Additionally, the seat base frame 14 can include lateral support structures 164. The lateral support structures 164 are positioned on opposite sides of the seat base 12 and extend from the front section 16 to the rear section 18 of the seat base 12. Accordingly, the lateral support structures 164 are positioned near the rail sliding assembly 76. As described in more detail herein, the lateral support structures 164 are configured to engage with the lifting assembly 34 to assist in adjusting the direction of the seat base 12.
[0027] Still with reference to Fig. 6 as well Fig. 7A-8 is the vehicle seat assembly 10 with the support of the lifting assembly 34 between a seated position (see Fig. 11A) and a reclined position (see Fig. 11B). The lifting assembly 34 can be a linear lifting mechanism configured to adjust the front section 16 of the seat base 12. The lifting assembly 34 can be operated between the engaged position, configured to adjust the front section 16 of the seat base 12 upwards towards the reclined position, or the disengaged position, configured to adjust the front section 16 of the seat base 12 downwards towards the seated position. In various examples, the lifting assembly 34 includes a motor 168 located in a motor housing 170. The motor 168 is located directly below the front section 16 of the seat base 12. More specifically, the motor 168 can be located centrally below the front section 16 of the seat base 12 relative to the vehicle floor 80.In other words, the motor 168 is located centrally near the underside of the front section 16 of the seat base 12. A pair of motor shafts 172a, 172b extend from opposite ends of the motor 168 and are located in the motor housing 170. The motor shafts 172a, 172b extend from each end of the motor 168 to engage with opposing lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b, each positioned near the rails 78 of the rail slide assembly 76 and each engaging with an inner section 176 of the lateral support structures 164. Each of the opposing lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b includes the base support 36, which extends from the underside 28 of the seat shell 24 near the front section 16 to the vehicle floor 15. Accordingly, each of the base supports 36 is positioned near, but not parallel or perpendicular to, a section of the rails 78 of the rail slide assembly 76.However, it is considered that the base support 36 may be positioned in various configurations relative to the rail slide assembly 76, including parallel or perpendicular to the rail slide assembly 76.
[0028] The base support 36 can be coupled to a connector 178 via a first coupling connector 182a and a second coupling connector 182b. The connector 178 is positioned on an outer section 180 of the lateral support structures 164. In various examples, the base support 36 of the opposing lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b can include an opening 184 at the first end 38a, configured to receive one end of the first coupling connector 182a, and a curved section 186 at the second end 38b, configured to engage with the second coupling connector 182b. The connector 178 can include a first curved end 187a and a second curved end 187b. When the first coupling connector 182a extends through the opening 184 of the base support 36, the first coupling connector 182a can engage with the first curved end 187a of the connector link 178.Additionally, if the second coupling connector 182b extends along the curved section 186 of the base support 36, the second coupling connector 182b can engage with the second curved end 187b of the connector link 178 to assist in securing and positioning the lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b on the seat base 12.
[0029] Additionally, a coupling bracket 188 can be coupled to the rail sliding assembly and positioned between the base bracket 36 and the connector 178. The coupling bracket 188 can include a passage 190 through which the first coupling connector 182a can extend to engage with the connector 178. The coupling bracket 188 is configured to assist in further securing the opposing lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b, and consequently the lifting assembly 34 to the seat base.
[0030] Still with reference to Fig. 6-8 Each of the opposing lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b also includes a drive shaft 44 extending along a body 192 of the base support 36. The drive shaft 44 can define threads that engage with a guide nut 46. The threads defined by the drive shaft 44 can facilitate the movement of the guide nut 46 along the drive shaft 44 and maintain a position of the guide nut 46 when the rotation of the drive shaft 44 is stopped. Accordingly, the guide nut 46 engages the drive shaft 44 such that a position of the guide nut 46 along the drive shaft 44 is established when the motor 168 is switched on. A first end 194a of the drive shaft 44 can be coupled to the lower end support 42 and a second end 194b of the drive shaft 44 can be coupled to the upper end support 40.Accordingly, the lower end bracket 42 is arranged at the first end 38a of the base bracket 36 and the upper end bracket 40 is arranged at the second end 38b of the base bracket 36.
[0031] The lower end bracket 42 can include a body 196a having a base 196b configured to couple to the first end 38a of the base bracket 36. An upper section of the lower end bracket 42 defines a narrow channel 197 configured to receive the first end 194a of the drive shaft 44. Accordingly, the lower end bracket 42 can be wider near the base 196b compared to the upper section. The narrower profile of the upper section of the lower end bracket 42 allows the lower end bracket 42 to align with the body 192 of the base bracket 36 without extending beyond the body 196a. Consequently, one end of the joint bracket 48 can be positioned above the lower end bracket 43 when the seat base 12 is in the seated position.
