Description
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This patent application claims the priority of Indian Patent Application No. 202041020167 filed on May 13, 2020, entitled “TUNE AWAY CONFIGURATION FOR AUSER EQUIPMENT WITH MULTIPLE SUBSCRIPTIONS” and is assigned to the assignee of this application. The disclosure of that prior application is considered a part of this patent application and is incorporated by reference into this patent application. Technical Field
[0003] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communications, and to techniques and apparatus for tune-away configuration for user equipment with multiple subscriptions. Background Art
[0004] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide a variety of telecommunication services, such as telephony, video, data, messaging, and broadcasting. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies that can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc.). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and long term evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
[0005] A wireless communication network may include multiple base stations (BSs) that can support communication of multiple user equipments (UEs). User equipments (UEs) may communicate with base stations (BSs) via downlinks and uplinks. A "downlink" (or "forward link") refers to a communication link from a BS to a UE, and an "uplink" (or "reverse link") refers to a communication link from a UE to a BS. As will be described in more detail herein, a BS may be referred to as a Node B, gNB, access point (AP), radio head, transmit receive point (TRP), new radio (NR) BS, 5G Node B, etc.
[0006] The above-mentioned multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different user equipment to communicate at the city, country, region and even global level. New Radio (NR) (also known as 5G) is an enhancement set of the LTE mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). NR is designed to better support mobile broadband Internet access by improving spectrum efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) (CP-OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink (DL), using CP-OFDM and / or SC-FDM (e.g., also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink (UL) to better integrate with other open standards, and support beamforming, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology and carrier aggregation. However, as the demand for mobile broadband access continues to grow, further improvements in LTE and NR technologies are needed. Preferably, these improvements should be applicable to other multiple access technologies and telecommunication standards that adopt these technologies. Summary of the invention

[0024] Various aspects of the present disclosure are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, the present disclosure can be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as being limited to any specific structure or function presented throughout the present disclosure. On the contrary, these aspects are provided so that the present disclosure will be thorough and complete, and the scope of the present disclosure will be conveyed to those skilled in the art. Based on the teachings herein, it should be understood by those skilled in the art that the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover any aspect of the disclosure disclosed herein, whether implemented independently of any other aspect of the present disclosure or implemented in combination with any other aspect of the present disclosure. For example, any number of aspects set forth herein can be used to implement a device or practice method. In addition, the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover such a device or method, which is practiced using other structures, functions, or structures and functions other than or different from the various aspects of the present disclosure set forth herein. It should be understood that any aspect of the disclosure disclosed herein can be embodied by one or more elements of the claims.
[0025] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various devices and techniques. These devices and techniques will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, modules, components, circuits, steps, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as "elements"). These elements can be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination thereof. Whether these elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and design constraints of the overall system.
[0026] It should be noted that although aspects may be described herein using terminology commonly associated with 3G and / or 4G wireless technologies, aspects of the present disclosure may be applied to communication systems based on other generations, such as 5G and later communication systems, including NR technology.
[0027] Figure 1 is a diagram illustrating a wireless network 100 in which aspects of the present disclosure may be practiced. The wireless network 100 may be an LTE network or some other wireless network, such as a 5G or NR network. The wireless network 100 may include a plurality of BSs 110 (shown as BS 110a, BS 110b, BS 110c, and BS 110d) and other network entities. A BS is an entity that communicates with a user equipment (UE) and may also be referred to as a base station, NR BS, Node B, gNB, 5G Node B (NB), access point, transmit receive point (TRP), etc. Each BS may provide communication coverage for a particular geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to a coverage area of a BS and / or BS subsystem serving a coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.
[0028] A BS may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a pico cell, a femto cell, and / or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access to UEs with service subscriptions. A pico cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access to UEs with service subscriptions. A femto cell may cover a relatively small geographic area (e.g., a home) and may allow restricted access to UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a pico cell may be referred to as a pico BS. A BS for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS. In Figure 1 In the example shown, BS 110a may be a macro BS of macro cell 102a, BS 110b may be a pico BS of pico cell 102b, and BS 110c may be a femto BS of femto cell 102c. A BS may support one or more (e.g., three) cells. The terms "eNB", "base station", "NR BS", "gNB", "TRP", "AP", "Node B", "5G NB", and "cell" may be used interchangeably herein.
[0029] In some aspects, the cells are not necessarily stationary, and the geographic area of the cells may move depending on the location of the mobile BS. In some aspects, the BSs may be interconnected with each other and / or with one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in the wireless network 100 through various types of backhaul interfaces (such as direct physical connections, virtual networks, etc.) using any suitable transport network.
[0030] The wireless network 100 may also include a relay station. A relay station is an entity that can receive data transmissions from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or a UE) and transmit data transmissions to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or a BS). A relay station may also be a UE that can relay transmissions for other UEs. Figure 1 In the example shown, a relay station 110d may communicate with a macro BS 110a and a UE 120d to facilitate communication between the BS 110a and the UE 120d. A relay station may also be referred to as a relay BS, a relay base station, a relay, or the like.
