This application is a divisional application of a Chinese patent application filed on September 24, 2020, with application number 202080069231.1, and invention name “Support for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring”. CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0001] This patent application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 911,721, filed on October 7, 2019, entitled “SUPPORT OF SIMULTANEOUS UNICAST AND MULTICAST MONITORING,” and U.S. Non-Provisional Patent Application No. 16 / 948,568, filed on September 23, 2020, entitled “SUPPORT OF SIMULTANEOUS UNICAST AND MULTICAST MONITORING,” the contents of which are hereby expressly incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field

[0002] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communications and, more particularly, to techniques and devices for supporting simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. Background Art

[0003] Wireless communication systems are widely deployed to provide a variety of telecommunication services, such as telephony, video, data, instant messaging, and broadcasting. Typical wireless communication systems may employ multiple access technologies that can support communication with multiple users by sharing available system resources (e.g., bandwidth, transmit power, etc., or a combination thereof). Examples of such multiple access technologies include code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) systems, and long term evolution (LTE). LTE / LTE-Advanced is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile standard promulgated by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

[0004] The above multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different user equipment (UE) to communicate at the city, national, regional and even global levels. The new air interface (NR), also known as 5G, is a set of enhancements to the LTE mobile standard promulgated by 3GPP. NR is designed to better support mobile broadcast Internet access by improving spectrum efficiency, reducing costs, improving services, utilizing new spectrum, and better integrating with other open standards, which use orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDMA) (CP-OFDM) with cyclic prefix (CP) on the downlink (DL), and use CP-OFDM or SC-FDM (e.g., also known as discrete Fourier transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM)) on the uplink (UL) and support beamforming, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna technology and carrier aggregation. However, as the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, there is a need for further improvements in LTE and NR technologies. Preferably, these improvements are applicable to other multiple access technologies and telecommunication standards that adopt these technologies.

[0005] In a wireless network, a user equipment (UE) can communicate with one or more base stations (BS) on the downlink to receive unicast services (services directed to a specific UE) or multicast services (services directed to multiple UEs). In some cases, the UE may be able to monitor unicast services and multicast services at the same time. In this case, the UE may be able to monitor unicast services and multicast services in the same time domain resources (e.g., the same orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol or the same time slot). However, in order to efficiently configure the UE to monitor unicast services and multicast services simultaneously, additional signaling may be required. Summary of the invention

[0044] The various aspects of the present disclosure will be described more fully below with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, the present disclosure can be embodied in many different forms, and should not be understood as being limited to any specific structure or function given in the entire present disclosure. On the contrary, these aspects are provided to make the present disclosure thorough and complete, and will fully express the scope of the present disclosure to those skilled in the art. Based on the teachings of this article, those skilled in the art can recognize that the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover any aspect of the present disclosure disclosed herein, whether independent of any other aspect of the present disclosure or implemented in combination therewith. For example, an apparatus or a method can be implemented using any amount of aspects set forth herein. In addition, the scope of the present disclosure is intended to cover such apparatus or methods that use other structures, functions, or structures and functions practiced outside or different from the various aspects of the disclosure set forth herein. Any aspect of the present disclosure disclosed herein can be embodied by one or more elements of the claims.

[0045] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various devices and techniques. These devices and techniques will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, units, components, circuits, steps, processes, algorithms, etc., or combinations thereof (collectively referred to as "elements"). These elements may be implemented using hardware, software, or a combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends on the specific application and the design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0046] In a wireless network, a user equipment (UE) may communicate with one or more base stations (BSs) on a downlink to receive unicast services (services directed to a specific UE) or multicast services (services directed to multiple UEs). In some cases, the UE may be able to monitor unicast services and multicast services simultaneously. In this case, the UE may be able to monitor unicast services and multicast services in the same time domain resources (e.g., the same orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol, the same time slot, or a combination thereof). However, in order to efficiently configure the UE to monitor unicast services and multicast services simultaneously, additional signaling may be required.

