Description

Title of the invention: Spray gun with angular indexing, ring, assembly and associated method

[0001] The present invention relates to a coating product spray gun comprising a body, a spray head and a spray nozzle, the spray head delimiting a passage, the spray nozzle being arranged in the passage of the spray head.

[0002] The invention further relates to a ring, an assembly and an associated method.

[0003] The angular position of the spray head and the spray nozzle is adjustable relative to the body of the gun.

[0004] This is particularly important for the quality of the coating and to limit the loss of coating product outside of a surface to be coated.

[0005] Once the adjustment of said angular position has been made, it may be advantageous to maintain said angular position, in particular to avoid having to redo the adjustment.

[0006] One solution would then be to fix the spray head relative to the body.

[0007] However, when the gun, and in particular the head and nozzle, is being maintained, the head is removed from the body. Therefore, the angular position is not maintained, and a new adjustment is necessary.

[0008] The aim of the invention is then to provide a spray gun that allows maintaining an angular position between the spray head and the body, including during maintenance.

[0009] To this end, the invention relates to a coating product spray gun comprising a body, a spray head and a spray nozzle, the spray head delimiting a passage, the spray nozzle being arranged in the passage of the spray head, characterized in that the gun comprises a ring, the ring connecting the spray head and the body, the gun comprising an angular holding element for the angular position between the ring and the spray head, the gun comprising a locking element, the locking element being movable between a locking position, in which it locks the angular position of the ring relative to the body, and a release position, in which it allows angular rotation of the ring relative to the body.

[0010] Thus, thanks to the angular retaining element, the angular position between the ring and the spray head is fixed. It is possible to adjust the angular position between the spray head and the body when the locking element is in the position of Release. When the angular position is correct, the locking element is moved into the locked position, thus maintaining the angular position between the ring and the body, and consequently between the spray head and the body. For maintenance, the head can be detached from the ring, with the ring remaining on the body in the angular position maintained by the locking element. The head is then reattached to the ring in the angular position of the retaining element.

[0011] According to other advantageous aspects of the invention, the pistol comprises one or more of the following features, taken individually or in all technically possible combinations:

[0012] - the locking element comprises a rod provided with a shoulder, the rod moving between the locking position and the release position, such that, in the locking position, the shoulder exerts a force pressing the ring against the body in an axial direction;

[0013] - the spray head has a main axis, the rod moving between the blocking position and release position in translation along the axial direction, the axial direction being parallel to the main axis of the spray head;

[0014] - the body has an opening leading to a front face of the body, the ring extending against the front face of the body in the locking position of the locking element, the rod extending partially into the orifice, the body having an opening extending between a lateral face of the body and the orifice, so that the rod is accessible from the lateral face through the opening;

[0015] - the pistol includes a screw, the opening being threaded, the screw being arranged in the opening and being able to be screwed around a screw axis to a rod holding position, in which the screw extends against a recess in the rod, the recess having a chamfer, the chamfer being such that, when the screw is screwed to the rod holding position, the rod is moved to the locking position;

[0016] - the angular position retention element between the ring and the head of spraying also maintains the angular position between the spray head and the spray nozzle; and / or

[0017] - the angular positioning retention element between the ring and the head spraying includes at least one indexing element, the ring having at least one additional cutout of at least one indexing element, the spray head having at least one additional hole of at least one indexing element, the indexing element or each indexing element extending through the respective cutout and the respective hole.

[0018] The invention also relates to a ring adapted to extend between a coating product spray gun body and an assembly comprising a spray head and a spray nozzle, the ring having at least one additional cutout for at least one indexing element, the at least one cutout being arranged so that an indexing element extending through the or a respective cutout is adapted to extend through a hole in the spray head.

[0019] The invention also relates to an assembly comprising a spray head for a coating product spray gun, the assembly further comprising at least one indexing element, the spray head having at least one hole complementary to the at least one indexing element, the spray head defining a rear side opposite the coating product spray, the indexing element or each indexing element extending through the respective hole or hole, protruding from said hole from the rear side and then from the spray head in an axial direction of the spray head.