[0031] The wireless network 100 may be a heterogeneous network including different types of BSs (e.g., macro BSs, pico BSs, femto BSs, relay BSs, etc.). These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different effects on interference in the wireless network 100. For example, a macro BS may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 to 40 watts), while a pico BS, a femto BS, and a relay BS may have a lower transmit power level (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts).
[0032] A network controller 130 may be coupled to a set of BSs and may provide coordination and control for these BSs. The network controller 130 may communicate with the BSs via a backhaul. The BSs may also communicate with each other directly or indirectly, for example, via a wireless or wired backhaul.
[0033] UE 120 (e.g., 120a, 120b, 120c) can be dispersed in the wireless network 100, and each UE can be stationary or mobile. UE can also be referred to as an access terminal, terminal, mobile station, subscriber unit, station, etc. UE can be a cellular phone (e.g., a smart phone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet computer, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device or equipment, a biometric sensor / device, a wearable device (smart watch, smart clothing, smart glasses, smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., smart ring, smart bracelet)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music or video device or a satellite radio), a vehicle component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, an industrial manufacturing equipment, a global positioning system device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via a wireless or wired medium.
[0034] Some UEs may be considered as machine type communication (MTC) or evolved or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC and eMTC UEs include, for example, robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, monitors, location tags, etc., which can communicate with a base station, another device (e.g., a remote device), or some other entity. For example, a wireless node may provide a connection to or to a network (e.g., a wide area network such as the Internet or a cellular network) via a wired or wireless communication link. Some UEs may be considered as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and / or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs may be considered as customer premises equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included in a housing that houses components of UE 120 (such as a processor component, a memory component, etc.). In some aspects, the processor component and the memory component may be coupled together. For example, a processor component (e.g., one or more processors) and a memory component (e.g., a memory) may be operably coupled, communicatively coupled, electronically coupled, electrically coupled, etc.
[0035] In general, any number of wireless networks can be deployed in a given geographic area. Each wireless network can support a specific radio access technology (RAT) and can operate on one or more frequencies. RAT can also be referred to as radio technology, air interface, etc. Frequency can also be referred to as carrier, channel, etc. Each frequency can support a single RAT in a given geographic area to avoid interference between wireless networks of different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks can be deployed.
[0036] In some aspects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly (e.g., without using base station 110 as an intermediary for communicating with each other) using one or more side link channels. For example, UE 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocols (e.g., which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocols, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocols, etc.), mesh networks, etc. In this case, UE 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, and / or other operations described elsewhere herein as being performed by base station 110.
[0037] As indicated above, Figure 1 are provided as examples. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 1 as described.
[0038] Figure 2 A block diagram of a design 200 of a base station 110 and a UE 120 is shown, which may be Figure 1 Base station 110 may be equipped with T antennas 234a through 234t, and UE 120 may be equipped with R antennas 252a through 252r, where in general T ≥ 1 and R ≥ 1.
[0039] At the base station 110, the transmit processor 220 may receive data for one or more UEs from the data source 212, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based at least in part on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode and modulate) the data for the UE based at least in part on the (multiple) MCS selected for each UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. The transmit processor 220 may also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI) and the like) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, upper layer signaling, etc.), and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signals (PSS) and secondary synchronization signals (SSS)). The transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 may perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, and / or reference symbols, if applicable, and may provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MOD) 232a to 232t. Each modulator 232 may process a corresponding output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 may further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. The T downlink signals from modulators 232a to 232t may be transmitted via T antennas 234a to 234t, respectively. According to various aspects described in more detail below, a synchronization signal may be generated using position coding to convey additional information.
[0040] At the UE 120, antennas 252a to 252r may receive downlink signals from the base station 110 and / or other base stations, and may provide received signals to demodulators (DEMODs) 254a to 254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 254 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM, etc.) to obtain received symbols. The MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all R demodulators 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols (if applicable), and provide detected symbols. The receive processor 258 may process (e.g., demodulate and decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for the UE 120 to the data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to the controller / processor 280. The channel processor may determine reference signal received power (RSRP), received signal strength indicator (RSSI), reference signal received quality (RSRQ), channel quality indicator (CQI), etc. In some aspects, one or more components of UE 120 may be included in a housing.
[0041] The network controller 130 may include a communication unit 294, a controller / processor 290, and a memory 292. The network controller 130 may include, for example, one or more devices in a core network. The network controller 130 may communicate with the base station 110 via the communication unit 294.
[0042] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information from a controller / processor 280 (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, CQI, etc.). The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. The symbols from the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266 (if applicable), further processed by modulators 254a through 254r (e.g., for DFT-s-OFDM, CP-OFDM, etc.), and transmitted to the base station 110. In some aspects, the UE 120 includes a transceiver. The transceiver may include any combination of antenna(s) 252, modulators and / or demodulators 254, a MIMO detector 256, a receive processor 258, a transmit processor 264, and / or a TX MIMO processor 266. A processor (eg, controller / processor 280) and memory 282 may use a transceiver to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein (eg, as described in reference to Figure 4-Figure 8 described).
