Abstract
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a connecting device for a piece of seating furniture and to a piece of seating furniture and a backrest with such a connecting device.
[0002] Seating furniture is furniture designed for people to sit in, such as armchairs and sofas. However, they are often heavy and cumbersome to carry, making assembly and transport difficult. This is especially true for armchairs and sofas.
[0003] US 2018 / 045234 A1 discloses a device for connecting furniture elements. The device consists of a first and a second part. Both parts are designed to be connected to a furniture element. The first part has two parallel axes, and the second part has holders for these axes. The second part can be arranged on the first axis and rotated about it to engage the second axis in its holder on the second part and to fix the parts against each other.
[0004] EP 2 796 074 B1 relates to the backrest of a piece of seating furniture. It provides a connecting device in which the backrest is connected to the seating furniture at two points. A first connection enables the backrest to be positioned and pivoted. A second connection is a locking connection, in which pivoting the backrest engages a snap mechanism and fixes the backrest in place.
[0005] The invention is based on the object of providing a piece of seating furniture and components of a piece of seating furniture by means of which the handling and transport of seating furniture can be facilitated.
[0006] This object is achieved by a connecting device having the features of claim 1, a piece of seating furniture having the features of claim 12, and a backrest having the features of claim 13. Embodiments of the invention are specified in the appended claims.
[0007] According to a first aspect, the invention provides a connecting device for a piece of seating furniture, comprising a first part and a second part. The first part is intended and configured to be connected to a backrest of a piece of seating furniture. The second part is intended and configured to be connected to a body of the seating furniture. The connecting device has a detachable connection between the first part and the second part.
[0008] The detachable connection comprises a locking mechanism and a pivoting mechanism. The locking mechanism provides a positive connection between the first part and the second part. In the pivoting mechanism, the first part and the second part are pivotally connected to one another by a pivot axis, wherein the first part can only be detached from the second part once it has been pivoted into a pivoting position (i.e., the first part can only be detached from the second part once the pivoting position has been reached). The detachable connection is provided and designed such that the first part is only pivotable after the locking mechanism has been unlocked and can be pivoted into the pivoting position in order to be detached from the second part.
[0009] The connecting device allows the backrest to be connected to the body and then detached again. This detachability allows the backrest to be easily removed from the rest of the seating furniture for transport. Thanks to the solution according to the invention, a piece of seating furniture such as a sofa or couch does not need to be transported as a whole, but can be separated into individual components (one or more backrests and the body), which can then be transported individually. This significantly simplifies the transport of a piece of seating furniture.
[0010] The connecting device can assume various states. For example, it can be locked or unlocked by the locking mechanism, and pivoted or unswiveled by the pivoting mechanism. The pivoting into the pivot position is particularly relevant, as only from this position can the parts be separated from each other.
[0011] The connecting device provides an easy-to-use yet secure connection between the backrest and the rest of the seating. The positive locking mechanism ensures that the parts cannot come loose. Furthermore, the combination with a pivoting mechanism further improves safety. If, for example, the locking device in a seat is accidentally released and a person leans against the backrest, the backrest remains connected to the rest of the seating and will not fall off unless the backrest is also moved into the pivoting position.
[0012] When installed in a piece of seating, the locking mechanism must first be released to release the connection between the backrest and the rest of the seating. The backrest can then be tilted together with the first part into the pivoting position, where the backrest can then be removed from the seating body. Typically, the connecting device is designed so that the backrest must be pivoted toward a seat surface of the seating to be removed.
[0013] According to the invention, the connecting device comprises a base. The base is pivotable. The base comprises an upper end, at which the base is connected to the second part, and a lower end, via which a connection to the body is provided. When the first and second parts are connected to each other, the first and second parts can be pivoted together around the lower end of the base in a pivotable base.
[0014] The second part can be pivoted from a first position into a second position via the pivoting foot, with the second position being higher in a vertical direction than the first position. This can be ensured, for example, by the foot being arranged at an angle in the first variant and upright in the vertical direction in the second position. In this way, the backrest can be raised easily when installed in a piece of seating. This, in turn, can make it easier for a user to reach and operate the lock when installed. In addition, the pivoting movement of the backrest can be made easier because, for example, upholstery is not in the way. When installed in a piece of seating, the first position can be the position in which a backrest is normally arranged when a user is sitting in the seat.
