Abstract
This invention provides IAPP peptides that inhibit the aggregation of human pancreatic islet amyloid polypeptides and their use in inhibiting amyloid fibril formation. [Solution] We provide a series of IAPP peptides having a specific sequence that inhibit human IAPP aggregation and rescue mammalian cells from hIAPP toxicity. These IAPP variants are potent inhibitors of hIAPP aggregation and can be used as therapeutic agents and probes to understand the underlying toxicity of amyloid proteins.