[0043] At the base station 110, uplink signals from the UE 120 and other UEs may be received by the antenna 234, processed by the demodulator 232, detected by the MIMO detector 236 (if applicable), and further processed by the receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information transmitted by the UE 120. The receive processor 238 may provide the decoded data to the data sink 239 and the decoded control information to the controller / processor 240. The base station 110 may include a communication unit 244 and communicate with the network controller 130 via the communication unit 244. In some aspects, the base station 110 includes a transceiver. The processor (e.g., controller / processor 240) and memory 242 may use the transceiver to perform aspects of any of the methods described herein (e.g., as described in reference to Figure 4-Figure 8 described).
[0044] The controller / processor 240 of the base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, and / or Figure 2 Any (multiple) other components of may perform one or more techniques associated with tune-away configuration for user equipment with multiple subscriptions, as described in more detail elsewhere herein. For example, controller / processor 240 of base station 110, controller / processor 280 of UE 120, and / or Figure 2 Any other component(s) may perform or direct e.g. Figure 7 The process 700 Figure 8 The operations of process 800 and / or other processes described herein may be performed. [0047] As indicated above, Figure 2 are provided as examples. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 2 as described.
[0048] Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating an example 300 of a multiple subscriber identity module (SIM) UE according to the present disclosure. Figure 3 As shown, UE 120 may be a multi-SIM UE including multiple SIMs (two or more SIMs) (shown as a first SIM 305a and a second SIM 305b). The first SIM 305a may be associated with a first subscription (shown as SUB 1), and the second SIM 305b may be associated with a second subscription (shown as SUB 2). The subscription may include a subscription to a network operator (e.g., a mobile network operator (MNO)) that enables UE 120 to access a wireless network (e.g., a radio access network (RAN)) associated with the network operator.
[0049] SIM 305 may be a removable SIM (e.g., a SIM card) or an embedded SIM. SIM 305 may include an integrated circuit that securely stores an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and security keys that are used to identify and authenticate the corresponding subscription associated with SIM 305. In some cases, SIM 305 may store a list of services (such as data services or voice services, among other examples) that UE 120 is entitled to access using the subscription associated with SIM 305.
[0050] like Figure 3 As further shown in , the UE 120 can use the first SIM 305a to communicate with the first base station 310a via the first cell 315a (shown as cell 1) (e.g., in a connected mode, an idle mode, or an inactive mode). In this case, the first subscription (SUB 1) of the UE 120 can be used to access the first cell 315a (e.g., using the first IMSI for UE identification, using the first security key for UE authentication, using the first list of services that the UE 120 is allowed to access using the first subscription, or by counting data or voice usage on the first cell for the first subscription, as well as other examples). Similarly, the UE 120 can use the second SIM 305b to communicate with the second base station 310b via the second cell 315b (shown as cell 2) (e.g., in a connected mode, an idle mode, or an inactive mode). In this case, the second subscription (SUB 2) of UE 120 can be used to access the second cell 315b (e.g., using a second IMSI for UE identification, using a second security key for UE authentication, using a second list of services that UE 120 is allowed to access using the second subscription, or by counting data or voice usage on the second cell for the second subscription, among other examples).
[0051] The first base station 310a and / or the second base station 310b may include the above combination Figure 1 One or more of the base stations 110 described herein. Although the first cell 315a and the second cell 315b are shown as being provided by different base stations, in some aspects, the first cell 315 and the second cell 315b may be provided by the same base station. Therefore, in some aspects, the first base station 310a and the second base station 310b may be integrated into a single base station.
[0052] In some cases, UE 120 may be a single receiver (SR) (sometimes also referred to as a single radio) multi-SIM UE, such as a SR multi-SIM multi-standby (SR-MSMS) UE or a single receiver dual SIM dual standby (SR-DSDS) UE, among other examples. A multi-SIM UE may be able to switch between two separate mobile network services, may include hardware for maintaining multiple connections (e.g., one connection per SIM) in a standby state, or may include hardware for maintaining multiple network connections at the same time (e.g., multiple transceivers), among other examples. However, an SR-DSDS UE or SR-MSMS UE may only be able to receive data on one connection at a time because radio frequency resources are shared between multiple subscriptions. For example, an SR-DSDS UE or SR-MSMS UE may be associated with multiple subscriptions, but may include only a single transceiver shared by multiple subscriptions, a single transmit chain shared by multiple subscriptions, or a single receive chain shared by multiple subscriptions, among other examples. As a result, UE 120 may not be able to receive concurrent messages for multiple subscriptions, and is more likely to lose messages when they occur concurrently for different subscriptions.
[0053] For example, if the UE 120 is communicating via the first cell 315a using a first subscription associated with the first SIM 305a, the UE 120 may miss a paging message that occurs for a second subscription associated with the second SIM 305b (e.g., a paging message on the second cell 315b). As another example, if the UE 120 is communicating using the first subscription and a network connection (e.g., an idle or inactive connection) associated with the second subscription is lost, the UE 120 may not be able to receive messages using the second subscription. These scenarios may result in increased latency due to lost messages (e.g., paging messages), may consume network resources and increase signaling overhead due to duplication of messages, or may result in dropped communications if the base station does not repeat the message or if multiple messages are lost by the UE 120.
