, by introducing a time limit for the transmission of duplicate data, the probability of mistaking new data for duplicate data can be reduced. Reducing the probability of mistaking new data for duplicate data can reduce the bit error rate and / or packet failure rate of communications received at the communication device. In some examples, reducing the packet failure rate can reduce the number of radio link control layer retransmissions of packets, thereby increasing the throughput of the wireless communication system and improving the user experience.

[0090] Various aspects of the present disclosure are initially described in the context of a wireless communication system. Specific examples of exemplary control message configurations and exemplary operation sequences for indicating raw data communications are then described. Various aspects of the present disclosure are further illustrated and described by and with reference to apparatus diagrams, system diagrams, and flow charts related to indicating raw data communications.

[0091] Figure 1An example of a wireless communication system 100 supporting communication of indication raw data according to one or more aspects of the present disclosure is illustrated. The wireless communication system 100 may include one or more base stations 105, one or more UEs 115, and a core network 130. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, an advanced LTE (LTE-A) network, an LTE-A Pro network, or a new radio (NR) network. In some examples, the wireless communication system 100 may support enhanced broadband communication, ultra-reliable (e.g., mission-critical) communication, low latency communication, communication with low-cost and low-complexity devices, or any combination thereof.

[0092] The base stations 105 may be dispersed throughout a geographic area to form the wireless communication system 100, and may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. The base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may communicate wirelessly via one or more communication links 125. Each base station 105 may provide a coverage area 110 over which the UEs 115 and the base stations 105 may establish one or more communication links 125. The coverage area 110 may be an example of a geographic area over which the base stations 105 and the UEs 115 may support communication of signals according to one or more radio access technologies.

[0093] The UEs 115 may be dispersed throughout the coverage area 110 of the wireless communication system 100, and each UE 115 may be stationary or mobile, or stationary and mobile at different times. The UEs 115 may be different forms of devices or devices with different capabilities. Figure 1 Some example UEs 115 are illustrated in FIG. 1. The UEs 115 described herein may be capable of communicating with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, base stations 105, or network equipment (e.g., core network nodes, relay devices, integrated access and backhaul (IAB) nodes, or other network equipment), such as Figure 1 as shown in .

[0094] Each base station 105 may communicate with the core network 130, or communicate with each other, or both. For example, the base station 105 may interface with the core network 130 via one or more backhaul links 120 (e.g., via S1, N2, N3, or another interface). The base stations 105 may communicate with each other directly (e.g., directly between the base stations 105), or indirectly (e.g., via the core network 130), or directly and indirectly on the backhaul link 120 (e.g., via X2, Xn, or other interfaces). In some examples, the backhaul link 120 may be or include one or more wireless links. The UE 115 may communicate with the core network 130 via a communication link 155.

[0095] One or more of the base stations 105 described herein may include or may be referred to by a person of ordinary skill in the art as a base transceiver station, a radio base station, an access point, a radio transceiver, a B node, an evolved B node (eNB), a next generation B node or a gigabit B node (any of which may be referred to as a gNB), a home B node, a home evolved B node, or other suitable terminology.

[0096] UE 115 may include or may be referred to as a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a handheld device, or a subscriber device, or some other suitable term, where a "device" may also be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, etc. UE 115 may also include or may be referred to as a personal electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a tablet computer, a laptop computer, or a personal computer. In some examples, UE 115 may include or be referred to as a wireless local loop (WLL) station, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, an Internet of Everything (IoE) device, or a machine type communication (MTC) device, etc., which may be implemented in various objects such as electrical appliances or vehicles, meters, etc.

[0097] The UE 115 described herein may be able to communicate with various types of devices, such as other UEs 115, which may sometimes act as relays, as well as base stations 105 and network equipment including macro eNBs or gNBs, small cell eNBs or gNBs, relay base stations, etc. Figure 1 as shown in .

[0098] The UE 115 and the base station 105 may communicate wirelessly with each other via one or more communication links 125 on one or more carriers. The term "carrier" may refer to a set of radio frequency spectrum resources having a defined physical layer structure for supporting the communication link 125. For example, a carrier for the communication link 125 may include a portion of a radio frequency spectrum band (e.g., a bandwidth portion (BWP)) that operates according to one or more physical layer channels for a given radio access technology (e.g., LTE, LTE-A, LTE-A Pro, NR). Each physical layer channel may carry acquisition signaling (e.g., synchronization signals, system information), control signaling for coordinating carrier operations, user data, or other signaling. The wireless communication system 100 may support communication with the UE 115 using carrier aggregation or multi-carrier operation. The UE 115 may be configured to have multiple downlink component carriers and one or more uplink component carriers according to a carrier aggregation configuration. Carrier aggregation may be used in conjunction with both frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) component carriers.

[0099] The signal waveform transmitted on the carrier may include multiple subcarriers (e.g., using multi-carrier modulation (MCM) techniques, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-S-OFDM)). In a system using MCM technology, a resource element may include a code element period (e.g., the duration of a modulation code element) and a subcarrier, where the code element period and the subcarrier spacing are inversely related. The number of bits carried by each resource element may depend on the modulation scheme (e.g., the order of the modulation scheme, the code rate of the modulation scheme, or both). Thus, the more resource elements received by UE 115 and the higher the order of the modulation scheme, the higher the data rate of UE 115 can be. Wireless communication resources may refer to a combination of radio frequency spectrum resources, time resources, and spatial resources (e.g., spatial layers or beams), and the use of multiple spatial layers can further improve the data rate or data integrity of communication with UE 115.

[0100] The time interval of the base station 105 or the UE 115 can be expressed as a multiple of a basic time unit, and the basic time unit can be, for example, a sampling period T s =1 / (Δf max ·N f ) seconds, where Δf max Nf may represent the maximum supported subcarrier spacing, and Nf may represent the maximum supported discrete Fourier transform (DFT) size. Time intervals of communication resources may be organized according to radio frames, each having a specified duration (e.g., 10 milliseconds (ms)). Each radio frame may be identified by a system frame number (SFN) (e.g., ranging from 0 to 1023).

[0101] Each frame may include a plurality of consecutively numbered subframes or time slots, and each subframe or time slot may have the same duration. In some examples, a frame may be divided into subframes (e.g., in the time domain), and each subframe may be further divided into a number of time slots. Alternatively, each frame may include a variable number of time slots, and the number of time slots may depend on the subcarrier spacing. Each time slot may include a number of codeword periods (e.g., depending on the length of the cyclic prefix added before each codeword period). In some examples, a time slot may be further divided into a plurality of mini-time slots containing one or more codewords. Excluding the cyclic prefix, each codeword period may contain one or more (e.g., N f The duration of a symbol period may depend on the subcarrier spacing or the operating band.

