The term “physical random access channel repetition” used herein may refer to one or more retransmissions of the random access request.
[0054] As mentioned above, it is worth further studying the multiple PRACH transmissions. For example, it proposes the following PRACH coverage enhancements: multiple PRACH transmissions with a same beam (synchronization signal physical broadcast channel (SSB) index) for 4-step RACH procedure. However, latency for RO group for the multiple PRACH transmission may be high. For example, as shown in FIG. 1A, RO group 7 has higher latency than RO group 1-6 as an example of multiple PRACH transmission with four repetitions. Further, as shown in FIG. 1B, as an example, for SSB#2 and SSB#3, there are 8 RO (s) could be ordered in frequency domain with order index 1 in an association period, but for SSB#1, there are only 7 RO (s) with order index 1.When multiple PRACH transmissions with eight repetitions are used, frequency domain ordered based RO group mapping may cause misalignment between RO group for SSB#1 and RO group for SSB#2 and SSB#3, i.e. RO groups for SSB#1 is shifted. Therefore, solutions on multiple PRACH transmissions are needed.
[0055] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.
[0056] FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. In the communication environment 100, a plurality of communication devices, including a terminal device 110 and a network device 120, can communicate with each other.
[0057] In the example of FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 may be a UE and the network device 120 may be a base station serving the UE. The serving area of the network device 120 may be called a cell 102.
[0058] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections shown in FIG. 2 are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of devices configured to implementing example embodiments of the present disclosure. Although not shown, it would be appreciated that one or more additional devices may be located in the cell 102, and one or more additional cells may be deployed in the communication environment 100. It is noted that although illustrated as a network device, the network device 120 may be another device than a network device. Although illustrated as a terminal device, the terminal device 110 may be other device than a terminal device.
[0059] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are described with the terminal device 110 operating as a UE and the network device 120 operating as a base station. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.
[0060] In some example embodiments, if the terminal device 110 is a terminal device and the network device 120 is a network device, a link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , while a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .
[0061] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.
[0062] Reference is made to FIG. 3, which illustrates a signaling flow 300 of multiple PRACH transmissions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 300 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 2, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.
[0063] The network device 120 transmits (3010) a configuration indicating a plurality of physical random access channel occasions (ROs) to the terminal device 110. In other words, the terminal device 110 receives the configuration indicating the plurality of ROs from the network device 120.
[0064] In some embodiments, for a plurality of PRACH transmissions with same Tx beam (i.e., same SSB index) , the RO group may be assumed for the plurality of PRACH transmissions with separate preambles on shared ROs and / or multiple PRACH transmissions on separate ROs. One RO group may include valid RO (s) for a specific number of multiple PRACH transmissions. In some embodiments, all ROs in one RO group may be associated with the same SSB(s) . The term “shared or separate RO” used herein may refer to that RO is shared or separated with a signal PRACH transmission. The term “shared or separate preamble” used herein may refer to that the preamble is shared or separated with a signal PRACH transmission.
[0065] In some embodiments, for multiple PRACH transmissions with the same beam, the terminal device 110 may utilize at least RO located at different time instances for the transmissions. In some embodiments, multiple PRACH transmissions within one RACH attempt located at same time instance may include multiple PRACH transmissions in FDMed ROs located at the same time instance and multiple PRACH transmissions with different preambles in the same RO. In addition, multiple PRACH transmissions within one RACH attempt may be only performed within one RO group.
[0066] In some embodiments, the number of valid ROs in the RO group may be equal to one of the configured numbers of multiple PRACH transmissions. For example, if only one value is configured for multiple PRACH transmissions, the number of valid ROs in the RO group may be equal to this value. Alternatively, if multiple values are configured for multiple PRACH transmissions, for each value, the number of valid ROs in the RO group may be equal to the corresponding number of multiple PRACH transmissions.
[0067] In some embodiments, the number of the plurality of PRACH transmissions may be explicitly configured by the network device 120, for example, {2, 4, 8} . The number of ROs within one RO group can be implicitly determined by the terminal device 120 accordingly. For example, if the number of the plurality of PRACH transmissions is 4, the terminal device 120 may determine that the number of the ROs within on RO group may be 4.