[0054] Some techniques and apparatus described herein enable a UE 120 (e.g., a multi-SIM UE) to configure and perform a tune-away from a network connection associated with a first subscription in a coordinated manner with a base station 110. As a result, the UE 120 may be enabled to receive messages (e.g., paging messages) associated with a second subscription during the tune-away from the first subscription, may be enabled to perform a cell reselection procedure for the second subscription if the network connection associated with the second subscription is lost, and / or may be enabled to perform other communication procedures associated with the second subscription during the tune-away from the first subscription. As a result, the UE may avoid or reduce the likelihood of missing messages across different subscriptions, which may result in reduced latency, reduced signaling overhead, and fewer dropped communications.
[0055] Furthermore, by coordinating tune-away with base station 110, UE 120 may enable base station 110 to save base station resources (e.g., processing resources, memory resources, antenna resources, etc.) that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with UE 120 during the time that UE 120 is tuned away from base station 110 (e.g., tuned away from a cell provided by base station 110). This also saves network resources that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with UE 120 during the time that UE 120 is tuned away from base station 110.
[0056] As indicated above, Figure 3 are provided as examples. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 3 as described.
[0057] Figure 4 4 is a diagram illustrating an example 400 of a tune-away configuration for a UE with multiple subscriptions according to the present disclosure. Figure 4 As shown, UE 120 may include multiple SIM cards (as described above in conjunction with Figure 3 As described above, the multi-SIM UE is shown as a first SIM 305a and a second SIM 305b. Also as described above, the first SIM 305a can be associated with a first subscription (shown as SUB 1), and the second SIM 305b can be associated with a second subscription (shown as SUB 2). The UE 120 can use the first SIM 305a to communicate with the first base station 310a via the first cell 315a (shown as cell 1), and the UE 120 can use the second SIM 305b to communicate with the second base station 310b via the second cell 315b (shown as cell 2), as described above in conjunction with Figure 3 In Figure 4 , the first base station 310a and the second base station 310b are shown as separate base stations 110, but may be integrated into a single base station 110 in some aspects.
[0058] As indicated by reference numeral 405, for the second subscription, the UE 120 may be in a radio resource control (RRC) idle state (or RRC inactive state). In this case, the UE 120 does not have an active connection and is not actively communicating via the second cell 315b using the second subscription (e.g., not in an RRC connected state for the second subscription). The UE 120 may have an active connection and / or may be actively communicating via the first cell 315a using the first subscription (e.g., in an RRC connected state for the first subscription). Therefore, the UE 120 may need to tune away from the first cell 315a to receive and / or monitor messages (e.g., paging messages, reference signals, etc.) on another cell (such as the second cell 315b).
[0059] As indicated by reference numeral 410, the UE 120 may transmit a tune-away configuration in association with the first subscription, the tune-away configuration indicating one or more tune-away parameters associated with the second subscription. For example, the UE 120 may transmit the tune-away configuration to the base station 310a via the first cell 315a. The one or more tune-away parameters indicated in the tune-away configuration may include, for example, a time period during which the UE 120 will tune-away from the first cell 315a (e.g., to tune to the second cell 315b), a start time of the tune-away (e.g., a time domain resource, such as a frame, a subframe, a time slot, a mini-time slot, a symbol, etc.), a starting system frame of the tune-away (e.g., which may be indicated using a system frame number (SFN), an offset, etc.), a starting subframe of the tune-away (e.g., which may be indicated using a subframe number (SN), an offset, etc.), a starting time slot of the tune-away (e.g., which may be indicated using a time slot number, an offset, etc.), a duration of the tune-away (e.g., which may be indicated using a number of time domain resources (such as a number of system frames, a number of subframes, a number of time slots, a number of symbols, etc.)), a periodicity of the tune-away (e.g., an indication of the recurrence of the tune-away with an offset from the indicated starting time domain resource and with an indicated tune-away duration), etc.
[0060] In some aspects, the UE 120 may determine the tune-away configuration based at least in part on information associated with the second subscription. For example, the UE 120 may determine one or more paging occasions configured for the second subscription, and may determine the tune-away configuration based at least in part on the one or more paging occasions. In some aspects, the UE 120 may receive a configuration for the second subscription (e.g., in an RRC configuration message), and the configuration may indicate a set of paging occasions for the second subscription. A paging occasion (PO) may include one or more physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) occasions (sometimes referred to as PDCCH monitoring occasions) that may be used to carry a paging message (sometimes referred to as paging). The paging occasion may occur during a time period (e.g., in one or more time domain resources).