[0102] A subframe, slot, mini-slot, or symbol may be the smallest scheduling unit (e.g., in the time domain) of the wireless communication system 100 and may be referred to as a transmission time interval (TTI). In some examples, the TTI duration (e.g., the number of symbol periods in a TTI) may be variable. Additionally or alternatively, the smallest scheduling unit of the wireless communication system 100 may be dynamically selected (e.g., in bursts of shortened TTIs (sTTIs)).

[0103] Physical channels may be multiplexed on a carrier according to various techniques. Physical control channels and physical data channels may be multiplexed on a downlink carrier, for example, using one or more of a time division multiplexing (TDM) technique, a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technique, or a hybrid TDM-FDM technique. A control region (e.g., a control resource set (CORESET)) for a physical control channel may be defined by a number of symbol periods and may extend across a system bandwidth or a subset of a system bandwidth of a carrier. One or more control regions (e.g., CORESETs) may be configured for a set of UEs 115. For example, one or more of the UEs 115 may monitor or search a control region for control information according to one or more search space sets, and each search space set may include one or more control channel candidates in one or more aggregation levels arranged in a cascaded manner. An aggregation level for a control channel candidate may refer to the number of control channel resources (e.g., control channel elements (CCEs)) associated with coded information for a control information format having a given payload size. The search space sets may include a common search space set configured for transmitting control information to multiple UEs 115 and a UE-specific search space set for transmitting control information to a specific UE 115 .

[0104] In some examples, base stations 105 may be mobile and thus provide communication coverage for mobile geographic coverage areas 110. In some examples, different geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas 110 may be supported by the same base station 105. In other examples, overlapping geographic coverage areas 110 associated with different technologies may be supported by different base stations 105. The wireless communication system 100 may include, for example, a heterogeneous network in which different types of base stations 105 provide coverage for various geographic coverage areas 110 using the same or different radio access technologies.

[0105] The wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable communication or low latency communication or various combinations thereof. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) or mission-critical communication. UE 115 may be designed to support ultra-reliable, low latency or critical functions (e.g., mission-critical functions). Ultra-reliable communication may include private communication or group communication, and may be supported by one or more mission-critical services (such as mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT), mission-critical video (MCVideo), or mission-critical data (MCData). Support for mission-critical functions may include prioritization of services, and mission-critical services may be used for public safety or commercial applications. The terms ultra-reliable, low latency, critical mission, and ultra-reliable low latency may be used interchangeably herein.

[0106] In some examples, UE 115 may also be able to communicate directly with other UE 115 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link 135 (e.g., using a peer-to-peer (P2P) or D2D protocol). One or more UEs 115 utilizing D2D communication may be within a geographic coverage area 110 of a base station 105. Other UEs 115 in such a group may be outside the geographic coverage area 110 of the base station 105, or may not be able to receive transmissions from the base station 105 for other reasons. In some examples, each group of UEs 115 communicating via D2D communication may utilize a one-to-many (1:M) system, wherein each UE 115 transmits to each other UE 115 in the group. In some examples, the base station 105 facilitates the scheduling of resources for D2D communication. In other cases, D2D communication is performed between each UE 115 without involving the base station 105.

[0107] The core network 130 may provide user authentication, access authorization, tracking, Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 130 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) or a 5G core (5GC), and the EPC or 5GC may include at least one control plane entity (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME), an access and mobility management function (AMF)) for managing access and mobility, and at least one user plane entity (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW), a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW), or a user plane function (UPF)) for routing packets or interconnecting to an external network. The control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management of UE 115 served by a base station 105 associated with the core network 130. User IP packets may be delivered via a user plane entity, which may provide IP address allocation and other functions. The user plane entity may be connected to a network operator IP service 150. Operator IP services 150 may include access to the Internet, an intranet, an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), or packet-switched streaming services.

[0108] Some network devices (such as base stations 105) may include subcomponents, such as access network entities 140, which may be examples of access node controllers (ANCs). Each access network entity 140 may communicate with each UE 115 through one or more other access network transport entities 145, which may be referred to as radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission / reception points (TRPs). Each access network transport entity 145 may include one or more antenna panels. In some configurations, the various functions of each access network entity 140 or base station 105 may be distributed across various network devices (e.g., radio heads and ANCs) or merged into a single network device (e.g., base station 105).

[0109] The wireless communication system 100 may operate using one or more frequency bands in the range of, for example, 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz). The 300 MHz to 3 GHz region may be referred to as the ultra-high frequency (UHF) region or decimeter band because the wavelengths range from about 1 decimeter to 1 meter long. UHF waves may be blocked or redirected by buildings and environmental features, but these waves may penetrate various structures sufficiently for macro cells to provide service to UEs 115 located indoors. Transmission of UHF waves may be associated with smaller antennas and shorter ranges (e.g., less than 100 kilometers) than transmission using lower frequencies and longer waves in the high frequency (HF) or very high frequency (VHF) portions of the spectrum below 300 MHz.

[0110] The electromagnetic spectrum is typically subdivided into various classes, bands, channels, etc. based on frequency / wavelength. In 5G NR, two initial operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz–7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 GHz–52.6 GHz). It should be understood that although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often (interchangeably) referred to as the “sub-6 GHz” band in various documents and articles. Similar naming issues sometimes arise with respect to FR2, which is often (interchangeably) referred to as the “millimeter wave” band in various documents and articles, although it is different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz–300 GHz) identified as the “millimeter wave” band by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

[0111] Frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are generally referred to as mid-band frequencies. Recent 5G NR research has identified the operating bands of these mid-band frequencies as frequency range designation FR3 (7.125GHz–24.25GHz). The frequency bands falling within FR3 can inherit FR1 characteristics and / or FR2 characteristics, and thus the features of FR1 and / or FR2 can be effectively extended to mid-band frequencies. Additionally, higher frequency bands are currently being explored to extend 5G NR operations to above 52.6GHz. For example, three higher operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6GHz–71GHz), FR4 (52.6GHz–114.25GHz), and FR5 (114.25GHz–300GHz). Each of these higher frequency bands falls within the EHF band.

[0112] In view of the above aspects, unless otherwise specifically stated, it should be understood that if used in this document, the term "sub-6 GHz" and the like can broadly refer to frequencies that can be less than 6 GHz, can be within FR1, or can include mid-band frequencies. In addition, unless otherwise specifically stated, it should be understood that if used in this document, the term "millimeter wave" and the like can broadly refer to frequencies that can include mid-band frequencies, can be within FR2, FR4, FR4-a or FR4-1 and / or FR5, or can be within the EHF band.

[0113] The wireless communication system 100 may utilize both licensed and unlicensed radio frequency spectrum bands. For example, the wireless communication system 100 may employ licensed assisted access (LAA), LTE unlicensed (LTE-U) radio access technology, or NR technology in an unlicensed band (such as the 5 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band). When operating in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, devices (such as base stations 105 and UEs 115) may employ carrier sensing for conflict detection and avoidance. In some examples, operations in an unlicensed band may be based on a carrier aggregation configuration (e.g., LAA) in coordination with component carriers operating in a licensed band. Operations in an unlicensed spectrum may include downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions, P2P transmissions, or D2D transmissions, among others.

