Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a user equipment (UE) method and a user equipment (UE). [Background technology]

[0002] The Network Slice Simultaneous Registration Group (NSSRG) concept is introduced by 3GPP SA Working Group 145E meeting through Non-Patent Document 5. The NSSRG concept is introduced in 5GS based on the service requirements from GSMA as described in Non-Patent Document 2.

[0003] According to Non-Patent Document 5, subscription information for a UE may include, for each S-NSSAI, NSSRG information that restricts the S-NSSAIs that can be simultaneously provided to the UE in an Allowed NSSAI.

[0004] If the UE receives NSSRG information along with a Configured NSSAI, the UE includes only S-NSSAIs whose S-NSSAIs share a common NSSRG in the Requested NSSAI, for example, when the UE sends a Registration request message to the AMF.

[0005] Two S-NSSAIs that share at least one NSSRG may be included in the authorized NSSAIs at the same time. In other cases, these S-NSSAIs may not be included in the authorized NSSAIs at the same time. For example, if the first NSSRG includes only the first S-NSSAI and the second NSSRG includes only the second S-NSSAI, these S-NSSAIs may not be included in the authorized NSSAIs at the same time.

[0006] The NSSRG information that defines the association of the S-NSSAI to the NSSRG is provided as additional separate information. When the supporting AMF / NSSF receives the request NSSAI, it evaluates the S-NSSAI of the HPLMN (in the mapping information of the request NSSAI in the registration request message, if the mapping information is applicable) based on any received NSSRG information for the S-NSSAI to determine whether the S-NSSAI can be provided together in the allowed NSSAI. [0021] The NSSRG policy includes information of the NSSRG. The NSSRG policy may be referred to as an NSSRG slice selection policy, NSSRG information, NSSRG, information indicating an NSSRG, or information about an NSSRG. The NSSRG policy may include information indicating an S-NSSAI that can be simultaneously provided to the UE in an allowed NSSAI. For example, the NSSRG policy includes information indicating that an S-NSSAI1 and an S-NSSAI2 can be simultaneously provided to the UE. In this case, the S-NSSAI1 and the S-NSSAI2 are included in the same NSSRG. The S-NSSAI1 may be referred to as a first S-NSSAI, and the S-NSSAI2 may be referred to as a second S-NSSAI. The access type may be referred to as an access. For example, a 3GPP access type may be referred to as a 3GPP access. For example, a non-3GPP access type may be referred to as a non-3GPP access.

[0022] In the following specification, the allowed NSSAI may also be a pending NSSAI. The registration request message may be for an initial registration procedure, a mobility registration procedure, a periodic registration procedure, or an emergency registration procedure.

[0023] All aspects also apply when the UE is registered to an authorized NSSAI for an access type and the S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI. All aspects also apply when the UE is registered to an authorized NSSAI for an access type and the S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI of the same access type does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI of the same access type.

[0024] <First aspect> The first aspect may, for example, solve problem statement 1 as shown below:

[0025] <Problem Statement 1> If the UE registers to 5GS via both 3GPP and non-3GPP accesses, the UE maintains two independent authorized NSSAIs, one for 3GPP access and another for non-3GPP access.

[0026] In a situation where a UE is registered in another access type and has an allowed NSSAI for the other access type, it is not clear which S-NSSAI can be set to the requested NSSAI in a registration request message in one access type.

[0027] The first aspect includes defining a network slice simultaneous registration group for each access type (e.g., 3GPP access and non-3GPP access) for a PLMN and configuring the same in a UE. The UE configures a request NSSAI when registering to the PLMN via the access type according to the NSSRG of the access type. The network enforces the NSSRG policy for the UE according to the access type depending on which access type the UE is registered to 5GS in.

[0028] Detailed steps of the registration procedure using NSSRG policy are given below.

[0029] 0. The UDM stores an NSSRG slice selection policy for each subscribed S-NSSAI for each access type. For example, the UDM stores NSSRG information for each access type. For example, the UDM stores NSSRG information (or NSSRG policy) for 3GPP access and NSSRG information (or NSSRG policy) for non-3GPP access.

[0030] The NSSRG for each access type may be interpreted in at least two ways: -NSSRG defines a network slice simultaneous registration group for an access type, and any S-NSSAI within an allowed NSSAI in another access type may coexist. -When a UE (user equipment) registers to 5GS via another access type, the NSSRG for each access type can be interpreted as defining a network slice simultaneous registration group for an access type taking into account the S-NSSAI in the allowed NSSAI in another access type.

[0031] In one example, an NSSRG may be assigned to each subscribed S-NSSAI for each combination of access type and VPLMN in which the UE roams.

[0032] In one example, an NSSRG may be assigned to each subscribed S-NSSAI per RAT type.

[0033] 1. The UE does not have an NSSRG policy for the access type. The UE initiates a registration procedure to register with the PLMN via the access type. The UE configures an S-NSSAI for the request NSSAI in the registration request message based on the NSSP rules.

[0034] 2. Upon receiving the registration request message, the AMF optionally performs an authentication procedure. After the authentication procedure is completed, the AMF initiates a security mode command procedure.

[0035] 3. The AMF itself registers with the UDM for the UE by sending a Nudm_UECM_Registration Request message. The Nudm_UECM_Registration Request message includes an access type and a RAT type. For example, the Nudm_UECM_Registration Request message includes information indicating 3GPP access as the access type and information indicating 5G (or NR) as the RAT type.

[0036] 4. The AMF sends a Nudm_SDM_GET Request (Nudm_SDM_GET Req) message to the UDM to obtain UE subscription parameters for the UE. For example, the UE subscription parameters for the UE include an access type for the UE and a RAT type for the UE. The UE subscription parameters may be referred to as subscription information.

[0037] 5. The UDM sends a Nudm_SDM_GET Response (Nudm_SDM_GET Rsp) message to the AMF including NSSRG information corresponding to the access type or RAT type based on the subscription information. The Nudm_SDM_GET Response message may include UE subscription parameters for the UE. When the AMF recognizes at least one of the access type and the RAT type based on the information in the Nudm_UECM_Registration request message, the AMF stores the NSSRG information for each access type associated with each S-NSSAI in the UE context.

[0038] In one example, the UDM also sends NSSRG information for another access type, i.e., for an access type other than the current access type. In this case, the Nudm_SDM_GET Response message includes the NSSRG policy along with an access type identifier that identifies the access type, e.g., {(NSSRG policy 1, 3GPP access), (NSSRG policy 2, non-3GPP access)}. In this case, (NSSRG policy 1, 3GPP access) means that NSSRG policy 1 is for 3GPP access, and (NSSRG policy 2, non-3GPP access) means that NSSRG policy 2 is for non-3GPP access.

[0039] 6. The AMF configures an S-NSSAI for the allowed NSSAI based on the received NSSRG policy. If the Requested NSSAI includes an incompatible S-NSSAI, the AMF approves the S-NSSAI that can be simultaneously active and rejects the S-NSSAI that cannot be simultaneously active with the allowed NSSAI. The AMF sends a Registration Accept message including the Configured NSSAI, the allowed NSSAI, and a rejection cause value for each S-NSSAI indicating that the cause of the rejection is incompatibility with the S-NSSAI in the allowed NSSAI. The Registration Accept message also includes an NSSRG policy for the access type of the UE. The Registration Accept message optionally includes an NSSRG policy for another access type of the UE. The Registration Accept message may include an NSSRG policy for the RAT type of the UE.

[0040] For example, if the requested NSSAI includes S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 and the received NSSRG policy includes information indicating that S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 can be provided to the UE simultaneously (i.e., the information indicates that S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 are included in the same NSSRG), the AMF sends an allowed NSSAI including S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 to the UE.

[0041] For example, if the requested NSSAI includes S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 and the received NSSRG policy includes information indicating that S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI3 can be provided to the UE simultaneously (i.e., the information indicates that S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI3 are included in the same NSSRG), the AMF sends to the UE the allowed NSSAIs including S-NSSAI1 and a rejection cause value for S-NSSAI2 that rejects S-NSSAI2.

[0042] If the registration procedure fails for any reason, for example, if no S-NSSAI is configured in the Allowed NSSAI, the network (e.g., AMF) sends a Registration Reject message to the UE, including the NSSRG policy for the access type. In one example, the NSSRG policy is sent in a secured Registration Reject message (i.e., the message is integrity protected or encrypted, or both). The Registration Reject message may not be secured.

[0043] In one example, the NSSRG policy may be sent in a NAS message during a network initiated deregistration procedure, for example, the NSSRG policy is set in a deregistration request message. If the network determines that the NSSRG policy in the UE is not up-to-date or receives a request from the UDM to update the NSSRG policy for an access type, the AMF sends the NSSRG policy during the deregistration procedure.

[0044] In another example, the per-access-type NSSRG policy may be provided to the UE via a UE Configuration Update procedure. If the per-access-type NSSRG policy for one or more network slices that the UE has already registered is changed based on a change in the UE subscription or as a result of an operator policy update, the AMF updates the per-access-type NSSRG policy for that network slice in the UE via the UE Configuration Update procedure.

[0045] In one example, the AMF sends an NSSRG policy for an access type other than the current access type. When the network (e.g., the AMF) sends NSSRG policies for multiple access types, the NSSRG policies are sent with an access type identifier that identifies the access type, for example, {(NSSRG policy 1, 3GPP access), (NSSRG policy 2, non-3GPP access)}. In this case, (NSSRG policy 1, 3GPP access) means that NSSRG policy 1 is for 3GPP access, and (NSSRG policy 2, non-3GPP access) means that NSSRG policy 2 is for non-3GPP access.

[0046] 7. If the UE receives a registration accept message or a registration accept message containing an NSSRG policy, the UE stores the NSSRG policy for the access type. The UE sends a Registration complete message to the AMF. If the UE receives a registration accept message containing an NSSRG policy for an access type other than the current access type, the UE stores the NSSRG policy for the access type other than the current access type.

[0047] 8. If the UE configures a Request NSSAI in the Registration Request message, the UE applies or enforces the NSSRG policy. For example, the UE includes S-NSSAIs that can be simultaneously allowed in the Request NSSAI of the Registration Request message according to the NSSRG policy for the current access type. For example, if the NSSRG policy indicates that S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 can be simultaneously allowed, the UE includes S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 in the Request NSSAI of the Registration Request message.

[0048] The AMF may manage NSSRG policies for each access type level context. Table 1 shows an example of a UE context in the AMF. The UE context as defined in Table 1 may be applicable to the UE context in the UE as well. [Table 1]

[0049] <Second aspect> The second aspect can, for example, solve problem statement 1 and problem statement 2 as shown below.

[0050] <Problem statement 2> In the case of roaming, the UE may be registered in a first VPLMN in 3GPP access and in a second VPLMN in non-3GPP access.

[0051] It is unclear how the UE and the AMF implement the NSSRG policy in a situation where the UE is registered to a first VPLMN in a 3GPP access while the UE is registered to a second VPLMN in a non-3GPP access.

[0052] In a second aspect, when the UE registers in the first PLMN via the first access type, the AMF informs the UDM of an authorized NSSAI of the first access type. The authorized NSSAI of the first access type may be referred to as an authorized NSSAI for the first PLMN.

[0053] If the UE is registered to access the second PLMN via a second access type, the AMF fetches the authorized NSSAI of the first access type from the UDM and compares the S-NSSAI included in the Request NSSAI with the S-NSSAI included in the Authorized NSSAI for the first PLMN. If the S-NSSAI in the Request NSSAI is compatible with the S-NSSAI in the Authorized S-NSSAI for the first PLMN, the Request NSSAI is approved and included in the Authorized NSSAI.

[0054] The detailed steps of the registration procedure for different PLMNs over 3GPP access and non-3GPP access are described below.

[0055] 0. The UE registers to VPLMN1 via a first access type, and an authorized NSSAI1 for VPLMN1 is stored in UDM (or other Network Function (NF), e.g., NSSF) during the registration procedure in VPLMN1. AMF1 assigns 5G-GUTI1 to the UE. AMF1 sends the authorized NSSAI1 to UDM during the registration procedure. For example, the UE sends the authorized NSSAI1 and VPLMN1 identity to UDM1 using one of the existing messages. For example, the AMF sends the authorized NSSAI1 and VPLMN1 identity to UDM1 using one of the existing messages. The VPLMN1 identity is an identity or identifier that identifies VPLMN1.

[0056] The AMF may also send the configured NSSAI1 to the UDM. The VPLMN1 identity may be the AMF identity, the 5G-GUTI, or a combination in the MCC and MNC. For example, -0.1.After the registration procedure is successful, the AMF sends a Nudm_SDM_Info message to the UDM, including the authorized NSSAI for VPLMN1, the configured NSSAI for VPLMN1, and the VPLMN1 identity information. -0-2. After the registration procedure is successful, the AMF sends a Nudm_UECM_Update message to the UDM including an authorized NSSAI for VPLMN1, a configured NSSAI for VPLMN1, and VPLMN1 identity information.