[0061] In some aspects, the UE 120 may determine the tune-away configuration based at least in part on a time period associated with a set of paging occasions configured for the second subscription. For example, the UE 120 may configure the tune-away configuration so that the UE 120 will tune away from the first cell 315a during a time period in which a set of paging occasions occurs, during a time period in which a subset of the set of paging occasions occurs, and the like. In this way, when the UE 120 tunes away from the first cell 315a, the UE 120 is able to receive paging messages for the second subscription. In some aspects, if the UE 120 has more than two subscriptions, the UE 120 may determine the tune-away configuration based at least in part on a time period associated with a set of paging occasions configured for multiple subscriptions (e.g., different from the first subscription). For example, the UE 120 may determine the tune-away configuration based at least in part on a first time period associated with a first set of paging occasions configured for the second subscription, a second time period associated with a second set of paging occasions configured for the third subscription, and the like in a manner similar to that described above. Additionally, the UE 120 may send a tune-away configuration determined at least in part based on the first subscription to a second cell 315b associated with the second subscription.
[0062] In some aspects, the UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration in a configuration message (such as an RRC message). For example, the UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration in an RRC setup complete message, an RRC reconfiguration complete message, and the like. In some aspects, the UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration in an RRC setup complete message associated with establishing a network connection with the first base station 310a for a first subscription (e.g., via the first cell 315a). In some aspects, the UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration in an RRC reconfiguration complete message associated with reconfiguring the network connection with the first base station 310a for the first subscription (e.g., via the first cell 315a). In some aspects, if the tune-away configuration is associated with a recurring tune-away (e.g., with a periodicity indicated in the tune-away configuration), the UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration in an RRC message, such as for monitoring a paging message associated with another subscription. The following is in conjunction with Figure 5 Additional details are described. In some aspects, UE 120 may send a tune-away configuration to target base station 110 in an RRC reconfiguration complete message associated with handover to target base station 110 (eg, which may be base station 310a).
[0063] Additionally or alternatively, UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration in a UE assistance information message. For example, if the tune-away configuration is associated with a one-time tune-away (e.g., there is no periodic indication or recurrence associated with the tune-away), UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration in a UE assistance information message, such as for performing a cell reselection procedure for another subscription. Figure 6 Describe additional details.
[0064] As indicated by reference numeral 415, a base station 310a communicating with a UE 120 via a first cell 315a may send a scheduling request (SR) configuration to the UE 120. In some aspects, the base station 310a may send the SR configuration to the UE 120 based at least in part on receiving a tune-away configuration from the UE 120. The SR configuration may indicate one or more SR opportunities allocated for the UE 120, during which the UE 120 may send the SR via the first cell 315a. The UE 120 may generally use the SR to indicate that the UE 120 has uplink data (e.g., physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) communication) to send, and / or to request an uplink grant for the uplink data. Using the techniques described herein, the UE 120 may send the SR to the base station 310a via the first cell 315a to indicate that the UE 120 is ready to tune back to the first cell 315a.
[0065] In some aspects, the UE 120 may receive a first SR configuration (e.g., in an RRC setup message) indicating a set of SR opportunities for indicating that the UE 120 has uplink data and / or for requesting an uplink grant. The SR configuration received in conjunction with the tune-away may be a second SR configuration that is different from the first SR configuration. For example, the second SR configuration may be used to indicate that the UE 120 is ready to tune back to the first cell 315a. In some aspects, the second SR configuration may include SR opportunities that occur more frequently in time than the first SR configuration. This may enable the UE 120 to quickly tune back to the first cell 315a, rather than waiting until the SR opportunity indicated by the first SR configuration occurs. In some aspects, the second SR configuration may be configured at least in part based on the tune-away configuration. For example, the SR opportunity indicated by the second SR configuration may fall within a time period indicated by the tune-away configuration.
[0066] As indicated by reference numeral 420, the UE 120 may tune-away from the first cell 315a according to the tune-away configuration. For example, the UE 120 may tune-away from the network connection associated with the first subscription and may tune to the second cell 315b. The UE 120 may tune-away at a time indicated by the tune-away configuration (e.g., in a time domain resource indicated in the tune-away configuration), for a duration indicated by the tune-away configuration (e.g., within a set of time domain resources indicated in the tune-away configuration), etc. In some aspects, the UE 120 may start the tune-away at a time indicated by a system frame number, a subframe number, a time slot number, etc. indicated in the tune-away configuration. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 120 may tune-away for a duration (e.g., a tune-away gap) indicated in the tune-away configuration.
[0067] As indicated by reference numeral 425, the base station 310a providing the first cell 315a may suspend communications (e.g., downlink communications and / or uplink communications) and / or may suspend a network connection with the UE 120 according to the tune-away configuration. For example, the base station 310a may suspend communications and / or network connections associated with the first subscription. The base station 310a may suspend communications and / or network connections at a time indicated by the tune-away configuration (e.g., in a time domain resource indicated in the tune-away configuration), for a duration indicated by the tune-away configuration (e.g., within a set of time domain resources indicated in the tune-away configuration), and the like. In some aspects, the base station 310a may suspend communications and / or network connections starting at a time indicated by a system frame number, a subframe number, a time slot number, and the like indicated in the tune-away configuration. Additionally or alternatively, the base station 310a may suspend communications and / or network connections for a duration indicated in the tune-away configuration (e.g., a tune-away gap).
