[0058]
[0059] FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating an electronic device including antennas according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0060] Referring to FIG. 2, an electronic device (200) (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1) may include a first antenna (210), a second antenna (220), at least one processor (230) (e.g., the processor (120) of FIG. 1), and an RFIC (240). Only components related to the present embodiments are illustrated in the electronic device (200) illustrated in FIG. 2. Therefore, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the electronic device (200) may further include other general-purpose components in addition to the components illustrated in FIG. 2.
[0061] The electronic device (200) can support MB (mid band) (e.g., LTE Anchor) - MB (mid band) (e.g., NR (new radio)) ENDC (E-UTRAN new radio dual connectivity) using the first antenna (210) and the second antenna (220). The electronic device (200) can support MB (e.g., LTE Anchor) - HB (e.g., high band) ENDC using the first antenna (210) and the second antenna (220). However, the network communications that the first antenna (210) and the second antenna (220) can support are not limited to the examples described above. For example, the electronic device (200) can support not only 5G communications but also existing communication methods. The electronic device (200) can support existing communication methods such as LTE, 3G, and / or 2G.
[0062] In order to support communication of various RF bands in the electronic device (200), a first antenna (210) and a second antenna (220) may be arranged in the lower region and the upper region, respectively, as illustrated in FIG. 2. However, the arrangement of the first antenna (210) and the second antenna (220) described above is merely an example and is not limited thereto.
[0063] The electronic device (200) may include one or more processors (230). The processor (230) may be connected to an RFIC (240). The processor (230) may generate a processing command for a signal transmitted or received through the first antenna (210) and / or the second antenna (220). The RFIC (240) may process the signal transmitted or received through the first antenna (210) and / or the second antenna (220) according to the processing command. The processor (230) may generate a control command that controls switching for the first antenna (210) and / or the second antenna (220). The RFIC (240) may perform switching for the first antenna (210) and / or the second antenna (220) according to the control command. According to one embodiment, the processor (230) may be a communication processor (e.g., the auxiliary processor (123) of FIG. 1).
[0064] The electronic device (200) may include a power amplifier (PA) for the first antenna (210) and a PA for the second antenna (220) to support the various network communications described above (e.g., MB-HB ENDC). By including a PA for each of the first antenna (210) and the second antenna (220), the electronic device (200) may include two transmittable antennas.
[0065] Accordingly, the electronic device (200) may determine either the first antenna (210) or the second antenna (220) as the main transmitting antenna. The electronic device (200) may determine any antenna, excluding the antenna determined as the main transmitting antenna, among the first antenna (210) and the second antenna (220), as the main receiving antenna. Even if an antenna is determined as the main transmitting antenna, it can perform not only transmitting but also receiving. In other words, the antenna determined as the main transmitting antenna may be both the main transmitting antenna and the sub-receiving antenna. For example, if the first antenna (210) is determined as the main transmitting antenna, the first antenna (210) may operate as both the main transmitting antenna and the sub-receiving antenna.
[0066] Similarly, even if an antenna is determined to be the main receiving antenna, it can perform both receiving and transmitting. In other words, an antenna determined to be the main receiving antenna can be both the main receiving antenna and the sub-transmitting antenna. For example, if the second antenna (220) is determined to be the main receiving antenna, the second antenna (220) can operate as both the main receiving antenna and the sub-transmitting antenna.
[0067] The reception quality of an electronic device (200) may deteriorate for various reasons. For example, the reception quality may deteriorate depending on how the electronic device (200) is held by the user. Therefore, when the reception quality deteriorates, the electronic device (200) may need to switch the main transmission antenna. For example, the electronic device (200) may need to switch the main transmission antenna from the first antenna (210) to the second antenna (220). Therefore, a method for switching the main transmission antenna may be required.
[0068] A related technology can switch the main transmitting antenna depending on whether the difference between the RSRP (reference signal received power) values of the first antenna (210) and the second antenna (220) exceeds a threshold value. The difference in the RSRP values can be a value obtained by subtracting the RSRP value of the main transmitting antenna from the RSRP value of the main receiving antenna.
[0069] Below, we will explain the AIT code in which the antenna operates according to the SNR (signal noise ratio) conditions.