[0057] 1. The UE initiates a registration procedure to VPLMN2 via a second access type: The UE sends a registration request message to VPLMN2, including a request NSSAI2 of VPLMN2.

[0058] 2. AMF2 optionally performs authentication and security mode command procedures.

[0059] 3. The AMF itself registers with the UDM for the UE by sending a Nudm_UECM_Registration request message. The Nudm_UECM_Registration request message includes an access type (e.g., a second access type) and a RAT type. For example, the Nudm_UECM_Registration request message includes information indicating the second access type and information indicating the RAT type.

[0061] 5. The UDM sends a Nudm_SDM_GET Response (Nudm_SDM_GET Rsp) message to the AMF, including the UE subscription parameters, the authorized NSSAI1 for VPLMN1, and the configured NSSAI1 for VPLMN1. The authorized NSSAI1 for VPLMN1 may be referred to as the authorized NSSAI1 of VPLMN1. The configured NSSAI1 for VPLMN1 may be referred to as the configured NSSAI1 of VPLMN1.

[0062] 6. Upon receiving the Nudm_SDM_GET Response message including the authorized NSSAI1 of VPLMN1, AMF2 determines the authorized NSSAI2 of PLMN2 based on the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI1 of PLMN1.

[0063] If the authorized NSSAI1 includes S-NSSAI1 and the requested NSSAI in step 1 includes S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2, but S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2 cannot be created (or authorized) simultaneously according to the NSSRG policy, AMF2 includes only S-NSSAI1 in the authorized NSSAI2 of PLMN2. AMF2 may obtain the NSSRG policy from the UDM. For example, AMF2 obtains the NSSRG policy in steps 3 to 5 of Figure 2 in the same manner as steps 3 to 5 of Figure 1.

[0064] If the authorized NSSAI1 is stored in another NF, the AMF fetches the authorized NSSAI1 from that NF. The NSSRG policy may be for an access type. For example, the NSSRG policy may be for either 3GPP access or non-3GPP access.

[0065] 7. The AMF2 sends the authorized NSSAI2 and configured NSSAI2 of the VPLMN2 in a registration accept message to the UE. In addition, the AMF may send NSSRG information to the UE in the registration accept message.

[0066] 8. Upon receiving the registration accept message including the authorized NSSAI2, the UE stores the authorized NSSAI2 for VPLMN2 and uses the authorized NSSAI2 in NAS and AS procedures for VPLMN2. The UE sends a registration complete message to the AMF. The UE may use the received NSSRG information in NAS and AS procedures for VPLMN2.

[0067] 9. The AMF2 sends the authorized NSSAI2, and optionally the configured NSSAI2, to the UDM in either step 9-1 or 9-2. -9-1.AMF2 sends a Nudm_SDM_Info message UDM containing the authorized NSSAI2 for VPLMN2, the configured NSSAI2 for VPLMN2, and the VPLMN2 identity information after AMF2 receives the registration complete message from the UE. -9-2. After AMF2 receives a registration complete message from the UE, the AMF sends a Nudm_UECM_Update message to the UDM including an authorized NSSAI2 for VPLMN2, a configured NSSAI2 for VPLMN2, and VPLMN2 identification information.

[0068] The VPLMN2 identity is identity information or an identifier that identifies the VPLMN2.

[0069] In this aspect, the first access type is a 3GPP access and the second access type is a non-3GPP access, or vice versa, respectively. In this aspect, the first access type and the second access type may be the same access type.

[0070] <First variation of the second aspect> In step 1, the UE may send the Allowed NSSAI1 and the Requested NSSAI2 of the VPLMN1 in a Registration Request message.

[0071] In step 6, AMF2 may use the authorization NSSAI1 received in step 1 to calculate the authorization NSSAI2 for VPLMN2 as defined in step 6.

[0072] <Second variation of the second aspect> In step 1, the UE may send the UE's 5G-GUTI1 in a registration request message. During the registration procedure, the AMF2 may fetch the authorization NSSAI1 from the AMF1 by sending a first message including the 5G-GUTI1 to the AMF1. The AMF1 may send the authorization NSSAI1 corresponding to the 5G-GUTI1 to the AMF2 in a second message. The first and second messages may be existing messages defined for communication between the two AMFs, or may be new messages.

[0073] In step 6, AMF2 may use the authorization NSSAI1 received in step 1 to calculate the authorization NSSAI2 for VPLMN2 as defined in step 6.

[0074] The AMF may manage NSSRG policies and VPLMN identity information for each access type level context. Table 2 shows an example of a UE context in the AMF. The UE context as defined in Table 2 may be applicable to the UE context in the UE as well. [Table 2]

[0075] <Third aspect> The third aspect may, for example, solve problem statement 1.

[0076] In a third aspect, a UE is configured with a common NSSRG for any access type, the UE is registered in a first access type, and an authorized NSSAI for the first access type and a configured NSSAI for the first access type are assigned to the UE.

[0077] The UE gets a trigger to register for the S-NSSAI in the second access type. The UE includes only the S-NSSAI belonging to the NSSRG that includes at least one of the S-NSSAIs of the allowed NSSAI1 in the first access type. In this aspect, the first access type is 3GPP access and the second access type is non-3GPP access, or vice versa, respectively. The first access type and the second access type are always different. This aspect may be applicable for the case where the UE is registered in PLMN1 in the first access type and is performing a registration procedure in PLMN2 in the second access type. In all the variations of this aspect, the received NSSRG policy in the access type is applicable for both the first access type and the second access type.

[0078] The detailed steps of the procedure are defined as follows:

[0079] 0. The UE performs a registration procedure, where the UE registers with PLMN1 via a first access type, and the UE is assigned an authorized NSSAI1 for PLMN1 and a configured NSSAI1 for PLMN1 by PLMN1. The authorized NSSAI1 may be for the first access type. The configured NSSAI1 may be for the first access type. The UE is also configured with NSSRG information. The NSSRG information may be for PLMN1. The NSSRG information may be for the first access type. The UE may receive the NSSRG information from the AMF of PLMN1 during the registration procedure for PLMN1.

[0080] For example, the UE receives the authorized NSSAI1, the configured NSSAI1, and the NSSRG information in the first access type for PLMN1 by receiving a registration accept message in the same manner as in step 6 of Figure 1. In addition, the AMF may receive the NSSRG information from the UDM in the same manner as in steps 4 and 5 of Figure 1. In addition, the AMF may configure (or determine) the authorized NSSAI, including the S-NSSAI, based on the NSSRG information in the same manner as in step 6 of Figure 1.

[0081] 1. The UE receives a request from an upper layer to trigger a registration procedure for S-NSSAI1 in (or via) a second access type to the same PLMN. The UE checks whether S-NSSAI1 shares a common NSSRG with all S-NSSAIs in Allowed NSSAI1 by using the NSSRG information of the first access type for PLMN1. The UE performs either step 2a or 2b depending on the result of the check.

[0082] 2a. If S-NSSAI1 shares a common NSSRG with all S-NSSAIs in the Authorized NSSAI1, the UE initiates the registration procedure by sending a Registration Request message including S-NSSAI1 in the Requested NSSAI. The UE sends the Registration Request message via the second access type.

[0083] Upon receiving the registration request message, based on the NSSRG information, the AMF checks whether S-NSSAI1 shares a common group with all S-NSSAIs present in the authorized NSSAI1. If this is the case, the AMF includes S-NSSAI1 as an authorized NSSAI in the registration accept message according to the registration procedure, otherwise the AMF rejects S-NSSAI1 with a cause value that the slice is incompatible with the authorized NSSAI of the first access type. The authorized NSSAI included in the registration accept message is for the second access type.

[0084] 2b If the S-NSSAI1 does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI in the allowed NSSAI1 of the first access type, the UE does not send a registration request message with the S-NSSAI1.

[0085] <Example of the third aspect> Example i.UE has a configured NSSAI, information of NSSRG, and an allowed NSSAI.

[0086] The constructed NSSAIs include S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B, and S-NSSAI C. The NSSRG includes two groups, such as {S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B} and {S-NSSAI B, S-NSSAI C}. That is, in this case, S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B belong to the first group, and S-NSSAI B and S-NSSAI C belong to the second group. The allowed NSSAI1 includes S-NSSAI A.

[0087] For example, the UE receives a request from higher layers to trigger a registration procedure for S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A in the second access type. In this case, the UE checks whether S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A in Allowed NSSAI1.

[0088] In this case, S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B belong to the first group, therefore, the UE determines that S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A requested by higher layers shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A in Allowed NSSAI1. Then, the UE sends a Registration Request message including the Requested NSSAI set to S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A.

[0089] In other words, the UE checks whether the higher layer requested S-NSSAI (i.e., the S-NSSAI that can be set to the Requested NSSAI) and the S-NSSAI in the Allowed NSSAI belong to the same NSSRG. If the higher layer requested S-NSSAI and the S-NSSAI in the Allowed NSSAI belong to the same NSSRG, the UE sends a registration request message including the Requested NSSAI that is set to the higher layer requested S-NSSAI.

[0090] In other words, the UE checks whether the higher layer requested S-NSSAI (i.e., the S-NSSAI that can be set to the Requested NSSAI) is included in the NSSRG that includes the S-NSSAI in the Allowed NSSAI. If the higher layer requested S-NSSAI is included in the NSSRG, the UE sends a registration request message including the Requested NSSAI that is set to the higher layer requested S-NSSAI.

[0091] In addition, the AMF also checks in the same manner as the UE whether S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A in the Requested NSSAI of the Registration Request message shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A in the Allowed NSSAI1. In this case, S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B belong to the first group, and therefore the AMF also determines that S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A in the Requested NSSAI shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A in the Allowed NSSAI1. Then, the AMF checks whether S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A in the Requested NSSAI of the Registration Request message shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A in the Allowed NSSAI1. N The SSAI A is included in a registration accept message as an allowed NSSAI1 and the registration accept message is sent to the UE.

[0092] That is, if the requested NSSAI in the second access type is S-NSSAI B or S-NSSAI A, the registration procedure is allowed to start in the second access type.

[0093] For example, the UE receives a request from higher layers to trigger a registration procedure for S-NSSAI C in the second access type. In this case, the UE checks whether S-NSSAI C shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A in Allowed NSSAI1.

[0094] In this case, S-NSSAI C belongs to the second group, so the UE determines that the higher layer requested S-NSSAI C does not share a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A in Allowed NSSAI1, and the UE does not send a Registration Request message including the Requested NSSAI set to S-NSSAI C.

[0095] That is, if the requesting NSSAI in the second access type is S-NSSAI C, the registration procedure is not allowed to start in the second access type.

[0096] Example ii. The UE has configured NSSAI, information of NSSRG, and allowed NSSAI. The configured NSSAI includes S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B, S-NSSAI C, and S-NSSAI D. The NSSRG includes three groups such as {S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B}, {S-NSSAI B, S-NSSAI C}, and {S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B, S-NSSAI C}. That is, in this case, S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B belong to the first group, S-NSSAI B and S-NSSAI C belong to the second group, and S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B, and S-NSSAI C belong to the third group. The allowed NSSAI1 includes S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B.

[0097] For example, the UE receives a request from higher layers to trigger a registration procedure for S-NSSAI C in the second access type. In this case, the UE checks whether S-NSSAI C shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B in Allowed NSSAI1.

[0098] In this case, S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B, and S-NSSAI C belong to the third group, and therefore the UE determines that higher layer requested S-NSSAI C shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B in Allowed NSSAI1. The UE then sends a Registration Request message including the Requested NSSAI set to S-NSSAI C.

[0099] In addition, the AMF also checks in the same manner as the UE whether S-NSSAI C shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B in the Authorized NSSAI1. In this case, S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B, and S-NSSAI C belong to the third group, and therefore the AMF also determines that S-NSSAI C in the Requested NSSAI shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B in the Authorized NSSAI1. The AMF then includes S-NSSAI C as Authorized NSSAI1 in the registration accept message and sends the registration accept message to the UE.

[0100] That is, if the requesting NSSAI in the second access type is S-NSSAI C, the registration procedure is allowed to start in the second access type.

[0101] For example, the UE receives a request from higher layers to trigger a registration procedure for S-NSSAI D in the second access type. In this case, the UE checks whether S-NSSAI D shares a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B in Allowed NSSAI1.

[0102] In this case, S-NSSAI D does not belong to any group, and therefore the UE determines that S-NSSAI D requested by higher layers does not share a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI A and S-NSSAI B in Allowed NSSAI1, and the UE does not send a Registration Request message including a Requested NSSAI set to S-NSSAI D.

[0103] That is, if the requested NSSAI in the second access type is S-NSSAI D, the registration procedure is not allowed to start in the second access type.