[0068] In some embodiments, a set of RO group (s) for a configured number of multiple PRACH transmissions may be determined / configured within a time period X, starting from frame 0. The determined / configured set of RO groups may repeat every time period X. In this case, the time period X may be K SSB-to-RO association pattern periods, where K is configured by the network device 120 or determined by the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the number of SSB-to-RO association pattern periods K within the time period X, may down select from the following options: (1) K is explicitly configured; (2) K is implicitly determined; and (3) K is a fixed value for all number of multiple PRACH transmissions.
[0069] Alternatively, or in addition, the terminal device 110 may determine a starting RO for each RO group for each value of the number of multiple PRACH transmissions. For example, an index of the starting RO of the RO group is explicitly indicated. Alternatively, the time start position and the frequency start position of the first valid RO for each RO group may be implicitly determined by the terminal device 110.
[0070] In some example embodiments, SS / PBCH block indexes provided by ssb-PositionsInBurst in SIB1 or in ServingCellConfigCommon may be mapped to valid PRACH occasions in the following order: -First, in increasing order of preamble indexes within a single PRACH occasion; -Second, in increasing order of frequency resource indexes for frequency multiplexed PRACH occasions; -Third, in increasing order of time resource indexes for time multiplexed PRACH occasions within a PRACH slot; and -Fourth, in increasing order of indexes for PRACH slots.
[0071] An association period, starting from frame 0, for mapping SS / PBCH block indexes to PRACH occasions may be the smallest value in the set determined by the PRACH configuration period according Table 8.1-1 in Technical specification (TS 38.211) such that N_Tx^SSB SS / PBCH block indexes are mapped at least once to the PRACH occasions within the association period, where the terminal device 110 obtains N_Tx^SSB from the value of ssb-PositionsInBurst in SIB1 or in ServingCellConfigCommon. If after an integer number of SS / PBCH block indexes to PRACH occasions mapping cycles within the association period there is a set of PRACH occasions or PRACH preambles that are not mapped to N_Tx^SSB SS / PBCH block indexes, no SS / PBCH block indexes may be mapped to the set of PRACH occasions or PRACH preambles. An association pattern period may include one or more association periods and may be determined so that a pattern between PRACH occasions and SS / PBCH block indexes repeats at most every 160 msec. PRACH occasions not associated with SS / PBCH block indexes after an integer number of association periods, if any, may be not used for PRACH transmissions.
[0072] The PRACH occasions may be mapped consecutively per corresponding SS / PBCH block index. The indexing of the PRACH occasion indicated by a mask index value is reset per mapping cycle of consecutive PRACH occasions per SS / PBCH block index. The terminal device 110 may select for a PRACH transmission the PRACH occasion indicated by PRACH mask index value for the indicated SS / PBCH block index in the first available mapping cycle. For the indicated preamble index, the ordering of the PRACH occasions may be: -First, in increasing order of frequency resource indexes for frequency multiplexed PRACH occasions; -Second, in increasing order of time resource indexes for time multiplexed PRACH occasions within a PRACH slot; and -Third, in increasing order of indexes for PRACH slots.
[0073] For a PRACH transmission triggered upon request by higher layers, a value of ra-OccasionList (which is defined in TS 38.331) , if csirs-ResourceList is provided, may indicate a list of PRACH occasions for the PRACH transmission where the PRACH occasions are associated with the selected CSI-RS index indicated by csi-RS. The indexing of the PRACH occasions indicated by ra-OccasionList may be reset per association pattern period. The terminal device 110 may determine a next available PRACH occasion from the PRACH occasions corresponding to the selected SSB permitted by the restrictions given by the ra-ssb-OccasionMaskIndex if configured, or ssb-SharedRO-MaskIndex if configured, or indicated by PDCCH (the MAC entity may select a PRACH occasion randomly with equal probability amongst the consecutive PRACH occasions according to clause 8.1 of TS 38.213 regardless the FR2 UL gap, corresponding to the selected SSB; the MAC entity may take into account the possible occurrence of measurement gaps and MUSIM gaps when determining the next available PRACH occasion corresponding to the selected SSB) .
[0074] The terminal device 110 may be configured with the plurality of ROs shown in FIG. 4A. Only the order in time domain and frequency domain for a SSB can be abstracted in FIG. 4A. It does not present the real resources in time and frequency domain. As shown in FIG. 4A, the ROs are labelled with numbers. For example, if two numbers are used to label the ROs, RO (s) with the same first number may belong to same RO group and the second number is the order of RO to be selected in the RO group.