[0114] The base station 105 or UE 115 may be equipped with multiple antennas, which can be used to employ technologies such as transmit diversity, receive diversity, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, or beamforming. The antennas of the base station 105 or UE 115 may be located in one or more antenna arrays or antenna panels that can support MIMO operations or transmit or receive beamforming. For example, one or more base station antennas or antenna arrays may be co-located at an antenna assembly (such as an antenna tower). In some examples, the antennas or antenna arrays associated with the base station 105 may be located at different geographical locations. The base station 105 may have an antenna array having antenna ports of several rows and columns that the base station 105 can use to support beamforming for communications with the UE 115. Similarly, the UE 115 may have one or more antenna arrays that can support various MIMO or beamforming operations. Additionally or alternatively, the antenna panel may support radio frequency beamforming for signals transmitted via the antenna ports.

[0115] Beamforming (which may also be referred to as spatial filtering, directional transmission, or directional reception) is a signal processing technique that may be used at a transmitting device or a receiving device (e.g., a base station 105, a UE 115) to shape or steer an antenna beam (e.g., a transmit beam, a receive beam) along a spatial path between the transmitting device and the receiving device. Beamforming may be achieved by combining signals communicated via antenna elements of an antenna array so that some signals propagating at a particular orientation relative to the antenna array experience constructive interference, while other signals experience destructive interference. Adjustments to signals communicated via antenna elements may include the transmitting device or the receiving device applying an amplitude offset, a phase offset, or both to signals carried via antenna elements associated with the device. Adjustments associated with each antenna element may be defined by a set of beamforming weights associated with a particular orientation (e.g., relative to the antenna array of the transmitting device or the receiving device, or relative to some other orientation).

[0116] The wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support consecutive transmissions of the same data set. In some cases, all of these consecutive transmissions may be referred to as repeated transmissions or repetitions. In some cases, a first transmission may be referred to as conveying original (or new) data, and a subsequent transmission may be referred to as carrying repeated data. In some cases, a first transmission may be referred to as an initial transmission and a second transmission may be referred to as a repetition.

[0117] The process of performing multiple transmissions of the same data set may be referred to as a HARQ procedure, and the multiple transmissions may be referred to as HARQ transmissions. The HARQ procedure may include a combination of error detection (e.g., using a cyclic redundancy check (CRC)), forward error correction (FEC), and retransmission (e.g., automatic repeat request (ARQ)). The HARQ procedure may improve the throughput of the medium access control (MAC) layer in poor radio conditions (e.g., low signal-to-noise ratio conditions). That is, if the receiving device is unable to decode the initial transmission (e.g., due to short-term interference), the receiving device may be able to decode subsequent repetitions—e.g., after the short-term interference has stopped or faded. Additionally or alternatively, the receiving device may combine the received initial transmission and the received subsequent repetitions and decode the combined versions of the transmissions (e.g., using signal combining techniques). In some examples, the transmitting device and the receiving device may be configured to support multiple concurrent HARQ processes. That is, a first HARQ process may be associated with a first data set transmitted between a transmitting device and a receiving device using multiple transmissions, a second HARQ process may be associated with a second data set transmitted between the transmitting device and the receiving device using multiple transmissions, and so on.

[0118] Signaling mechanisms may be used to enable a receiving device to distinguish between the transmission of new data and the transmission of repeated data. In some cases, the downlink control information is configured to include a field for indicating whether the data transmission (e.g., uplink or downlink) scheduled by the downlink control information includes new data or repeated data. In some examples, the field has a length of one bit and includes a new data indicator, wherein the value of the new data indicator is flipped (or switched) when the transmission carries new data relative to the previous transmission. For example, a downlink control message scheduling an initial transmission may include a new data indicator having a first value (e.g., 0). And a downlink control message scheduling a repetition of the initial transmission may also include a new data indicator having the first value. Subsequently—for example, after the data and repetitions included in the initial transmission are received and decoded by the receiving device—a downlink control message scheduling another initial transmission may include a new data indicator having a second value (e.g., 1). And a downlink control message scheduling a repetition of the other initial transmission may also include a new data indicator having the second value. And so on.

[0119] In order to further increase the reliability of the transmission of the data set, the wireless communication system 100 can be configured to support the coherent transmission of multiple versions of the same data set. In some examples, the initial transmission is transmitted using a first decoded bit set, and the repetition is transmitted using a second decoded bit set. The second decoded bit set may be different from the first decoded bit set. Therefore, when the initial transmission is combined with the repetition, the effective code rate for the communicated information can be reduced to increase the possibility that the communicated information will be decoded. In some cases, different versions of the same data set may be referred to as redundant versions. The wireless communication system 100 may support several redundant versions (e.g., RV0, RV1, RV2, RV3, etc.) using different bit sets. In some cases, the transmission performed using the first bit set is performed according to the first redundant version (e.g., RV0), and the transmission performed using the second bit set is performed according to the second redundant version (e.g., RV2).

[0120] In some examples, a redundant version sequence for repeated transmissions is established. That is, the transmitting device may transmit an initial transmission according to RV0, a first repetition according to RV2, a second repetition according to RV3, and a third repetition according to RV1. In some examples, the repetition cycle may be repeated, and a fourth repetition may be transmitted according to RV0, a fifth repetition may be transmitted according to RV2, and so on. A signaling mechanism may be used to enable a receiving device to distinguish between transmissions using different redundant versions. For example, a downlink control message may include a decoding field (e.g., a redundant version (RV) identification (RVID) field) indicating a redundant version for a scheduled transmission. In some cases, control signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) or downlink control information (DCI) messaging) may be used to indicate a mode for a redundant version sequence.

[0121] In order to reduce the number of repeated transmissions performed by the transmitting device, the wireless communication system 100 may be configured to support reporting of confirmation feedback for one or more received transmissions to the transmitting device. The confirmation feedback may include positive confirmation (ACK) feedback and negative confirmation (NACK) feedback. In some examples, the receiving device transmits ACK or NACK after receiving each transmission from the transmitting device. When the confirmation feedback report is combined with the HARQ procedure, the confirmation feedback for HARQ may be referred to as HARQ-ACK feedback. In some examples, after receiving ACK from the receiving device, the transmitting device may include new data in subsequent transmissions to the receiving device. Otherwise, if the transmitting device receives NACK, the transmitting device may include the same data in subsequent transmissions to the receiving device. Then, if ACK is received for the subsequent transmission, the transmitting device may include the new data in subsequent transmissions to the receiving device. In this way, the transmitting device can use different numbers of transmissions to convey data sets, thereby increasing throughput when using fewer transmissions and increasing reliability when using more transmissions.