[0104] In addition, for example, steps 1, 2a, and 2b in Figure 3 may be performed after step 7 in Figure 1. For example, if a UE is registered in a first access in steps 1-7 in Figure 1, and the UE performs a registration procedure in a second access, the UE may perform step 1 in Figure 3 based on the NSSRG information of the first access. Then, the UE performs step 2a or step 2b in Figure 3.

[0105] In addition, for example, steps 1, 2a, and 2b in FIG. 3 may be performed after step 8 in FIG. 2 If the UE is registered in the second access in steps 1 to 8 of Fig. 3 and performs a registration procedure in the first access, the UE may perform step 1 of Fig. 3 based on the NSSRG information of the second access. Then, the UE performs step 2a or step 2b of Fig. 3.

[0106] <First variation of the third aspect> If the S-NSSAI1 does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI of the Authorized NSSAI1, the UE does not send a registration request message with the S-NSSAI1, and the UE may perform a deregistration procedure in the first access. After the deregistration procedure in the first access, the UE initiates a registration procedure in the second access and sends a registration request message including the S-NSSAI1 in the Requested NSSAI.

[0107] <Second variation of the third aspect> The UE and the network (e.g., AMF) implement the NSSRG policy for the first access and the second access of the UE independently. If the UE initiates a registration procedure in the second access while the UE is registered in the first access, the UE does not check whether the request NSSAI in the second access shares a common NSSRG for the authorized NSSAI of the first access type. In this case, the AMF may check whether the request NSSAI in the second access shares a common NSSRG for the authorized NSSAI of the first access type. In addition, the AMF may obtain the NSSRG information of the first access type for PLMN1 to check whether the request NSSAI in the second access shares a common NSSRG for the authorized NSSAI of the first access type. For example, the AMF obtains the NSSRG information of the first access type for PLMN1 from the UDM in the same manner as steps 4 and 5 of FIG. 1.

[0108] The AMF may manage NSSRG policies for each UE level context. Table 3 shows an example of a UE context in the AMF. The UE context as defined in Table 3 may be applicable to the UE context in the UE as well. [Table 3]

[0109] <Third variation of the third aspect> In step 0, the network (e.g., AMF) sends a configuration parameter, e.g., NSSRG access type priority. For example, the configuration parameter is sent to the UE. The configuration parameter indicates whether the first access or the second access has a higher priority for continuing the ongoing NAS procedure. For example, if the UE is registered in the first access and has an authorized NSSAI, and the requesting NSSAI for the second access type does not share a common NSSRG with the authorized NSSAI in the first access, the configuration parameter indicates whether the first access or the second access has a higher priority for continuing the ongoing NAS procedure. The configuration parameter is sent in an existing NAS message or a new NAS message during the NAS procedure (e.g., a registration accept message in the registration procedure, or a configuration update command message during a generic configuration update command procedure). The network (e.g., AMF) may send the configuration parameter regardless of the registration status of the UE in 3GPP access or non-3GPP access. The AMF may obtain configuration parameters as subscriber data from the UDM.

[0110] In steps 1 and 2, if the configuration parameters indicate that the second access has a higher priority than the first access and S-NSSAI1 does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI of the authorized NSSAI1 of the first access type, when the UE receives a trigger to register for S-NSSAI1 in the second access, the UE sends a registration request message including S-NSSAI1 in the request NSSAI. If the configuration parameters indicate that the first access has a higher priority than the second access type, the UE does not send a registration request message including S-NSSAI1 in the request NSSAI to the network. Once the UE has an authorized NSSAI for the second access type, the UE may initiate other NAS procedures for the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI, such as a PDU session establishment or service request procedure for the authorized NSSAI.

[0111] The UE or AMF may release the N1 signaling connection in the first access if the second access has a higher priority. The UE may trigger a registration request message in the first access including an S-NSSAI that belongs to a common NSSRG for the S-NSSAI of the request NSSAI of the second access. In one example, the UE starts NAS signaling in the second access only after the UE or the network releases the N1 signaling connection in the first access, or the UE or the network places an S-NSSAI that does not belong to a common NSSRG with the allowed NSSAI for the second access type in a rejected NSSAI in the first access, or the UE or the network deregisters the UE in the first access.

[0112] <Fourth variation of the third aspect> 3GPP access always has a higher priority than non-3GPP access. In step 1, if the first access is non-3GPP access, the UE may send a registration request message in 3GPP access including S-NSSAI1 in the Request NSSAI. The UE or AMF may release the N1 signaling connection in non-3GPP access, or the UE or network may place the S-NSSAI that does not belong to a common NSSRG with the Allowed NSSAI for the 3GPP access type in the Rejected NSSAI in non-3GPP access type, or deregister the UE in non-3GPP access.

[0113] <Fifth variation of the third aspect> When no PDU session exists or no DRB is established for the first access type, if the S-NSSAI in the requesting NSSAI in the second access does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI of the authorized NSSAI of the first access, the UE or the AMF processes the registration request message. Once the UE has an authorized NSSAI for the second access type, the UE may initiate other NAS procedures for the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI, such as a PDU session establishment or service request procedure for the authorized NSSAI.

[0114] In one example of step 1, if the UE does not have a PDU session or DRB for the first access type, the UE sends a registration request message including S-NSSAI1 as a request in the second access type; otherwise, the UE waits for a PDU session or DRB to be released for the first access type and then sends a registration request message including S-NSSAI1.

[0115] <Sixth variation of the third aspect> In step 0, the AMF sends a configuration parameter in a NAS message during the registration procedure (e.g., a registration accept message) or in a NAS message during the NAS procedure indicating whether the UE can initiate a registration procedure for the requested NSSAI in the second access type if the S-NSSAI of the requested NSSAI does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI of the allowed S-NSSAI of the first access type.

[0116] In steps 1 and 2, if the configuration parameters indicate that the UE is allowed to send the requested NSSAI in the second access type if the S-NSSAI of the requested NSSAI does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI of the authorized NSSAI, the UE initiates a registration procedure for the requested NSSAI in the second access type, otherwise the UE does not initiate a registration procedure for the requested NSSAI in the second access. Once the UE has an authorized NSSAI for the second access type, the UE may initiate other NAS procedures for the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI, such as a PDU session establishment or service request procedure for the authorized NSSAI.

[0117] In one example, the authorized NSSAI of the first access type includes S-NSSAI1, and the requested NSSAI in the second access type is S-NSSAI2. If S-NSSAI2 does not share a common NSSRG with S-NSSAI1 and the UE configuration parameters indicate that the UE is allowed to initiate registration in the second access type if the requested NSSAI does not share a common NSSRG for the authorized NSSAI in the first access type, the UE initiates a registration procedure with the requested NSSAI set to S-NSSAI2 in the second access type. Otherwise, the configuration parameters do not allow this and the UE does not initiate a registration request procedure with the requested NSSAI set to S-NSSAI2 in the second access type.

[0118] In one example, if the configuration parameters allow the UE to initiate a registration procedure in the second access type if the authorized NSSAI of the first access does not share a common NSSRG with the requesting NSSAI or authorized NSSAI in the second access type, the UE may initiate all NAS procedures (e.g., a service request procedure) in the second access type.

[0119] <Seventh Variation of the Third Aspect> Each access applies the NSSRG policy independently in the NAS or AS procedure of each access. If an NSSRG policy is sent to the UE and this NSSRG policy is applied for both accesses, the UE and the network apply the NSSRG policy in the authorization or request NSSAI of one access type independently of the authorization or request NSSAI of another access type, i.e., the request or authorization NSSAI of the second access type does not depend on the authorization or request NSSAI of the first access type. It means that there is a common NSSRG per UE that is applicable to both 3GPP and non-3GPP access types, but each access type has its own NSSRG management (e.g., its own NSSRG policy) and ignores the NSSRG management in another access type (e.g., the NSSRG policy in another access type).

[0120] For example, the UE has configured S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2. The NSSRG policy is {S-NSSAI1} and {S-NSSAI2}, and the UE may send a registration request message including S-NSSAI2 in the request NSSAI in the second access type if the allowed NSSAI of the first access type is {S-NSSAI1}. The network (e.g., AMF) may approve S-NSSAI2 as the allowed NSSAI for the second access type.

[0121] <Eighth Variation of the Third Aspect> In step 2a, the network (e.g., AMF) receives a registration request message from the UE with S-NSSAI1 in the requested NSSAI in the second access type, and if the received S-NSSAI1 cannot coexist with the S-NSSAI in the allowed NSSAI of the first access type according to the common NSSRG rule for both access types, the network (e.g., AMF) accepts the S-NSSAI1 of the second access type. In this case, the network (e.g., AMF) sends a registration accept message to the UE, including the S-NSSAI1 for the allowed NSSAI of the second access type and the rejected NSSAI of new parameters for other access types including all S-NSSAIs that are incompatible in the first access type for S-NSSAI1. Upon receiving the registration accept message, the UE updates the allowed NSSAI and rejected NSSAI in the UE. Alternatively, the network (e.g., AMF) initiates another configuration update command procedure to update new allowed NSSAIs or / and rejected NSSAIs in the first access type by sending a configuration update command message including allowed NSSAIs and rejected NSSAIs based on the result of the registration management procedure in the second access type.

[0122] For example, a UE is configured with slices S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B, and S-NSSAI C. The NSSRG policy includes compatible slices {S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B} and {S-NSSAI B, S-NSSAI C}. The UE registers with the Allowed NSSAI = {S-NSSAI A, S-NSSAI B} in the first access type. The UE sends a Registration Request message in the second access type, including the Requested NSSAI set to S-NSSAI C. Upon receiving the Registration Request message, the network approves the Requested NSSAI and sends a Registration Accept message, including the Allowed NSSAI set to S-NSSAI C. The network sends a Configuration Update Command procedure with the Allowed NSSAI set to S-NSSAI B and the Rejected NSSAI set to S-NSSAI A with the reason that the slice is not coexistent or compatible with the Allowed NSSAI according to the NSSRG policy. For example, the network sends a configuration update command procedure with an allowed NSSAI for the first access type set to S-NSSAI B and a rejected NSSAI set to S-NSSAI A with the reason that the slice cannot coexist or is not compatible with the allowed NSSAI according to the NSSRG policy.

[0123] <Ninth variation of the third aspect> In step 2b, if the network (e.g., AMF) receives a registration request message from the UE with S-NSSAI1 in the requested NSSAI in the second access type, and the received S-NSSAI1 cannot coexist with the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI of the first access type according to the common NSSRG rule for both access types, the network (e.g., AMF) rejects the registration procedure by sending a registration reject message including a cause indicating to the UE to register in the second access for the S-NSSAI that shares a common NSSRG with the authorized NSSAI in the first access type. Upon receiving the registration reject message, the UE may send a registration request message in the second access type including the requested NSSAI set to only the S-NSSAI that is compatible with the S-NSSAI of the authorized NSSAI of the first access type.

[0124] Alternatively, when the UE receives the registration rejection message, the UE may send a registration request message in the first access type without including a requested NSSAI set in the S-NSSAI that is incompatible with the requested NSSAI set in the S-NSSAI in the registration request message in the second access type. That is, the UE removes all incompatible S-NSSAIs from the allowed NSSAIs in the first access type. After the registration procedure in the first access type is successful, the UE resumes the registration procedure in the second access type again.

[0125] <Tenth variation of the third aspect> In step 1, when the S-NSSAI of the request NSSAI does not share a common NSSRG with the authorized NSSAI of the first access type, if the S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI has a higher priority than the S-NSSAI of the authorized NSSAI in the first access type, the UE may send a registration request including the request NSSAI in the second access. The priority of the S-NSSAI may be configured by the network (e.g., AMF) or the UE determines the priority of the S-NSSAI, for example, if a first application mapped to the first S-NSSAI has a higher priority than a second application mapped to the second S-NSSAI, the first S-NSSAI has a higher priority than the second S-NSSAI.

[0126] <Fourth aspect> The fourth aspect can, for example, solve problem statement 3 as shown below:

[0127] <Problem statement 3> When the UE performs the registration procedure, the AMF assigned to the UE may be changed to another one (i.e., another AMF) for various reasons, such as long-distance UE movement, lack of support for a new S-NSSAI in the requested NSSAI from the UE, etc.

[0128] In this case, it is not clear how the new AMF obtains the NSSRG information, since the new AMF does not always download subscriber data from the UDM for every single registration procedure.

[0129] In a fourth aspect, the AMF stores the NSSRG information in the UE context. When the registration procedure requires an AMF change, the old AMF transfers the NSSRG information to the new AMF, so that the new AMF can generate an authorization NSSAI taking into account the NSSRG information.

[0130] The detailed steps of the procedure are defined as follows:

[0131] 0. The UE is registered to the old AMF. The old AMF maintains the configured NSSAI, subscribed NSSAI, S-NSSAI of the UE registration, and NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI in the UE context.