[0015] In one embodiment of the invention, the rest is a backrest. Backrests are often particularly heavy components of a piece of seating furniture, making it particularly helpful to remove and transport them separately.
[0016] In a further embodiment, one of the parts has projections and the other part has corresponding openings. The projections are provided and designed to protrude into the openings until pivoting into the pivot position and thus to block mutual displacement of the parts in a radial direction with respect to the pivot axis. In this way, engagement of the parts with one another is provided, which prevents mutual displacement in the non-pivoted state. For functionality, it is irrelevant on which of the two parts the openings or projections are arranged. Instead of projections, corresponding attachments, for example pins, can be firmly connected to one part and likewise designed to protrude into the corresponding openings of the other part.
[0017] The swivel position can be achieved, for example, by swiveling the parts by an angle of 10°, 15°, 20°, 30° or 45°.
[0018] In a further variant of the invention, one of the parts has a radial receptacle for receiving the pivot axis. The radial receptacle is provided and designed so that the part can be removed from the pivot axis in the radial direction. For example, it can be provided that the second part is firmly connected to the pivot axis and the first part has the radial receptacles. In this case, the first part can be pushed into the pivot axis with the radial receptacles for connection and can be removed from there again. Alternatively, it can be provided that the first part is firmly connected to the pivot axis and the first part, together with the pivot axis, can be detached from the second part. In this case, the second part has the radial exceptions.
[0019] In particular, a combination with the above-described variant of the invention, in which projections and corresponding openings are provided, can be advantageous. The projections and openings can be designed in such a way that, in the non-pivoted state, they prevent mutual displacement of the parts in a direction radial to the pivot axis. At the same time, however, the parts can only be released if one of the parts is pushed radially out of the pivot axis. The sliding movement required to release the parts is thus prevented in the non-pivoted state by the engagement of the projections with the corresponding openings.
[0020] In a further embodiment of the invention, one of the two parts comprises a slider, which is provided and designed to engage with the other part in the locked state. To unlock the locking mechanism, the slider can be removed from the engagement. The slider can be arranged so that it is easy to operate, for example, by protruding from the connecting device, so that it is easily accessible to a user even when installed in a piece of seating furniture.
[0021] It can be provided that the other part comprises a hook which is intended and arranged so that when the slider is closed it hooks into the hook.
[0022] In one embodiment of the invention, the locking mechanism comprises a latching mechanism. The latching mechanism can ensure that the positive connection between the first part and the second part occurs automatically when both parts are moved into one another. When installed in a piece of seating, it can be provided that the backrest is pushed against the body, and the latching mechanism creates the positive connection for locking. The user can hear the latching, so that the user knows that a secure connection is now established between the backrest and the rest of the seating.
[0023] If the connecting device comprises a hook and a slider, it can be provided that the hook engages with the slider when closing. For this purpose, the hook can be designed such that when the first part is moved towards the second part, the hook initially pushes the slider away before the hook is pushed past the slider and the slider engages with the hook. In this engaged position, the hook and the slider prevent the first and second parts from becoming detached from one another and form a positive connection. However, other embodiments are also possible in alternative embodiments. For example, a hook can be omitted and provision can be made for the slider to engage directly in an opening in the other part.
[0024] For locking, the locking mechanism can have a spring that provides a restoring force for the slider and is designed and configured to move the slider into a locking position in which the slider engages with the other part. It is not absolutely necessary for an actual mechanical spring to be connected to the slider; rather, the lever can also be slightly flexible and have a restoring force within it that pushes the slider into the locking position. Alternatively, the hook can also have a restoring force for the locking mechanism instead of the lever.
[0025] In one variant of the invention, the first and second parts are each made of sheet metal. Alternatively, the parts can also be made of other materials, such as sturdy plastic.
[0026] It can be provided that the first part rests on the second part in the non-pivoted state. For support, at least one bent side surface can be provided on one of the two parts, on which the first part is supported.
[0027] It can be provided that both parts have bent side surfaces and the bent side surfaces are arranged in such a way that, in the non-pivoted state, mutual displacement of the parts in an axial direction with respect to the pivot axis is blocked.
[0028] The base can be designed and configured such that, when installed in a piece of seating, the second position is further away from the seat surface than the first position. With a backrest, the second position would therefore be offset rearward in the direction of the seat. This also ensures that the connecting device can be easily operated from the rear of the seating.