[0070]
[0071] FIG. 3 is a flowchart for determining which code among AIT codes (antenna impedance tuning codes) an antenna will operate with using SNR conditions according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0072] Antennas (e.g., the first antenna (210) of FIG. 2 and the second antenna (220) of FIG. 2) may be connected to a tuner that adjusts the impedance of the antenna. The tuner may include a plurality of capacitors and a plurality of switches. The plurality of capacitors and the plurality of switches may be controlled based on an AIT code. The impedance may be adjusted by charging and discharging the plurality of capacitors and switching the plurality of switches based on the AIT code. Each of the antennas included in an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 and the electronic device (200) of FIG. 2) may have its impedance adjusted based on the same or different AIT code.
[0073] Antennas can simultaneously transmit and receive signals. Antennas can transmit and receive signals in different frequency bands. For example, an antenna can transmit signals in the 1700 MHz band and receive signals in the 2100 MHz band.
[0074] Since antennas transmit and receive signals in different frequency bands, they may need to use different AIT codes for transmission and reception. Therefore, the AIT code may include a transmit code (TX code) and a receive code (RX code). The transmit code can control the antenna's transmission performance by controlling the antenna's impedance. The receive code can control the antenna's reception performance by controlling the antenna's impedance.
[0075] Below, we will explain how to determine the AIT code at which the antenna of the related technology will operate.
[0076] The operations described below may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily sequential. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. The operations illustrated in FIG. 3 may be performed by at least one component of the electronic device.
[0077] In operation (310), the electronic device may determine whether the antenna satisfies a SNR condition. The SNR condition may be whether the SNR of the antenna exceeds a threshold.
[0078] In operation (320), the electronic device can control the antenna to operate with a transmission code if the antenna does not satisfy the SNR condition.
[0079] In operation (330), the electronic device can control the antenna to operate with a receiving code if the antenna satisfies the SNR condition.
[0080] However, the method for determining the AIT code at which the antenna will operate is not limited to the SNR conditions described above.
[0081] As described above in FIGS. 2 and 3, the switching of the main antenna and the determination of the AIT code are based on different criteria, and the antenna can operate in four different cases. Below, the four cases of operation based on different criteria will be described.
[0082]
[0083] FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating a CASE that may occur depending on antenna switching and SNR conditions according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0084] Whether an antenna operates as a main transmitting antenna or a main receiving antenna and which AIT code it operates with can be independent. In other words, an antenna can operate as a main transmitting antenna while operating with a transmitting code or with a receiving code.
[0085] Referring to FIG. 4, a table is shown showing cases that may occur depending on antenna switching and SNR conditions.
[0086] For convenience of explanation, the following description will be based on the first antenna (e.g., the first antenna (210) of FIG. 2). However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the following description can also be applied to antennas other than the first antenna.
[0087] Referring to FIG. 4, as shown in Table (400), in CASE 1, the first antenna operates as the main transmitting antenna, and the first antenna may operate as a transmitting code. The RSRP value may be a measure of reception quality. When the first antenna operates as a transmitting code, the first antenna may prioritize transmitting performance over receiving performance. Therefore, even if the performance of the first antenna has not actually decreased, the RSRP value when the first antenna operates as a transmitting code may be measured to be smaller than the RSRP value when the first antenna operates as a transmitting code.
[0088] For example, when the first antenna operates as a transmission code, the first antenna may prioritize transmission performance, and the RSRP value of the first antenna may be reduced by 3 dB compared to the actual performance of the first antenna. In other words, when the first antenna operates as a transmission code, the RSRP value of the first antenna may already be reduced by 3 dB. That is, additional deviation may occur. For example, assuming that the threshold of the RSRP delta value for switching the main transmission antenna to the second antenna (e.g., the second antenna (220) of FIG. 2) is 8 dB, switching of the main transmission antenna may occur even if the RSRP value of the first antenna is reduced by only 5 dB due to the additional deviation. Therefore, switching of the main transmission antenna from the first antenna to the second antenna may occur even if there is no gain.
[0089] In CASE 2, the second antenna may operate as the main transmitting antenna, and the first antenna may operate as the transmitting code. In other words, CASE 2 may be the case in which the main transmitting antenna is switched from the first antenna to the second antenna in CASE 1. When the first antenna operates as the transmitting code, the RSRP value of the first antenna may be lowered compared to the performance of the actual antenna, as described in CASE 1.
