To provide an image forming apparatus that has improved operability during maintenance compared with a configuration in which an operator supports a light emitting unit.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an image holding body that rotates, has an image formed on its outer peripheral surface, and is movable in a rotation axis direction between an image forming position and a maintenance position; a light emitting unit that has a substrate extending in the rotation axis direction of the image holding body and a plurality of light emitting devices arranged on the substrate and irradiating the outer peripheral surface of the image holding body with light, and moves in the rotation axis direction together with the image holding body; and a support unit that moves in the rotation axis direction together with the image holding body, and supports the light emitting unit in a state where the image holding body and the light emitting unit move to the maintenance position and in a state where the positioning of the light emitting unit relative to the image holding body is released.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