[0047] For example, the UE may be configured to simultaneously monitor unicast traffic and multicast traffic on a beam set (e.g., one or more beams) configured for unicast traffic only or multicast traffic only, which may be a less efficient beam set relative to another beam set. As another example, a fast Fourier transform (FFT) timing window used by the UE for unicast traffic reception may be different from an FFT timing window used by the UE for multicast traffic reception. If the timing of resources configured for unicast traffic reception and the timing of resources configured for multicast traffic reception do not allow the UE to switch between using different FFT timing windows, the UE may instead use the same FFT timing window for both unicast traffic reception and multicast traffic reception, which may result in inefficient FFT processing or traffic loss, among other examples.

[0048] Some aspects described herein provide techniques and apparatus for supporting simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. In some aspects, a UE may send an indication of one or more first parameters for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring to a BS. The one or more first parameters may be based at least in part on one or more capabilities of the UE, one or more measurements performed by the UE, or other factors, and may indicate one or more beams for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, a timing offset between an FFT timing window for unicast service reception and an FFT timing window for multicast service reception, a carrier aggregation capability for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, a dual connection capability for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, or other parameters.

[0049] The BS may receive one or more first parameters, may configure one or more second parameters for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, may send an indication of the one or more second parameters to the UE, and may send at least one of a unicast service or a multicast service to the UE based at least in part on the one or more first parameters and the one or more second parameters. The one or more second parameters may include an early indication of resources configured for unicast services and resources configured for multicast services, an indication of a time gap between resources configured for unicast services and resources configured for multicast services, or other parameters.

[0050] The indication of one or more first parameters and the configuration of one or more second parameters may allow the UE to efficiently perform simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. For example, the one or more first parameters and the one or more second parameters may allow the UE to simultaneously monitor unicast services and multicast services using a beam set specifically selected for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. As another example, the timing offset between the FFT timing window for unicast service reception and the FFT timing window for multicast service reception may provide the UE with sufficient timing to switch between using the FFT timing window for unicast service reception and using the FFT timing window for multicast service reception. As another example, early indication of resources configured for unicast services and resources configured for multicast services may allow the UE to monitor only unicast services or only multicast services in a subset of resources that allows flexible configuration for unicast services or multicast services.

[0051] Figure 1 is a block diagram showing an exemplary wireless network according to various aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless network may be a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network or some other wireless network, such as a 5G or NR network. The wireless network may include some BS110 (shown as BS110a, BS110b, BS110c, and BS110d) and other network entities. The BS is an entity that communicates with the UE and may also be referred to as a Node B, eNodeB, eNB, gNB, NR BS, 5G Node B (NB), access point (AP), transmit receive point (TRP), etc. or a combination thereof (these terms are used interchangeably herein). Each BS can provide communication coverage for a specific geographic area. In 3GPP, the term "cell" may refer to the coverage area of a BS or a BS serving this coverage area, depending on the context in which the term is used.

[0052] A BS may provide communication coverage for a macro cell, a micro cell, a femto cell, or another type of cell. A macro cell may cover a relatively large geographic area (e.g., a radius of several kilometers) and may allow unrestricted access to UEs that have subscribed to a service. A micro cell may cover a relatively small geographic area and may allow unrestricted access to UEs that have subscribed to a service. A femto cell may cover a smaller geographic area (e.g., at home) and may allow restricted access to UEs associated with the femto cell (e.g., UEs in a closed subscriber group (CSG)). A BS for a macro cell may be referred to as a macro BS. A BS for a micro cell may be referred to as a micro BS. A BS for a femto cell may be referred to as a femto BS or a home BS. A BS may support one or more (e.g., three) cells.

