AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing sidelink communication systems face challenges in reliably transmitting reference signals for beam failure detection due to issues like half-duplex operations, prioritization of other transmissions, or pre-emption by other UEs, leading to uncertainty in beam failure detection.

Method used

A terminal device determines a priority value for sidelink control information associated with reference signals for beam failure detection, adjusting it based on whether the reference signals are transmitted with or without sidelink data. This priority value is used to manage resource selection, transmission overlap, and resource reevaluation, thereby improving the reliability of reference signal transmission.

Benefits of technology

The proposed solution enhances the reliability of reference signal transmission for beam failure detection, reducing the likelihood of missed transmissions and improving the accuracy of beam failure detection, thereby ensuring more reliable sidelink communication.

Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to device and method for sidelink communications. A first terminal device determines a priority value included in SCI associated with reference signals for BFD. The priority value is a lowest value among a first set of configured or pre-configured priority values if the reference signals are transmitted without sidelink data in a slot, or the priority value is a decreased value by a configured or pre-configured offset from a first priority value for the sidelink data if the reference signals are transmitted with the sidelink data in the slot. In turn, the first terminal device transmits or receives the reference signals based on the priority value.

Description

DEVICE, METHOD AND COMPUTER READABLE MEDIUM FOR SIDELINK COMMUNICATIONTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of telecommunication, and in particular, to a device, method and computer readable medium for sidelink communication.BACKGROUND

[0002] Wireless communication networks are widely deployed and can support various types of service applications for terminal devices. Many communication schemes have been proposed to support the rapidly increasing data traffic. For example, sidelink communication has been proposed. In the sidelink communication, one or more sidelinks may be established between the terminal devices in the wireless communication network and the terminal devices may exchange signalling and data with each other directly via the established sidelinks.

[0003] In scenarios where the sidelink communication is performed, a transmitting terminal device transmits sidelink control information associated with sidelink data on a Physical Sidelink Control Channel (PSCCH) , and transmits the sidelink data on a Physical Sidelink Shared Channel (PSSCH) based on the sidelink control information. Further, in order to ensure the reliability of the sidelink transmission, a Physical Sidelink Feedback Channel (PSFCH) is used to carry Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) feedback information for the sidelink data from a receiving terminal device to the transmitting terminal device.SUMMARY

[0004] In general, example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a device, method and computer readable medium for sidelink communication.

[0034] In some embodiments, the network device 150 may be an eNB in Long Term Evolution (LTE) system. Thus, the network device 150 may be also referred to as an LTE network device 150.

[0035] It is to be understood that the number of devices in Fig. 1 is given for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations to the present disclosure. The communication network 100 may include any suitable number of network devices and / or terminal devices adapted for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0036] The communications in the communication network 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , LTE, LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , Wideband Code Division Multiple  Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. Furthermore, the communications may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols.

[0037] In some embodiments, the communications in the communication network 100 may comprise sidelink communication. Sidelink communication is a wireless radio communication directly between two or more terminal devices, such as two or more terminal devices among the terminal device 110, the terminal device 120 and the terminal device 130. In this type of communication, the two or more terminal devices that are geographically proximate to each other can directly communicate without going through the network device 140 or 150 or through a core network. Data transmission in sidelink communication is thus different from typical cellular network communications, in which a terminal device transmits data to the network device 140 or 150 (i. e., uplink transmissions) or receives data from the network device 140 or 150 (i. e., downlink transmissions) . In sidelink communication, data is transmitted directly from a source terminal device (such as the terminal device 110) to a target terminal device (such as the terminal device 120) through the Unified Air Interface, e. g., PC5 interface, (i. e., sidelink transmissions) , as shown in Fig. 1.

[0038] Sidelink communication can provide several advantages, including reducing data transmission load on a core network, system resource consumption, transmission power consumption, and network operation costs, saving wireless spectrum resources, and increasing spectrum efficiency of a cellular wireless communication system.

[0039] In a sidelink communication system, the sidelink resource is used to transmit information between terminal devices. According to application scenarios, service types, etc., a sidelink communication manner includes but is not limited to device to device (D2D) communication, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, etc.