[0068] As indicated by reference numeral 430, the UE 120 may perform communication procedures associated with the second subscription. For example, the UE 120 may communicate with the base station 310b providing the second cell 315b. The UE 120 may perform communication procedures associated with the second subscription after tuning away from the first cell 315a. The communication procedures may include tuning to the second cell 315b, monitoring one or more paging occasions on the second cell 315b, performing a cell reselection procedure to identify the second cell 315b for establishing a network connection, and the like.
[0069] In some aspects, the UE 120 may tune away from the first cell 315a and may perform communication procedures with the second cell 315b for a duration indicated in the tune away configuration (e.g., for the entire duration indicated in the tune away configuration). In this case, the UE 120 may tune back to the first cell 315a (and tune away from the second cell 315b) when the duration expires. In this scenario, the UE 120 may not need to send an SR to notify the base station 310a providing the first cell 315a that the UE 120 is ready to tune back to the first cell 315a. For example, if the base station 310a does not receive an SR from the UE 120 before the indicated tune away duration expires, the base station 310a may resume communication with the UE 120 when the indicated tune away duration expires.
[0070] In some aspects, as shown by reference numeral 435, the UE 120 may send the SR in a configured SR opportunity to notify the base station 310a that the UE is ready to resume communication with the base station 310a. In some aspects, the UE 120 may send the SR in an SR opportunity that occurs at or after the expiration of the tune-away duration indicated in the tune-away configuration. Alternatively, if the UE 120 completes the communication procedure associated with the second subscription before the tune-away duration expires (or if the communication procedure fails), the UE 120 may send the SR in an SR opportunity that occurs after the completion or failure of the communication procedure and before the expiration of the tune-away duration. In this way, the UE 120 can resume communication via the first cell 315a earlier than if the UE 120 waits for the tune-away duration to expire, which can reduce latency.
[0071] In some aspects, as described above, UE 120 may send the SR in an SR opportunity configured according to the second SR configuration (e.g., the SR configuration received from base station 310a after UE 120 sends the tune-away configuration). Alternatively (e.g., if UE 120 does not receive the second SR configuration), UE 120 may send the SR in an SR opportunity configured according to the first SR configuration (e.g., the default SR configuration indicated in the RRC setup message).
[0072] As indicated by reference numeral 440, the UE 120 may resume communication with the base station 310a via the first cell 315a (e.g., associated with the first subscription). For example, the UE 120 may resume communication based at least in part on the completion or failure of a communication procedure associated with the second subscription, based at least in part on the expiration of a tune-away duration indicated in the tune-away configuration, based at least in part on sending an SR request (e.g., and receiving a corresponding grant), etc. Based at least in part on resuming communication with the base station 310a via the first cell 315a, the UE 120 may send uplink communications to the base station 310a and / or may receive downlink communications from the base station 310a. Additionally or alternatively, the base station 310a may unsuspend (e.g., resume) communications associated with the first subscription by sending downlink communications to the UE 120 and / or receiving uplink communications (e.g., uplink communications and / or downlink communications associated with the first subscription) from the UE 120.
[0073] In this manner, UE 120 may be enabled to receive messages (e.g., paging messages) associated with the second subscription during the tune-away from the first subscription, may be enabled to perform a cell reselection procedure for the second subscription if the network connection associated with the second subscription is lost, and / or may be enabled to perform other communication procedures associated with the second subscription during the tune-away from the first subscription. As a result, the UE may avoid or reduce the likelihood of missing messages across different subscriptions, which may result in reduced latency, reduced signaling overhead, and fewer dropped communications.
[0074] Furthermore, by coordinating the tune-away with the base station 310a, the UE 120 may enable the base station 310a to save base station resources (e.g., processing resources, memory resources, antenna resources, etc.) that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with the UE 120 during the time that the UE 120 is tuned away from the base station 310a (e.g., tuned away from the first cell 315a provided by the base station 310a). This also saves network resources that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with the UE 120 during the time that the UE 120 is tuned away from the base station 310a.
[0075] In some aspects, if UE 120 undergoes a handover from a source base station to a target base station, the source base station may send an SR configuration generated by the source base station to the target base station (e.g., in a handover preparation message). Additionally or alternatively, the source base station may send a tune-away configuration received from UE 120 to the target base station (e.g., in a handover preparation message). The target base station may generate a new SR configuration based at least in part on the SR configuration received from the source base station and / or based at least in part on the tune-away configuration. The target base station may send the new SR configuration to UE 120 in a handover command, in an RRC message associated with establishing a connection with UE 120 (e.g., an RRC reconfiguration message), etc.
[0076] In some aspects, the UE 120 may send a new tune-away configuration to the target base station in conjunction with the handover procedure (e.g., after the handover procedure is completed), such as in an RRC reconfiguration complete message. The new tune-away configuration may indicate a different starting system frame number, a different subframe number, a different time slot number, etc., compared to the tune-away configuration indicated to the source base station. In some aspects, the UE 120 may disable tune-away (e.g., may refrain from tuning-away from the target cell and / or target base station) until the handover is complete. For example, if the UE 120 receives mobility information in the RRC reconfiguration message, the UE 120 may disable tune-away until the UE 120 receives an acknowledgment from the target base station in response to the RRC reconfiguration complete message sent by the UE 120 to the target base station. In this manner, by sharing information between base stations during the handover, handover errors may be avoided and signaling overhead may be reduced.