[0122] Signaling mechanisms may be used to support reporting of HARQ-ACK feedback. In some examples, the control message includes one or more index fields indicating an index to a transport block (or code block group) transmitted during a data resource indicated by the control message. The index may indicate to the receiving device the position within the HARQ-ACK codebook in which the acknowledgement feedback for the transport block (or code block group) is to be included. The one or more index fields may include a downlink assignment indicator (DAI), a total DAI (tDAI) field, and / or a counter DAI (cDAI) field. The control message may also include one or more resource indication fields, which indicate the position of the uplink communication resource for reporting acknowledgement feedback relative to the position of the uplink data resource scheduled by the control message. The one or more resource indication fields may include a data resource to uplink resource (e.g., a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) resource) indicator and / or a data resource to a HARQ resource (e.g., a PDSCH to a HARQ-ACK resource) indicator. The control message may also include a power control field (e.g., a transmit power control (TPC) field) indicating the power level used to transmit the HARQ feedback. In some cases, the downlink control message may include multiple versions of the above fields for each HARQ process supported by the communication between the base station 105 and the UE 115.

[0123] The wireless communication system 100 may be a terrestrial and / or non-terrestrial network. A terrestrial network may include base stations located on the ground, while a non-terrestrial network may include base stations located in the air—for example, a base station included on a payload of a satellite. Communications between a base station 105 and a UE 115 in a non-terrestrial network may be associated with a larger round-trip time. That is, the total time spent sending a downlink transmission (e.g., an initial transmission) from a satellite-based base station 105 to a UE 115 and sending a corresponding uplink transmission (e.g., an acknowledgment feedback for the initial transmission) from a UE 115 to a satellite-based base station 105 may be greater relative to sending corresponding downlink and uplink transmissions between a ground-based base station 105 and a UE 115.

[0124] As described above, a single data set may be included in multiple transmissions sent to a receiving device (e.g., base station 105 or UE 115), each of which may be referred to as a repetition and associated with a HARQ process. As also described above, a receiving device may report acknowledgment feedback (e.g., HARQ-acknowledgement (ACK) feedback) for each repetition received at the receiving device, wherein the transmitting device (e.g., base station 105 or UE 115) may be configured to send repetitions until a positive ACK is received from the receiving device (or until a retransmission limit is reached). Thus, the number of repetitions may vary based on current channel conditions—for example, fewer repetitions may be transmitted when the measured signal-to-noise ratio is above a threshold and a positive ACK is typically received for the first or second repetition. In order to distinguish the transmission of repeated data from the transmission of original (or new) data—for example, because the number of repetitions may vary—a control message for scheduling a data transmission may include an indication of whether the scheduled data transmission carries the original data or carries repeated data. This indication, which may be referred to as a new data indicator, may be implemented using a single bit that remains constant between control messages scheduling transmission of the same data set and toggles (or switches) between control messages scheduling transmission of different data sets.

[0125] In some cases, one or more HARQ processes associated with repeated transmissions of one or more data sets may be performed without being accompanied by acknowledgment feedback—for example, when the round-trip time for performing the transmission and receiving the acknowledgment feedback exceeds a threshold (for example, for non-terrestrial networks).

[0126] In order to enable a receiving device to distinguish with increased reliability between transmissions scheduled to include new data and transmissions scheduled to include repeated data, techniques for indicating whether a transmission is scheduled to include new data when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled for one or more HARQ processes associated with the transmission may be enhanced.

[0127] In some examples, when the acknowledgment feedback report is disabled, the field of the downlink control message including the new data indicator (which may be referred to as the NDI field) may be increased in size. Additionally or alternatively, when the acknowledgment feedback report is disabled, the unused fields (e.g., padding fields) of the downlink control message may be used to convey the new data indicator (thereby effectively increasing the size of the NDI field). In some cases, the unused fields include fields (e.g., index fields, power control fields, resource indication fields, etc.) used to support the acknowledgment feedback report when the acknowledgment feedback report is enabled. Additionally or alternatively, when the acknowledgment feedback report is disabled, the information included in the additional fields (e.g., decoding fields) of the downlink control message may be used to supplement the information provided in the NDI field. By increasing the size of the NDI field, the probability of mistaking new data for duplicate data can be reduced. Similarly, by using information in other fields to supplement the information included in the field including the new data indicator, the probability of mistaking new data for duplicate data can be reduced.

[0128] In some examples, when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, timing parameters may be used to supplement the information included in the NDI field. The timing parameters may establish a threshold amount of time (e.g., measured in time slots or milliseconds) between the transmission of new data and the transmission of duplicate data. The receiving device may use the threshold amount of time to determine that a data transmission that appears to be scheduled for duplicate data is actually scheduled for new data based on determining that the time for repeated transmission of the data set has expired. By introducing a time limit for the transmission of duplicate data, the probability of mistaking new data for duplicate data may be reduced.

[0129] The base station 105 may include a communication manager 101. The communication manager 101 may be configured to transmit a control message including an indication of whether the original data is scheduled to be included in the data transmission scheduled by the control message, wherein the indication is conveyed by a single bit in the control message. The communication manager 101 may also transmit a configuration message to the UE 115 to disable one or more HARQ processes supported by the base station 105 and the UE 115. After transmitting the configuration message, the communication manager 101 may transmit another control message including an indication of whether the corresponding data transmission includes the original data, wherein the indication is conveyed by multiple bits in the another control message. The communication manager 101 may then communicate (e.g., receive or transmit) the another data transmission based on whether the indication in the another control message indicates that the another data transmission includes new data.

[0130] UE 115 may include a communication manager 102. The communication manager 102 may be configured to receive a control message including an indication of whether the original (new) data is scheduled to be included in a data transmission scheduled by the control message, wherein the indication is represented by a single bit. The communication manager 102 may also be configured to receive a configuration message that configures a mode at UE 115, which disables HARQ-ACK reporting for UE 115 for one or more HARQ processes supported by UE 115. After receiving the configuration message, the communication manager 102 may be configured to receive another control message including an indication of whether the original (new) data is scheduled to be included in another data transmission scheduled by the other control message, wherein the indication is represented by multiple bits. In some cases, the second indication is associated with one of the one or more HARQ processes disabled by the configuration message. The communication manager 102 may then communicate (e.g., receive or transmit) the other data transmission based on whether the indication in the other control message indicates that the other data transmission includes new data.

[0131] The communication manager 102 may also be configured to receive a configuration message for disabling HARQ-ACK reporting for the UE 115 for one or more HARQ processes supported by the UE 115. The communication manager 102 may be configured to receive a control message indicating whether new data is included in a corresponding data transmission associated with a HARQ process in one or more disabled HARQ processes. The communication manager 102 may be configured to receive another control message indicating whether new data is included in another corresponding data transmission associated with the HARQ process. The communication manager 102 may communicate the original data set for the HARQ process based on the duration between the control message and / or the data message exceeding a threshold, even if the second indication indicates that the new data is included in the other data transmission.

[0132] Figure 2

[0013] Aspects of a wireless communication system supporting communication of indicative raw data in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated.