[0040] V2X communication enables vehicles to communicate with other vehicles (i. e. Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication) , with infrastructure (i. e. Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) , with wireless networks (i. e. Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) communication) , with pedestrians (i. e. Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P) communication) , and even with the owner's home (i. e. Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) ) . Examples of infrastructure include roadside units such as traffic lights, toll gates and the like. V2X communication can be used in a wide range of  scenarios, including in accident prevention and safety, convenience, traffic efficiency and clean driving, and ultimately in relation to autonomous or self-driving vehicles.

[0041] For sidelink communication, a terminal device uses resources in sidelink resource pools to transmit or receive signals. The sidelink resource pools include resources in time domain and frequency domain, which are dedicated resources of the sidelink communication, or shared by the sidelink communication and a cellular link. For sidelink communication, two modes of resource assignment may be used for sidelink, including network device schedules sidelink resources for terminal devices to perform sidelink signal transmission, named as mode 1 resource scheme in NR sidelink or mode 3 resource scheme in LTE sidelink, and terminal device selects sidelink resources by itself to perform sidelink signal transmission, named as mode 2 resource scheme in NR sidelink or mode 4 resource scheme in LTE sidelink.

[0042] The terminal device 110, the terminal device 120 and the terminal device 130 may use sidelink channels to transmit sidelink signaling or information. The sidelink channels include at least one of the following: a PSCCH resource which is used for carrying sidelink control information (SCI) , a PSSCH resource which is used for carrying sidelink data service information, a PSFCH resource which is used for carrying sidelink Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) feedback information, a physical sidelink broadcast channel (PSBCH) resource which is used for carrying sidelink broadcast information, and a physical sidelink discovery channel (PSDCH) resource which is used for carrying a sidelink discovery signal.

[0043] The third generation partnership project (3GPP) is discussing two schemes to trigger sidelink beam failure instance (BFI) that a physical (PHY) layer provides to a medium access control (MAC) layer.

[0044] In a first scheme, the sidelink BFI is triggered at a transmitter user equipment (UE) . This is similar to Release 16 sidelink radio link failure (RLF) detection procedure, which relies on the track of sidelink HARQ feedback. Specifically, on each PSFCH reception occasion, if a transmitter UE detects a PSFCH reception absent, then the counter (i. e., “numConsecutiveDTX” ) at MAC layer is increased by 1. Otherwise, the counter is reset to 0. If the counter reaches a threshold, then sidelink RLF is detected. Basically, the transmitter UE reports the existence of HARQ feedback from PHY layer to MAC layer on each PSFCH reception occasion. Hereinafter, the first scheme is also referred to as HARQ-ACK based BFR scheme.

[0045] In a second scheme, the sidelink BFI is triggered at a receiver UE. A transmitter (TX) UE transmits sidelink reference signals for BFD, and a receiver (RX) UE measures the  sidelink reference signals for BFD. If the measurement satisfies a threshold, then the receiver UE reports sidelink BFI from PHY layer to MAC layer. This is similar to Uu link BFI procedure. In Uu link Beam Failure Detection (BFD) , if a receiver UE detects that hypothetical PDCCH Block Error Ratio (BLER) is above a threshold, it provides MAC layer an indication of BFI. MAC layer starts or restarts a timer every time it receives BFI and it keeps incrementing the counter by 1 for every BFI. If the BFI counter value is larger than or equal to a threshold, then the beam failure is detected. If the timer expires, then the BFI counter is reset to 0. This similar scheme could be reused for sidelink BFD. Hereinafter, the first scheme is also referred to as BFD RS based BFR scheme.

[0046] However, there are some issues with the first scheme and the second scheme. For example, with respect to the second scheme, reference signal for BFD may not be transmitted at an expected occasion in case of half-duplex, prioritization of other transmissions, or pre-emption by transmissions from other UEs. As a result, when the UE does not detect the reference signal for BFD at the expected occasion, it does not know whether it is due to beam failure or not. This will be described with reference to Fig. 2.

[0047] Fig. 2 illustrates an example of trigger of a sidelink BFI. As shown in Fig. 2, a TX UE transmits sidelink reference signals for BFD, and an RX UE measures the sidelink reference signals for BFD. If the measurement satisfies a threshold, then the RX UE reports a sidelink BFI from PHY layer to MAC layer. MAC layer starts or restarts a timer every time it receives BFI and it keeps incrementing the counter by 1 for every BFI. If the BFI counter value is larger than or equal to a threshold, then the beam failure is detected. For example, if the number of consecutive BFIs is larger than or equal to a threshold “beamFailureInstanceMaxCount” , the beam failure is detected.

