Abstract

A cylinder is shaped and hollowed from a block of stone, traditionally marble or granite, 25 to 30 mm thick, with a diameter and height to be determined according to the dimensions of the urn and the overall aesthetic of the monument. Standard sizes are 250 mm in diameter and 500 mm in height. The cylinder is sealed at its base to the surface of the existing grave, i.e., the headstone or side plaques. If there is a stele, the cylinder(s) are attached to it laterally to create unity and harmony within the monument. After the urn is placed inside, the cylinder is closed at its upper end with a lid sealed around its edges to ensure the urn is watertight and protected within its housing.
