Methods and apparatus for resuming a connection

Abstract

A user equipment (UE) comprising: a transmitter; a receiver; and at least one processor configured to: while in 5GMM-CONNECTED mode with RRC_inactive indication, verify if a network slice (NS) is supported based on a location of the UE, wherein the NS is associated with data to be transmitted by the UE; and if the NS is supported, request lower layers to transition to RRC_CONNECTED state. The processor may be configured to verify if the NS is supported in a current cell or in a current tracking area (TA). The data may be associated with a protocol data unit (PDU) session, wherein the PDU session is associated with the NS. The PDU session may have suspended user plane resources. The UE may be configured to have two PDU sessions including the PDU session associated with the NS and another PDU session associated with another NS. The NS may be identified by single network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI). The data may be uplink user data. The processor may be further configured to: after transitioning to the RRC_CONNECTED state, transmit the data.
