Abstract

To provide an extendable / retractable writing instrument having a new extendable / retractable mechanism.SOLUTION: An extendable / retractable writing instrument 1 includes: a barrel 3; a knock cam 30; a rotor 40 biased rearward in the barrel 3; and an outer cam 20 provided on an inner surface of the barrel 3. The knock cam 30 and the outer cam 20 are configured to cooperate with the rotor 40 to rotate the rotor 40. The extendable / retractable writing instrument 1 may switch its state between a writing state in which the rotor 40 and the outer cam 20 are engaged and a non-writing state in which the engagement between the rotor 40 and the outer cam 20 is released. When the knock cam 30 is moved forward, the knock cam 30 presses the rotor 40 to cause the rotor 40 to move forward and rotate. The rotor 40 is restricted from rotating by contact with the knock cam 30 in a circumferential direction to engage with the outer cam 20 and thereby bring the extendable / retractable writing instrument 1 into the writing state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