[0020] The invention also relates to a method for indexing an angular position between a body and a spray head of a gun as described above, comprising the following steps:

[0021] - Supply of the gun as described above, the locking element being in the position of liberation,

[0022] - Positioning of the ring relative to the body in an angular position relative,

[0023] - Displacement of the blocking element into the blocking position, so that The ring, and thus the spray head, are held in the relative angular position with respect to the body.

[0024] The invention will become clearer upon reading the following description, given solely by way of non-limiting example, and made with reference to the drawings in which:

[0025] [Fig. 1] [Fig. 1] is a partial cross-sectional view of a pistol according to an embodiment of the invention,

[0026] [Fig.2] [Fig.2] is a perspective view of the pistol of [Fig.1], without the head of spray,

[0027] [Fig.3] [Fig.3] is a perspective view of the pistol ring of [Fig.1], and

[0028] [Fig.4] [Fig.4] is a perspective view of the head and indexing elements of the pistol of the [Fig.1].

[0029] A coating product spray gun 10 according to an example of the invention is partially shown in [Fig.1].

[0030] The gun 10 includes a body 12, a spray head 14, a spray nozzle 16, and a ring 18.

[0031] The gun 10 further includes an angular retaining element 20.

[0032] The gun 10 further includes a locking element 22.

[0033] The gun 10 further includes here, for example, an outer ring 24.

[0034] The body 12 is adapted to receive an assembly comprising the spray head 14 and the spray nozzle 16, more particularly here comprising the spray head 14, the spray nozzle 16 and the ring 18.

[0035] The body 12 has, more particularly, a passage 26 for the coating product.

[0036] The passage 26 has a downstream outlet, on which is arranged the assembly comprising the spray head 14, the spray nozzle 16 and the ring 18.

[0037] The passage 26 at the exit level extends around a main axis X.

[0038] The body 12 has a front face 28, into which the outlet of the passage 26.

[0039] The body 12 here has an opening 30 leading into the front face 28.

[0040] The orifice 30 extends here parallel to the main axis X.

[0041] The orifice 30 extends here perpendicularly to the front face 28.

[0042] The orifice 30 is, for example, blind.

[0043] The orifice 30 is, for example, cylindrical.

[0044] The body 12 here further has an opening 32 extending between a lateral face 34 of the body 12 and the orifice 30.

[0045] The opening 32 is, for example, tapped.

[0046] The opening 32 extends perpendicularly to the orifice 30.

[0047] The spray head 14 defines a passage, the spray nozzle 16 being arranged in the passage of the spray head

[0048] The spray head 14 defines a rear side 40 opposite the spraying of the coating product.

[0049] The spray head 14 has a main axis around which it extends.

[0050] The main axis of the spray head 14 coincides with the main axis X.

[0051] The spray head 14 has, for example, here at least one hole 33.

[0052] The hole or each hole 33 has a complementary form of an indexing element described below, for example a pin.

[0053] The hole or each hole 33 has, in the example shown, a circular shape.

[0054] The hole or each hole 33 extends parallel to the main axis of the head of spray.

[0055] The spray nozzle 16 is integral with the spray head 14.

[0056] The angular position of the spray nozzle 16 relative to the spray head 14, around the main axis X, is fixed or held fixed, for example as will be described below.

[0057] The spray nozzle 16 further extends here around a main axis coinciding with the main axis X.

[0058] The spray nozzle 16 delimits a passage 36 for spraying coating product.

[0059] The spray nozzle 16 has, for example, a slot-shaped outlet 38, so as to spray the coating product in the form of a flat jet.

[0060] The nozzle 16 is mounted on the spray head 14.

[0061] Here, the spray head 14 and the nozzle 16 are mounted on a seat holder 39, itself mounted on the body 12.

[0062] Mounting the spray head 14 on the body 12 by the seat holder does not allow here an angular locking between the body 12 and the spray head 14.