[0090] For example, when the first antenna operates as a transmit antenna, the RSRP value may be degraded by 3 dB compared to the actual antenna performance. Therefore, even if the second antenna operates as the main transmit antenna, the second antenna may continue to operate as the main transmit antenna despite having no gain.
[0091] In conclusion, in CASE 1 and CASE 2, performance may be reduced compared to when the main transmit antenna is fixed as the first antenna. When the first antenna operates with a transmit code, the reception quality (i.e., RSRP value) may deteriorate compared to the actual performance of the first antenna, which may cause switching of the main transmit antenna even when there is no gain, or the main transmit antenna may be maintained as the second antenna.
[0092] CASE 3 and CASE 4 may be cases where the first antenna operates as a receiving code. In CASE 3 and CASE 4, since the first antenna operates as a receiving code, the RSRP value of the first antenna may not be degraded. In CASE 3 and CASE 4, since the first antenna operates as a receiving code, the actual RSRP value of the first antenna may be measured. Therefore, in CASE 3 and CASE 4, the problem according to CASE 1 and CASE 2 may not occur.
[0093] Below, we will explain the switching log of the main transmitting antenna that may occur due to the above-described CASE.
[0094]
[0095] FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating a switching log of a main transmission antenna according to antenna switching and SNR conditions according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0096] Referring to FIG. 5, a table (500) depicting the switching log of the main transmitting antenna is shown.
[0097] Referring to FIG. 5, as shown in Table (500), antenna number 0 may be the first antenna (510) (e.g., the first antenna (210) of FIG. 2). Antenna number 7 in Table (500) may be the second antenna (520) (e.g., the second antenna (220) of FIG. 2). Referring to Table (500), most of the occupancy of the main transmitting antenna may be the second antenna (520). This may be because, as in CASE 1 of FIG. 4, the main transmitting antenna is switched to the second antenna (520) even though there is no gain. This may be because, as in CASE 2 of FIG. 4, the second antenna (520) continues to operate as the main transmitting antenna even though there is no gain.
[0098] Below, Table 1 is shown to explain the deterioration of reception quality due to antenna switching, assuming that the first antenna (510) is the lower antenna and the second antenna (520) is the upper antenna.
[0099] [Table 1]
[0100]
[0101] Referring to Table 1, the RSRP values at LOW, MID, and HIGH for each of the CASE in which the main transmit antenna is fixed at the bottom (hereinafter referred to as CASE A), the CASE in which the main transmit antenna is fixed at the bottom, and the CASE in which the main transmit antenna is switched (hereinafter referred to as CASE B) can be shown. Here, it is assumed that CASE B is a case in which the main transmit antenna is switched from the bottom antenna to the top antenna. Therefore, CASE A and B will be compared.
[0102] In CASE A, the RSRP value in the HIGH band of the B3 band may be 19.05, and in CASE B, the RSRP value in the HIGH band of the B3 band may be 18.74. In this case, the RSRP delta value may be 0.31. In CASE A, the RSRP value in the HIGH band of the B7 band may be 19.52, and in CASE B, the RSRP value in the HIGH band of the B7 band may be 19.46. In this case, the RSRP delta value may be 0.06. Since the RSRP delta values in the B3 band and the B7 band are only 0.31 and 0.06, respectively, it can be determined that there is no problem with the antenna performance.
[0103] On the other hand, in CASE A, the RSRP value in the HIGH band of the B1 band may be 18.7, and in CASE B, the RSRP value in the HIGH band of the B1 band may be 16.28. In this case, the RSRP delta value may be 2.42. The RSRP delta value in the HIGH band of the B1 band may be relatively larger than that in the B3 and B7 bands. Compared to the B3 and B7 bands, even if there is no problem with the antenna performance, the reception quality may deteriorate in the HIGH band of the B1 band. Therefore, even if there is no problem with the antenna performance, the main transmit antenna may be unnecessarily switched, resulting in power loss.
[0104] Below, we will explain how to apply additional conditions to improve the problems according to CASE 1 and CASE 2 of FIG. 4 described above.
[0105]
[0106] FIG. 6 is a flowchart illustrating an antenna switching method of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0107] The operations described below may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily performed sequentially. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. The operations illustrated in FIG. 6 may be performed by at least one component of the electronic device.
