Abstract

This invention presents two processes: the preparation of magnetite nanofibers (MNFs) composites and their application in secondary wastewater treatment under an intense magnetic field. The MNFs composites are synthesized using an electrospinning technique with a working distance of 15 cm and an applied voltage of 5-8 kV. The wastewater treatment process employs optimal conditions, including a contact time of 30-45 minutes, an MNF concentration of 0.8- 1 g / L, a pH range of 6-8, and a stirring rate of 150-200 rpm. Under these conditions, coupling with a magnetic field of 0.5-1 T achieves significant reductions of 92% in Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and 93% in Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). In contrast, treatment without a magnetic field results in lower reductions of 74% for COD and 75% for BOD. The fibrous structure of the magnetite nanoparticles enhances the treatment efficiency by providing a larger surface area for pollutant removal.