[0053] The wireless network may be a heterogeneous network including different types of BSs, such as macro BSs, pico BSs, femto BSs, relay BSs, etc. or a combination thereof. These different types of BSs may have different transmit power levels, different coverage areas, and different effects on interference in the wireless network. For example, a macro BS may have a high transmit power level (e.g., 5 to 40 watts), while a pico BS, a femto BS, and a relay BS may have a lower transmit power level (e.g., 0.1 to 2 watts). Figure 1 In the example shown in , BS110a can be a macro BS for macro cell 102a, BS110b can be a pico BS for pico cell 102b, and BS110c can be a femto BS for femto cell 102c. A network controller 130 can be coupled to a set of BSs 102a, 102b, 110a, and 110b and can provide coordination and control for these BSs. The network controller 130 can communicate with the BSs via a backhaul. The BSs can also communicate with each other, for example, directly or indirectly, via wireless or wired backhauls.

[0054] In some aspects, the cell may not be stationary, but rather the geographic area of the cell may move depending on the location of the mobile BS. In some aspects, the BSs may be interconnected to each other or to one or more other BSs or network nodes (not shown) in a wireless network via various backhaul interfaces, such as direct physical connections using any suitable transport network, virtual networks, etc., or a combination thereof.

[0055] A wireless network may also include relay stations. A relay station is an entity that can receive data transmissions from an upstream station (e.g., a BS or a UE) and send data transmissions to a downstream station (e.g., a UE or a BS). A relay station may also be a UE that can relay transmissions for other UEs. Figure 1In the example shown in , a relay station 110d may communicate with a macro BS 110a and a UE 120d to facilitate communication between the BS 110a and the UE 120d. A relay station may also be referred to as a relay BS, a relay base station, a relay, etc., or a combination thereof.

[0056] UE 120 (e.g., 120a, 120b, 120c) can be dispersed throughout the wireless network, and each UE can be stationary or mobile. UE can also be referred to as an access terminal, terminal, mobile station, subscriber unit, station, etc. or a combination thereof. UE can be a cellular phone (e.g., a smart phone), a personal digital assistant (PDA), a wireless modem, a wireless communication device, a handheld device, a laptop computer, a cordless phone, a wireless local loop (WLL) station, a tablet computer, a camera, a gaming device, a netbook, a smartbook, an ultrabook, a medical device or medical device, a biometric sensor / device, a wearable device (smart watch, smart clothes, smart glasses, smart wristband, smart jewelry (e.g., smart ring, smart bracelet, etc.)), an entertainment device (e.g., a music or video device, or a satellite radio device, etc.), a vehicle component or sensor, a smart meter / sensor, an industrial manufacturing device, a global positioning system device, or any other suitable device configured to communicate via a wireless medium.

[0057] Some UEs may be considered as machine type communication (MTC) or evolved or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) UEs. MTC UEs and eMTC UEs include, for example, robots, drones, remote devices, sensors, meters, detectors, positioning tags, etc., or a combination thereof, that can communicate with a base station, other devices (e.g., remote devices), or some other entity. A wireless node may provide a connection to a network or provide a connection to a network via a wired or wireless communication link (e.g.). Some UEs may be considered as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, or may be implemented as NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) devices. Some UEs may be considered as customer-side equipment (CPE). UE 120 may be included inside a housing that houses components of UE 120, such as a processor component, a memory component, etc., or a combination thereof.

[0058] In general, any number of wireless networks may be deployed within a given geographic area. Each wireless network may support a specific radio access technology (RAT) and may operate on one or more frequencies or frequency channels. Frequencies may also be referred to as carriers, etc. or a combination thereof. Each frequency may support a single RAT within a given geographic area, thereby avoiding interference between wireless networks with different RATs. In some cases, NR or 5G RAT networks may be deployed.

[0059] In some aspects, two or more UEs 120 (e.g., shown as UE 120a and UE 120e) may communicate directly with each other using one or more side link channels (e.g., without using base station 110 as an intermediary). For example, UE 120 may communicate using peer-to-peer (P2P) communication, device-to-device (D2D) communication, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) protocol (e.g., which may include vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) protocol, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) protocol, etc. or a combination thereof), mesh network, etc. or a combination thereof. In this case, UE 120 may perform scheduling operations, resource selection operations, or other operations described elsewhere herein as being performed by base station 110.