[0029] The pivoting base can be designed to move the second part parallel when pivoting from the first position to the second position, so that the spatial orientation of the second part remains unchanged during pivoting. For this purpose, the base can, for example, have two or more parallel struts, each of which is rotatably mounted at the lower and upper ends of the base.
[0030] Please note that connecting the second part of the connecting device to a fixed or pivoting base is merely a design variant. Alternatively, the second part can be connected directly to the body, for example, to a frame integrated into the body (e.g., screwed).
[0031] A further aspect of the invention relates to a piece of seating furniture which has a body, at least one backrest, and a connecting device according to the invention for a detachable connection between the body and the backrest.
[0032] A further aspect of the invention relates to a backrest that is provided and designed for a piece of seating furniture and that has a connecting device according to the invention for connecting to a body of the seating furniture. The backrest can, in particular, be a backrest.
[0033] The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the figures of the drawing using an exemplary embodiment. They show: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a first part of a connecting device; Figure 2 shows the first part of the Figure 1 in an inverted perspective view, in which a hook for locking is visible; Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a second part for a connecting device; Figure 4 shows an axis that can be fastened in the first part so that the second part can pivot about the first part; Figure 5 shows a pin that can be fastened in the second part to protrude into openings in the first part and prevent displacement between the first and second parts; Figure 6 shows a connecting device with the first and second parts according to the Figures 1-3for connecting a body and a backrest for a piece of seating furniture, wherein the first and the second part are pivotable relative to each other; Figure 7 shows the connecting device of the Figure 6 , wherein the first and the second part are pivoted relative to each other; Figure 8 the connecting device of the Figure 6 in another perspective view; Figures 9-10 a connecting device according to the Figures 6-8 arranged on a pivoting base which can be fastened to the body of a piece of seating furniture; and Figures 11-14 show a piece of seating furniture with a connecting device according to the Figures 6-8 for connecting a backrest to the body of a seating furniture, whereby different positions of the backrest are shown when it is attached to the body by means of the connecting device.
[0034] The Figures 1 and 2show a perspective view of a first part 3 of a connecting device according to the invention. The connecting device can be used in a seating furniture to detachably connect a backrest to a body. The connecting device as a whole is shown in FIG. Figures 6-10 and the installation of the connecting device in a seating furniture based on the Figures 11-14 described in more detail.
[0035] The first part 3 is intended to be attached to a backrest (not shown). In the illustrated embodiment, it is made of sheet metal. In a central area, a hook 8 extends vertically from the sheet metal. The hook 8 serves to engage with a second part 4, as can be seen from the Figure 6explained. The hook 8 is cut or punched out of the bleaching part and then bent over. It has a slanted front surface 81 and an undercut 82 at the tip. The hook 8 forms a locking mechanism with a slider (not shown) attached to the second part. The interaction of the hook 8 and the slider achieves a positive fit, firmly connecting the first part 3 and the second part.
[0036] The sheet metal includes holes 31 that allow corresponding projections of the second part or elements attached to the second part to protrude into the holes 31. In the present embodiment, the holes 31 are bores, but in principle, any form of recess is possible.
[0037] At the lateral ends of the first part 3, there is a first bent side surface 35 and a second bent side surface 32, each bent by 90°. The two side surfaces 32, 35 are separated from each other by a slot and extend in the same direction. For the first side surface 35, the sheet metal is bent further inward, so that the side surfaces are not aligned. The first side surface 35 also has a radial receptacle 33. The radial receptacle 33 is a round recess, which serves to engage the first part 3 with the receptacle 33 in a Figure 4 The first part 3 is pivoted about an axis shown in FIG. 1. This pivoting between the first part 3 and the second part (not shown) forms a pivoting mechanism.
[0038] The Figure 3shows the second part 4 of the connecting device. The second part 4 is also a sheet metal part. In the middle, the second part 4 has a bend 45, which is formed by a strip in the sheet metal being partially cut free and bent upwards. A slider (not shown) can be arranged in the bend 45. Furthermore, the second part 4 has a fastening opening 44, in which a Figure 5 shown pin 6 can be attached.
[0039] The sheet metal is bent laterally to form a side surface 42 perpendicular to the remaining sheet metal. Two opposite holes 43 are inserted into the side surfaces 42. The axis of Figure 4 be attached, around which the first part can then be pivoted, see Figure 8 .