[0133] The wireless communication system 200 may include a base station 205 and a UE 215, which may be the base station 205 and the UE 215 as described above. Figure 1 Base station 205 and UE 215 can communicate with each other on downlink 220 and communication link 225 within coverage area 210, as described above with reference to Figure 1 In some cases, the wireless communication system 200 may include non-terrestrial aspects, and the base station 205 may be located on a payload of a satellite.

[0134] In some examples, the base station 205 may transmit a first control message 230 to the UE 215. The first control message 230 may be used to schedule communication resources for the first data message 250 and may include a first new data indicator 235. The first new data indicator may indicate whether new data is scheduled to be included in the first data message 250. In some examples, the first control message 230 schedules downlink control resources for the first data message 250—e.g., when the first control message 230 includes a downlink grant—and the base station 205 transmits the first data message 250 to the UE 215. In other examples, the first control message 230 schedules uplink control resources for the first data message 250—e.g., when the first control message 230 includes an uplink grant—and the UE 215 transmits the first data message 250 to the base station 205.

[0135] The base station 205 may also transmit a second control message 240 to the UE 215. The second control message 240 may be similarly used to schedule communication resources for the second data message 255 and may include a second new data indicator 245. The second new data indicator 245 may indicate whether new data is scheduled to be included in the second data message 255. In some examples, the UE 215 may determine whether the new data is to be included in the second data message 255 by comparing the value of the second new data indicator 245 with the value of the first new data indicator 235. If the value of the second new data indicator 245 is different from the first new data indicator 235, the UE 215 may determine that the second data message 255 includes new data—for example, when the field for indicating new data includes one bit. In some examples, the first new data indicator 235 and the second new data indicator 245 may be associated with the same HARQ process.

[0136] As described above and herein, when the indicator for indicating new data uses a single bit and acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, a receiving device (e.g., UE 215) may not be able to distinguish between whether a data transmission is scheduled to include new data or scheduled to include repeated data. In order to enable a receiving device to determine when a data transmission is scheduled to include new data and when a transmission is scheduled to include repeated data, when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, techniques for indicating whether a data transmission is scheduled to include new data can be enhanced.

[0137] In a first example for facilitating detection of a transmission scheduled for new data, a field (e.g., an NDI field) of a downlink control message including a new data indicator may be increased in size when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled. In some cases, the length of the field used to convey the first new data indicator 235 and the second new data indicator 245 may be extended. For example, the length of the field may be increased from a single bit to multiple bits (e.g., 2 bits, 3 bits, etc.). Next, instead of checking whether the value of the second new data indicator 245 has been flipped relative to the value of the first new data indicator 235, the UE 215 may check whether the value of the second new data indicator 245 is different from the value of the first new data indicator 235.

[0138] In some examples, the value of the first new data indicator 235 may be set by the base station 205 to a binary value of 00. When the second data message 255 includes repeated data, the value of the second new data indicator 245 may be set by the base station 205 to a binary value of 00. And, when the second data message 255 includes new data, the value of the second new data indicator 245 may be set by the base station 205 to a binary value of 01. In both scenarios, the UE 215 may compare the value of the second new data indicator 245 with the value of the first new data indicator 235, and in the second case, may determine that the second data message 255 includes new data.

[0139] By increasing the size of the field used to convey the new data indicator, the probability that a receiving device cannot determine that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data can be reduced—for example, from a probability of p failing to decode a downlink control message to p 3 More generally, the probability that a receiving device cannot determine that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data may be reduced as a function of the number of available values for the new data indicator—that is, the probability that a receiving device cannot determine that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data may be p K-1 , where K is the number of available values for the new data indicator.

[0140] In a second example for facilitating detection of a transmission scheduled for new data, when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, unused fields of the downlink control message may be used to convey the new data indicator, effectively increasing the size of the NDI field. In some cases, when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, the fields used to support acknowledgment feedback reporting (e.g., fields indicating an index of a transport block (or code block group) and a location of acknowledgment information for the transport block in the codebook (such as a field) may be used to communicate the new data indicator. Figure 3 index field 310), resource indication field (such as Figure 3 resource indication field 320) and / or a power control field (such as Figure 3 The power control field 315 of the first new data indicator 235 may be unused (e.g., set to 0). Therefore, a bit set (e.g., which may include multiple bits) for representing the first new data indicator 235 or the second new data indicator 245 may be included in a field for indicating whether the data transmission is scheduled to include new data and one or more fields for supporting confirmation feedback. In some cases, the first bit of the first new data indicator 235 or the second new data indicator 245 may be included in a field for indicating whether the data transmission is scheduled to include new data. And the remaining bits of the first new data indicator 235 or the second new data indicator 245 may be included in a second field (e.g., a DAI field) for supporting confirmation feedback.

[0141] UE 215 can determine whether second data message 255 includes new data by comparing the value of the extended version of second new data indicator 245 with the value of the extended version of first new data indicator 235, as similarly described when the length of the field for indicating new data is extended. Similarly, when the acknowledgement feedback report is disabled, the field for conveying padding bits can be used to convey the new data indicator. By using bits of unused fields of the downlink control message, the probability that the receiving device cannot determine that the data transmission is scheduled to include new data can be reduced, as described above. Moreover, the existing downlink control format can be used.

[0142] In a third example for facilitating detection of a transmission scheduled for new data, when acknowledgment feedback reporting is disabled, information included in an additional field of a downlink control message may be used to supplement information provided in a field including a new data indicator. In some cases, a field (e.g., an RVID field) indicating a redundancy version for scheduled data transmission is used to supplement information provided in a field including a first new data indicator 235 or a second new data indicator 245. In some cases, a first control message 230 may indicate that a first data message 250 is scheduled to use a first redundancy version (e.g., RV2) and a second control message 240 may indicate that a second data message 255 is scheduled to use a second redundancy version (e.g., RV0). In some examples, redundancy versions are used for data messages according to a predetermined sequence. In some cases, the sequence includes a repetition of the sequence {RV0, RV2, RV3, RV1}. In some cases, the maximum number of repetitions for each redundancy version may be included in the sequence—e.g., the sequence may include up to two instances of each RV {RV0, RV0, RV2, RV2, RV3, RV3, RV1, RV1}. The base station 205 may signal the predetermined sequence to the UE 215 in control signaling (e.g., RRC signaling or DCI signaling). In some examples, one of the redundancy versions (e.g., RV0) is used for new data transmission. In some examples, the base station 205 may signal the redundancy version used for new data transmission to the UE.

[0143] The UE 215 may determine whether the second data message 255 includes new data by first comparing the value of the second new data indicator 245 with the first new data indicator 235. If the values are different, the UE 215 may determine that the second data message 255 includes new data. If the values are the same, the UE 215 may also compare the value of the second RVID field included in the second control message 240 with the value of the first RVID field included in the first control message 230. When a predetermined redundancy version sequence is used, if the values of the first RVID field and the second RVID field are the same, the UE 215 may determine that the second data message 255 is scheduled to include new data. When a specific redundancy version is used for new data, if the value of the second RVID field corresponds to the specific redundancy version, the UE 215 may determine that the second data message 255 is scheduled to include new data.