[0075] The terminal device 110 determines (3020) one or more available RO groups from the plurality of ROs. An available RO may be not selected for the RO group previously. That is, the one or more available ROs may not be selected for the RO group before. For the purpose of illustrations, the number of ROs in one RO group may be 4. The terminal device 110 performs (3030) a PRACH repetition based on the RO group. In other words, the network device 120 receives the PRACH repletion based on the RO group. Embodiments of determination of the one or more RO groups are described below.
[0076] The terminal device 110 may select (3020) one or more available ROs in a time period from the plurality of ROs (for example, RO 40) as a RO group. The time period may be the above mentioned time period X. The selection (3020) may be based on an increasing order of resource indexes of the plurality of physical random access channel occasions.
[0077] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may select the one or more available ROs by the following sequence: in an increasing order of frequency domain resource indexes for frequency multiplexed ROs; in an increasing order of time domain resource indexes for time multiplexed ROs; and in an increasing order of indexes for slots for the plurality of ROs. The frequency multiplexed physical random access channel occasions may be selected once for the physical random access channel occasion group. For example, the selection order of the available PRACH occasions may be: first, in increasing order of frequency resource indexes for frequency multiplexed PRACH occasions that only select once for this RO group; second, in increasing order of time resource indexes for time multiplexed PRACH occasions within a PRACH slot; and third, in increasing order of indexes for PRACH slots.
[0078] For example, as shown in FIG. 4B, the terminal device 110 may first select the ROs 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-3 as a first RO group. The terminal device 110 may then select the ROs 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and 2-4 as a second RO group. The terminal device 110 may further select the ROs 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 and 3-4 as a third RO group. Similarly, the ROs 4-1, 4-2, 4-3 and 4-4 may be selected a fourth RO group, the ROs 5-1, 5-2, 5-3 and 5-4 may be selected as a fifth RO group, the ROs 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4 may be selected as a sixth RO group, and the ROs 7-1, 7-2, 7-3 and 7-4 may be selected as a seventh RO group. The maximum latency for each RO group may be 6 time unit. In this case, if the terminal device 110 may select the second RO group, the terminal device 110 may perform (3030) the PRACH repetition on the ROs 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and 2-4. For example, the terminal device 110 may transmit a random access request (i.e., a preamble) on one or more of the ROs 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and 2-4.
[0079] In some embodiments, if a sum of the number of remaining available ROs and the number of selected one or more available ROs is less than a threshold number, the terminal device 110 may abandon the selected one or more available ROs. For example, if N RO (s) can be selected, the N RO (s) may be regarded as a RO group. Otherwise, if there are not enough ROs to be selected, the terminal device 110 may abandon or discard the selected RO (s) , where N is the number of RO (s) in a RO group (i.e., N is 4 in this embodiment) . In some other embodiments, the terminal device 110 may continue to select at least one available RO for a subsequent RO group, until no subsequent RO group is able to be selected.
[0080] In some embodiments, the plurality of ROs may be divided into a first set and a second set. The terminal device 110 may select (3020) one or more available ROs in the first set as a physical random access channel occasion group. The selection may be based on an order of resource indexes of the plurality of physical random access channel occasions. It is noted that the first set and the second set may include any proper numbers of ROs, respectively. The number of ROs in the first set may be the same or different from the number of ROs in the second set.
[0081] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may select the one or more available physical random access channel occasions by the following sequence: in a decreasing order of the number of frequency resources; in an increasing order of frequency domain resource indexes for frequency multiplexed physical random access channel occasions; in an increasing order of time domain resource indexes for time multiplexed physical random access channel occasions; and in an increasing order of indexes for slots for the plurality of physical random access channel occasions. The frequency multiplexed physical random access channel occasions may be selected once for the physical random access channel occasion group. For example, the selection order of the available PRACH occasions may be: first, in decreasing order of the number of frequency resources; second, in increasing order of frequency resource indexes for frequency multiplexed PRACH occasions that only select once for this RO group; third, in increasing order of time resource indexes for time multiplexed PRACH occasions within a PRACH slot; and fourth, in increasing order of indexes for PRACH slots.
[0082] In some embodiments, if a sum of the number of remaining available physical random access channel occasions and the number of selected one or more available physical random access channel occasions is less than a threshold number, the terminal device 110 may abandon the selected one or more available physical random access channel occasions. For example, if N RO (s) can be selected, the N RO (s) may become a RO group. Otherwise, if there are not enough ROs to be selected, the terminal device 110 may abandon the selected RO (s) , where N is the number of RO (s) in a RO group.