[0108] In operation (610), an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 and the electronic device (200) of FIG. 2) may determine whether a first antenna (e.g., the first antenna (210) of FIG. 2 and the first antenna (510) of FIG. 5) operates with a transmission code among AIT codes. The AIT code may include a transmission code that controls the transmission performance of the first antenna by controlling the impedance of the antenna. The AIT code may include a reception code that controls the reception performance of the second antenna by controlling the impedance of the antenna.
[0109] As described above in Fig. 4, when the first antenna operates with a transmission code, a deterioration in reception quality compared to actual performance may occur.
[0110] In operation (620), the electronic device can switch the main transmit antenna based on whether the RSRP delta value exceeds a threshold value. In operation (620), the first antenna can operate as a receive code among the AIT codes. As described above in CASE 3 and CASE 4 of FIG. 4, when the first antenna operates as a receive code, the reception quality may not deteriorate compared to the actual performance. Therefore, when the first antenna operates as a receive code, the main transmit antenna can be switched based only on whether the RSRP delta value exceeds a threshold value.
[0111] In operation (630), the electronic device may determine whether a first condition is satisfied when the first antenna operates with a transmission code. The first condition may be a condition regarding reception quality of the first antenna and the second antenna (e.g., the second antenna (220) of FIG. 2 and the second antenna (520) of FIG. 5). The first condition may be whether an RSRP delta value for the first antenna and the second antenna exceeds a threshold value when the first antenna operates with a transmission code. The RSRP delta value may be a value obtained by subtracting the RSRP value of the main transmission antenna from the RSRP value of the main reception antenna when the first antenna operates with a transmission code.
[0112] In operation (640), the electronic device may not switch the main transmit antenna if the first condition is not satisfied. The main transmit antenna may not be switched because the RSRP delta value does not exceed the threshold value even though the first antenna operates with a transmit code.
[0113] In operation (650), the electronic device can control the first antenna to operate with a different code of the AIT code for a threshold time. When the threshold time elapses, the electronic device can control the first antenna to operate with the transmission code again.
[0114] The threshold time may be the time required to measure the RSRP values of the first and second antennas to verify the second condition in operation (660). Therefore, the threshold time may be a relatively short time required to measure only the RSRP values of the first and second antennas. For example, the threshold time may be an instantaneous time required to measure the RSRP values of the first and second antennas without affecting the overall antenna performance. However, the description of the threshold time described above is merely an example, and the present disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0115] Other codes may include a receiving code and a switching code. The switching code may be a code used to verify whether switching the main transmitting antenna is appropriate. The electronic device may control the first antenna to operate with the receiving code. Alternatively, the electronic device may control the first antenna to operate with the switching code.
[0116] As the first antenna operates with the transmission code, the reception quality may deteriorate compared to the actual performance, thereby satisfying the first condition in operation (630). Therefore, before switching the main transmission antenna, it may be necessary to determine whether the reception quality of the actual first antenna has deteriorated and requires switching. To determine whether the condition is satisfied regardless of whether the first antenna operates with the transmission code, the electronic device may control the first antenna to operate with a different code.
[0117] In operation (660), the electronic device can determine whether the second condition is satisfied when the first antenna operates with a different code.
[0118] The electronic device can determine whether the second condition is satisfied when the first antenna operates with a receiving code. The electronic device can determine whether the second condition is satisfied when the first antenna operates with a switching code.
[0119] The second condition may be a condition on the reception quality of the first antenna and the second antenna. The second condition may be whether the RSRP delta values for the first antenna and the second antenna exceed a threshold when the first antenna operates with a different code. Here, the threshold may be the same as the threshold of operation (630). In operation (660), the RSRP delta value may be a value obtained by subtracting the RSRP value of the main transmit antenna from the RSRP value of the main receive antenna when the first antenna operates with a different code. In order to distinguish the RSRP delta value in the first condition from the RSRP delta value in the second condition, they may be referred to as a first RSRP delta value and a second RSRP delta value, respectively.
[0120] If the second condition is not satisfied when the first antenna operates with a different code, operation (640) may be performed. The electronic device may not switch the main transmission antenna if the second condition is not satisfied when the first antenna operates with a different code. The electronic device may maintain an existing transmission path. In other words, if at least one of the first condition and the second condition is not satisfied, the electronic device may not switch the main transmission antenna. If at least one of the first condition and the second condition is not satisfied and the first antenna is operating as the main transmission antenna, the electronic device may control the first antenna to continue operating as the main transmission antenna. If at least one of the first condition and the second condition is not satisfied and the second antenna is operating as the main transmission antenna, the electronic device may control the second antenna to continue operating as the main transmission antenna.