[0063] The ring 18 is here mounted in the body 12 and held in position by the locking element 22.

[0064] The ring 18 connects, more particularly angularly along the X axis, the spray head 14 and the body 12.

[0065] The ring 18 extends here around the main axis X.

[0066] The ring 18 has an external surface 44 and an internal surface 46, the surface internal 46 facing the principal axis X, external surface 44 being opposite internal surface 46.

[0067] The ring 18 includes a shoulder 42 suitable for being held against the front face 28 of the body by the locking element 22.

[0068] The shoulder 42 is arranged on the external surface 44 of the ring 18.

[0069] The shoulder 42 extends over the entire circumference of the ring 18.

[0070] The ring 18 includes, on one side of the shoulder 42 along the main axis X, a so-called internal portion 48, the internal portion 48 being provided to extend into the passage 26 of the body 12.

[0071] The internal portion 48 extends against an internal wall of the exit of the passage 26.

[0072] When the shoulder 42 extends against the front surface 28, the ring 18 is connected to the passage in a fluidically sealed manner.

[0073] The ring 18 has at least one cutout 50, more particularly extending parallel to the main axis X, here two cutouts.

[0074] The ring 18 has as many cutouts 50 as the head 14 has holes 33.

[0075] The cutout or each cutout 50 has a complementary shape of an indexing element, for example a pin.

[0076] The cutouts 50 are, for example, arranged on the same diameter of the ring 18.

[0077] At least one cut 50 is provided here on a circumferential protuberance 52.

[0078] The protrusion 52 extends in relief from the inner wall 46 of the ring 18.

[0079] The inner wall 46 has a cylindrical shape except for the protrusion 52.

[0080] The protrusion 52 extends at least over a portion of a circumference of the ring 18, more particularly here over an entire circumference of the ring.

[0081] The at least one cut 50 traverses, here completely or partially, the protuberance in a direction parallel to the main axis X.

[0082] The cutout or each cutout 50 has a hollow shape complementary to at least one indexing element, described below, here a shape of arc of a circle.

[0083] The hole(s) 33 and the cutout(s) 50 are arranged, respectively, on the head 14 and on the ring 18, so that, when they are aligned angularly around the main axis X, a respective indexing element, here a pin, passing through a hole 33 cooperates with a corresponding cutout 50.

[0084] Here, each hole 33 is aligned along the direction parallel to the main axis X, called axial direction, with the corresponding cutout 50.

[0085] The circle of the arc has a diameter equal to the circle of the corresponding hole 33.

[0086] The ring 18 here exhibits rotational symmetry about the principal axis X, at with the exception of at least one cut of 50.

[0087] The angular retaining element 20 is an element for maintaining the angular position between the ring and the spray head.

[0088] Here, the angular retaining element 20 comprises at least one, here two, indexing element 54, more particularly here at least one pin.

[0089] At least one pin here is cylindrical.

[0090] Alternatively, at least one indexing element has a different shape from a cylindrical pin.

[0091] The or each indexing element 54 is, for example, here a separate part.

[0092] Alternatively, the indexing element or each element of indexing 54 is, for example, a protrusion of the head 14. The indexing element(s) 54 is, for example, then machined from the head. If necessary, the spray head 14 then does not have, for example, a hole 33.

[0093] Each indexing element 54 extends along the axial direction.

[0094] The indexing element or elements 54 extend through a respective cutout 50 and the corresponding hole.

[0095] The indexing element or each indexing element 54 has a shape and dimensions such that there is no angular play between the head 14 and the ring 18, the indexing element or each indexing element 54 blocking any rotation of the head 14 relative to the ring 18.

[0096] When the indexing element or each indexing element 54 is a separate part from the head 14, the indexing element or each indexing element 54 extends through the respective hole 33 of the spray head 14, protrudes from said hole 33 on the rear side 40, then protrudes along the axial direction of the spray head 14.