[0144] By using the additional information provided by the RVID field, the probability that a receiving device cannot determine that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data can be reduced. Furthermore, existing downlink control formats can be used.

[0145] In a fourth example for facilitating detection of a transmission scheduled for new data, when an acknowledgement feedback report is disabled, a timing parameter may be used to supplement the information included in the field including the new data indicator. In some cases, the timing parameter may establish a maximum duration (which may be measured in time slots or milliseconds) between an initial data transmission and a repetition. The UE 215 may determine whether the second data message 255 includes new data by first comparing the second new data indicator 245 with the value of the first new data indicator 235. If these values are different, the UE 215 may determine that the second data message 255 includes new data. If these values are the same, the UE 215 may determine whether the duration between the first data message 250 and the second data message 255 is greater than a timing threshold. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 215 may determine whether the duration between the first control message 230 and the second control message 240 is greater than a timing threshold. If the duration between one or both of these messages is greater than a timing threshold, the UE 215 may determine that the second data message 255 is scheduled to include new data.

[0146] By using the additional information provided by measuring the time between control and / or data transmissions, the probability that a receiving device cannot determine that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data can be reduced. Furthermore, existing downlink control formats can be used.

[0147] Figure 3 Various aspects of supporting control message configuration indicating raw data communication according to various aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated.

[0148] The control message 300 may be a downlink control message. The control message 300 may be configured to schedule downlink or uplink resources; indicate whether new data or duplicate data is scheduled to be transmitted during the downlink or uplink resources; indicate a redundant version for the transmission and / or indicate information supporting reporting of acknowledgement feedback. The control message 300 may also be configured to support enhanced techniques for signaling whether the data transmission scheduled by the control message 300 includes new data.

[0149] The control message 300 may include one or more NDI fields, such as NDI field 305, one or more index fields, such as index field 310, one or more power control fields, such as power control field 315, one or more resource indication fields, such as resource indication field 320, one or more decoding fields, such as decoding field 325, and one or more padding fields, such as padding field 330. In some cases, the control message 300 includes an NDI field, an index field, a power control field, a resource indication field, an RVID field, and / or a padding field for each HARQ process that is activated (or supported) for communication with the wireless device.

[0150] In some cases, the NDI field 305, the index field 310, the power control field 315, the resource indication field 320, the decoding field 325, and the padding field 330 may be used to support the operation of a single HARQ process. In some cases, the padding field 330 is omitted and a single padding field 330 is included at the end of the control message 300. In some cases, the index field 310, the power control field 315, and the resource indication field 320 may also be used to support HARQ-ACK reporting for a HARQ process and may be referred to as a HARQ-ACK field. Additional NDI, index, power control, resource indication, RVID, and padding fields may be used to support the operation of another HARQ process.

[0151] The NDI field 305 may be configured to indicate whether the downlink or uplink data transmission scheduled by the control message 300 is scheduled to include new data or to include repeated data. In some examples, the NDI field 305 may be one bit in length. In other examples, the NDI field 305 may be multiple bits in length. In some cases, the NDI field 305 is one bit in length—for example, when the control message is configured according to a first DCI format or is configured with a DCI indicating a HARQ process for which HARQ-ACK feedback is enabled. In other cases, the NDI field 305 is multiple bits in length—for example, when the control message 300 is configured according to a second DCI format selected for use when one or more HARQ processes are disabled for the UE or is configured with a DCI indicating a HARQ process for which HARQ-ACK feedback is enabled.

[0152] The index field 310 may be configured to indicate an index of a transport block (or code block group), the index corresponding to the position of the confirmation feedback for the transport block (or code block group) in the confirmation feedback codebook. The index field 310 may include a plurality of subfields, the plurality of subfields including a tDAI field for indicating the total number of transport blocks (or code block groups) represented in the confirmation feedback codebook. And a cDAI field for indicating the position of the transport block (or code block group) relative to other transport blocks (or code block groups) represented in the confirmation feedback codebook.

[0153] In some examples, if the index field 310 is configured to indicate index information about a HARQ process for which the HARQ-ACK report has been disabled for communication with the UE, the index field 310 may be unused. In some cases, when the round trip time exceeds a threshold for conveying the type of data being conveyed using the HARQ process, the HARQ-ACK report is disabled for the HARQ process. In such a case, the index field 310 may be used to convey additional bits of the new data indicator. In some cases, the bits in the index field 310 may be appended to the bits of the NDI field 305, thereby generating a multi-bit new data indicator. In some cases, the index field 310 may have a length of two bits. In other cases, the index field 310 may be used to convey all bits of the new data indicator, and the new data indication in the NDI field 305 may be ignored.

[0154] The power control field 315 may be used to indicate a power level for transmitting HARQ-ACK feedback to the base station. The power control field 315 may include a TPC command that indicates the power level of the uplink transmission relative to the power level used for the previous transmission. Similar to the index field 310, the power control field 315 may be unused when the HARQ-ACK report has been disabled for the corresponding HARQ process. In addition or alternatively to using the index field 310, the power control field 315 may be used to convey at least a portion or all of the new data indicator.

[0155] The resource indication field 320 may be used to indicate an uplink communication resource for transmitting HARQ-ACK feedback. The resource indication field 320 may include a data resource to uplink control resource (PDSCH to PUCCH resource) indicator field, which indicates the time and frequency position of the uplink control resource relative to the data resource. Additionally or alternatively, the resource indication field 320 may include a data resource to confirmation resource (e.g., PDSCH to HARQ-ACK resource) indicator field, which indicates the time and frequency position of the HARQ-ACK resource relative to the data resource. Similar to the index field 310 and the power control field 315, the resource indication field 320 may be unused when the HARQ-ACK report has been disabled for the corresponding HARQ process. In addition or alternatively to using the index field 310 and / or the power control field, the resource indication field 320 may be used to convey at least a portion or all of the new data indicator.

[0156] The padding field 330 may be used to ensure that the size of the control message 300 when used to transmit uplink control information corresponds to the size of the control message 3300 when used to transmit downlink control information. In addition to or in lieu of using any combination of the index field 310, the power control field 315, and the resource indication field 320, the padding field 330 may be used to convey at least a portion or all of the new data indicator.

[0157] The decoding field 325 may be used to indicate a redundancy version for a scheduled transmission. The decoding field 325 may include an RVID field indicating a redundancy version for a scheduled transmission. In some cases, the value of the decoding field 325 may be changed for each subsequent transmission according to the redundancy version sequence. In some cases, the value of the decoding field 325 may be set to a specific value (e.g., a value corresponding to RV0) whenever a transmission for a corresponding HARQ process includes new data. As discussed herein, the value of the decoding field 325 may be used in conjunction with the value of the NDI field 305 to determine whether a transmission scheduled for a corresponding HARQ process includes new data.