[0132] 1. When the UE initiates the registration procedure by sending a registration request message including a 5G-GUTI to the 5GC through the access network, the access network selects a new AMF. For example, if the old AMF does not cover the new UE location, the access network selects a new AMF. For example, the registration request message includes a request NSSAI.

[0133] 2. The new AMF sends a Namf_Communication_UEContextTransfer message including the 5G-GUTI to the old AMF to obtain the UE context for the UE. The old AMF can be found based on the 5G-GUTI.

[0134] 3. The old AMF finds the UE context for the UE based on the received 5G-GUTI and sends a Namf_Communication_UEContextTransfer response message including the NSSRG information to the new AMF. The old AMF may include the authorized NSSAI, the configured NSSAI, and the subscribed NSSAI in the Namf_Communication_UEContextTransfer response message. For example, the old AMF sends the NSSRG information in response to receiving the Namf_Communication_UEContextTransfer message. In addition, for example, the old AMF finds the NSSRG information corresponding to the 5G-GUTI and sends the NSSRG information to the new AMF.

[0135] 4. When the new AMF receives the NSSRG information, the new AMF generates an authorized NSSAI taking into account the received NSSRG information. The new AMF proceeds with the registration procedure at step 6 of section 4.2.2.2.2 in non-patent document 4. For example, the requested NSSAI in the registration request message is S-NSSAI1, and the received NSSRG information includes information indicating that the NSSRG has S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2, and the new AMF generates an authorized NSSAI including S-NSSAI1 and S-NSSAI2.

[0136] <First variation of the fourth aspect> If the UE is registered to another access type for the same AMF, i.e., if the UE is registered to both 3GPP access and non-3GPP access for a single PLMN, the old AMF may include the authorized NSSAI assigned to the UE for the other access type in the Namf_Communication_UEContextTransfer response message in step 3. For example, if the UE is registered to a first access type (e.g., 3GPP access) for the new AMF and the UE performs a registration procedure to the new AMF via a second access type (e.g., non-3GPP access), in step 3 the old AMF may include the authorized NSSAI assigned to the UE for the first access type in the Namf_Communication_UEContextTransfer response message.

[0137] In this case, the new AMF generates an authorization NSSAI taking into account the S-NSSAI assigned to another access type for the UE. For example, the new AMF generates an authorization NSSAI for the second access type taking into account the S-NSSAI in the authorization NSSAI of the first access type for the UE. For example, the new AMF generates an authorization NSSAI for the second access type that includes at least one of the S-NSSAIs in the authorization NSSAI of the first access type.

[0138] The AMF may manage NSSRG policies for each UE level context. Table 4 shows an example of a UE context in the AMF. The UE context as defined in Table 4 may be applicable to the UE context in the UE as well. [Table 4]

[0139] <Fifth aspect> The fifth aspect can, for example, solve problem statement 4 as shown below.

[0140] <Problem statement 4> When a handover occurs for the UE, it is not clear how the RAN node takes the NSSRG information into account for the handover.

[0141] In a fifth aspect, for service continuity, in mobility via handover, the source RAN (Radio Access Network) takes into account the NSSRG affiliation of the network slice supported by the target cell, as shown in FIG. 5.

[0142] The NSSRG affiliation of the network slice supported by the target cell may be referred to as NSSRG information of the target cell.

[0143] 1. The UE requests to register with the network, and the UE provides its UE identity (or UE Id or UE identifier) and a Requested NSSAI along with the remaining required parameters. For example, the UE sends a Registration Request message including the UE Id and the Requested NSSAI.

[0144] 2. The network and the UE successfully perform UE authentication and UE security procedures.

[0145] 3. The AMF obtains UE subscription information from the UDM along with NSSRG information for the network slice for which the UE requested registration.

[0146] For example, the AMF sends a Nudm_SDM_GET Request (Nudm_SDM_GET Req) message to the UDM to obtain UE subscription parameters for the UE. The UDM sends a Nudm_SDM_GET Response (Nudm_SDM_GET Rsp) message to the AMF, including the UE subscription information and NSSRG information for the network slice for which the UE requested registration. For example, the Nudm_SDM_GET Request message may include information indicating a network slice (e.g., S-NSSAI) for which the UE requested registration, and the UDM may select or choose appropriate NSSRG information based on the information indicating the network slice and send the NSSRG information to the AMF. For example, the UDM may select or choose NSSRG information indicating that the NSSRG comprises at least one of the network slices for which the UE requested registration.

[0147] The AMF configures the authorized NSSAIs for the UE such that each of the S-NSSAIs in the authorized NSSAI shares at least one NSSRG between the S-NSSAIs. For example, the AMF configures the authorized NSSAIs such that the S-NSSAIs in the authorized NSSAI are included in the same NSSRG. In addition, the authorized NSSAIs may include the S-NSSAIs included in the requested NSSAI in step 1.

[0148] 4. The AMF provides the S-NSSAI and its NSSRG affiliation in the authorized NSSAI to the RAN node in the N2 request message or any other NGAP message between the AMF and the RAN. The AMF may also provide the NSSRG information in the CN Assistance Information element.

[0149] 5. The network confirms the UE registration with a Registration Accept message containing the Allowed NSSAI and NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI in the Allowed NSSAI.

[0150] 6. The UE sends a registration complete message to the AMF.

[0151] 7. Upon operation of the application in the UE, the higher layers request the UE to send uplink packets to the network or downlink packets arriving at the UE, and the UE is in connected mode with active PDU Sessions. When the radio bearer is established, the RAN node may receive the Authorized NSSAI and its NSSRG affiliation and NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI in the Authorized NSSAI included in the N2 message.

[0152] 8. When handover is required, the RAN node takes into account the NSSRG affiliation of network slices supported in eligible target cells. In X2 and N2 handovers, if the source RAN node does not find another cell supporting a network slice with an active PDU session, the source RAN node selects a target cell supporting a network slice that can maintain the active PDU session and belongs to the same NSSRG as the current network slice with the active PDU session. In X2 handovers, the source RAN node may obtain the supported network slice information of the target RAN and the NSSRG information on the network slice supported in the target RAN (i.e., the NSSRG information on the target RAN) via the X2 interface. For example, when a handover is performed, the source RAN node may obtain the NSSRG information on the network slice supported in the target RAN via the X2 interface. For example, based on the NSSRG information received in step 4 (i.e., the NSSRG information on the source RAN) and the NSSRG information on the target RAN, the source RAN node may select a target cell of the target RAN that has the same NSSRG as the NSSRG of the source RAN. In inter-PLMN handover, the source RAN node selects a target cell that supports the same network slice only if the network slices belong to the same NSSRG. Otherwise, the RAN node may select a target cell that can maintain an active PDU session and supports another network slice that belongs to the same NSSRG. In inter-PLMN handover, the source RAN node may obtain the supported network slice information of the target RAN and the NSSRG information on the network slices supported in the target RAN (i.e., the NSSRG information on the target RAN) via the N2 interface. For example, when a handover is performed, the source RAN node may obtain the NSSRG information on the network slices supported in the target RAN via the N2 interface. For example, based on the NSSRG information (i.e., the NSSRG information on the source RAN) and the NSSRG information on the target RAN received in step 4, the source RAN node may select a target cell of the target RAN that has the same NSSRG as the NSSRG of the source RAN.

[0153] Steps 7 and 8 of FIG. 5 may be performed after step 8 of FIG. 1, after step 8 of FIG. 2 or step 2a of FIG. 3, or after step 4 of FIG.

[0154] The above-described embodiments solve the problem of how NSSRGs need to be handled in some situations.

[0155] <System Overview> FIG. 6 illustrates diagrammatically a mobile (cellular or wireless) telecommunications system 1 to which the above aspects are applicable.

[0156] The telecommunication system 1 represents a system overview capable of end-to-end communication, e.g., UEs 3 (or user equipment, "mobile devices" 3) communicating with other UEs 3 or service servers in a data network 20 via respective (R)AN nodes 5 and a core network 7.

[0157] The (R)AN node 5 supports any radio access, including 5G radio access technology (RAT), E-UTRA radio access technology, Beyond 5G RAT, 6G RAT, and non-3GPP RAT including wireless local area network (WLAN) technologies as defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

[0158] The (R)AN node 5 may be separated into a radio unit (RU), a distributed unit (DU), and a centralized unit (CU). In some aspects, the units may be connected to each other to build the (R)AN node 5 by adopting an architecture as defined by the Open RAN (O-RAN) Alliance, and the units are referred to as O-RU, O-DU, and O-CU, respectively.

[0159] The (R)AN node 5 may be separated into a control plane function and a user plane function. Furthermore, multiple user plane functions may be allocated to support communications. In some aspects, user traffic may be distributed across multiple user plane functions, with user traffic in each user plane function being aggregated at both the UE 3 and the (R)AN node 5. This separated architecture may be referred to as "dual connectivity" or "multi-connectivity."

[0160] The (R)AN node 5 may also support communications using satellite access. In some aspects, the (R)AN node 5 may support satellite and terrestrial access.

[0161] In addition, the (R)AN node 5 may also be referred to as an access node for non-wireless access, including fixed access as defined by the Broadband Forum (BBF) and optical access as defined by the Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN).

[0162] The core network 7 may include logical nodes (or "functions") that support communications in the telecommunications system 1. For example, the core network 7 may be a 5G Core Network (5GC) that includes control plane functions and user plane functions, among other functions. Each function in a logical node may be considered a network function. A network function may be provided to another node by adapting a service-based architecture (SBA).

[0163] By applying network virtualization technologies such as those defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, Network Functions Virtualization (ETSI NFV), network functions can be deployed as distributed, redundant, stateless, and scalable, providing services from several locations and providing several execution instances at each location.

[0164] The core network 7 may support a Non-Public Network (NPN). The NPN may be a Stand-alone Non-Public Network (SNPN) or a Public Network Integrated NPN (PNI-NPN).

[0165] As is known, when the UE 3 is moving around the geographic area covered by the telecommunication system 1, the UE 3 may move in and out of areas (i.e., radio cells) served by the (R)AN nodes 5. To keep track of the UE 3 and facilitate movement between the various (R)AN nodes 5, the core network 7 comprises at least one access and mobility management function (AMF) 70. The AMF 70 communicates with the (R)AN nodes 5 connected to the core network 7. In some core networks, a mobility management entity (MME) or mobility management node for Beyond 5G or a mobility management node for 6G may be used instead of the AMF 70.

[0166] The core network 7 also includes, among others, a Session Management Function (SMF) 71, a User Plane Function (UPF) 72, a Policy Control Function (PCF) 73, a Network Exposure Function (NEF) 74, a Unified Data Management (UDM) 75, and a Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) 76. When the UE 3 roams into a visited Public Land Mobile Network (VPLMN), the home Public Land Mobile Network (HPLMN) of the UE 3 provides the UDM 75 and at least some of the functions of the SMF 71, the UPF 72, and the PCF 73 to the roaming-out UE 3.

[0167] The UE 3 and the respective serving (R)AN node 5 are connected via an appropriate air interface (e.g., the so-called "Uu" interface and / or the like). Neighboring (R)AN nodes 5 are connected to each other via appropriate (R)AN node 5 to (R)AN node interfaces (such as the so-called "Xn" interface and / or the like). Each (R)AN node 5 is also connected to nodes in the core network 7 (such as the so-called core network nodes) via appropriate interfaces (such as the so-called "N2" / "N3" interfaces and / or the like). From the core network 7, a connection is also provided to a data network 20. The data network 20 may be the Internet, a public network, an external network, a private network, or an internal network of the PLMN. If the data network 20 is provided by a PLMN operator or a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services may be provided by the data network 20. The UE 3 may be connected to the data network 20 using IPv4, IPv6, IPv4v6, Ethernet, or unstructured data types.

[0168] The "Uu" interface may include a control plane of the Uu interface and a user plane of the Uu interface.

[0169] The user plane of the Uu interface is responsible for carrying user traffic between the UE 3 and the serving (R)AN node 5. The user plane of the Uu interface may have a hierarchical structure with SDAP, PDCP, RLC and MAC sublayers over physical connections.

[0170] The control plane of the Uu interface is responsible for establishing, modifying and releasing the connection between the UE 3 and the serving (R)AN node 5. The control plane of the Uu interface may have a hierarchical structure with RRC, PDCP, RLC and MAC sublayers over the physical connections.

