A material recovery system 2 for recycling mixed household-waste 4, comprising a processing facility 3 to sort the waste into recyclate glass 10, metal 12, plastic 14, and fibre 16 streams. There are bulk stoarge areas for glass 20, metal 22, plastic 24, and fibre 26 bulk streams, a combined heat and power plant 82, and a dryer station 76 to dry a portion of non-recyclable household waste. The processing facility includes at least one of each of a shredder station 124, bag opening station 127, magnet station 139, optical sorter, wind-shifter station 136, ECS (eddy current separator) station 140, disc-screen station 142, disc-screen 2D / 3D separation station 90, glass-breaker station 94, V-screen 2D / 3D separation station 102, and NIR (near infrared) optical sorter station 60.