[0040] The Figure 4represents the axis 5. The axis 5 has an end 51 with a comparatively thin diameter and can thus be fastened in the bore 43 provided for this purpose in the second part 4. In a comparatively wider area 52, the radial receptacle 33 can be rotatably engaged with the axis 5.
[0041] The radial receptacle 33 of part 3, the bore 43 of part 4 and the axis 5 represent a pivoting mechanism.
[0042] The Figure 5 shows a pin 6, which serves to prevent the first and second parts from shifting relative to each other. The pin 6 can be anchored at a lower, comparatively thin end 61 in the second part 4. The upper area 62 of the pin corresponds in diameter to the holes 31 of the first part 3, into which the pin 6 can protrude when the parts are not pivoted, i.e., when they rest against each other.
[0043] The Figures 6 to 8show the individual parts explained in the previous figures assembled to form a connecting device.
[0044] The Figures 6 to 8 represent the connecting device 1, in which the first part 3 and the second part 4 rest against one another. A slider 7 is fastened in the second part and extends through the arch 45. The slider 7 is designed as a type of elongated pin and comprises a gripping surface at one end by which it can be operated by a user. The slider 7 and the hook 8 engage with one another in such a way that the slider 7 is blocked in the undercut 82 by the hook 8. Accordingly, a positive connection is formed by the slider 7 and the hook 8, so that the locking mechanism formed by the slider 7 and the hook 8 is locked.
[0045] The slider 7 is designed to be flexible so that it can be moved manually. At the same time, it has a spring force that always causes the slider 7 to move toward the undercut 82 of the hook 8 when the parts are in contact with one another. In other embodiments not shown, a separate spring with its own restoring force can be provided for this purpose, which acts on the slider 7, or it can be provided that, instead of the slider 7, the hook 8 is flexible and has its own spring force.
[0046] In the Figures 6 to 8 In the second part, each of the Figure 4 shown axes 5 are fastened in the corresponding holes 43 on the side surfaces 42 and provide a rotatable connection or a pivot axis between the first part 3 and the second part 4. Furthermore, two of the Figure 5corresponding pins 6 are inserted. In the illustrated non-pivoted state of the connecting device 1, the pins protrude through the holes 31. This prevents the first part 3 and the second part 4 from shifting against each other.
[0047] Additional stability is provided by the respective side surfaces 32, 42, which overlap when not pivoted. The side surfaces can absorb forces, particularly in the axial direction of the pivot axis.
[0048] The Figure 7shows the connecting device 1 in a pivoted position. The locking mechanism is unlocked, so that the hook 8 and the slider 7 are not engaged with each other. The first part 3 and the second part 4 are pivoted relative to each other and are only connected to each other via the axes 5. The pivoted position is characterized in that the pins 6 attached to the second part 4 no longer protrude into the corresponding holes 31 of the first part 3. In this example, the respective side surfaces 32, 42 also no longer overlap. As can be seen from the Figure 10 As described, the first part 3 can be removed from the second part 4 in the pivoting position.
[0049] The locking mechanism also includes a snap-in mechanism, with which the slider 7 automatically snaps into the hook 8. The hook 8 has a tip with an inclined surface 81. When the hook 8 is pushed towards the slider 7, the inclined surface 81 pushes the slider 7 aside against the spring force of the slider 7 until the inclined surface 81 ends and the slider 7 snaps into the undercut 82 due to the spring force. In this locked position, a user must first push the slider 7 out of the undercut 82 (into the Figures 6 and 9 to the right) and then lift the first part 3 with the hook 8. This means that the swivel mechanism can only be operated once the lock has been released.
[0050] In the illustrated embodiment, the slider 7 for actuating the locking mechanism is moved laterally in order to release or establish engagement with the hook 8. In some embodiments, it can be provided that the slider 7 is rotatably fastened at its end lying in the device (not shown). In other embodiments, the slider is firmly clamped at its end lying in the device and can only be bent laterally to release the hook, wherein it returns to its original position after being bent to release the hook. In further embodiments, it can be provided that the slider 7 is not firmly fastened in the locking mechanism and can be pulled out of the locking mechanism to release the hook 8.