[0171] For example, the following messages are communicated at the RRC layer to support AS signaling: - RRC SETUP REQUEST message: This message is sent from the UE 3 to the (R)AN node 5. [0172] The UE 3 and the AMF 70 are connected via a suitable interface (e.g., a so-called N1 interface and / or the like). The N1 interface is responsible for providing communication between the UE 3 and the AMF 70 to support NAS signaling. The N1 interface can be established in 3GPP access and non-3GPP access. [0192] <System overview of the (R)AN node 5 based on the O-RAN architecture> FIG. 9 is a schematic diagram of an (R)AN node 5 based on an O-RAN architecture to which the (R)AN node 5 aspects are applicable. The (R)AN node 5 based on the O-RAN architecture represents a system overview in which the (R)AN node is separated into a radio unit (RU) 60, a distribution unit (DU) 61, and a aggregation unit (CU) 62. In some aspects, each unit may be combined. For example, the RU 60 may be combined / combined with the DU 61 as a combined / combined unit, and the DU 61 may be combined / combined with the CU 62 as another combined / combined unit. Any functionality in the description of a unit (e.g., one of the RU 60, DU 61, and CU 62) may be implemented in the combined / combined unit above. Furthermore, the CU 62 may be separated into two functional units, such as a CU control plane (CP) and a CU user plane (UP). The CU CP has a control plane function in the (R)AN node 5. The CU UP has a user plane function in the (R)AN node 5. Each CU CP is connected to a CU UP via a suitable interface (such as a so-called "E1" interface and / or the like).

[0193] The UE 3 and the respective serving RU 60 are connected via a suitable air interface (e.g., a so-called "Uu" interface and / or the like). Each RU 60 is connected to a DU 61 via a suitable interface (such as a so-called "fronthaul", "open fronthaul", "F1" interface and / or the like). Each DU 61 is connected to a CU 62 via a suitable interface (such as a so-called "midhaul", "open midhaul", "E2" interface and / or the like). Each CU 62 is also connected to a node in the core network 7 (such as a so-called core network node) via a suitable interface (such as a so-called "backhaul", "open backhaul", "N2" / "N3" interface and / or the like). In addition, the user plane part of the DU 61 may also be connected to the core network node 7 via a suitable interface (such as a so-called "N3" interface and / or the like).

[0194] Depending on the functionality divided between the RU 60, the DU 61, and the CU 62, each unit provides a part of the functionality provided by the (R)AN node 5. For example, the RU 60 may provide functionality for communicating with the UE 3 over the air interface, the DU 61 may provide functionality for supporting the MAC layer and the RLC layer, and the CU 62 may provide functionality for supporting the PDCP layer, the SDAP layer, and the RRC layer.

[0195] <Radio Unit (RU)> FIG. 10 is a block diagram illustrating the main components of an exemplary RU 60, e.g., the RU portion of a base station (eNB in LTE, gNB in 5G, base station for Beyond 5G, base station for 6G). As shown, the RU 60 includes a transceiver circuit 601 operable to transmit signals to and receive signals from an attached UE 3 via one or more antennas 602, and to transmit signals to and receive signals from other network nodes or parts via a network interface 603 (directly or indirectly). Such signaling may include, for example, appropriately formatted signaling messages (e.g., registration request messages and associated response messages) relating to access and mobility management procedures (for the UE 3).

[0207] The AMF 70 may support a non-public network (NPN), which may be a stand-alone non-public network (SNPN) or a public network integrated NPN (PNI-NPN).

[0208] <udm> 14 is a block diagram illustrating the main components of the UDM 75. Such signaling may include, for example, appropriately formatted signaling messages (e.g., HTTP RESTful methods based on service-based interfaces) related to mobility management procedures (for the UE 3).

[0209] The UDM 75 may support a non-public network (NPN), which may be a stand-alone non-public network (SNPN) or a public network integrated NPN (PNI-NPN).

[0210] <Modifications and Replacements> Detailed embodiments have been described above. Still, those skilled in the art will appreciate that numerous modifications and alternatives may be made to the above embodiments while having the benefit of the disclosure embodied herein. Merely by way of example, numerous such alternatives and modifications are now described.

[0211] In the above description, the UE 3 and network devices are described for ease of understanding as having a number of separate modules (such as a communications control module). These modules may be provided in this manner, for example for certain applications where an existing system is modified to implement the present disclosure, and in other applications, for example in systems designed with the inventive features in mind from the beginning, but these modules may not be recognizable as separate entities because they may be built into an overall operating system or code. These modules may also be implemented in software, hardware, firmware, or a mixture of these.

[0212] Each controller may comprise any suitable form of processing circuitry, including, but not limited to, one or more hardware-implemented computer processors, microprocessors, central processing units (CPUs), arithmetic logic units (ALUs), input / output (IO) circuits, internal memory / caches (programs and / or data), processing registers, communication buses (e.g., control buses, data buses, and / or address buses), direct memory access (DMA) functions, hardware or software implemented counters, pointers and / or timers, and / or the like. In the above aspects, a number of software modules have been described. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the software modules may be provided in compiled or uncompiled form and may be provided to the UE 3 and network devices as signals in a computer network or on a recording medium. Furthermore, the functions performed by some or all of this software may be performed using one or more dedicated hardware circuits. However, the use of software modules is preferred to update the functionality of the UE 3 and network devices, as the software modules facilitate updating the UE 3 and network devices.

[0213] In the above embodiment, 3GPP wireless communication (radio access) technology is used. However, any other wireless communication technology (e.g., WLAN, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Bluetooth, etc.) and other fixed line communication technology (e.g., BBF access, cable access, optical access, etc.) can also be used according to the above embodiment.

[0214] Items of user equipment may include communication devices such as, for example, mobile phones, smartphones, user equipment, personal digital assistants, laptop / tablet computers, web browsers, e-book readers, and / or the like. Such mobile (and even generally fixed) devices are typically operated by a user, although so-called "Internet of Things" (IoT) devices and similar machine type communication (MTC) devices may also be connected to the network. For simplicity, the present application refers to mobile devices (or UEs) in the description, but it will be understood that the described techniques may be implemented on any (mobile and / or generally fixed) communication device that may connect to a communication network to transmit / receive data, regardless of whether such communication device is controlled by human input or by software instructions stored in memory.

[0215] Various other modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art and will not be described in further detail here.

[0216] All or part of the embodiments disclosed above may be described as follows, but are not limited to the following.

[0218] <5.15.2.1 General remarks> The S-NSSAI identifies the network slice. S-NSSAI is -Slice / Service type (SST), which refers to the expected network slice behavior in terms of functions and services; -Slice Differentiator (SD), which is optional information that supplements the slice / service type to distinguish between multiple network slices of the same slice / service type It is composed of:

[0219] An S-NSSAI may have a standard value (i.e., such an S-NSSAI is configured with only an SST having a standardized SST value see Section 5.15.2.2 and without an SD) or a non-standard value (i.e., such an S-NSSAI is configured with both an SST and an SD, or with only an SST without a standardized SST value and without an SD). An S-NSSAI with a non-standard value identifies a single network slice within the PLMN with which the single network slice is associated.

[0220] An S-NSSAI with a non-standard value should not be used by the UE in access stratum procedures in any PLMN other than the one with which the S-NSSAI is associated.

[0221] The NSSP in the URSP rules (see TS 23.503

[45] Section 6.6.2) and the S-NSSAI in the subscribed S-NSSAI (see Section 5.15.3) contain only the HPLMN S-NSSAI value.

[0222] The S-NSSAI in the Configured NSSAI, Allowed NSSAI (see clause 5.15.4.1), Requested NSSAI (see clause 5.15.5.2.1) and Rejected S-NSSAI only contains values from the serving PLMN, which may be the HPLMN or the VPLMN.

[0223] The S-NSSAI in the PDU session establishment contains one Serving PLMN S-NSSAI value and may additionally contain the corresponding HPLMN S-NSSAI value to which this first value is mapped (see section 5.15.5.3).

[0224] The optional mapping of the serving PLMN S-NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI includes the serving PLMN S-NSSAI value and the corresponding mapping HPLMN S-NSSAI value.

[0225] The NSSAI is a collection of S-NSSAIs. The NSSAI may be a configured NSSAI, a requested NSSAI, or an authorized NSSAI. There may be at most eight S-NSSAIs in the authorized and requested NSSAIs sent in a signaling message between the UE and the network. The requested NSSAI signaled by the UE to the network allows the network to select a serving AMF, a network slice, and a network slice instance for this UE, as specified in clause 5.15.5.

[0226] Based on an operator's operational or deployment requirements, a network slice instance may be associated with one or more S-NSSAIs, and an S-NSSAI may be associated with one or more network slice instances. Multiple network slice instances associated with the same S-NSSAI may be deployed in the same tracking area or different tracking areas. When multiple network slice instances associated with the same S-NSSAI are deployed in the same tracking area, an AMF instance serving a UE may logically belong to (i.e., may be common to) multiple network slice instances associated with this S-NSSAI.

[0227] In a PLMN, if an S-NSSAI is associated with multiple network slice instances, one of these network slice instances serves a UE that is authorized to use this S-NSSAI as a result of the network slice instance selection procedure defined in clause 5.15.5. For any S-NSSAI, the network may serve a UE at any given time with only one network slice instance associated with this S-NSSAI, until, for example, a case occurs in which this network slice instance is no longer valid in a given registration area or a change in the UE's authorized NSSAI occurs. In such cases, the procedures referred to in clauses 5.15.5.2.2 or 5.15.5.2.3 apply.

[0228] Based on the requested NSSAI (if any) and the subscription information, the 5GC is responsible for selecting a network slice instance to serve the UE, including the 5GC control plane and user plane network functions corresponding to this network slice instance. The subscription information may include restrictions on simultaneous registration of network slices. This is provided to the serving AMF as part of the UE subscription in the form of Network Slice Simultaneous Registration Group (NSSRG) information (see subclause 5.15.x).

[0229] The (R)AN may use the Request NSSAI in access stratum signaling to process the UE control plane connection before the 5GC informs the (R)AN of the Allowed NSSAI. The Request NSSAI is used by the RAN for AMF selection as described in clause 6.3.5. If the UE asks to resume the RRC connection and is CM-CONNECTED in the RRC Inactive state, the UE should not include the Request NSSAI in the RRC Resume.

[0230] If the UE is successfully registered in an access type, the CN informs the (R)AN by providing an authorization NSSAI for the corresponding access type. Note: Further details on how the RAN uses the NSSAI information can be found in TS 38.300

[27] .

[0231] <5.15.3 Subscription status> The subscription information includes one or more S-NSSAIs, i.e., subscription S-NSSAIs. Based on an operator's policy, one or more subscription S-NSSAIs may be marked as default S-NSSAIs. If an S-NSSAI is marked as default, when the UE does not send any authorization S-NSSAI to the network in the registration request message as part of the request NSSAI, the network is requested to serve the UE with the associated applicable network slice instance.

[0232] Subscription information for each S-NSSAI is available at - A list of subscribed DNNs and one default DNN, - an indication of whether the S-NSSAI is marked as the default subscribed S-NSSAI; -Indication of whether the S-NSSAI is subject to Network Slice-Specific Authentication and Authorization; and -Network Slice Simultaneous Use Group (NSSRG) information (see Section 5.15.x); may include.

[0233] The network checks the requested NSSAI provided by the UE in the registration request against the subscription information. For S-NSSAIs that are subject to network slice specific authentication authorization, clause 5.15.10 applies.

[0234] NOTE 1: It is recommended that at least one of the subscribed S-NSSAIs marked as the default S-NSSAI is not subject to network slice-specific authentication authorization to ensure access to the service even in case of network slice-specific authentication authorization failure.

[0235] Note 2: In order to minimize the overhead of signaling a large number of S-NSSAIs in a request NSSAI in RRC and NAS over NB-IoT, it is recommended to minimize the number of subscribed S-NSSAIs in a subscription for an NB-IoT capable UE.

[0236] In case of roaming, the UDM provides to the VPLMN only the S-NSSAI from the subscribed S-NSSAI that the HPLMN authorizes the UE in the VPLMN. If the UE is subject to the network slice concurrent registration restriction (i.e., the subscription information for the S-NSSAI includes NSSRG information), the UDM provides to the VPLMN the subscribed S-NSSAI and, if applicable, the NSSRG information, as described in clause 5.15.x.

[0237] Note 3: A network slice instance supporting an S-NSSAI that is the subject of network slice-specific authentication authorization must be deployed in an AMF that supports network slice-specific authentication authorization; otherwise, an S-NSSAI that requires network slice-specific authentication authorization will be incorrectly authorized without the execution of network slice-specific authentication authorization.

[0238] When the UDM updates the subscription S-NSSAI for a serving AMF based on the configuration in this AMF, the AMF itself or the NSSF determines the mapping of the configured NSSAI and / or the authorized NSSAI for the serving PLMN to the subscription S-NSSAI, and the serving AMF updates the UE with the above information as described in section 5.15.4.

[0239] <5.15.4.1.1 UE network slice configuration> The network slice configuration information includes one or more configured NSSAIs. The configured NSSAI may be configured by the serving PLMN and applied to the serving PLMN, or may be a default configured NSSAI configured by the HPLMN, which applies to any PLMN for which a specific configured NSSAI has not been provided to the UE. There is at most one configured NSSAI per PLMN.

[0240] NOTE 1: The value used in the Default Configured NSSAI is expected to be commonly determined by all roaming partners, e.g., by using a value standardized by 3GPP or another organization.