[0077] As indicated above, Figure 4 are provided as examples. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 4 as described.
[0078] Figure 5 is a diagram illustrating an example 500 of a tune-away configuration for a UE with multiple subscriptions in accordance with the present disclosure. Figure 5 An example call flow is shown in which a UE 120 tunes away from a first cell 315a associated with a first subscription of the UE 120 to monitor one or more paging occasions on a second cell 315b associated with a second subscription of the UE 120. Figure 5 As shown, UE 120 may be a multi-SIM UE including multiple SIMs 305 and multiple subscriptions, UE 120 may use a first SIM 305a to communicate with a first base station 310a via a first cell 315a, and UE 120 may use a second SIM 305b to communicate with a second base station 310b via a second cell 315b (shown as cell 2), as described above in conjunction with Figure 4 described.
[0079] As shown in reference numeral 505, for the second subscription, UE 120 may be in an RRC idle state (or an RRC inactive state), as described above in conjunction with Figure 4 As shown at 510, UE 120 may send a tune-away configuration to base station 310a during an RRC procedure with base station 310a, as described above in conjunction with Figure 4 For example, UE 120 may send an RRC setup request message to base station 310a, may receive an RRC setup message from base station 310a, and may send an RRC setup complete message to base station 310a. As shown, the RRC setup complete message may include a tune-away configuration, which may be determined by UE 120 based at least in part on a paging occasion associated with the second subscription.
[0080] As indicated by reference numeral 515, in some aspects, the base station 310a may send an SR configuration associated with the tune away (shown as tuneAway-SR-PeriodicityAndOffset) to the UE 120 in an RRC reconfiguration message. As described elsewhere herein, the SR configuration may indicate a set of SR opportunities that the UE 120 may use to send an SR to indicate that the UE 120 is ready to tune back to the first cell 315a.
[0081] As indicated by reference numeral 520, the UE 120 and the base station 310a may complete the RRC procedure, and the UE 120 may enter an RRC connected state with the base station 310a. When the UE 120 is in the RRC connected state, the UE 120 and the base station 310a may communicate with each other via transmission of uplink data and / or downlink data. As indicated by reference numeral 525, the UE 120 may tune away from the first cell 315a according to the tune away configuration, and the base station 310a may suspend communication and / or may suspend the network connection with the UE 120 according to the tune away configuration, as described above in conjunction with Figure 4 described.
[0082] After tuning away from the first cell 315a and tuning to the second cell 315b, the UE 120 may monitor one or more paging occasions on the second cell 315b (e.g., associated with the second subscription), as indicated by reference numeral 530. In this manner, if the base station 310b sends a paging message via the second cell 315b, the UE 120 may be enabled to receive the paging message and take appropriate action (e.g., respond to the paging message, terminate the connection with the first cell 315a and connect to the second cell 315b via an RRC procedure, return to the first cell 315a, etc.).
[0083] As indicated by reference numeral 535, the UE 120 may tune back to the first cell 315a and resume communication via the first cell 315a based at least in part on completion or failure of a communication procedure associated with the second subscription (e.g., based at least in part on monitoring one or more paging occasions), based at least in part on expiration of a tune-away duration indicated in a tune-away configuration, based at least in part on sending an SR request (e.g., and receiving a corresponding authorization), etc.
[0084] In this way, the UE 120 may be enabled to receive paging messages associated with the second subscription during the period of tuning-off from the first subscription. As a result, the UE may avoid or reduce the likelihood of missing messages across different subscriptions, which may result in reduced latency, reduced signaling overhead, and fewer dropped communications. In addition, by coordinating the tuning-off with the base station 310a, the UE 120 may enable the base station 310a to save base station resources (e.g., processing resources, memory resources, antenna resources, etc.) that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with the UE 120 during the time that the UE 120 is tuned-off from the base station 310a (e.g., tuned-off from the first cell 315a provided by the base station 310a). This also saves network resources that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with the UE 120 during the time that the UE 120 is tuned-off from the base station 310a.
[0085] As indicated above, Figure 5 are provided as examples. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 5 as described.
[0086] Figure 6 is a diagram illustrating an example 600 of a tune-away configuration for a UE with multiple subscriptions in accordance with the present disclosure. Figure 6 An example call flow is shown in which UE 120 tunes away from a first cell 315a associated with a first subscription of UE 120 to perform cell reselection (e.g., establish a connection with a second cell 315b) for a second subscription of UE 120. Figure 6 As shown, UE 120 may be a multi-SIM UE including multiple SIMs 305 and multiple subscriptions, UE 120 may use a first SIM 305a to communicate with a first base station 310a via a first cell 315a, and UE 120 may use a second SIM 305b to communicate with a second base station 310b via a second cell 315b (shown as cell 2), as described above in conjunction with Figure 4 described.
