[0001] The invention relates to an adapter for a balcony drain, which balcony drain has a housing with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, wherein a grating is arranged in the inlet opening, wherein provided in the grating is an insertion opening for a standpipe for coupling to a balcony drain of a higher-lying balcony.
[0002] GB 684514A shows a balcony drain which has a housing with an inlet opening and an outlet opening. This housing is cast into the concrete slab of the balcony, so that the inlet opening is arranged on the upper side of the concrete slab and the outlet opening debouches on the underside.
[0003] Arranged in the inlet opening is a grating with an insertion opening. In GB 684514A this grating is horseshoeshaped, but an annular grating is also frequently used.
[0004] A standpipe can then be inserted with one end into the insertion opening and be connected with the other end to the outlet opening of a balcony drain of a balcony lying thereabove.

[0009] Replacing a balcony drain with grating, as known from GB 684514A, with a balcony drain with vertical inflow openings, as known from DE 3436828, will not be simple. Although the problem of blocked gratings can be reduced or even prevented with the replacement, it does mean that a part of the concrete must be broken away to enable removal of the old balcony drain. The new balcony drain must then be placed in the broken-away part and be finished with concrete or cement. The balcony drain is usually arranged in a recessed part of the balcony in order to improve drainage, although this recess will impede replacement of the balcony drain further.
[0010] It is now an object of the invention to reduce or even obviate the above stated drawbacks.
[0011] This object is achieved according to the invention with an adapter for a balcony drain, which adapter comprises: a tubular housing having at a first end a connecting piece for connection to a standpipe and wherein the cross-section of the other end corresponds with the insertion opening of a balcony drain, such that the other end of the tubular housing can be inserted into the insertion opening, and wherein inflow openings are provided in the wall of the tubular housing; a funnel arranged in the tubular part, wherein the funnel-like part lies with the upper edge against the inner wall of the tubular housing between the first end and the inflow openings and wherein the outflow of the neck of the funnel extends beyond the inflow openings in the wall of the tubular housing.
[0012] With the adapter according to the invention an existing balcony drain with grating need not be removed. Only the standpipe is removed, and the adapter can then be inserted with the other end of the tubular housing into the insertion opening of the balcony drain. A slightly shortened standpipe can then in turn be inserted into the connecting piece of the adapter.
[0013] The existing balcony drain with grating is thus also provided with inflow openings in a vertical plane in simple manner by means of the adapter according to the invention, this reducing the chances of blockage of the drain considerably. The inflow openings can have any desired form and preferably extend over a relatively great height, so that water can still be discharged even when dirt lies against the inflow openings.
[0014] The adapter is also suitable for similar drains, such as for apartment building galleries or drain stacks, wherein a standpipe mutually connects drains lying one above the other.

Claims
1. Adapter for a balcony drain, which balcony drain has a housing with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, wherein a grating is arranged in the inlet opening, wherein provided in the grating is an insertion opening for a standpipe for coupling to a balcony drain of a higher-lying balcony, wherein the adapter comprises: - a tubular housing having at a first end a connecting piece for connection to a standpipe and wherein the cross-section of the other end corresponds with the insertion opening of a balcony drain, such that the other end of the tubular housing can be inserted into the insertion opening, and wherein inflow openings are provided in the wall of the tubular housing; - a funnel arranged in the tubular part, wherein the funnel-like part lies with the upper edge against the inner wall of the tubular housing between the first end and the inflow openings and wherein the outflow of the neck of the funnel extends beyond the inflow openings in the wall of the tubular housing.
2. Adapter according to claim 1, wherein a peripheral flange is arranged on the outer side of the tubular housing between the inflow openings and the other end of the tubular housing.
3. Adapter according to claim 2, wherein the peripheral flange lies against the inflow openings.
4. Adapter according to any one of the foregoing claims, wherein the inflow openings are distributed uniformly over the periphery of the tubular housing.
5. Adapter according to any one of the foregoing claims, wherein the connecting piece is an adhesive sleeve.
6. Adapter according to any one of the foregoing claims, wherein the funnel is formed by a pipe with a radially outward protruding flange at one end.

Combination of an adapter according to any one of the foregoing claims and a balcony drain, which balcony drain comprises a housing with an inlet opening and an outlet opening, wherein a grating is arranged in the inlet opening, wherein provided in the grating is an insertion opening for a standpipe for coupling to a balcony drain of a higher-lying balcony, wherein the adapter is placed with the other end of the tubular housing into the insertion opening.
8. Combination according to claim 7, wherein the grating is annular and the insertion opening is formed by the central opening of the annular form.
9. Combination according to claim 7 or 8, wherein the insertion opening and outlet opening of the balcony drain are arranged coaxially.