[0158] Figure 4Various aspects of a process for indicating raw data communication according to various aspects of the present disclosure are illustrated. Process flow 400 may be performed by base station 405 and UE 415, which may be described above with reference to Figures 1 to 3 Examples of base stations or UEs described.

[0159] In some examples, process flow 400 illustrates an example sequence of operations performed during a procedure using an enhanced technique for indicating and / or determining that a downlink or uplink data transmission is scheduled to include new data. One of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that one or more operations described in process flow 400 may be performed, omitted, and / or replaced earlier or later in the process. Also, additional operations described herein that are not included in process flow 400 may be included.

[0160] At 420, base station 405 and UE 415 may exchange control signaling (e.g., RRC signaling). In some cases, base station 405 may send control signaling to UE 415 that indicates a number of HARQ processes supported for transmissions between base station 405 and UE 415. In some examples, base station 405 and / or UE 415 signals a capability that supports an enhanced technique for indicating and / or determining that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data.

[0161] The base station 405 may send control signaling to the UE 415 indicating whether the NDI field includes one or more bits. The base station 405 may send control signaling to the UE 415 indicating that the control field used to support HARQ-ACK reporting may also be used to convey new data indication. The base station 405 may send control signaling to the UE 415 indicating a redundant version sequence. The base station 405 may send control signaling to the UE 415 indicating the maximum number of times a redundant version may be repeated in the redundant version sequence. The base station 405 may send control signaling to the UE 415 indicating a redundant version associated with the new data. The base station 405 may send control signaling to the UE 415 indicating a timing parameter indicating a maximum duration between transmission of new data and repeated data.

[0162] In some cases, the base station 405 may send a configuration message to the UE 415 to disable HARQ-ACK reporting for at least one of the HARQ processes used to communicate data between the base station 405 and the UE 415. In some cases, the base station 405 may send a configuration message to the UE 415 to enable HARQ-ACK reporting for at least one of the HARQ processes used to communicate data between the base station 405 and the UE 415. In some cases, the base station 405 sends a configuration message that configures a mode for processing (e.g., decoding) downlink control messages according to a first set of techniques for indicating and / or determining that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data when HARQ-ACK reporting is enabled. And an enhanced technique for indicating and / or determining that a data transmission is scheduled to include new data when HARQ-ACK reporting is disabled.

[0163] At 425, UE 415 may configure one or more HARQ modes for one or more HARQ processes based at least in part on the exchanged control signaling. In some examples, UE 415 may configure a mode for a HARQ process that enables HARQ-ACK reporting for the HARQ process. In some cases, UE 415 may determine that a first control message format including an NDI field having a length of one bit is used to transmit a control message based on HARQ-ACK reporting being enabled. In other cases, UE 415 may determine that a control message format including an NDI field having a length of multiple bits is used to transmit a control message based on receiving corresponding control signaling, even if HARQ-ACK reporting is enabled.

[0164] At 430, the base station 405 may transmit a DCI message to the UE 415 according to a format including an NDI field having a single bit. The DCI message may also include a HARQ-ACK field for supporting the transmission of a HARQ-ACK report from the UE 415. The DCI message may also include an RVID field indicating that the downlink or uplink transmission scheduled by the control message is generated according to the indicated redundancy version. In some cases, the DCI message includes a downlink grant that schedules downlink data transmission. In other cases, the DCI message includes an uplink grant that schedules uplink data transmission.

[0165] At 435, the UE 415 may decode a portion of the DCI message associated with the HARQ process for which HARQ-ACK reporting is enabled according to the determined control message format, e.g., according to a control message format including an NDI field having a single bit. In other examples, the UE may decode the portion of the DCI message associated with the HARQ process for which HARQ-ACK reporting is enabled according to a control message format including an NDI field having multiple bits. The UE 415 may also decode the remaining portions of the DCI message associated with the remaining HARQ processes for which HARQ-ACK reporting is enabled or disabled.

[0166] At 440, UE 415 may identify data resources allocated for data transmission scheduled by the control message. UE 415 may also determine the state of the data to be included in the data transmission. That is, UE 415 may determine whether to include original / new data or duplicate data in the data transmission based on the value of the NDI field of the received control message. In some cases, UE 415 may determine to transmit new data based on determining that the value of the NDI field is different from the value of the NDI field included in the previous DCI message received at UE 415. In other cases, UE 415 may determine to transmit duplicate data based on determining that the value of the NDI field is different from the value of the NDI field included in the previous DCI message received at UE 415.

[0167] At 445, UE 415 may receive a downlink data message from base station 405 in the indicated data resource—e.g., where the DCI message includes a downlink grant. In some examples, UE 415 may decode the data as new data based on the state of the data being determined to be new. In other examples, UE 415 may decode the data as repeated data (e.g., using a combining technique) based on the state of the data being determined to be repeated. In both cases, UE 415 may decode the received data according to the redundancy version indicated by the DCI message.

[0168] Alternatively, UE 415 may transmit an uplink data message to base station 405 in the indicated data resource—for example, where the DCI message includes an uplink grant. In some examples, UE 415 may generate the uplink data message to include new data based on the state of the data being determined to be new. In other examples, UE 415 may generate the uplink data message to include repeated data based on the state of the data being determined to be repeated. In both cases, UE 415 may generate the data message based on the redundancy version indicated by the DCI message.

[0169] At 450, UE 415 may receive a HARQ configuration message from base station 405. In some cases, UE 415 may receive the HARQ configuration message concurrently with the setup message signaled at 420—eg, and the operations described at 425 through 445 may be omitted.

[0170] At 455, UE 415 may configure one or more HARQ modes for one or more HARQ processes based at least in part on the received HARQ configuration message. In some examples, UE 415 may configure a mode for a HARQ process that disables HARQ-ACK reporting for the HARQ process for which HARQ-ACK reporting was previously enabled. In some cases, UE 415 may determine, based on HARQ-ACK reporting being disabled, that a first control message format including an NDI field having a length of multiple bits is used to transmit a control message. Additionally or alternatively, UE 415 may determine, based on HARQ-ACK reporting being disabled, that a first control message format including an NDI field having a length of a single bit is used to transmit a control message and that other fields of the control message are used to convey a new data indicator in conjunction with or separately from the NDI field. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 415 may determine, based on HARQ-ACK reporting being disabled, that a first control message format including an NDI field having a length of a single bit is used to transmit the control message and that the RVID field is used to supplement a determination as to whether new data is scheduled to be transmitted in a data transmission.

[0171] At 460, UE 415 may receive a control message from base station 405. The control message may include an NDI field having multiple bits. Or the control message may include an NDI field having a single bit. The control message may also include one or more HARQ-ACK fields supporting HARQ-ACK reporting for a disabled HARQ process. The control message may also include one or more padding fields, including a padding field for a disabled HARQ process. The control message may also include an RVID field for a disabled HARQ process. The control message may also include additional NDI, HARQ-ACK, padding, and / or RVID fields for other enabled and / or disabled HARQ processes.