[0241] The default configured NSSAI, if it is configured in the UE, is used by the UE in the serving PLMN only if the UE does not have a configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN.

[0242] The configured NSSAI of a PLMN may include an S-NSSAI having a standard value or a PLMN-specific value.

[0243] The configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN includes S-NSSAI values that can be used in the serving PLMN and can be associated with a mapping of each S-NSSAI of the configured NSSAI to one or more corresponding HPLMN S-NSSAI values.

[0244] The UE subscription may include network slice simultaneous registration group (NSSRG) information, in which case UE configuration is performed as described in section 5.15.x.2.

[0245] The UE may be pre-configured with a default configured NSSAI. The UE may be provisioned / updated with a default configured NSSAI determined by the UDM in the HPLMN using the UE Parameter Update via UDM Control Plane procedure defined in clause 4.20 of TS 23.502 [3]. Each S-NSSAI in the default configured NSSAI may have a corresponding S-NSSAI as part of the subscribed S-NSSAI. As a result, if a subscribed S-NSSAI that is also present in the default configured NSSAI is updated, the UDM should update the default configured NSSAI in the UE.

[0246] In the HPLMN, the S-NSSAI in the configured NSSAI provided as described in subclause 5.15.4.2 corresponds to the subscribed S-NSSAI for the UE when it is provided to the UE. If the subscribed S-NSSAI is updated (i.e. some existing S-NSSAIs are removed and / or some new S-NSSAIs are added) and one or more are applicable to the serving PLMN where the UE is registered or the association mapping is updated as described in subclause 5.15.3, the AMF updates the UE with the configured NSSAI and / or allowed NSSAI for the serving PLMN and / or the association mapping to the HPLMN S-NSSAI (see subclause 5.15.4.2). If the authorized NSSAI needs to be updated, the AMF provides the UE with the new authorized NSSAI and the association mapping for the HPLMN S-NSSAI, unless the AMF cannot determine a new authorized NSSAI (e.g., all S-NSSAIs in the old authorized NSSAI have been removed from the subscribed S-NSSAI), and if the AMF cannot determine a new authorized NSSAI, the AMF does not send any authorized NSSAI to the UE and indicates the UE to perform a registration procedure. If the UE is in CM-IDLE state, the AMF may trigger a Network Triggered Service Request or wait until the UE is in CM-CONNECTED state as described in clause 4.2.4.2 of TS 23.502 [3].

[0247] When providing a Request-NSSAI to the network upon registration, the UE in a given PLMN shall include and use only the S-NSSAI that applies to this PLMN. A mapping of the S-NSSAI of the Request-NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI may also be provided (see clause 5.15.4.1.2 for when this is required). The S-NSSAI in the Request-NSSAI is the part of the configured NSSAI and / or allowed NSSAI that is applicable for this PLMN if the configured NSSAI and / or allowed NSSAI are available. If the UE receives NSSRG information with the configured NSSAI, the UE shall include in the Request-NSSAI only the S-NSSAIs for which all the S-NSSAIs share a common NSSRG. If the configured NSSAI and allowed NSSAI for the PLMN are not available, the S-NSSAI in the Request-NSSAI shall correspond to the default configured NSSAI, if configured in the UE. Upon successful completion of the UE registration procedure in an access type, the UE obtains from the AMF an authorized NSSAI for this access type, including one or more S-NSSAIs, if required (see clause 5.15.4.1.2 for when this is required), and their mapping to the HPLMN S-NSSAI, that are valid for the current registration area and access type provided by the AMF where the UE registered and that can be used simultaneously by the UE (up to the maximum number of simultaneous network slice instances or PDU sessions).

[0248] The UE may also obtain one or more rejection NSSAIs with the cause and justification of the rejection from the AMF. - for the entire PLMN, or -You may be denied entry to your current registration area.

[0249] While the UE remains RM-REGISTERED in a PLMN, regardless of the access type, the UE should not attempt to register again to an S-NSSAI that is rejected for the entire PLMN until this rejected NSSAI is deleted as specified below.

[0250] While the UE remains RM-REGISTERED in the PLMN, the UE should not attempt to register again to an S-NSSAI that is rejected in the current registration area until the UE moves out of the current registration area. NOTE 2: Details and more cases of S-NSSAI rejection can be found in TS 24.501

[47] .

[0251] An S-NSSAI provided by the UE in a Request NSSAI that is neither an Allowed NSSAI nor provided as a Rejected S-NSSAI should not be considered as rejected by the UE, i.e., the UE may request to register that S-NSSAI again the next time the UE sends a Request NSSAI.

[0252] The UE stores the (S-)NSSAI as follows: -The UE provides a configured NSSAI for the PLMN and / or a mapping of the configured NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI, possibly NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI in the configured NSSAI (if applicable and supported by the UE) or is required to remove the configuration due to a network slicing subscription change. - (if applicable) replacing any stored (old) configured NSSAI for this PLMN with a new configured NSSAI for this PLMN; - delete any stored association mapping of this old configured NSSAI for this PLMN to the HPLMN S-NSSAI and, if present and applicable, store the mapping of the configured NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI; - delete any stored associated NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI of the configured NSSAIs and, if present, store associated NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI of the configured NSSAIs; -delete any stored rejected S-NSSAI for this PLMN; - Maintain the received and configured NSSAI for the PLMN (if applicable) and the association mapping to the HPLMN S-NSSAI (if applicable) and the associated NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI of the configured NSSAI stored in the UE (if applicable and supported by the UE) even when registering in another PLMN until a new configured NSSAI and / or association mapping for this PLMN is provisioned in the UE or the network slicing subscription is changed as described in clause 5.15.4.2. The number of configured NSSAIs and association mappings that continue to be stored in the UE for PLMNs other than the HPLMN is up to the UE implementation. The UE may at least store the configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN including any required mapping of the configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN to the HPLMN S-NSSAI, and the default configured NSSAI. -An authorized NSSAI received in a Registration Accept message or a UE Configuration Update Command applies to a PLMN if at least the TAI of this PLMN is included in the RA / TAI list included in this Registration Accept message or UE Configuration Update Command. If the UE Configuration Update Command includes an authorized NSSAI but not a TAI list, the last received RA / TAI list is applied to determine in which PLMN the authorized NSSAI is applicable. If received, the authorized NSSAI for the PLMN and access type and any association mapping of this authorized NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI are stored in the UE. The UE should store this authorized NSSAI and any association mapping of this authorized NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI even when the UE is turned off or until the network slicing subscription is changed as described in clause 5.15.4.2. NOTE 3: It is up to the UE implementation whether the UE stores the allowed NSSAIs and any association mapping of the allowed NSSAIs to the HPLMN S-NSSAIs even when the UE is turned off. If a new authorized NSSAI for the PLMN and any association mapping of the authorized NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI is received in an access type, the UE - replacing any stored (old) authorized NSSAIs and any association mappings for these PLMNs and access types with this new authorized NSSAI; - delete any stored association mapping of this old authorized NSSAI for this PLMN to the HPLMN S-NSSAI and, if present, store an association mapping of this new authorized NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI; - If received, an S-NSSAI that is rejected for the entire PLMN is stored in the UE while in RM-REGISTERED in this PLMN, regardless of the access type or until the S-NSSAI is deleted. - If received, a rejected S-NSSAI for the current registration area is stored in the UE while in RM-REGISTERED until the UE moves out of the current registration area or the S-NSSAI is deleted. NOTE 4: The storage aspects of the rejected S-NSSAI are described in TS 24.501

[47] . If received, the Pending NSSAI is stored in the UE as described in TS 24.501

[47] .

[0253] <5.15.4.2 Updating UE network slice configuration> At any time, the AMF may provide the UE with a new configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN, which is associated with the mapping of the configured NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI as specified in clause 5.15.4.1. The configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN and the mapping information are determined in the AMF (if based on configuration, the AMF is allowed to determine the network slice configuration for the entire PLMN) or by the NSSF. The AMF provides the updated configured NSSAI as specified in the UE configuration update procedure of TS 23.502 [3], clause 4.2.4.

[0254] If the NSSRG information is included in the subscription information received from the UDM and if the UE has indicated support for the capability as part of the registration request (see clause 5.15.x), the AMF provides the NSSRG information to the UE together with the configured NSSAI.

[0255] When the HPLMN performs a configuration update for a UE registered at the HPLMN (e.g., by changing the subscribed S-NSSAI or by changing the NSSRG information), this results in updating the configured NSSAI for the HPLMN and, if applicable, the NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI of the configured NSSAI. If the configuration update affects an S-NSSAI in the current allowed NSSAI, updates to the allowed NSSAI and / or association mapping of allowed NSSAI to HPLMN S-NSSAI, if present, are also possible.

[0256] When the VPLMN performs a configuration update for a UE registered in the VPLMN (e.g., by changing the subscribed S-NSSAI, updating the association mapping, or by changing the NSSRG information), this results in updating the configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN and / or the association mapping of the configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN to the HPLMN S-NSSAI, and, if applicable, the NSSRG information for each S-NSSAI of the configured NSSAI. Updates to the allowed NSSAI and / or the association mapping of the allowed NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI are also possible if the configuration update affects the S-NSSAI in the current allowed NSSAI.

[0257] If the configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN has been updated as described in clause 5.15.4.1 and a UE that is requested to perform a registration procedure shall initiate the registration procedure and receive a new valid authorized NSSAI (see clause 5.15.5.2.2).

[0258] When the subscription S-NSSAI is changed, a UDR flag is set in the HPLMN to ensure that the current PLMN (or the next serving PLMN if the UE was not reachable) is informed by UDM that the subscription data for network slicing has changed. When the AMF receives an indication that the subscription has changed from the UDM, it updates the UE with any updated subscription information from the UDM, indicating to the UE that the subscription has changed. When the AMF updates the UE and gets a response from the UE, the AMF informs the UDM that the configuration update was successful, and the UDM clears the flag in the UDR. If the UE is in CM-IDLE state, the AMF may trigger a network triggered service request or wait until the UE is in CM-CONNECTED state as described in TS 23.502 [3] clause 4.2.4.2.

[0259] When the UE receives an indication from the AMF that the network slicing subscription has changed, the UE locally deletes the network slicing information that the UE has for all PLMNs except for the default configured NSSAI (if any). The UE also updates the current PLMN network slicing configuration information with any values received from the AMF.

[0260] Updates to URSP rules (including NSSP) whenever necessary are provided in TS 23.503

[45] .

[0261] <5.15.5.2.1 Registration for a set of network slices> When a UE registers to a PLMN in an access type, the UE: - a configured NSSAI for this PLMN, - Authorized NSSAI for this PLMN and access type If you have either or both of the following: The UE provides the network with a Request NSSAI including an S-NSSAI corresponding to the network slice on which the UE wishes to register, unless the S-NSSAI is stored in the UE in a Reserved NSSAI, at the AS layer and NAS layer under the conditions described in Section 5.15.9.

[0262] The request NSSAI is - A default configured NSSAI (i.e., when the UE has neither a configured nor an allowed NSSAI for the serving PLMN); A configured NSSAI, as described below, or a subset thereof, for example, when the UE does not have an allowed NSSAI for an access type to the serving PLMN; - the authorized NSSAI or a subset thereof for the access type for which the request NSSAI is being sent, or - the authorized NSSAI or a subset thereof for the access type for which the request NSSAI is sent, plus one or more S-NSSAIs from the configured NSSAIs that are not already in the authorized NSSAI for the access type as described below One of It is.

[0263] NOTE 1: If a UE wants to register only a subset of S-NSSAIs from the configured or authorized NSSAIs so that it can register in several network slices, e.g., to establish PDU sessions for several applications, and the UE uses URSP rules (including NSSP) or UE Local Configuration as defined in clause 6.1.2.2.1 of TS 23.503

[45] , the UE shall use the applicable URSP rules or UE Local Configuration to ensure that the S-NSSAI included in the Requested NSSAI does not conflict with the URSP rules or UE Local Configuration.

[0264] The subset of S-NSSAIs in the configured NSSAI provided in the Request NSSAI is configured with one or more S-NSSAIs in the configured NSSAI that are applicable to this PLMN, and if such S-NSSAI is present, the corresponding S-NSSAI is not already present in the Allowed NSSAI for the access type for this PLMN. The UE should not include in the Request NSSAI any S-NSSAI that is currently rejected by the network (i.e., rejected in the current registration area or rejected in the PLMN). For registration to a PLMN for which there is no applicable configured or allowed NSSAI, the S-NSSAI provided in the Request NSSAI corresponds to the S-NSSAI in the default configured NSSAI, unless the UE has a HPLMN S-NSSAI for the established PDU session, in which case the HPLMN S-NSSAI is provided in the mapping of the Request NSSAI in the NAS Registration Request message without the corresponding VPLMN S-NSSAI in the Request NSSAI. If the UE has been provided with NSSRG information along with the configured NSSAI, the UE shall include only S-NSSAIs that share a common NSSRG in the Requested NSSAI (see clause 5.15.x.2).