[0060] Figure 2 1 is a block diagram illustrating exemplary base station (BS) and user equipment (UE) communications in a wireless network according to aspects of the present disclosure. The base station 110 may be equipped with T antennas 234a through 234t, and the UE 120 may be equipped with R antennas 252a through 252r, where generally T≥1 and R≥1.

[0061] At the base station 110, the transmit processor 220 may receive data from a data source 212 for one or more UEs, select one or more modulation and coding schemes (MCS) for each UE based at least in part on a channel quality indicator (CQI) received from the UE, process (e.g., encode) data for each UE based at least in part on the MCS selected for the UE, and provide data symbols for all UEs. The transmit processor 220 may also process system information (e.g., for semi-static resource partitioning information (SRPI), etc. or a combination thereof) and control information (e.g., CQI requests, grants, upper layer signaling, etc. or a combination thereof) and provide overhead symbols and control symbols. The transmit processor 220 may also generate reference symbols for reference signals (e.g., cell-specific reference signals (CRS)) and synchronization signals (e.g., primary synchronization signals (PSS) and secondary synchronization signals (SSS)). If applicable, the transmit (TX) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor 230 can perform spatial processing (e.g., precoding) on data symbols, control symbols, overhead symbols, or reference symbols, and can provide T output symbol streams to T modulators (MOD) 232a to 232t. Each modulator 232 can process a corresponding output symbol stream (e.g., for OFDM, etc. or a combination thereof) to obtain an output sample stream. Each modulator 232 can further process (e.g., convert to analog, amplify, filter, and up-convert) the output sample stream to obtain a downlink signal. T downlink signals from modulators 232a to 232t can be sent via T antennas 234a to 234t, respectively. According to various aspects described in more detail below, position coding can be used to generate synchronization signals to convey additional information.

[0062] At the UE 120, antennas 252a to 252r may receive downlink signals from the base station 110 or other base stations, and may provide received signals to R demodulators (DEMODs) 254a to 254r, respectively. Each demodulator 254 may condition (e.g., filter, amplify, downconvert, and digitize) the received signal to obtain input samples. Each demodulator 254 may further process the input samples (e.g., for OFDM, etc., or a combination thereof) to obtain received symbols. The MIMO detector 256 may obtain received symbols from all R demodulators 254a to 254r, perform MIMO detection on the received symbols if applicable, and provide detected symbols. The receive processor 258 may process (e.g., decode) the detected symbols, provide decoded data for the UE 120 to the data sink 260, and provide decoded control information and system information to the controller / processor 280. The channel processor may determine a reference signal received power (RSRP), a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a reference signal received quality (RSRQ), a channel quality indicator (CQI), etc., or a combination thereof. In some aspects, one or more components of UE 120 may be included in a housing.

[0063] On the uplink, at the UE 120, a transmit processor 264 may receive and process data from a data source 262 and control information from a controller / processor 280 (e.g., for reports including RSRP, RSSI, RSRQ, CQI, etc., or a combination thereof). The transmit processor 264 may also generate reference symbols for one or more reference signals. Symbols for the transmit processor 264 may be precoded by a TX MIMO processor 266, if applicable, further processed by modulators 254a through 254r (e.g., for discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DFT-s-OFDM), orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with a cyclic prefix (CP) (CP-OFDM), etc., or a combination thereof), and transmitted to the base station 110. At base station 110, uplink signals from UE 120 and other UEs may be received by antenna 234, processed by demodulator 232, detected by MIMO detector 236 if applicable, and further processed by receive processor 238 to obtain decoded data and control information sent by UE 120. Receive processor 238 may provide decoded data to data sink 239 and decoded control information to controller / processor 240. Base station 110 may include communication unit 244 and communicate to network controller 130 via communication unit 244. Network controller 130 may include communication unit 294, controller / processor 290, and memory 292.