[0048] However, the reference signal for BFD may not be transmitted at an expected occasion 210 in case of half-duplex, prioritization of other transmissions, or pre-emption by transmissions from other UEs. As a result, when the RX UE does not detect the reference signal for BFD at the expected occasion 210, it does not know whether it is due to beam failure or not.

[0049] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for sidelink communication. According to the solution, a first terminal device determines a priority value included in sidelink control information (SCI) associated with reference signals for BFD. For example, the first terminal device may perform resource selection and reselection based on the priority value, handle transmission or reception overlap issue based on priority value, or handle resource reevaluation and preemption based on priority value. In this way, the priority level of the reference signals for BFD is improved. More reliable transmission of the reference signals for BFD and BFR procedure may be achieved.

[0050] Hereinafter, principle of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Figs. 3 to 9.

[0051] Fig. 3 illustrates a flowchart of an example method in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the method 300 can be implemented at a terminal device, such as one of the first terminal device 110, the second terminal device 120 and the third terminal device 130 as shown in Fig. 1. For the purpose of discussion, the method 300 will be described with reference to Fig. 1 as performed by the first terminal device 110 without loss of generality.

[0052] At block 310, the first terminal device 110 determines a priority value included in SCI associated with reference signals (RS) for BFD. The priority value is a lowest value among a first set of configured or pre-configured priority values if the reference signals are transmitted without sidelink data in a slot. Alternatively, the priority value is a decreased value by a configured or pre-configured offset from a first priority value for the sidelink data if the reference signals are transmitted with the sidelink data in the slot.

[0053] At block 320, the first terminal device 110 transmits or receives the reference signals based on the priority value.

[0054] In some embodiments, the reference signals for BFD may include but are not limited to channel-state information reference signals (CSI-RS) or sidelink synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel block (S-SSB) .

[0055] With the method 300, the priority level of the reference signals for BFD is improved. This may largely reduce the possibility that BFD RS cannot be transmitted at an expected occasion. Thus, more reliable transmission of the reference signals for BFD and BFR procedure may be achieved.

[0056] Hereinafter, some embodiments of the present disclosure will be described by taking transmission of the reference signals for BFD for example. However, the solutions of the present disclosure are also applicable to reception of the reference signals for BFD.

[0057] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 110 may transmit the reference  signals for BFD without sidelink data in a slot. In other words, transmission of the reference signals are standalone transmission. In such embodiments, the priority value included in SCI associated with reference signals for BFD is a lowest value among a first set of configured or pre-configured priority values. The first set of configured or pre-configured priority values may at least comprise values from 0 to 8. Alternatively, the first set of configured or pre-configured priority values may at least comprise values from 1 to 8. For example, the priority value included in the SCI may be equal to 0 or 1.

[0058] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 110 may transmit the reference signals for BFD with sidelink data in a slot. In other words, transmission of the reference signals are non-standalone transmission. In such embodiments, the first priority value for the sidelink data may be indicated from higher layer of the first terminal device 110 to physical (PHY) layer of the first terminal device 110. The PHY layer may decrease the first priority value for the sidelink data by a configured or pre-configured offset. Then, the first terminal device 110 may determine the decreased first priority value as the priority value. In this way, the priority level of the reference signals for BFD is improved. This may largely reduce the possibility that BFD RS cannot be transmitted at an expected occasion.

[0059] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 110 may indicate the priority value (i.e., the decreased first priority value) in the 1st-stage SCI associate with the sidelink data and the reference signals for BFD.

[0060] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the first terminal device 110 may set one original field in SCI for indicating the first priority value associated with the sidelink data and one extra field is added to the SCI for indicating the priority value for the reference signals for BFD. In such embodiments, a priority value for such non-standalone transmissionism is defined as the lower priority value of the two values indicated in SCI.