[0097] Thus, the angular retaining element 20 maintains the angular position between the ring and the spray head.

[0098] Here, the angular positioning element 20 between the ring and the spray head further maintains the angular position between the spray head 14 and the spray nozzle 16.

[0099] The spray nozzle 16 includes, for example, also at least one cutout 56.

[0100] The spray nozzle 16 has as many cutouts 56 as the head 14 has holes 33.

[0101] The cut or each cut 56 has a complementary shape to the indexing element 54.

[0102] The cutouts 56 are, for example, arranged on the same diameter of the spray nozzle 16.

[0103] The cutout(s) 56 are arranged on the nozzle 16, so that, when they are aligned angularly around the main axis X, a respective indexing element 54 passing through a hole 33 cooperates with a corresponding cutout 56.

[0104] Here, each hole 33 is aligned along the axial direction with the corresponding cutout 56.

[0105] Thus, here, each hole 33 is aligned along the axial direction with a corresponding cutout 50 and cutout 56.

[0106] The indexing element or elements 54 extend through a hole 33, a cutout 56 and a cutout 50.

[0107] The cut 56 is such that there is no angular play between the head 14 and the nozzle 16, the indexing element or each indexing element 54 blocking any rotation of the head 14 relative to the nozzle 16.

[0108] Thus, the angular retaining element 20 maintains the angular position between the ring, the spray head and the spray nozzle.

[0109] Having the angular position maintained between the ring, the spray head and the spray nozzle by a holding system allows in particular a particularly precise angular adjustment.

[0110] Alternatively, the angular positioning element 20 between the ring and the spray head does not maintain the angular position between the spray head 14 and the spray nozzle 16, but only between the ring 18 and the head 14.

[0111] The indexing element or each indexing element 54 extends, then, for example, only through a hole 33 and a cutout 50.

[0112] The angular position between the nozzle and the spray head is, for example, then maintained by a secondary angular holding system, comprising, for example, at least one secondary indexing element, distinct from the at least one indexing element 54.

[0113] Each of the nozzle and spray head then comprises, for example, at least one secondary cut. More particularly, the nozzle comprises as many secondary cuts as the spray head and the number of secondary indexing elements.

[0114] The or each secondary cut has a complementary shape to the secondary indexing element.

[0115] Each secondary cutout of the nozzle is aligned along the axial direction with a secondary cutout of the head.

[0116] The secondary cutouts are, for example, arranged on a diameter of the respective part different from the cutouts 50, 56.

[0117] The secondary indexing element or elements extend through a secondary cutout in the nozzle and a secondary cutout in the head.

[0118] The secondary indexing element or elements allows the angular position of the nozzle relative to the head to be locked.

[0119] Thus, the angular retaining element 20 is suitable for maintaining the angular position between the ring and the spray head, and the secondary retaining element maintains the angular position between the spray head and the spray nozzle.

[0120] This allows in particular to have shorter, solid and stable retaining elements in relation to the head, to carry out indexing between the head and the nozzle before screwing the head on, and possibly to allow dismantling of the seat holder without touching the ring.

[0121] The locking element 22 is movable between a locking position, in which it locks the angular position of the ring 18 relative to the body 12, and a release position, in which it allows angular rotation of the ring 18 relative to the body 12.

[0122] The locking element 22 comprises a rod 58 provided with a shoulder 60.

[0123] The shoulder 60 is arranged in an end portion of the stem 58.

[0124] Here, the rod 58 extends partially into the orifice 30.

[0125] The rod 58 is, for example, accessible from the side face 34 through the opening 32, that is to say that a part of the rod 58 extends opposite the opening 32.

[0126] The end portion, including the shoulder 60, extends outside the orifice 30.

[0127] The rod 58 is adapted to move in translation within the orifice 30, more particularly only in translation along the axial direction.

[0128] Between the locking position and the release position, the rod 58 moves in translation along the axial direction.

[0129] The shoulder 60 extends outward from the stem 58 in the direction of the main axis X, for example in a direction perpendicular to the main axis X.