[0064] The controller / processor 240 of the base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, or Figure 2 Any other component of the controller / processor 240 of the base station 110, the controller / processor 280 of the UE 120, or the like may perform one or more techniques associated with supporting simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, as described in more detail elsewhere herein. Figure 2 Any other component of the can perform or direct e.g. Figure 4 The process of 400 Figure 5 The process of 500 Figure 6 The process of 600 Figure 7 The process 700 Figure 8 The process of 800 Fig. 9 The operations of process 900 or other processes described herein may be performed. Memories 242 and 282 may store data and program codes for base station 110 and UE 120, respectively. Scheduler 246 may schedule UEs for data transmission on the downlink or uplink.

[0065] In some aspects, the UE 120 may include a unit for sending an indication of one or more beams for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, a unit for receiving at least one of a unicast service or a multicast service using one or more beams, the like, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the UE 120 may include a unit for determining a timing offset between unicast service reception and multicast service reception, a unit for sending an indication of the timing offset, the like, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the UE 120 may include a unit for receiving an indication that one or more time domain resources among a plurality of time domain resources that are allowed to be flexibly configured for unicast services or multicast services are configured for only unicast services or only multicast services, a unit for receiving only unicast services or only multicast services in one or more time domain resources, the like, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, UE 120 may include means for sending a first indication of the ability of UE 120 to support simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, means for sending at least one of a second indication of the number of frequency carriers supported by UE 120 for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring or a third indication of the UE's dual connectivity capability for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, and the like or a combination thereof. In some aspects, UE 120 may include means for receiving a first DCI communication from a unicast TRP (the first DCI communication configuring one or more first time domain resources for unicast service reception), means for receiving a second DCI communication from a multicast TRP (the second DCI communication configuring one or more second time domain resources for multicast service reception), and the like or a combination thereof. In some aspects, such means may include a combination of Figure 2 One or more components of UE 120 are described.

[0066] In some aspects, BS 110 may include a unit for receiving an indication of a timing offset between reception of a unicast service and reception of a multicast service, a unit for sending an indication of a time gap between one or more first time domain resources configured for unicast service and one or more second time domain resources configured for multicast service (the time gap is based at least in part on the timing offset), etc. or a combination thereof. In some aspects, BS 110 may include a unit for sending a first indication that one or more first time domain resources among a plurality of time domain resources that are allowed to be flexibly configured for unicast service or multicast service are configured for only unicast service, a unit for sending a second indication that one or more second time domain resources included in a plurality of time domain resources are configured for only multicast service, etc. or a combination thereof. In some aspects, such a unit may include a unit for transmitting a first indication that one or more first time domain resources included in a plurality of time domain resources are configured for only multicast service. Figure 2 One or more components of base station 110 are described.

[0067] Figures 3A-3F 1 is a diagram illustrating one or more examples of supporting simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring according to aspects of the present disclosure. In some aspects, one or more examples may include an example of communication between a UE such as UE 120 and a BS such as BS 110. In some aspects, the UE and the BS may be included in a wireless network, such as described above in conjunction with Figure 1 The wireless network described herein or another wireless network. In some aspects, one or more examples may include a greater number of UEs, a greater number of BSs, or a combination thereof.

[0068] In some aspects, the UE and the BS may communicate on an access link, which may include an uplink and a downlink. In some aspects, the BS may send downlink traffic to the UE on a downlink. The downlink traffic may include unicast traffic, multicast traffic (or broadcast traffic), or a combination thereof. In such an example, the UE may be configured to monitor unicast traffic in one or more sets of only unicast monitoring resources (which may include one or more OFDM symbols, one or more time slots, one or more subcarriers, or a combination thereof), may be configured to monitor multicast traffic in one or more sets of only multicast monitoring resources (which may include one or more OFDM symbols, one or more time slots, one or more subcarriers, or a combination thereof), and may be configured to monitor unicast traffic and multicast traffic simultaneously in one or more sets of resources that are permitted to be flexibly configured by the BS (which may include one or more OFDM symbols, one or more time slots, one or more subcarriers, or a combination thereof).