[0061] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 110 may transmit the reference signals and the SCI associated with the reference signals without the sidelink data. The SCI may comprise an indication indicating the first terminal device 110 is transmitting the reference signals. The indication is also referred to as a BFD RS flag. In this way, the transmission with the SCI comprising the BFD RS flag should not be dropped due to prioritization or the resource reserved by the SCI comprising BFD RS flag should not be preempted by other UE. This may largely reduce the possibility that BFD RS cannot be transmitted at an expected occasion.

[0062] In some embodiments, if a BFI indication has been received from lower layers of the first terminal device 110, the first terminal device 110 may start or restart a timer for the  BFD. A duration of the timer may comprise at least one logical slot in a resource pool. In other words, the duration of the timer may be in unit of logical slot in a resource pool. In this way, BFI_counter based scheme is applicable in non-consecutive sidelink resource pool. This will be described with reference to Fig. 4.

[0063] Fig. 4 illustrates an example of a duration of a timer for the BFD in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 4, the duration of the timer may be represented by beamFailureDetectionTimer-sl. When the duration is three slots, it covers three sidelink logical slots in a resource pool. The three sidelink logical slots may correspond to five slots in the carrier or bandwidth part (BWP) .

[0064] Alternatively, or additionally, the duration of the timer may comprise at least one window for the BFD. This will be described with reference to Fig. 5.

[0065] Fig. 5 illustrates an example of a duration of a timer for the BFD in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 5, the duration of the timer may comprise one or more window for the BFD. Each of the window may comprise multiple occasions for transmission or reception of the reference signals for BFD. For example, in the example of Fig. 5, each of the window may comprise two occasions for transmission or reception of the reference signals for BFD. The two occasions are represented by O1 and O2, respectively.

[0066] Hereinafter, some embodiments of report of BFI indication will be described.

[0067] In some embodiments, if the first terminal device 110 detects, in a window for the BFD, that quality of a radio link between the first terminal device 110 and the second terminal device 120 is worse than a quality threshold at least once, the first terminal device 110 may provide, at most once, a BFI indication from a PHY layer of the first terminal device 110 to a MAC layer of the first terminal device 120. For example, if the first terminal device 110 detects, in the window for the BFD, that quality of the radio link is worse than the quality threshold more times, the first terminal device 110 may provide a BFI indication only once.

[0068] In some embodiments, the first terminal device 110 may detect the quality of the radio link by detecting a hypothetical BLER of the radio link. If the first terminal device 110 detects the hypothetical BLER is above a first threshold, the first terminal device 110 may determine the quality of a radio link is worse than the quality threshold.

[0069] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the first terminal device 110 may detect the quality of the radio link by detecting a Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) of the radio link. If the first terminal device 110 detects the RSRP is below a second threshold, the first terminal device 110 may determine the quality of a radio link is worse than the quality  threshold.

[0070] In some embodiments, if the first terminal device 110 determines that at least one BFI indication has been received from a lower layer of the first terminal device 110, the first terminal device 110 may perform increment of a counter for BFI by 1 at most once in a window for the BFD. For example, if the MAC layer of the first terminal device 110 determines that at least one BFI indication has been received from the PHY layer of the first terminal device 110, the MAC layer may perform increment of a counter for BFI by 1 at most once in a window for the BFD. This will be described with reference to Fig. 6.

[0071] Fig. 6 illustrates an example of increment of report of BFI indication in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 6, a TX UE (for example, the second terminal device 120) transmits sidelink reference signals for BFD, and an RX UE (for example, the first terminal device 110) measures the sidelink reference signals for BFD.

[0072] A duration of a timer for BFD may comprise windows 610, 620, 630 and 640 for the BFD. Each of the windows 610, 620, 630 and 640 may comprise multiple occasions for transmission or reception of the reference signals for BFD. For example, in the example of Fig. 6, each of the windows 610, 620, 630 and 640 may comprise two occasions for transmission or reception of the reference signals for BFD. The two occasions are represented by O1 and O2, respectively.

[0073] In case 1, legacy solution may be applied. In this case, a counter for BFI (also referred to as BFI_COUNTER) has been increased by 1 twice in the window 620. The BFI_COUNTER reaches the maximum value of 4 in the window 630, which triggers BFR (represented by BFR1) in the window 630. However, the expected results should be case 2 or case 3.