[0032] The upper end support 40 can be located at the second end 38b of the base support 36. The upper end support 40 can generally be cylindrical; however, it can be configured to generally have a different shape. A through-hole opening is defined by the upper end support 40 and is configured to receive the second end 194b of the drive shaft 44. Additionally, the upper end support 40 can be located at the second end 38b of the base support 36 or coupled to an anchor support 196. Accordingly, if the upper end support 40 is coupled to the anchor support 196, the second end 194b of the drive shaft 44 is configured to extend along the same plane as the first end 194a such that the drive shaft 44 is positioned parallel to the base support 36 but neither abuts nor engages the body 192 of the base support 36.Accordingly, the anchor bracket 196 is coupled to the second end 38b of the base bracket 36. Additionally, the anchor bracket 196 includes a body 198, which has a base 200 coupled to the second end 38b of the body 192 of the base bracket 36. Side walls 202a, 202b, which are perpendicular to each other, extend from the base 200 of the anchor bracket 196. The base 200 and the side walls 202a, 202b of the anchor bracket 196 partially define a space 204 in which the upper end bracket 40 is located. The space 204 provides easy access to the upper end bracket 40 and the drive shaft 44 during manufacturing or assembly.
[0033] Additionally, in various examples, a hinged bracket 48 is arranged over the opposing lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b. The hinged bracket 48 includes passages 205a configured to align with corresponding openings 205b defined by the ends of the motor housing 170. Once aligned, fasteners 206 are inserted within the passages 205a and the openings 205b, respectively, to secure the motor housing 170, and consequently the motor 168 and the motor shafts 172a, 172b, to the opposing lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b. Accordingly, the hinged bracket 48 is configured to slide longitudinally along the body 192 of the base bracket 36 when the motor 168 is switched on. For example, the joint bracket 48 includes an opening 208 configured to accommodate one end of the motor shaft 172a.The end of the motor shaft 172a engages with a drive opening 210, which is defined by the guide nut 46. When the motor 168 is switched on, the motor shaft 172a rotates to adjust the position of the guide nut 46.
[0034] Still with reference to Fig. Figures 6-8 show that the joint bracket 48 comprises, in various examples, a first end 212a located near and engaging with the lead nut 46, and a second end 212b located near the underside 28 of the seat shell 24. The second end 212b of the joint bracket 48 defines passages 213 configured to receive the second coupling connector 182b. Therefore, when the seat base 12 is operated between the seated and reclined positions, the engagement of the joint bracket 48 with the second coupling connector 182b assists in adjusting the distance of the seat base 12.As the guide nut 46 moves along the drive shaft 44 from the lower end bracket 42 to the upper end bracket 40 when the lifting assembly 34 moves towards the engaged position, the joint bracket 48, in other words, engages the second coupling link 182b to move longitudinally towards the seat base 12 in order to adjust the distance of the seat base 12.
[0035] Still with reference to Fig. 6-8 The rear section 18 of the seat base 12 can be adjusted similarly to the front section 16 of the seat base 12. In various examples, the first end 158a of the rear cross member 152 can be operably coupled to a bracket of the rotary assembly 162, and the second end 158b of the rear cross member 152 can be operably coupled to a toothed section 214 of the rotary assembly 162. The rotary assembly 162 can be described as a rack and pinion assembly. The rotary assembly 162 can include the toothed section 214 (rack) of a second bracket, which is coupled to the seat base frame 14, and a toothed gear (pinion) that is coupled to an actuator. The toothed section 214 of the second bracket and the toothed gear can form a toothed interface.Actuation of the actuator can cause the toothed wheel to rotate, allowing the toothed section 214 of the second bracket to move from a rest position to an extended position. Accordingly, the rear section 18 of the seat base 12 can adjust independently of the front section 16 in a generally upward or downward direction, while the swivel assembly 162 adjusts from its rest position to the extended position. However, it is considered that the rear cross member 152 may remain stationary or may not include the swivel assembly 162. Accordingly, the front cross member 150 is positioned at a vehicle-forward location, and the rear cross member 152 is positioned at a vehicle-rear location.