[0069] In some cases, the BS may not be aware of various UE capabilities or operating conditions that may affect the UE's ability to support simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. As a result, the BS may configure the transmission of unicast and multicast services in a manner that may be inefficient for the UE or incompatible with the UE's capabilities.

[0070] like Figure 3A As shown in the figure mark 302 in, in order to enable the BS to efficiently configure simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring for the UE, the UE may send an indication of one or more first parameters to the BS. The one or more first parameters may be parameters for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. In some aspects, the one or more first parameters may also include parameters for only unicast monitoring, parameters for only multicast monitoring, or a combination thereof.

[0071] In some aspects, the one or more first parameters may include the ability of the UE to support simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring (i.e., an indication that the UE supports simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring). In some aspects, the one or more first parameters may include an indication of the carrier aggregation capability of the UE, an indication of the dual connectivity capability of the UE, or a combination thereof. In some cases, the BS may configure the multicast bandwidth part (BWP) and the unicast BWP using different numerical parameters or other different configurations. For example, the BS may configure the multicast BWP to have a larger cyclic prefix relative to the unicast BWP to account for single frequency network multicast services transmitted from multiple transmit receive points (TRPs) (which may be implemented by one or more BSs 110). As another example, the multicast BWP and the unicast BWP may be subject to asynchronous timing.

[0072] The above-mentioned different configurations of multicast BWP and unicast BWP may result in the UE having different carrier aggregation or dual connection capabilities for simultaneously monitoring unicast services and multicast services relative to unicast monitoring only or multicast monitoring only. Therefore, the carrier aggregation capability of the UE may indicate the ability of the UE to support carrier aggregation while monitoring unicast services and multicast services simultaneously, or may indicate the number of carriers on which the UE can support carrier aggregation while monitoring unicast services and multicast services simultaneously, as well as other examples. The dual connection capability of the UE may identify the ability of the UE to support dual connection and monitor unicast services and multicast services simultaneously (e.g., the ability to connect to multiple BSs or TRPs at the same time).

[0073] In some aspects, the one or more first parameters may indicate one or more beams for unicast-only monitoring, one or more beams for multicast-only monitoring, one or more beams for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, or a combination thereof. If the best or most efficient beams for unicast-only monitoring, multicast-only monitoring, and simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring are not aligned, the UE may indicate different beams for unicast-only monitoring, multicast-only monitoring, and simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring.

[0074] For example, Figure 3B As shown in , the UE can indicate one or more beams for unicast-only monitoring (beam set 1), can indicate one or more beams for multicast-only monitoring (beam set 2), and can indicate one or more beams for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring (beam set 3). The beams included in beam set 1, beam set 2, and beam set 3 can be the same beam, different beams, or a combination thereof. In this way, the BS can configure the UE to use beam set 1 for unicast-only monitoring resources configured by the BS, can configure the UE to use beam set 2 for multicast-only monitoring resources configured by the BS, and can configure the UE to use beam set 3 for resources for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring configured by the BS.

[0075] In some aspects, the one or more first parameters may include a timing offset between an FFT timing window for unicast service reception and an FFT timing window for multicast service reception. The FFT timing window may include a timing window for converting an analog signal received at a UE into digital data. The unicast FFT timing window may be a timing window for converting a unicast signal into digital data, and the multicast FFT timing window may be a timing window for converting a multicast signal into digital data.

[0076] like Figure 3C As shown in the examples shown in , in some cases, due to different transmission points involved in unicast and multicast transmissions, the corresponding FFT timing windows for unicast service reception and multicast service reception may have different durations. In these examples, the UE may determine a timing offset between the UE's unicast FFT timing window and the UE's multicast FFT timing window, and may send an indication of the timing offset to the BS.