[0074] Specifically, in case 1, at an occasion O1 in the window 620, the TX UE does not transmit the reference signals for BFD and thus the RX UE detects the quality of a radio link between them is worse than the quality threshold. Therefore, the BFI_COUNTER has been increased by 1 once, i. e., the BFI_COUNTER has been increased to 2. At an occasion O2 in the window 620, the TX UE transmits the reference signals for BFD but the RX UE detects the quality of the radio link is worse than the quality threshold. Therefore, the BFI_COUNTER has been increased by 1 again, i. e., the BFI_COUNTER has been increased to 3.

[0075] In case 2, the solution of the present disclosure may be applied. In this case, the BFI_COUNTER is increased by 1 only once in the window 620. The BFI_COUNTER reaches the maximum value of 4 in the window 640, which triggers BFR (represented by BFR2) in  the window 640.

[0076] In case 3, there is no report of BFI indication in the window 640 and the BFI_COUNTER is reset to 0. Thus, no BFR is triggered.

[0077] In some embodiments, if the first terminal device 110 detects, in a window for the BFD, that quality of a radio link between the first terminal device 110 and the second terminal device 120 is better than a quality threshold, the first terminal device 110 provides an indication from a PHY layer of the first terminal device 110 to a MAC layer of the first terminal device 110. The indication indicates that there is no beam failure. In turn, the MAC layer may set a counter for BFI to zero when receiving the indication. Hereinafter, the indication is also referred to as “non-BFI” .

[0078] In some embodiments, beam failure is detected by counting beam failure instance indication from the lower layers to the MAC entity.

[0079] ■ 2>if beam failure instance indication for a BFD-RS set has been received from lower layers:

[0080] ◆ 3>start or restart the beamFailureDetectionTimer-sl of the BFD-RS set where

[0081] ● Option 1: beamFailureDetectionTimer-sl is a value in number of logical slot in a resource pool

[0082] ● Option 2: beamFailureDetectionTimer-sl  is a value in number of "Qout, LR reporting periods of Beam Failure Detection"Reference Signal and reporting periods of Beam Failure Detection is in number of logical slot in a resource pool

[0083] ◆ 3>increment BFI_COUNTER of the BFD-RS set by 1;

[0084] ● Increment should be performed at most once in a detection window

[0085] ◆ 3>if BFI_COUNTER of the BFD-RS set >=beamFailureInstanceMaxCount:

[0086] ● 4>trigger a BFR for this BFD-RS set of the Serving Cell;

[0087] ■ 2>if the beamFailureDetectionTimer of this BFD-RS set expires or non-BFI has been received from lower layers :

[0088] ◆ 3>set BFI_COUNTER of the BFD-RS set to 0.

[0089] In some embodiments, if the first terminal device 110 detects, in all of multiple reception occasions in a window for the BFD, that quality of a radio link between the first terminal device 110 and the second terminal device 120 is worse than a quality threshold, the  first terminal device 110 may provide a BFI indication from the PHY layer of the first terminal device 110 to the MAC layer of the first terminal device 110. For example, only when the first terminal device 110 detects that all hypothetical BLER within a window for BFD are above a threshold, the first terminal device 110 provides MAC layer a BFI indication. This will be described with reference to Fig. 7.

[0090] Fig. 7 illustrates an example of increment of report of BFI indication in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in Fig. 7, a TX UE (for example, the second terminal device 120) transmits sidelink reference signals for BFD, and an RX UE (for example, the first terminal device 110) measures the sidelink reference signals for BFD.

[0091] A duration of a timer for BFD may comprise windows 710, 720, 730 and 740 for the BFD. Each of the windows 710, 720, 730 and 740 may comprise multiple occasions for transmission or reception of the reference signals for BFD. For example, in the example of Fig. 7, each of the windows 710, 720, 730 and 740 may comprise two occasions for transmission or reception of the reference signals for BFD. The two occasions are represented by O1 and O2, respectively.