[0265] If the UE is registered to the PLMN in an access type, the UE also indicates in the registration request message when the requested NSSAI is based on the default configured NSSAI.

[0266] The UE includes the Request NSSAI in the RRC Connection Establishment and (applicable) connection establishment to N3IWF / TNGF and NAS Registration procedure messages under the conditions described in clause 5.15.9. However, the UE should not indicate any NSSAI in the RRC Connection Establishment or Initial NAS message unless the UE has a configured NSSAI for the corresponding PLMN, an allowed NSSAI for the corresponding PLMN and access type, or a default configured NSSAI. If the UE has a HPLMN S-NSSAI for the established PDU session, the HPLMN S-NSSAI is provided in the mapping of the Request NSSAI in the NAS Registration Request message, regardless of whether the UE has a corresponding VPLMN S-NSSAI. The (R)AN routes NAS signaling between this UE and the selected AMF using the Request NSSAI obtained during RRC Connection Establishment or connection to N3IWF / TNGF, respectively. If the (R)AN cannot select an AMF based on the request NSSAI, it routes the NAS signaling to an AMF from the set of default AMFs. In the NAS signaling, if available, the UE provides a mapping between each S-NSSAI of the request NSSAI and the corresponding HPLMN S-NSSAI.

[0267] When the UE registers to a PLMN, if the UE did not include a request NSSAI or GUAMI during the establishment of a connection to the (R)AN for this PLMN, the (R)AN routes all NAS signaling from this UE to / from the default AMF. When the 5G-AN receives the request NSSAI and 5G-S-TMSI or GUAMI from the UE in the RRC connection establishment or the establishment of a connection to the N3IWF / TNGF, if the 5G-AN can reach the AMF corresponding to the 5G-S-TMSI or GUAMI, the 5G-AN forwards the request to this AMF. Otherwise, the 5G-AN selects a suitable AMF based on the request NSSAI provided by the UE and forwards the request to the selected AMF. If the 5G-AN cannot select an AMF based on the request NSSAI, the request is sent to the default AMF.

[0268] When the AMF selected by the AN during the registration procedure receives a UE registration request, or after AMF selection by the MME (i.e., during handover from EPS to 5GS), the AMF receives the S-NSSAI from the SMF+PGW-C in 5GC. -As part of the registration procedure described in TS 23.502 [3], subclause 4.2.2.2.2, or as part of a handover from EPS to 5GS using the N26 interface procedure described in subclause 4.11.1.2.2 in TS 23.502 [3], the AMF may query the UDM to obtain UE subscription information, including the subscription S-NSSAI. -The AMF checks whether the S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI or the S-NSSAI received from the SMF+PGW-C is allowed based on the subscription S-NSSAI (to identify the subscription S-NSSAI, the AMF may use a mapping to the HPLMN S-NSSAI provided by the UE in the NAS message for each S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI). -If the UE context in the AMF does not yet include an authorized NSSAI for the corresponding access type, the AMF queries the NSSF (see (B) below for further processing) unless the AMF is authorized (see (A) below for further processing) to determine whether the AMF can serve the UE based on the configuration in this AMF. The IP address or FQDN of the NSSF is configured locally in the AMF. NOTE 2: Configuration in AMF depends on operator policy. -If the UE context in the AMF already includes an authorized NSSAI for the corresponding access type, the AMF may be permitted to determine whether the AMF can provide service to the UE based on the configuration for this AMF (see (A) below for later processing). -The AMF or NSSF may have pre-subscribed to slice load level and / or observed service experience and / or dispersion analytics related network data analytics for a Network Slice from the NWDAF. If the AMF subscribes to the analysis, the AMF may determine that the AMF cannot serve the UE based on the received analysis (see (A) below). If the AMF subscribes to a Network Slice restriction notification service from the NSSF, the AMF may determine that the AMF cannot serve the UE after a restriction notification is received (see (A) below). If the AMF does not subscribe to the Network Slice Restriction Notification Service from the NSSF, the NSSF may take the analysis information into account when the AMF queries the NSSF (see (B) below). NOTE 3: Configuration in AMF depends on operator policy.

[0269] (A) Depending on satisfying the above-mentioned configuration, the AMF may be permitted to determine whether the AMF can provide service to the UE, and the following is performed: For mobility from EPS to 5GS, the AMF first derives the serving PLMN value of the S-NSSAI based on the HPLMN S-NSSAI in the mapping of the requested NSSAI (in the CM-IDLE state) or the HPLMN S-NSSAI received from the SMF+PGW-C (in the CM-CONNECTED state). The AMF then considers the derived value as the requested NSSAI. For inter PLMN 5GC mobility, the new AMF derives the serving PLMN value of the S-NSSAI based on the HPLMN S-NSSAI in the mapping of the requested NSSAI. The AMF then considers the derived value as the requested NSSAI. - The AMF checks whether it can serve all S-NSSAIs from the requested NSSAI that are present in the subscribed S-NSSAI (possibly using a configuration mapping S-NSSAI values between the HPLMN and the serving PLMN) or whether it can serve all S-NSSAIs marked as default in the subscribed S-NSSAI if the requested NSSAI was not provided or any S-NSSAI in the requested NSSAI is not allowed, i.e. does not match any of the subscribed S-NSSAIs or is not available in the current UE tracking area (see section 5.15.3). -If the AMF subscribes to network data analysis related to slice load levels and / or observed service experience and / or variance analysis on network slices from the NWDAF, or if the AMF receives network slice restrictions from the NSSF, the AMF may use that information to determine whether the AMF can serve the UE in the S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI. If the AMF can serve the S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI, the AMF remains the serving AMF for the UE. Then, the allowed NSSAI consists of the list of S-NSSAIs in the request NSSAI that are allowed based on the subscription S-NSSAI and / or the list of S-NSSAIs for serving PLMNs that are mapped to the HPLMN S-NSSAI provided in the mapping of the request NSSAI that are allowed based on the subscription S-NSSAI, taking into account the availability of network slice instances as described in clause 5.15.8 that can serve the S-NSSAI in the allowed NSSAI in the tracking area of the current UE in addition to any network slice instance restrictions for the S-NSSAI in the allowed NSSAI provided by the NSSF, or all S-NSSAIs marked as default in the subscription S-NSSAI if neither the request NSSAI nor the mapping of the request NSSAI was provided or none of the S-NSSAIs in the request NSSAI is allowed. If the AMF receives NSSRG information for the subscribed S-NSSAI as part of the UE subscription information, it includes in the Authorized NSSAI only S-NSSAIs whose all S-NSSAIs share a common NSSRG (see clause 5.15.x). The AMF also determines the mapping if the S-NSSAI included in the Authorized NSSAI needs to be mapped to the subscribed S-NSSAI value. If the Requested NSSAI is not provided, or if the mapping of the S-NSSAI in the Requested NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI is not correct, or if the Requested NSSAI contains an S-NSSAI that is not valid in the serving PLMN, or if the UE indicates that the Requested NSSAI is based on the default configured NSSAI, the AMF may also determine the association mapping of the configured NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI for the serving PLMN, if applicable, based on the subscribed S-NSSAI and the operator's configuration, so that these may be configured in the UE. Then, step (C) is performed. -If not, the AMF queries the NSSF (see (B) below).

[0270] (B) If required as described above, the AMF needs to query the NSSF and the following occurs: The AMF queries the NSSF for the requested NSSAI (if any, excluding the S-NSSAI that is the subject of the NSSA, which is in "Pending" state and is not yet in the allowed NSSAIs), the default configured NSSAI indication, the mapping of the requested NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI, the subscribed S-NSSAI (with an indication if marked as the default S-NSSAI), the NSSRG information (if provided by the UDM see clause 5.15.x), any allowed NSSAIs the AMF may have for other access types (including their mapping to the HPLMN S-NSSAI), the PLMN ID of the SUPI, and the current tracking area of the UE. Based on this information, local configuration, and other locally available information, including RAN capabilities in the current tracking area for the UE or load level information for network slice instances provided by the NWDAF, the NSSF: -NSSF checks which S-NSSAIs are allowed in the Request NSSAI based on the comparison of the Subscription S-NSSAI and the S-NSSAI in the mapping of the Request NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI. If the Request NSSAI was not provided or the S-NSSAI from the Request NSSAI is not allowed, i.e. not present in the Subscription S-NSSAI or not available, for example, in the current UE's tracking area, the NSSF considers the S-NSSAI marked as default in the Subscription S-NSSAI. If NSSRG information is provided, the NSSF selects only S-NSSAIs that share a common NSSRG (see clause 5.15.x). -If the AMF does not subscribe to a network slice instance restriction service from the NSSF and the NSSF subscribes to network data analysis related to slice load levels and / or observed service experience and / or variance analysis for network slices from the NWDAF, the NSSF may use the analysis information for determining the (network slice instance and its) list of S-NSSAIs in the allowed NSSAI to serve the UE. The NSSF selects a network slice instance to serve the UE. If multiple network slice instances in the UE's tracking area can serve a given S-NSSAI based on the operator's configuration, the NSSF may select one of the multiple network slice instances to serve the UE, or the NSSF may delay the selection of the network slice instance until a NF / service within the network slice instance needs to be selected. -The NSSF determines a target AMF set to be used to serve the UE, or determines a list of candidate AMFs based on the configuration, possibly after querying the NRF. NOTE 4: If the target AMF returned from the NSSF is a list of candidate AMFs, the registration request message may simply be redirected via direct signaling between the initial AMF and the selected target AMF as described in section 5.15.5.2.3. - The NSSF determines the allowed NSSAIs for the applicable access type, consisting of the list of S-NSSAIs in the request NSSAI that are allowed based on the subscription S-NSSAI and / or the list of S-NSSAIs for serving PLMNs that are mapped to the HPLMN S-NSSAIs provided in the mapping of the request NSSAI that are allowed based on the subscription S-NSSAI, or all S-NSSAIs marked as default in the subscription S-NSSAI if neither the request NSSAI nor the mapping of the request NSSAI is provided or none of the S-NSSAIs in the request NSSAI are allowed, also taking into account the availability of network slice instances as described in clause 5.15.8 that can serve the S-NSSAIs in the allowed NSSAIs in the tracking area of the current UE. If NSSRG information is applied, the NSSF selects only S-NSSAIs that share a common NSSRG (see clause 5.15.x). The NSSF also determines the mapping of each S-NSSAI of the allowed NSSAI to the subscription S-NSSAI, if necessary. Based on operator configuration, the NSSF may determine the NRF to be used to select NFs / services within the selected network slice instance. Additional processing determines the mapping for the Authorized NSSAI and the Subscribed S-NSSAI in roaming scenarios as described in section 5.15.6. -If the requested NSSAI is not provided, or if the requested NSSAI includes an S-NSSAI that is not valid in the serving PLMN, or if the mapping of the S-NSSAI in the requested NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI is not accurate, or if a default configured NSSAI indication is received from the AMF, the NSSF may also determine the configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN, if applicable, association mapping of the configured NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI based on the subscribed S-NSSAI and operator configuration, which may be configured in the UE. -The NSSF returns a list of candidate AMFs to the current AMF based on the allowed NSSAIs for the applicable access type, the mapping of each S-NSSAI of the allowed NSSAI to the subscribed S-NSSAI, if determined, and the target AMF set or configuration. The NSSF may return the NRF used to select the NF / service in the selected network slice instance and the NRF used to determine the list of candidate AMFs from the AMF set. The NSSF may return the NSI ID associated with the network slice instance corresponding to the particular S-NSSAI. The NSSF may return a rejected S-NSSAI as described in clause 5.15.4.1. The NSSF may return the configured NSSAI for the serving PLMN, the association mapping of the configured NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI. Depending on the available information, based on the configuration, the AMF may query an appropriate NRF (e.g., pre-configured locally or provided by the NSSF) for a target AMF set. The NRF returns a list of candidate AMFs. If AMF re-allocation is required, the current AMF re-routes the registration request or transfers the UE context to the target serving AMF as described in section 5.15.5.2.3. - Step (C) is performed.

[0271] (C) The serving AMF determines a registration area such that all S-NSSAIs of the authorized NSSAIs for this registration area are available in all tracking areas of the registration area (taking into account other aspects as described in clause 5.3.2.3) and returns the authorized NSSAIs, if provided, a mapping of the authorized NSSAIs to the subscribed S-NSSAI to the UE. The AMF may return a rejected S-NSSAI as described in clause 5.15.4.1.

[0272] Note 5: The S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI for non-3GPP access is uniformly available in the PLMN for the N3IWF case. For other types of non-3GPP access, the S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI for non-3GPP access may not be uniformly available across all PLMNs, e.g., different W-AGFs may support different TAIs supporting different network slices.