[0077] exist Figure 3D In 304, the BS may receive one or more first parameters from the UE, may configure one or more second parameters for the UE to perform simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring based at least in part on the one or more first parameters, and may send an indication of the one or more second parameters to the UE. In some aspects, the one or more second parameters may indicate that one or more beams for unicast-only monitoring identified in the one or more first parameters are configured for unicast-only monitoring resources. In some aspects, the one or more second parameters may indicate that one or more beams for multicast-only monitoring identified in the one or more first parameters are configured for multicast-only monitoring resources. In some aspects, the one or more second parameters may indicate that one or more beams for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring identified in the one or more first parameters are configured for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring resources.

[0078] In some aspects, the one or more second parameters may include: an indication of a configuration of resources that are allowed to be flexibly configured for unicast services or multicast services. In some aspects, the resources that are allowed to be flexibly configured for unicast services or multicast services may include simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring resources. In some aspects, the one or more second parameters may identify the number of frequency carriers aggregated for unicast monitoring only, the number of frequency carriers aggregated for multicast monitoring only, the number of frequency carriers aggregated for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, or a combination thereof.

[0079] like Figure 3E As shown in the example shown in , an indication of configuration for flexible resources (where the resources can potentially be used for unicast or multicast transmission) can be an early indication (i.e., an indication sent to the UE in the time domain before the corresponding resources appear) of the following: a subset of resources are configured for unicast-only services and another subset of resources are configured for multicast-only services. The early indication allows the UE to switch between unicast-only monitoring (e.g., in resources configured for unicast-only services) and multicast-only monitoring (e.g., in resources configured for multicast-only services) within simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring resources. This allows the UE to use unicast beams and unicast FFT timing windows for resources configured for unicast-only services, and to use multicast beams and multicast FFT timing windows for resources configured for multicast-only services, which can improve the efficiency of downlink service reception at the UE during simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring of resources.

[0080] In some aspects, such as Figure 3F As shown in , one or more second parameters may include a time gap between multicast-only monitoring resources and unicast-only monitoring resources (which may or may not be included in a set of simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring resources) configured for the UE. In some aspects, the time gap may be based at least in part on an indication of a timing offset between a unicast FFT timing window and a multicast FFT timing window indicated in one or more first parameters. The time gap may include one or more OFDM symbols or one or more time slots, which allow the UE to switch between: using a unicast FFT timing window during unicast-only monitoring resources, and using a multicast FFT timing window during multicast-only monitoring resources. In addition, the time gap may allow the UE to perform automatic gain control adjustments and other adjustments between unicast-only monitoring resources and multicast-only monitoring resources.

[0081] In some aspects, the BS may send an indication of the one or more second parameters to the UE in one or more downlink control information (DCI) communications, one or more medium access control (MAC) control element (MAC-CE) communications, one or more radio resource control (RRC) communications, DCI included in one or more physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) communications, or a combination thereof. In some aspects, the UE may receive indications of the one or more second parameters from multiple BSs or TRPs.

[0082] In some aspects, the UE may receive downlink traffic from the BS based at least in part on one or more first parameters, one or more second parameters, other parameters, or a combination thereof. For example, the UE may use a unicast FFT timing window, use one or more beams for unicast-only monitoring, or a combination thereof, to monitor and may receive unicast traffic in unicast-only monitoring resources. As another example, the UE may use a multicast FFT timing window, use one or more beams for multicast-only monitoring, or a combination thereof, to monitor and may receive multicast traffic in multicast-only monitoring resources. As another example, the UE may use one or more beams for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring to monitor and may receive at least one of unicast traffic or multicast traffic in resources with both unicast monitoring and multicast monitoring.

[0083] As another example, the UE may switch between using a unicast FFT timing window in unicast-only monitoring resources and using a multicast FFT timing window in multicast-only monitoring resources during a time gap configured by the BS, may perform automatic gain control adjustments during the time gap, or a combination thereof. As another example, the UE may receive an early indication that simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring resources are configured into a subset of resources for unicast-only services and a subset of resources for multicast-only services, and may switch between unicast service reception in resources for unicast-only services and multicast service reception in resources for multicast-only services.