[0083] The terminal device 110 may continue to select one or more ROs for a next RO group in the first set until no RO group can be selected. In an example embodiment, if there is no available RO left in the first set, the terminal device 110 may continue to select at least one available RO for a subsequent RO group in the second set.
[0084] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine a first period for a SSB from a first available RO with an index a in the second set to the available physical random access channel occasion with index a+N-1 in the second set. In this case, a can be an integer number and N may represent a maximum number of frequency resources for the SSB times the number of available ROs in the available RO group.
[0085] FIG. 5A illustrates a schematic diagram of PRACH occasions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 5A, the plurality of ROs 51 may be divided into the first set 505 and the second set 510. The first set 505 and the second set 510 may include the same number of ROs. The terminal device 110 may first select the ROs 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-3 as a first RO group. The terminal device 110 may then select the ROs 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and 2-4 as a second RO group. The terminal device 110 may further select the ROs 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 and 3-4 as a third RO group. After there is no RO left in the first set 505, the terminal device 110 may further select ROs 4-1, 4-2, 4-3 and 4-4 as a fourth RO group. Further the ROs 5-1, 5-2, 5-3 and 5-4 may be selected as a fifth RO group, the ROs 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4 may be selected as a sixth RO group. The maximum latency for each RO group in FIG. 5A may be 5 time unit.
[0086] FIG. 5B illustrates a schematic diagram of PRACH occasions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 5B, the plurality of ROs 52 may be divided into the first set 520 and the second set 525. The first set 520 and the second set 525 may include the different numbers of ROs. After there is no RO left in the first set 520, the terminal device 110 may further select ROs 4-1, 4-2, 4-3 and 4-4 as a fourth RO group. Further the ROs 5-1, 5-2, 5-3 and 5-4 may be selected as a fifth RO group, the ROs 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4 may be selected as a sixth RO group. The ROs 7-1, 7-2, 7-3 and 7-4 may also be selected as a seventh RO group. The maximum latency for each RO group in the first set 520 may be 5 time unit and the maximum latency for each RO group in the second set 525 may be 6 time unit.
[0087] FIG. 5C illustrates a schematic diagram of PRACH occasions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 5C, the plurality of ROs 53 may be divided into the first set 530 and the second set 535. In other words, the first set 530 is the same as the second set 535. The terminal device 110 may further select ROs 4-1, 4-2, 4-3 and 4-4 as a fourth RO group. The maximum latency for the first RO group (including the ROs 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-3) may be 10 time unit and the maximum latency for other RO groups may be 4 time unit.
[0088] Reference is made to FIG. 6, which illustrates a signaling flow 600 of multiple PRACH transmissions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 600 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 2, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.
[0089] The network device 120 may transmit a configuration indicating a plurality of physical random access channel occasions (ROs) to the terminal device 110. In other words, the terminal device 110 receives the configuration indicating the plurality of ROs from the network device 120. The terminal device 110 may further obtain a plurality of RO groups based on the plurality of ROs.
[0090] The terminal device 110 may determine that a random access request (i.e., a message 1 including a preamble) is to be transmitted. In this case, the terminal device 110 selects (6010) , from the plurality of ROs, one or more RO groups that have an earliest ending physical random access channel occasion among the plurality of RO groups.
[0091] The terminal device 110 determines (6020) a target RO group from the one or more RO groups. For example, the terminal device 110 may select the next available RO group which has the earliest ending RO (index) after the terminal device 110 can prepare a message 1 transmission.
[0092] The terminal device 110 transmits (6030) a random access request based on the target physical random access channel occasion group to the network device 120. In other words, the network device 120 may receive the random access request based on the target physical random access channel occasion group from the terminal device 110.
[0093] In some embodiments, the one or more physical random access channel occasion groups may have the same time of an ending physical random access channel occasion. Alternatively, the one or more physical random access channel occasion groups may have consecutive random access channel occasion indexes of the ending physical random access channel occasion. For example, the MAC entity of the terminal device 110 may select a PRACH occasion randomly with equal probability amongst the RO groups which have the same time of the ending RO in the RO groups or have consecutive RO index of the ending RO in the RO groups. In this way, it can determine the transmission resource on RO group level. Meanwhile, it can reduce access latency to select available RO group based on the ending RO of the RO group.