[0092] In the example of Fig. 7, continuous thick lines indicate that quality of a radio link between the first terminal device 110 and the second terminal device 120 is better than a quality threshold, and dot dash lines indicate that quality of the radio link between the first terminal device 110 and the second terminal device 120 is worse than the quality threshold. For example, at an occasion O1 in the window 710, the TX UE (for example, the second terminal device 120) transmits the reference signals for BFD and the RX UE (for example, the first terminal device 110) detects the quality of the radio link is better than the quality threshold. At an occasion O2 in the window 720, the TX UE transmits the reference signals for BFD but the RX UE detects the quality of the radio link is worse than the quality threshold. Thus, not all hypothetical BLER within the window 710 are above a threshold.

[0093] In case 1, legacy solution may be applied. In this case, the first terminal device 110 provides MAC layer a BFI indication at the occasion O2 in the window 720 and the counter for BFI is increased by 1.

[0094] In case 2, the solution of the present disclosure may be applied. According to the solution of the present disclosure, because not all hypothetical BLER within the window 710 are above a threshold, the first terminal device 110 does not provide MAC layer a BFI indication at the occasion O2 in the window 720 and the counter for BFI is not increased by 1. This may avoid frequent or error trigger of BFR.

[0095] Alternatively, in some embodiments, once the physical layer informs the higher  layers when the radio link quality is worse than a threshold Qout, LR with a periodicity determined by the maximum between the M (M is preconfigured value) shortest periodicity among the BFD RS (e. g., SS / PBCH blocks on the PCell or the PSCell and / or the periodic CSI-RS configurations in the set  or  ) that the UE uses to assess the radio link quality and 2 msec.

[0096] Alternatively, in some embodiments, a field is added in the SCI associated with the BFD RS to indicate whether the BFD transmission is the original occasion or the candidate occasion.

[0097] Alternatively, in some embodiments, the measurement of a window is a Layer 3 filtered result of all the measurement results within the window.

[0098] In some embodiments, a set of reserved periodic resources (slots or sub-channels) within a resource pool may be configured or pre-configured for BFD RS transmission. In such embodiments, if the first terminal device 110 determines that a second priority value for a sidelink transmission is above a second priority threshold, the first terminal device 110 may transmit or receive the sidelink transmission on at least one reserved resource for the reference signals for BFD. The sidelink transmission comprises the reference signals. In other words, only if the priority value for the sidelink transmission is higher than the second priority threshold, the sidelink transmission can use the reserved resources. This may prevent BFD RS transmission from dropping or preemption.

[0099] In some embodiments, the sidelink transmission may comprise the reference signals without sidelink data. In such embodiments, only standalone BFD RS transmission can use the reserved resources to transmit BFD RS. All the standalone BFD RS transmission could be configured with one consistent priority value.

[0100] In some embodiments, both standalone BFD RS transmission and non-standalone BFD RS transmission can use the reserved resources to transmit BFD RS. For non-standalone BFD RS transmission, the priority value for the non-standalone BFD RS transmission is the lowest priority value of the sideling data and the BFD RS. For example, if a first priority value for the sidelink data is lower than the priority value for the BFD RS, the first terminal device 110 may determine the priority value for the non-standalone BFD RS transmission to be the first priority value for the sidelink data. If the first priority value for the sidelink data is higher than the priority value for the BFD RS, the first terminal device 110 may determine the priority value for the non-standalone BFD RS transmission to be the priority value for the BFD RS.

[0101] In some embodiments, a set of reserved resource are (pre-) configured out of a resource pool for standalone BFD RS transmission,

[0102] ◆ E.g., in TS 38.214, section 8, the set of slots that may belong to a sidelink resource pool includes all the slots except following:

[0103] ◆ NS-SSB slots in which S-SS / PSBCH block (S-SSB) is configured,

[0104] ◆ ……

[0105] ◆ A number of BFD RS transmission slots in which BFD RS transmission is configured.

[0106] As described above, in the second scheme (i. e., BFD RS based BFR scheme) , a BFR is triggered at an RX UE. There are some issues with the second scheme. This will be described with reference to Fig. 8A.

[0107] Fig. 8A illustrates an example of trigger of an error BFR at an RX UE. In the example of Fig. 8A, continuous thin lines indicate that quality of a radio link between the TX UE and the RX UE is worse than a quality threshold, continuous thick lines indicate that quality of a radio link between the TX UE and the RX UE is better than the quality threshold, and dot dash lines indicate that the BFD RS is not transmitted.