[0130] The shoulder 60 has a dimension such that it extends in relation to the shoulder 42 along the axial direction.

[0131] The rod 58 is able to move between the locking position and the release position, such that, in the locking position, the shoulder 60 exerts a force pressing the ring 18 against the body 12 in the axial direction, more particularly against the front face 28 of the body 12 in the axial direction.

[0132] In the locking position, the shoulder 60 exerts a particular force pressing the shoulder 42 against the front face 28.

[0133] This prevents any movement, including rotation, between the ring 18 and the body 12.

[0134] In the release position, the rod 58 is translated, so that the shoulder 60 is moved away from the body 12.

[0135] Thus, in the release position, the rod 58 does not press the ring 18 against the body 12, which allows the ring 18 to move relative to the body 12, in particular in rotation around the main axis X.

[0136] The rod 58 advantageously has a recess 62.

[0137] The recess 62 extends opposite the opening 32, when the rod 58 is in the locking position, and also when the rod 58 is in the release position.

[0138] The recess 62 has, for example, here, a chamfer 64.

[0139] The chamfer 64 forms one end of the recess opposite the shoulder 60.

[0140] The chamfer 64 forms a surface at an angle with respect to the axial direction and to the radial direction, i.e. perpendicular to the principal X axis.

[0141] The gun 10 further includes a screw 66.

[0142] The screw 66 is arranged in the opening and is able to be screwed around a screw axis until it reaches a holding position of the rod, in which the screw extends against the recess 62 of the rod, more particularly here against the chamfer 64 of the recess 62.

[0143] In the rod holding position, the rod 58 is held in position, more particularly in the locking position.

[0144] The chamfer 64 is such that, when the screw 66 is screwed to the rod holding position, the rod 58 is moved to the locking position, more particularly the rod 58 is driven in the axial direction towards the body 12, until it comes to rest against the shoulder 42.

[0145] When the screw 66 is not in the rod retaining position, the rod 58 is movable along the axial direction, more particularly between the locking position and the release position.

[0146] The outer ring 24 partially surrounds the spray head 14.

[0147] The outer ring 24 extends along the axial direction between a rear end portion 68 and a front end portion 70.

[0148] The outer ring 24, more particularly the rear end portion 68, is suitable for being screwed to the body 12, more particularly to the lateral surface 34 between the front face 42 and the opening 32.

[0149] The front end portion 70 includes a shoulder 72, the shoulder being intended to extend against a rim 74 of the spray head 14, more particularly against the rim 74 of the front face of the spray head, opposite the rear side 40.

[0150] The outer ring 24 is able to be moved, here by screwing onto the body 12, along the axial direction, between a final position and at least one adjustment position.

[0151] The final position corresponds to the maximum screwing position of the outer ring 24 on the body 12.

[0152] In the final position, the shoulder 72 exerts a force on the spray head 14 in the direction of the body 12.

[0153] The at least one adjustment position here corresponds to any intermediate screwing position of the outer ring on the body, allowing a movement of the head 14 relative to the outer ring 24.

[0154] In a particular embodiment, the gun 10 is provided with a system for locating the angular position of the ring 18 relative to the body 12.

[0155] The marking system includes, for example, an angular marking around the outlet on the front face 28 of the body 12 and at least one marker on the outer face 44 of the ring 18, more particularly at the protrusion 42.

[0156] Alternatively, the marking system includes, for example, an angular marking on the external face 44 of the ring 18, more particularly at the protrusion 42, and at least one mark around the outlet on the front face 28 of the body 12 or on the locking element 22, more particularly the shoulder 60 of the rod.

[0157] The locating system thus makes it possible to locate the angular position of the ring 18 relative to the body 12.

[0158] This makes it possible in particular to reproduce said angular position on another gun or, for example, if all the parts have to be disassembled.

[0159] The invention further relates to a ring adapted to extend between a coating product spray gun body and an assembly comprising a spray head and a spray nozzle, the ring being as described previously.