[0094] FIG. 7 illustrates a schematic diagram of RO groups in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, as shown in FIG. 7, the PRACH repetition number may be two, i.e., there are two ROs in each RO group. When the terminal device 110 prepares the message 1 for SSB 1 before the time point 710, the terminal device 110 may first find the next available RO group that are ROG#1, ROG#2 and ROG#3 with the same ending time. In this case, the terminal device 110 may select one RO among three RO groups randomly.
[0095] Alternatively, when the terminal device 110 prepares the message 1 for SSB 2 before the time point 710, the terminal device 110 may first find the next available RO group that are ROG#1, ROG#2 with the same ending time. In this case, the terminal device 110 may select one RO among two RO groups randomly.
[0096] In some other embodiments, when the terminal device 110 prepares the message 1 for SSB 1 before the time point 720, the terminal device 110 may first find the next available RO group that are ROG#6 with the same ending time. In this case, the terminal device 110 may select only ROG#6.
[0097] In some embodiments, when the terminal device 110 prepares the message 1 for SSB 2 before the time point 720, the terminal device 110 may first find the next available RO group that are ROG#6, ROG#7 and ROG#8 with the same ending time. In this case, the terminal device 110 may select among three RO groups randomly.
[0098] Reference is made to FIG. 8, which illustrates a signaling flow 800 of multiple PRACH transmissions in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 800 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 2, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.
[0099] The network device 120 transmits (8005) a configuration indicating a plurality of physical random access channel occasions (ROs) to the terminal device 110. In other words, the terminal device 110 receives the configuration indicating the plurality of ROs from the network device 120. The terminal device 110 may further obtain a plurality of RO groups based on the plurality of ROs.
[0100] The terminal device 110 may determine that a random access request (i.e., a message 1 including a preamble) is to be transmitted. In this case, the terminal device 110 selects (8020) , from a plurality of ROs, a RO that is the first RO in a RO group. For example, the terminal device 110 may select the next available PRACH occasion which is the first RO of a RO group after the terminal device 110 can prepare the message 1 transmission when multiple PRACH repetition / (re) transmission is configured or selected by the terminal device 110. The MAC entity of the terminal device 110 may select a PRACH occasion randomly with equal probability amongst the consecutive PRACH occasions, where the selected PRACH occasion shall be the first RO of a RO group when multiple PRACH repetition / (re) transmission is configured or selected by the terminal device 110.
[0101] FIG. 9 illustrates a schematic diagram of RO groups in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, as shown in FIG. 9, PRACH repetition number is two, i.e. there are two RO (s) in each RO group. When the terminal device 110 prepares the message 1 on SSB#0 at the time point 910, the terminal device 110 may first find the next available RO of RO#3 and RO#4. However, they are not the first RO in a RO group. Then, the terminal device 110 may find the next available RO of RO#1 and RO#2 which both are the first RO of RO group 920. Since RO#1 and RO#2 in the RO group 920 are consecutive RO (s) in a mapping cycle, the terminal device 110 may select one of them randomly. In this way, it can determine the transmitted RO already based on the lowest latency principle by selecting the next available RO and highest multiplexing ability principle by randomly selecting amongst consecutive RO (s) . Further, using the available of first RO in the RO group to present the available of RO group can reuse the current implementation procedures which could reduce the device complexity. In such way, the selected RO group can also have less PRACH access latency and more multiplexing ability.
[0102] In some embodiments, the mask / restriction information may be indicated per RO group. In some embodiments, the mask / restriction information may be indicated per RO for better multiplexing. When the RO group is used for transmission, mask / restriction information is not workable. On the other hand, the terminal device 110 may also be indicated the mask information since single PRACH transmission without repetition may be used by the terminal device 110 based on RSRP mechanism.
[0103] In some other embodiments, if the plurality of PRACH transmissions is configured or selected by the terminal device 110, the terminal device 110 may ignore mask (or restriction) information to select the RO group. In this way, ignoring mask / restriction information can reduce implementation complexity.
[0104] Alternatively, if the plurality of PRACH transmissions is configured or selected by the terminal device 110, the terminal device 110 may apply the mask / restriction information to select the RO group. For example, the terminal device 110 may select one of (for example, the first) RO in the RO group based on the mask / restriction information. In some other embodiments, the terminal device 110 may apply the mask / restriction information to select the RO group based on the RO group index. In this way, applying the mask / information on RO group can provide more multiplexing on PRACH resources.
[0105] FIG. 10 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 1000 implemented at a terminal device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1000 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 in FIG. 2.