[0051] The Figure 9 shows the connecting device 1 from the Figures 6-8, wherein the connecting device additionally comprises a movable foot 9 with two parallel struts 93. The foot 9 has a lower end 91. The lower end 91 is formed by angles via which the connecting device can be connected to a body of a piece of seating furniture. Likewise, angles are arranged at an upper end 92 which connect the foot 9 to the second part 4. The struts 93 are rotatably mounted at both the lower end 91 and the upper end 92, so that the second part 3 is always moved parallel to the orientation of the lower end 91 when pivoted about the lower end 91. This means that when pivoted about the lower end 91, the second part 4 always maintains the same spatial orientation in the room. In the case that the connecting device 1 is installed in a piece of seating furniture, this means that the backrest connected to the first part can be moved parallel.
[0052] The others in the Figure 9 The elements shown correspond to the Figure 8 The locking mechanism is thus unlocked, so that the hook 8 and the slider 7 are not engaged. Furthermore, the connecting device is in the pivot position in which the pins 6 do not protrude into the corresponding holes 31. In this embodiment, the two side surfaces 32, 42 still partially overlap.
[0053] The Figure 10 corresponds to the Figure 9 , wherein a rear view of the connecting device is shown and the first part 3 has been detached from the second part 4. The radial receptacles 33 of the first side surfaces 35 of the first part 3 have been removed from the axis 5.
[0054] The Figures 11 to 14show a piece of seating furniture 100 in the form of a sofa with two backrests 101, wherein one backrest 101 is connected to a body 102 of the seating furniture 100 via the connecting device 1. The body 102 is considered to be the seat part (not shown separately) and the lower part of the seating furniture. The other backrest can also be connected to the body 102 via a connecting device 1, even if this is not shown in the figures.
[0055] The connecting device 1 is connected to the backrest 101 at a lower end. According to the illustrations of the Figures 9 and 10 The connecting device 1 has a movable foot 9, which is attached to a base part of the body 102. The movable foot 9 allows the backrest 101 to be pivoted relative to the body 102 in order to bring it into a position in which the backrest can be removed from the body 102 or attached to it.
[0056] The Figure 11 shows the fully assembled state in which the seating furniture 100 is usable by a user and the user can sit on it. The connecting device 1 is locked and not pivoted, so that the backrest 101 cannot be removed from the body 102. The backrest 101 rests on corresponding elements of the body 102. The foot 9 is in a first position in which the upper end 92 of the foot 9 is slightly inclined forward toward a seat surface (not shown) of the seating furniture.
[0057] The Figures 12-14 represent various steps for removing or, in reverse order, for attaching the backrest 101 to the body 102 by means of the connecting device of the Figures 6-8 represents.
[0058] In the Figure 12In the illustrated state, the backrest 102 is pushed backward together with the connecting device 1, i.e., away from the seat surface (not shown) of the seating furniture 100. In doing so, the upper end 92 of the foot 9 with the parts 3, 4 is moved into a second position in which the foot 9 is upright. Accordingly, the second position is higher in the vertical direction than the first. In the second position, the backrest 101 no longer rests on the body 102.
[0059] The Figure 13 shows a state in which the locking mechanism was unlocked by actuating the slider 7 and the pivoting mechanism was actuated such that the first part 3 was brought into the pivoting position. Thus, after the locking mechanism was unlocked, the backrest 101 was still tilted forward together with the first part 3.
[0060] As in the Figure 14As shown, the backrest 101 can now be detached from the body 102. The connection between the first part 3 and the second part 4 is now severed. The backrest 101 is attached to the body 102 in the opposite direction.
[0061] The connecting device 1 according to the invention allows a separately designed backrest 101 to be attached or removed from the body 102 of a piece of seating furniture in a simple manner.
[0062] Alternatively, but not according to the invention, the connecting device 1 of the Figures 6-8 connected to a non-pivoting foot that is firmly screwed to the body, or is the connecting device of the Figures 6-8 directly connected to the body, for example, a frame of the body. The manner of attaching or removing a separately designed backrest 101 using the connecting device according to the invention remains unchanged.
[0063] The invention is not limited in its implementation to the illustrated embodiments, which are to be understood merely as examples. For example, the same principle of the connecting device can also be applied to another backrest, such as a side rest of a piece of seating furniture. In this case, for example, the side rest can be attached to one side of the seating furniture.