[0108] As shown in Fig. 8A, at an occasion 810, the TX UE does not transmit the reference signals for BFD and thus the RX UE detects the quality of a radio link between them is worse than the quality threshold. Therefore, the BFI_COUNTER has been increased by 1, i. e., the BFI_COUNTER has been increased to 3. At time 812, the BFI_COUNTER reaches the maximum value of 4. Thus, the RX UE triggers an error BFR by transmitting a beam failure recovery request (BFRQ) to the TX UE. Then, the TX UE accepts the BFRQ and transmits a beam failure recovery response (BFRR) to the RX UE.

[0109] In addition, in the example of Fig. 8A, if the first scheme is applied, at each of PSFCH reception occasions 820, 822, 824, 826 and 828, if the TX UE detects a PSFCH reception absent, then the counter (i. e., “numConsecutiveDTX” ) at MAC layer is increased by 1. Otherwise, the counter is reset to 0. Thus, the error BFR will not be triggered.

[0110] As described above, in the first scheme (i. e., HARQ-ACK based BFR scheme) , a BFR is triggered at a TX UE. There are still some issues with the first scheme. This will be described with reference to Fig. 8B.

[0111] Fig. 8B illustrates an example of trigger of an error BFR at a TX UE. In the example of Fig. 8B, continuous thin lines indicate that quality of a radio link between the TX UE and the RX UE is worse than a quality threshold, and continuous thick lines indicate that quality of the radio link between the TX UE and the RX UE is better than the quality threshold.

[0112] As shown in Fig. 8B, if the first scheme is applied, at each of the PSFCH reception occasions 820, 822 and 826, the TX UE detects a PSFCH reception absent because the quality of the radio link between the TX UE and the RX UE is worse than a quality threshold, then the counter (i. e., “numConsecutiveDTX” ) at MAC layer is increased by 1. At the PSFCH reception occasion 824, the RX UE detects that quality of the radio link between the TX UE and the RX UE is better than the quality threshold and would like to transmit an ACK or NACK to the TX UE. However, due to half-duplex, prioritization or resource pre-emption, the RX UE does not transmit the ACK or NACK to the TX UE. Thus, at the PSFCH reception occasion 824, the TX UE also detects a PSFCH reception absent and the counter (i. e., “numConsecutiveDTX” ) at MAC layer is increased by 1 in error. The counter reaches the maximum value of 4 at the PSFCH reception occasion 826, and the TX UE triggers an error BFR by transmitting a BFRQ to the RX UE. Then, the RX UE accepts the BFRQ and transmits a BFRR to the TX UE.

[0113] In order to address the issues in the examples of Figs. 8A and 8B, in some embodiments, a combination of the first scheme and the second scheme may be applied.

[0114] In some embodiments, a resource pool or a UE will be configured or pre-configured with enabling / allowing one of: {BFD RS based BFR scheme, HARQ-ACK based BFR scheme, a combination of BFD RS based BFR scheme and HARQ-ACK based BFR scheme} .

[0115] In some embodiments, when the combination of BFD RS based BFR scheme and HARQ-ACK based BFR scheme is enabled or allowed, BFR of a radio link will be triggered only when BFR is triggered at both UEs of the radio link.

[0116] In some embodiments, a UE accepts a BFRQ from a peer UE and sends a BFRR when BFR is also triggered at the UE itself.

[0117] For example, when the first terminal device 110 (acting as a TX UE) receives a request for BFR (i. e., BFRQ) from the second terminal device 120 (acting as a RX UE) , the TX UE accepts the BFRQ and sends a response to request for BFR (i. e., BFRR) to the RX UE if the TX UE determines to trigger the BFR based on PSFCH receptions with sidelink HARQ feedback information.

[0118] For another example, when the first terminal device 110 (acting as an RX UE) receives a BFRQ from the second terminal device 120 (acting as a TX UE) , the RX UE accepts the BFRQ and sends BFRR to the TX UE if the RX UE determines to trigger the BFR based on measurement of the reference signals for the BFD.

[0119] Fig. 9 is a simplified block diagram of a device 900 that is suitable for implementing embodiments of the present disclosure. The device 900 can be considered as a further  example embodiment of the terminal device 110 as shown in Fig. 1. Accordingly, the device 900 can be implemented at or as at least a part of the terminal device 110.