[0036] With reference to Fig. 9. During manufacturing, the seat base 12 is prepared for engagement with the seat base frame 14. In particular, the first and second hook tabs 26a, 26b of the seat shell 24 are configured to engage the front cross member 150, allowing the front section 16 of the seat base 12 to rotate about the front cross member 150 in a generally downward direction towards the vehicle floor 15. As the seat shell 24 continues to rotate about the front cross member 150 via the first and second hook tabs 26a, 26b, the arcuate section 32 of the rear support 30 engages with the rear cross member 152 of the seat base frame 14. Specifically, as the seat base 12 is rotated downward into position, the rear engagement channel 110 of the rear support 30 engages the rear cross member 152.Once engaged, the lifting assembly 34 of the seat base frame 14 can adjust the front section 16 of the seat base 12, and the rotating assembly 162 of the seat base frame 14 can adjust the front section 16 or the rear section 18 of the seat base 12 into, out of, or between the seated position and the reclined position.
[0037] With reference to Fig. 10A and Fig. In 10B, the vehicle seat assembly 10 is capable of moving from the seated position towards the reclined position. The reclined position of the vehicle seat assembly 10 is intended for use when the vehicle 11 is in a stationary (i.e., non-moving) state. For example, while the transmission of the vehicle 11 is in a parked position. Accordingly, moving from, to, and between the seated and reclined positions involves adjusting the position of the guide nut 46 along the drive shaft 44 of the lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b such that the guide nut 46 moves away from the lower end bracket 42 towards the upper end bracket 40.Consequently, the displacement of the guide nut 46 along the drive shaft 44 adjusts the position of the joint bracket 48 to assist in adjusting the position of the seat base between the seated and reclined positions. Accordingly, the angle between the lifting assembly 34 and the rail sliding assembly 76 may increase when the vehicle seat assembly 10 moves from the seated to the reclined position. Additionally, the movement of the vehicle seat assembly 10 from the seated to the reclined position may involve rotation of the swivel assembly 162 near the rear cross member 152 toward the rail sliding assembly 76. Therefore, the angle between the swivel assembly 162 and the rail sliding assembly 76 may decrease when the vehicle seat assembly 10 moves from the seated to the reclined position.
[0038] Still with reference to Fig. 10A and Fig. 10B as well Fig. 11A and Fig. During operation, motor 168 is switched on when the vehicle seat assembly 10 is adjusted from the seated position to the reclined position. Switching on motor 168 initiates a rotation of motor shafts 172a, 172b. For example, motor shafts 172a, 172b rotate clockwise to adjust the lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b in the upward direction relative to the vehicle floor 15. As the motor shafts 172a, 172b rotate, the guide nut 46 is configured to thread along the drive shaft 44 from the lower end bracket 42 to the upper end bracket 40. Accordingly, motor 168 and motor shafts 172a, 172b are adjusted in an upward direction perpendicular to and together with the guide nut 46.As the guide nut 46 moves along the drive shaft 44, the joint bracket 48 consequently moves along the body 192 of the base bracket 36 and engages with the second coupling piece 182b to begin adjusting the seat base 12 upwards. As the guide nut 46 reaches the upper end bracket 40, the joint bracket 48 continues to adjust the seat base 12 upwards via the second coupling piece 182b.
[0039] When the vehicle seat assembly 10 is adjusted from the reclined position to the seated position, the motor 168 is switched on. Switching on the motor 168 initiates a rotation of the motor shafts 172a, 172b. Accordingly, the motor shafts 172a, 172b rotate counterclockwise to adjust the lifting mechanisms 174a, 174b in the downward direction relative to the vehicle floor 15. As the motor shafts 172a, 172b rotate, the guide nut 46 is configured to thread along the drive shaft 44 from the upper end bracket 40 to the lower end bracket 42. Thus, the motor 168 and the motor shafts 172a, 172b are adjusted downwards perpendicular to and, together with the guide nut 46, relative to the vehicle floor 15.As the guide nut 46 moves along the drive shaft 44, the joint bracket 48 consequently moves along the body 192 of the base bracket 36 and engages with the second coupling piece 182b to begin adjusting the seat base 12 downwards. As the guide nut 46 reaches the lower end bracket 42, the joint bracket 48 continues to adjust the seat base 12 downwards via the second coupling piece 182b.
[0040] Still with reference to Fig. In the reclined position, an angular relationship between the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 80 can be set. A first distance between the front section 16 of the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 15 can increase when the vehicle seat assembly 10 moves from the seated position to the reclined position. Correspondingly, a second distance between the rear section 18 of the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 15 can decrease when the vehicle seat assembly 10 moves from the seated position to the reclined position. In various examples, each component positioned between the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 15 can be adjusted with respect to its angular relationship relative to the vehicle floor 15 when the vehicle seat assembly 10 moves into the reclined position.