[0273] If the Request NSSAI was not included, or if the mapping of the S-NSSAI in the Request NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI is not accurate, or if the Request NSSAI is not considered valid in the PLMN and therefore at least one S-NSSAI in the Request NSSAI is rejected as not usable by the UE in the PLMN, or if the UE indicates that the Request NSSAI is based on a default configured NSSAI, the AMF may update the UE slice configuration information for the PLMN as described in section 5.15.4.2.

[0274] If the Requested NSSAI does not include an S-NSSAI mapped to the S-NSSAI of the HHPLMN that is the subject of network slice specific authentication authorization and the AMF determines that it cannot provide an S-NSSAI in the Authorized NSSAI for the UE in the current UE tracking area, and if it cannot add a default S-NSSAI as described in step (A), the AMF rejects the UE registration and includes a list of rejected S-NSSAIs in the rejection message, each of which is accompanied by an appropriate rejection cause value.

[0275] If the requested NSSAI includes an S-NSSAI that is mapped to an S-NSSAI of an HPLMN that is the subject of network slice specific authentication authorization, the AMF includes in the registration acceptance message an authorized NSSAI that includes only S-NSSAIs that are not the subject of network slice specific authentication authorization and S-NSSAIs for which network slice specific authentication authorization for at least one of the corresponding HPLMN S-NSSAIs based on the UE context in the AMF, if any, was previously successful regardless of the access type.

[0276] The AMF also provides a list of rejected S-NSSAIs, each with an appropriate rejection cause value. The S-NSSAIs mapped to the S-NSSAIs of the HPLMNs that are the subject of an ongoing network slice specific authentication grant are in "pending" state in the AMF and are included in the reserved NSSAI. The reserved NSSAI may include a mapping of the S-NSSAI for the serving PLMN to the HPLMN S-NSSAI, if applicable. The UE should not include any of the S-NSSAIs from the reserved NSSAIs that it stores in the Requested NSSAI, regardless of the access type.

[0277] If all S-NSSAIs in the requesting NSSAI are still subject to network slice-specific authentication authorization, or If the request NSSAI was not provided or none of the S-NSSAIs in the request NSSAI match any of the subscribed S-NSSAIs, and all S-NSSAIs marked as default in the subscribed S-NSSAI are subject to network slice specific authentication authorization, The AMF provides an empty Authorization NSSAI to the UE in the Registration Accept message. Upon receiving the empty Authorization NSSAI, the UE registers in the PLMN but awaits completion of network slice specific authentication authorization without attempting to use any services provided by the PLMN in any access, except for, for example, emergency services (see TS 24.501

[47] ), until the UE receives the Authorization NSSAI.

[0278] Then, the AMF initiates the network slice-specific authentication authorization procedure as described in clause 5.15.10 for each S-NSSAI that requires the network slice-specific authentication authorization procedure based on the network policy, except for S-NSSAIs for which a network slice-specific authentication authorization has already been initiated in another access type for the same S-NSSAI. At the end of the network slice-specific authentication authorization step, the AMF provides the UE with new authorized NSSAIs, including the S-NSSAIs that are the subject of the network slice-specific authentication authorization for which the authentication authorization is successful, by a UE configuration update procedure. The AMF may perform AMF selection when the NSSAA for the S-NSSAIs subject to the S-NSSAIs in the "pending" state is completed. If an AMF change is required, this is triggered by the AMF using a UE configuration update procedure indicating that UE re-registration is required. The S-NSSAIs that were not successfully authorized are not included in the authorized NSSAIs, but are included in the list of rejected S-NSSAIs with a reject cause value indicating a network slice-specific authentication authorization failure.

[0279] If, upon completing the network slice specific authentication authorization procedure, the AMF determines that it cannot provide an S-NSSAI in the authorized NSSAI for a UE that is already successfully authorized by the PLMN, and if it was not possible to add a default S-NSSAI as described in step (A), the AMF shall perform the network-initiated deregistration procedure as described in TS 23.502 [3], clause 4.2.2.3.3, and include a list of rejected S-NSSAIs in the explicit deregistration request message, each of which is accompanied by an appropriate rejection cause value.

[0280] If the S-NSSAI is rejected with a rejection cause value indicating a network slice-specific authentication authorization failure or revocation, the UE may attempt to request the S-NSSAI again based on a policy locally at the UE.

[0281] <5.15.6 Network slicing support for roaming> Regarding roaming scenarios, -If the UE uses only standard S-NSSAI values, the same S-NSSAI value as in the HPLMN may be used in the VPLMN. -If the VPLMN and HPLMN have an SLA to support non-standard S-NSSAI values in the VPLMN, the NSSF of the VPLMN maps the subscribed S-NSSAI values to the respective S-NSSAI values used in the VPLMN. The S-NSSAI value used in the VPLMN is determined by the NSSF of the VPLMN based on the SLA. The NSSF of the VPLMN does not need to inform the HPLMN which value is used in the VPLMN. Depending on the operator's policy and the configuration in the AMF, the AMF may determine the S-NSSAI value used in the VPLMN and the mapping to the subscribed S-NSSAI. The UE configures the Request NSSAI as described in clause 5.15.5.2.1 and provides a mapping of the S-NSSAI of the Request NSSAI to the HPLMN S-NSSAI if the mapping is stored in the UE. - The NSSF in the VPLMN determines the authorized NSSAI without interacting with the HPLMN. The HPLMN may provide NSSRG information as part of the subscription information as described in section 5.15.x. The allowed NSSAI in the registration authorization contains the S-NSSAI value used in the VPLMN. As described in subclause 5.15.4, the above mapping information is also provided to the UE together with the allowed NSSAI. In the PDU session establishment procedure, the UE (a) the S-NSSAI that matches the application (triggering the PDU session request) in the NSSP or in the UE local configuration in the URSP rules as defined in clause 6.1.2.2.1 of TS 23.503

[45] (the value of this S-NSSAI is used in the HPLMN), and (b) Includes both the S-NSSAI that belongs to the authorized NSSAI that is mapped in (a) using the mapping of authorized NSSAI to HPLMN S-NSSAI (the value of this S-NSSAI is used in the VPLMN). For the home routed case, the V-SMF sends a PDU Session Establishment Request message to the H-SMF with an S-NSSAI having the value used in the HPLMN(a). -Once the PDU session is established, the CN provides the AN with an S-NSSAI having a value from the VPLMN corresponding to this PDU session, as described in section 5.15.5.3. -Network slice instance specific network functions in the VPLMN are selected by the VPLMN by querying an NRF pre-configured or provided by the NSSF in the VPLMN using an S-NSSAI with the value used in the VPLMN. Network slice specific functions in the HPLMN (if applicable) are selected by the VPLMN by using the associated S-NSSAI with the value used in the HPLMN via support from the appropriate NRF in the HPLMN, identified as specified in clause 4.17.5 of TS 23.502 [3] for the SMF in clause 4.3.2.2.3.3 of TS 23.502 [3].

[0282] <Support for subscription-based limits on concurrent registrations of 5.15.x network slices> <5.15.x.1 General remarks> The subscription information for the UE may include, for each S-NSSAI, network slice simultaneous registration group (NSSRG) information that restricts the S-NSSAIs that can be simultaneously provided to the UE in the allowed NSSAI.

[0283] Two S-NSSAIs that share at least one NSSRG may be included in the authorized NSSAIs at the same time, otherwise these S-NSSAIs may not be included in the authorized NSSAIs at the same time.

[0284] The NSSRG information defining the association of the S-NSSAI to the NSSRG is provided as additional separate information.

[0285] If the optional NSSRG information is not present for the S-NSSAI of a subscription and no other restrictions apply, such as availability in a specific location, it is assumed that all S-NSSAIs in the subscription information may be provided to the UE simultaneously in the authorized NSSAI. However, if the NSSRG information is present in the subscription information, at least one NSSRG is associated with each of the S-NSSAIs in the subscription information. At any time, if the AMF receives subscription information for a UE that includes NSSRG information, the authorized NSSAIs for the UE may include only the S-NSSAIs that share a common NSSRG.

[0286] If multiple default S-NSSAIs exist, they are associated with the same NSSRG, i.e., the UE is always allowed to register to all default S-NSSAIs simultaneously. The HPLMN sends only S-NSSAIs that share all NSSRGs of the default S-NSSAI to the non-supporting VPLMN as part of the subscription information, i.e., the HPLMN may send any other subscribed S-NSSAIs that share at least all NSSRGs defined for the default S-NSSAI in addition to the default S-NSSAI, and the HPLMN does not send NSSRG information to the VPLMN. The subscription information including NSSRG information includes at least one default S-NSSAI.

[0287] When the supporting AMF / NSSF receives the requested NSSAI, it evaluates the S-NSSAI of the HPLMN (in the mapping information of the requested NSSAI, if the mapping information is applicable) based on any received NSSRG information for the S-NSSAI to determine whether the S-NSSAI can be provided together in the allowed NSSAI.

[0288] Note: An HPLMN that enables support of subscription-based restrictions on concurrent registration of network slices for a subscriber may have the subscribed S-NSSAI already configured in the subscription information before the NSSRG information is added to the subscription information, and have the same NSSRG value as defined for the default S-NSSAI if the HPLMN needs to continue to support the same service behavior for that S-NSSAI.

[0289] <5.15.x.2 UE and UE configuration> The UE may support subscription-based restriction on concurrent registration of the network slice feature. In this case, the UE indicates its support in the registration request message in the initial registration and mobility registration update. The supporting AMF stores in the UE context whether the UE indicates support for the feature.

[0290] If the serving PLMN AMF provides the configured NSSAI to the UE and indicates that the UE supports subscription-based restriction on concurrent registration of network slicing capabilities, the AMF also provides the UE with NSSRG information for the S-NSSAI of the HPLMN in the mapping information of the configured NSSAI. A UE that receives an NSSRG value in the network slicing configuration information includes only the S-NSSAI that shares a common NSSRG according to the received information in the Requested NSSAI. If the HPLMN changes the NSSRG information in the subscription information for the UE, the UDM updates the supporting AMF serving the UE with the new NSSRG information, and the AMF updates the UE as necessary with the network slicing configuration by a UE configuration update procedure, which may include changes to the configured NSSAI (and related mapping information) and changes to the applicable allowed NSSAI. The UE acknowledges this UE configuration update according to clause 4.2.4.2 in TS 23.502 [3].

[0291] An AMF supporting subscription-based restriction on concurrent registrations of network slicing functions configures a non-supporting UE with a configured NSSAI that contains only compatible S-NSSAIs, unless the AMF is instructed otherwise by the UDM. In addition to the default S-NSSAI, the AMF sends to the UE in the configured NSSAI any other subscribed S-NSSAIs that match at least what the NSSRG defines for the default S-NSSAI.

[0292] The UDM in the supporting HPLMN may optionally maintain a record of PEI or Type Allocation Codes relating to the UE's capability to process network slices that cannot be simultaneously provided in the allowed NSSAI.

[0293] The UDM may indicate to the AMF to provide a complete set of subscribed S-NSSAIs to a non-supporting UE based on configuration or optional PEI record, even if the subscribed S-NSSAIs do not share a common NSSRG. The UDM instructs the supporting AMF of the PLMN to do so by indicating that the UE can be given a configured NSSAI with all S-NSSAIs in the subscription information.

[0294] Based on that policy (which may include configuration or optionally confirm the specific PEI or type assigned code used by the UE and subject to the roaming agreement), the UDM may also provide all S-NSSAIs in the subscription information to the serving AMF in the non-supporting VPLMN. In this case, the AMF provides the UE with the configured NSSAIs that include all S-NSSAIs in the subscription information that the AMF receives.

[0295] The AMF does not provide NSSRG information to non-supporting UEs.

[0296] If an AMF supporting subscription-based restriction on concurrent registration of network slicing functions receives a requested NSSAI from a supporting UE including an S-NSSAI that is supported in the tracking area but does not share a common NSSRG, the AMF assumes that the UE configuration is not up to date and provides the UE with an updated configuration including the latest NSSRG information for the S-NSSAI in the configured NSSAI as described above.

[0297] <5.15.x.2 UE and UE configuration when the UE is accessing 3GPP access and non-3GPP access> When the UE receives an NSSRG policy in one access type (e.g., a 3GPP access type), the UE applies the NSSRG policy to another access type (e.g., a non-3GPP access type). In addition, the network sends an indication in the registration accept message in the access type indicating whether the UE applies the NSSRG policy for NAS or AS procedures in one access type regardless of another access type. If the network indicates that the UE applies the NSSRG policy for NAS or AS procedures in one access type regardless of the NSSRG policy in the other access type, the S-NSSAI in the request NSSAI of one access type is independent of the allowed NSSAI of the other access type according to the NSSRG policy, i.e., the request NSSAI in one access type may include an S-NSSAI that does not share a common NSSRG with the S-NSSAI of the allowed NSSAI in the second access type.