[0087] As shown in reference numeral 605, for the second subscription, UE 120 may be in an RRC idle state (or an RRC inactive state), as described above in conjunction with Figure 4As indicated by reference numeral 610, UE 120 and base station 310a may be in active communication in an RRC connected state (e.g., after completing the RRC procedures described above in conjunction with reference numerals 510, 515, and 520). As indicated by reference numeral 615, UE 120 may lose network connection with the cell for the second subscription, and / or may otherwise need to perform a cell reselection procedure (e.g., due to poor cell signal, among other examples).
[0088] As shown in reference numeral 620, based at least in part on determining that a cell reselection procedure is to be performed for the second subscription, the UE 120 may generate a tune-away configuration associated with tuning away from the first cell 315a to perform a cell reselection procedure for the second subscription. As shown, the tune-away configuration may be used for a one-time tune-away (e.g., without recurrence), and thus the tune-away configuration may not include (e.g., omit) an indication of the periodicity of the tune-away. As shown in reference numeral 625, the UE 120 may send the tune-away configuration associated with performing cell reselection to the base station 310a in a UE assistance information message. In some aspects, the base station 310a may send an SR configuration to the UE 120 based at least in part on receiving the tune-away configuration associated with performing cell reselection. Alternatively, the UE 120 may use another SR configuration received from the base station 310a (e.g., in an RRC setup message, in an RRC reconfiguration message associated with periodic tune-away, etc.).
[0089] As shown at 630, the UE 120 may tune away from the first cell 315a according to the tune away configuration, and the base station 310a may suspend communication and / or may suspend the network connection with the UE 120 according to the tune away configuration, as described above in conjunction with Figure 4After tuning out from the first cell 315a, the UE 120 may perform a cell reselection procedure to select the second cell 315b for the second subscription. For example, the UE 120 may measure reference signals from one or more neighboring cells, may read system information blocks (SIBs) sent by one or more neighboring cells, and may register with a neighboring cell (e.g., the selected second cell 315b). In some aspects, the UE 120 may establish an RRC connection with the second cell 315b, and may initiate and / or trigger the release of the RRC connection (e.g., by triggering an RRC release). For example, after establishing the RRC connection, the UE 120 may initiate a release auxiliary indication (RAI) activation procedure by sending an indication of an empty buffer to the base station 310b. For example, the UE 120 may send a buffer status report (BSR) in a media access control (MAC) control element (CE) (collectively referred to as MAC-CE) indicating that the buffer size is zero (e.g., BSR=0). This may trigger the base station 310b to release the RRC connection (such as by sending an RRC release message).
[0090] As indicated by reference numeral 635, the UE 120 may tune back to the first cell 315a and resume communications via the first cell 315a based at least in part on completion or failure of a communication procedure associated with the second subscription (e.g., based at least in part on a failed or successful cell reselection), based at least in part on expiration of a tune-away duration indicated in the tune-away configuration, based at least in part on sending an SR request (e.g., and receiving a corresponding grant), etc. In some aspects, if the cell reselection fails, the UE 120 may wait for the retry duration (e.g., according to a timer for tune-away for cell reselection) and may send another tune-away configuration associated with the cell reselection, as described above. Additionally or alternatively, the UE 120 may send another tune-away configuration associated with the cell reselection after the communication on the first cell 315a is completed.
[0091] As indicated by reference numeral 640, after a successful cell reselection, the UE 120 may generate and send (e.g., in a UE assistance information message) a new tune-away configuration associated with monitoring the paging occasions for the second subscription. For example, the UE 120 may determine the tune-away configuration based at least in part on information associated with the selected second cell 315b. For example, the UE 120 may determine one or more paging occasions configured for the second cell 315b, and may determine the tune-away configuration based at least in part on the one or more paging occasions. In some aspects, the UE 120 may receive (e.g., in an RRC configuration message) a configuration for the second subscription, and the configuration may indicate a set of paging occasions for the second subscription. In this manner, when the UE 120 selects a new cell (e.g., the second cell 315b) for the second subscription, the UE 120 may send an updated tune-away configuration to the base station 310a via the first cell 315a. As indicated, the tune-away configuration associated with monitoring the paging occasions may indicate the periodicity of the tune-away, as described elsewhere herein.
[0092] In this way, the UE 120 may be enabled to perform cell reselection for the second subscription during the tune-away from the first subscription. As a result, the UE may maintain a connection for the second subscription to avoid or reduce the likelihood of missing messages on the second subscription, which may result in reduced latency, reduced signaling overhead, and fewer dropped communications. In addition, by coordinating the tune-away with the base station 310a, the UE 120 may enable the base station 310a to save base station resources (e.g., processing resources, memory resources, antenna resources, etc.) that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with the UE 120 during the time that the UE 120 is tuned away from the base station 310a (e.g., tuned away from the first cell 315a provided by the base station 310a). This also saves network resources that would otherwise be used to attempt to communicate with the UE 120 during the time that the UE 120 is tuned away from the base station 310a.
[0093] As indicated above, Figure 6 are provided as examples. Other examples may differ from those described in Figure 6 as described.