[0160] The invention further relates to an assembly comprising a spray head for a coating product spray gun and at least one indexing element, the spray head and the indexing element being as described above.

[0161] The invention further relates to a method of indexing an angular position between a body and a spray head of a gun as described above.

[0162] The process comprises the following steps, in this order: - Supply of the pistol 10 as described previously, with the locking element 22 in the release position, - Positioning of the ring 18 relative to the body 12 in a relative angular position, and - Displacement of the locking element 22 into the locking position, so that the ring 18, and thus the spray head 14, are held in the relative angular position with respect to the body 12.

[0163] In the example described, in the supply step, the screw 66 is not screwed to the holding position of the rod 58. Thus, the screw 66 does not press against the recess 62.

[0164] In addition, in the supply stage, the outer ring 24 is, for example, not mounted on the gun 10 or it is in an adjustment position.

[0165] Following the supply step, the ring 18 is rotationally movable relative to the body 12, around the main axis X.

[0166] The ring 18 is rotationally fixed to the head 14, and here to the nozzle 16, so that by adjusting the angular position of the ring 18 relative to the body 12, the angular position of the head 14, and here of the nozzle 16, relative to the body 12 is adjusted.

[0167] In a particular embodiment, the adjustment of the angular position is, for example, carried out using the locating system as described above, for example by aligning at least one reference mark with a value or location of the angular marking.

[0168] After positioning the ring 18 relative to the body 12 in the relative angular position, the locking element 22 is moved into the locking position, so that the relative angular position is maintained.

[0169] More specifically, here, screw 66 is screwed in until the rod is held in position.

[0170] The cooperation of the screw 66 with the chamfer 64 causes a displacement of the rod 58 towards the body 12, and thus into the locking position.

[0171] The method further includes here, after the step of moving the locking element 22 into the locking position, a step of positioning the outer ring 24 in the final position.

[0172] The outer ring 24 is screwed onto the body 12 until it reaches the final position, that is, until the shoulder 72 comes to rest against the spray head.

[0173] If, after indexing the body and spray head of a gun in the angular position, a change of angular position to a second angular position is desired, the method further comprises the following steps, in this order:

[0174] - where applicable, moving the outer ring 24 into the adjustment position or removal of the outer ring,

[0175] - displacement of the locking element 22 into the release position,

[0176] - angular displacement of the ring 18 relative to the body 12 in the second angular position

[0177] - displacement of the locking element 22 into the locking position, and

[0178] - where applicable, positioning of the outer ring 24 in the final position.

[0179] More specifically here, the screw 66 is unscrewed from the opening, so that it no longer presses on the recess 62, and in particular the chamfer 64. The rod 58 is then movable in the release position.

[0180] The movement of the blocking element 22 into the blocking position is, for example, carried out as described previously.

[0181] Thus, the body and the spray head, via the ring, are now held in the second angular position.

[0182] In the event of maintenance of the gun requiring dismantling of the head from the body, the head, and here the nozzle, are dismantled from the rest of the gun 10.

[0183] More specifically here, the outer ring is disassembled, then the head and nozzle are disassembled from the rest of the gun.

[0184] The ring 18 remains permanently fixed and held in position relative to the body 12 by means of the locking element 22.

[0185] At least one indexing element 54 remains, for example, with the head 14, in particular in the corresponding hole 33 or as a protrusion.

[0186] After the maintenance step requiring dismantling the head from the body, the head, and here the nozzle, are reassembled on the body, aligning at least one cut and at least one hole using at least one indexing element.

[0187] If necessary, the outer ring 24 is then reassembled on the body in the final position.

[0188] The angular retaining element therefore maintains the angular position between the ring and the head, and the locking element between the ring and the body.

[0189] Thus, thanks to the invention, the head, and here the nozzle, are raised relative to the ring, and thus to the body, in the same angular position as before.

[0190] The angular position setting was therefore not lost by dismantling the head.