[0041] When the vehicle seat assembly 10 transitions from the seated position to the reclined position, the first distance between the underside 28 of the front section 16 of the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 80 can increase. In various examples, the transition of the vehicle seat assembly 10 from the seated position to the reclined position can incrementally increase the first distance between the underside of the front section of the seat base and the vehicle floor 80 such that the seat base 12 is positioned at an angle relative to the vehicle floor 80. In other words, the first distance is the maximum distance by which the front section 16 of the seat base 12 can be adjusted. Put another way, the first distance can position the seat base 12 at an angle between approximately 19° and approximately 22° relative to the vehicle floor 80.However, before the seat base 12 reaches the first distance, the front section of the seat base 12 can be incrementally positioned between an angle of approximately 1° and approximately 18° relative to the vehicle floor 80. Accordingly, the seat base 12 is raised in a ratio of 2.5:1 to 3:1 when the first distance between the underside 28 of the seat shell 24 near the front section 16 of the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 15 is reached. In other words, the seat base 12 can be in a maximally reclined position when it is positioned at the first distance. Consequently, when the seat base 12 is adjusted from and / or between the first distance, the backrest 20 can rotate in the rearward direction to the second distance between the lower section 54 of the backrest 20 and the vehicle floor 80.Accordingly, when the seat assembly 10 is in the seated position, the angle between the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 15 can generally be zero.
[0042] Additionally, the transition of the vehicle seat assembly 10 from the seated position to the reclined position can involve rotating the backrest 20 in the rearward direction from the seated position such that an angle between approximately 30° and approximately 54° can be achieved between the backrest 20 and the vehicle floor 15. Accordingly, the transition of the vehicle seat assembly 10 from the seated position to the reclined position can involve reducing the second distance between the rear section 18 of the seat base 12 and the vehicle floor 80. When the vehicle seat assembly 10 is in the reclined position via the lifting assembly 34, a neutral positioning capability can be achieved. The neutral position of the vehicle seat assembly 10 can simulate a posture in which the gravitational load on the body is minimized, thereby further reducing stress on the spine and promoting optimal weight distribution. To achieve this, the lifting assembly 34 can be adjusted with additional pivot points and degrees of freedom, allowing adjustment of the angles of the seat base 12 and the backrest 20.
[0043] With reference to Fig.The vehicle seat assembly 10 can include a controller 220, which has a processor 222, such as a microprocessor, a memory 224, and other digital and / or analog control circuits. Instructions or routines 226 are stored in the memory 224 and can be executed by the processor 222. The controller 220 communicates with a user interface, which may include a display, such as a touchscreen with input and output, or another selectable feature 230 (e.g., buttons, switches, knobs, etc.). The passenger or user can enter a selection into the user interface regarding the positioning of the vehicle seat assembly 10 between the seated position and the reclined position. The input is communicated to the controller 220, which can then switch on the motor 168.
[0044] The control unit 220 can include routine 226 for managing the transition between the seated and reclined positions of the vehicle seat assembly 10. When the passenger interacts with the selectable features 230, the control unit 220 can activate the lifting assembly 34, which is positioned near the underside 28 of the seat shell 24. The control unit 220 can then coordinate the movement of the opposing linkage mechanisms 174a, 174b by the motor 168, which involves the rotation of the guide nut 46 along the drive shaft 44. Simultaneously, the control unit 220 can adjust the angle of the backrest 20, thereby rotating the backrest 20 in a rearward direction.
[0045] The use of the present device and system can provide numerous advantages. For example, vehicle seat assemblies are typically designed to meet a number of specifications dictated by their use within the passenger compartment of the vehicle 11. These specifications include, among other things, spatial considerations within the passenger compartment, the incorporation of user-desired features, and the consideration of the user experience for a variety of users within the passenger compartment (e.g., legroom). The vehicle seat assembly 10 of the present disclosure is operable in the reclined position of the vehicle seat assembly 10, which can reduce the number and / or intensity of pressure points for a user seated on the vehicle seat assembly 10, while providing a more ergonomically comfortable arrangement than in a conventional reclined position where the backrest 20 can be moved in isolation relative to the seat and the vehicle floor 80. The reclined position of the vehicle seat assembly 10 of the present disclosure can position the backrest 20 in a reclined position relative to the vehicle floor 80 and / or the seat. In addition, the reclined position of the vehicle seat assembly 10 of the present disclosure can position the front section 16 of the seat base 12 in a reclined position relative to the vehicle floor 80 compared to the seated position.