[0172] At 465, UE 415 may decode a portion of the DCI message associated with the disabled HARQ process based on a configured pattern and / or predetermined rule for determining whether the scheduled data transmission includes new data. In some examples, UE 415 decodes the portion of the DCI message associated with the disabled HARQ process based on determining that the NDI field includes a plurality of bits. In some examples, UE 415 decodes the portion of the DCI message associated with the disabled HARQ process based on determining that one or more HARQ-ACK fields (e.g., Figure 3 Index field 310, Figure 3 The power control field 315, Figure 3 The UE 415 may decode the portion of the DCI message associated with the disabled HARQ process based on determining that the padding field is being used to convey all or a portion of the new data indicator, wherein the NDI field may include a single bit.

[0173] At 470, UE 450 may identify data resources for downlink or uplink transmission scheduled by the DCI message. UE 415 may also determine the state of the data to be included in the downlink or uplink data transmission as new or repeated. In some cases, UE 415 may determine whether the downlink or uplink data transmission is scheduled to include new data based on the value of the new data indicator signaled in the DCI message. In some cases, UE 415 may determine whether the downlink or uplink data transmission is scheduled to include new data based on the value of the RVID field. In some examples, UE 415 determines that the downlink or uplink data transmission is scheduled to include new data based on the redundancy version (e.g., RV0) associated with the new data indicated by the RVID field.

[0174] At 475, UE 415 may receive a downlink data transmission from base station 405 based on the DCI message scheduling downlink data resources. UE 415 may determine that the downlink transmission includes new data based on the determined data status.

[0175] Alternatively, UE 415 may transmit an uplink data transmission based on a DCI message scheduling uplink data resources to base station 405. UE 415 may determine that new data is to be included in the uplink data based on the determined data status.

[0176] At 480 , UE 415 may receive another downlink control message from base station 405 , as similarly described with reference to 460 .

[0177] At 485, the UE 415 may decode the downlink control message to determine the value of the single-bit or multi-bit NDI field and the value of the RVID field, as similarly described with reference to 465.

[0178] At 490, the UE 415 may identify data resources for an uplink or downlink transmission scheduled by the DCI message. The UE 415 may also determine whether the downlink or uplink data transmission is scheduled to include new data based on comparing a value of a new data indicator signaled in the DCI message with a value of a new data indicator signaled in the DCI message transmitted at 460. In some cases, the UE 415 may determine whether the downlink or uplink data transmission is scheduled to include new data based on comparing a value of the RVID field with a value of the RVID field signaled in the DCI message transmitted at 460.

[0179] In some examples, UE 415 may determine that new data is scheduled to be transmitted in a data transmission based on determining that a value of a new data indicator signaled in the DCI message (e.g., obtained from one or more fields of the DCI message) is different from a value of a new data indicator signaled in a prior DCI message.

[0180] In other examples, the UE 415 may determine that the value of the new data indicator signaled in the DCI message is the same as the value of the new data indicator signaled in the previous DCI message. In such a case, before determining that the repeated data is scheduled for data transmission, the UE 415 may compare the value of the RVID field included in the DCI message with the value of the RVID field included in the previous DCI message. The UE 415 may determine that the new data is scheduled for data transmission based on determining that the value of the RVID field included in the DCI message is the same as the value of the RVID field included in the previous DCI message. Alternatively, before determining that the repeated data is scheduled for data transmission, the UE 415 may determine whether the value of the RVID field included in the DCI message corresponds to a redundancy version associated with the new data. The UE 415 may determine that the new data is scheduled for data transmission based on determining that the value of the RVID field in the DCI message corresponds to a redundancy version associated with the new data.

[0181] Alternatively, before determining that the duplicate data is scheduled for data transmission, the UE 415 may determine whether the data transmission scheduled by the DCI message is separated from the data transmission scheduled by the previous DCI message by a duration (e.g., measured in time slots or milliseconds) that exceeds a timing threshold. The UE 415 may determine that the new data is scheduled for data transmission based on determining that the duration or number of time slots between the control message and the previous control message exceeds the timing threshold. In some cases, the UE 415 may determine that the new data is scheduled for data transmission based on determining that the duration or number of time slots between the data message scheduled by the control message and the previous data message scheduled by the control message exceeds the timing threshold.

[0182] At 495, UE 415 may transmit or receive a data transmission including new data or repeated data based on the result of determining whether new data is scheduled for data transmission.

In some examples, the HARQ communication component 720 may transmit a repeated data set to the base station in the uplink data transmission, the repeated data set being previously transmitted by the UE in a previous uplink data transmission.

[0217] The HARQ data state component 725 may determine that the third data transmission includes the original data set based on the third indication and the second indication. In some examples, the HARQ data state component 725 may compare the third indication of the third control message with the second indication of the second control message, wherein the determination that the third data transmission includes the original data set is based on that the second value of the second indication is different from the third value of the third indication. In some examples, the HARQ data state component 725 may determine that the third data transmission includes the original data set based on the second indication and the third indication. In some examples, the HARQ data state component 725 may determine that the third data transmission includes the original data set based on the second indication, the third indication, the fourth indication, and the fifth indication.

[0218] In some examples, the HARQ data status component 725 may compare a fourth indication of the third control message with the second indication of the second control message and compare a fifth indication of the third control message with the third indication of the second control message, wherein a determination that the third data transmission includes the original data set is based on a fourth value of the fourth indication being equal to the second value of the second indication.

[0219] In some examples, the HARQ data status component 725 may receive control signaling including a sequence of redundant version sets, the sequence including a first amount of repetitions of each redundant version in the redundant version set, wherein determining that the third data transmission includes the original data set is based on a fifth indication of the third control message indicating a second amount of repetitions for the redundant versions in the sequence, the second amount of repetitions being greater than the first amount of repetitions. In some examples, the HARQ data status component 725 may determine that the downlink data transmission includes the original data set based on a second indication included in the second control message. In some examples, the HARQ data status component 725 may determine that the uplink data transmission includes the original data set based on the second indication included in the second control message.

[0220] In some examples, the HARQ data status component 725 may determine that the uplink data transmission includes a duplicate data set based on a second indication included in the second control message. In some examples, the HARQ data status component 725 may compare the third indication of the third control message with the second indication of the second control message, wherein the third data transmission is determined to include the original data set based on the second value of the second indication being different from the third value of the third indication. In some cases, the third data transmission is determined to include the original data set based on the fifth value of the fifth indication of the third control message being equal to the third value of the third indication of the second control message. In some cases, the third data transmission is determined to include the original data set based on the fifth indication of the third control message indicating the redundancy version associated with the original data in the redundancy version set.

[0221] The HARQ configuration component 715 may receive a configuration message that configures a mode for disabling acknowledgment feedback reporting for the UE.