[0084] In some aspects, if one or more parameters indicate that the UE supports simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring, the UE can receive unicast services and multicast services simultaneously, similar to the case where the UE receives multiple PDCCH communications and physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) communications in a multi-TRP configuration. In these examples, the UE can receive unicast DCI communications from a unicast TRP and can receive multicast DCI communications from a multicast TRP. The unicast TRP can be virtual and can include multiple physical TRPs (e.g., a first physical TRP set). The multicast TRP can be virtual and can include multiple physical TRPs (e.g., a second physical TRP set). The first physical TRP set and the second physical TRP set may have or have no overlapping physical TRPs.

[0085] Unicast DCI communications may configure and schedule unicast services in a set of simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring resources, and multicast DCI communications may configure and schedule multicast services in a set of simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring resources. In some aspects, unicast DCI communications and multicast DCI communications may configure unicast services and multicast services so that unicast services and multicast services are sent in resources that do not overlap in the time domain or the frequency domain.

[0086] In some aspects, unicast DCI communications and multicast DCI communications may configure unicast services and multicast services, so that unicast services and multicast services are sent in resources that at least partially or completely overlap in the time domain, frequency domain, or a combination thereof. In these examples, in order to improve the ability of the UE to detect and decode unicast services and multicast services, the unicast TRP and the multicast TRP may send a unicast demodulation reference signal (DMRS) associated with the unicast service and a multicast DMRS associated with the multicast service, respectively. The unicast TRP may send a unicast DMRS in resources configured for unicast services, and the multicast TRP may send a multicast DMRS in resources configured for multicast services.

[0087] In some aspects, the unicast TRP and the multicast TRP may send unicast DMRS and multicast DMRS, respectively, so that the unicast DMRS and the multicast DMRS are included in different code division multiplexing groups. In some aspects, the unicast TRP and the multicast TRP may send unicast services and multicast services, respectively, so that the unicast services are rate matched at least in part based on the multicast DMRS, and the multicast services are rate matched at least in part based on the unicast DMRS.

[0088] In this way, one or more first parameters and one or more second parameters may allow efficient simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring at the UE. For example, one or more first parameters and one or more second parameters may allow the UE to simultaneously monitor unicast services and multicast services using a beam set specifically selected for simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. As another example, a timing offset between an FFT timing window for unicast service reception and an FFT timing window for multicast service reception may provide the UE with sufficient timing to switch between using an FFT timing window for unicast service reception and using an FFT timing window for multicast service reception. As another example, early indication of resources configured for unicast services and resources configured for multicast services may allow the UE to monitor only unicast services or only multicast services in a subset of resources that are allowed to be flexibly configured for unicast services or multicast services.

[0089] Figure 44 is a diagram illustrating an exemplary process 400 performed by a UE according to aspects of the present disclosure. In the exemplary process 400, a UE (e.g., UE 120) performs operations associated with supporting simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. In the exemplary process 500, a UE (e.g., UE 120) performs operations associated with supporting simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. [0105] In a second additional aspect, alone or in combination with the first aspect, receiving unicast services in the one or more time domain resources includes using one or more unicast beams and using a unicast FFT timing window to receive unicast services. In a third additional aspect, alone or in combination with one or more of the first or second aspects, receiving multicast services in the one or more other time domain resources includes using one or more multicast beams and using a multicast FFT timing window to receive multicast services.

[0107] Fig. 99 is a diagram illustrating an exemplary process 900 performed, for example, by a UE, according to aspects of the present disclosure. In the exemplary process 900, a UE (e.g., UE 120) performs operations associated with supporting simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring. Fig. 9 As shown, in some aspects, example process 900 may include sending a first indication of the UE's ability to support simultaneous unicast and multicast monitoring (block 910).