[0121] When the second condition is satisfied while the first antenna operates with a different code, operation (670) may be performed. In operation (670), the electronic device may switch the main transmit antenna. The electronic device may change the transmit path by switching the main transmit antenna. In other words, the electronic device may switch the main transmit antenna from the first antenna to the second antenna when both the first condition and the second condition are satisfied and the first antenna is operating as the main transmit antenna. The electronic device may control the second antenna to continue operating as the main transmit antenna when both the first condition and the second condition are satisfied and the second antenna is operating as the main transmit antenna. In operation (650) and operation (660), the electronic device may calculate an RSRP delta value using an RSRP value measured instantaneously compared to operation (630).
[0122] According to one embodiment, the electronic device may further perform operation (680) prior to operation (610). In operation (680), the electronic device may determine whether the transmission code and the reception code for the first antenna and the second antenna are distinguished. The transmission code and the reception code may be distinguished as codes for different frequency bands. If the transmission code and the reception code are distinguished, the electronic device may perform operations (610) to (670). If the transmission code and the reception code are not distinguished, the electronic device may perform operation (620).
[0123] Below, we will explain the switching log of the main transmitting antenna when verifying the switching of the main transmitting antenna using different codes.
[0124]
[0125] FIG. 7 is a diagram illustrating a switching log of a main transmitting antenna according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0126] Referring to FIG. 7, a table (700) depicting the switching log of the main transmitting antenna is shown.
[0127] Referring to FIG. 7, as shown in table (700), antenna number 0 may be a first antenna (710) (e.g., first antenna (210) of FIG. 2 and first antenna (510) of FIG. 5). In table (700), antenna number 7 may be a second antenna (720) (e.g., second antenna (220) of FIG. 2 and second antenna (520) of FIG. 5).
[0128] Referring to table (700), compared to table (500) of FIG. 5, most of the occupancy of the main transmitting antenna may be the first antenna (710). This may be because, when switching the main transmitting antenna, the electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 and the electronic device (200) of FIG. 2) additionally checks whether the second condition is satisfied when the first antenna (710) operates with a different code. By additionally checking whether the second condition is satisfied, the electronic device can verify whether the first condition is satisfied due to the deterioration of reception quality caused by the first antenna (710) operating with the transmitting code. In other words, the electronic device can verify whether the first condition is satisfied due to the additional deviation caused by the first antenna (710) operating with the transmitting code by additionally checking whether the second condition is satisfied.
[0129] Consequently, the electronic device can prevent unnecessary switching of the main transmission antenna by switching the main transmission antenna when the first condition and the second condition are satisfied as an AND condition. The electronic device can prevent the main transmission antenna from being maintained as the second antenna (720) even when there is no gain.
[0130]
[0131] FIG. 8 is a drawing for explaining an operation method of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0132] In the embodiments below, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily performed sequentially. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. [0134] In operation (820), the electronic device can determine whether a first condition for reception quality of the first antenna and the second antenna (e.g., the second antenna (220) of FIG. 2, the second antenna (520) of FIG. 5, and the second antenna (720) of FIG. 7) is satisfied when the first antenna operates with a transmission code.

[0144] According to one embodiment, the operation of controlling the first antenna to operate as a receiving code among AIT codes may control the second antenna to continue to operate as the main transmitting antenna if at least one of the first condition and the second condition is not satisfied and the second antenna is operating as the main transmitting antenna.
[0145] According to one embodiment, the AIT code may include a transmission code that controls the transmission performance of the first antenna by controlling the impedance and a reception code that controls the reception performance of the first antenna by controlling the impedance.

[0149] According to one embodiment, the electronic device may further include an operation for determining whether the transmit code and receive code for the first antenna and the second antenna are distinct.
[0150]
[0151] FIG. 9 is a drawing for explaining an operation method of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0152] In the embodiments below, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily performed sequentially. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. [0153] Referring to FIG. 9, in operation (910), the electronic device can determine whether the first antenna (e.g., the first antenna (210) of FIG. 2, the first antenna (510) of FIG. 5, and the first antenna (710) of FIG. 7) operates with a transmission code among the AIT codes.
[0154] In operation (920), the electronic device can determine whether the first RSRP delta value for the first antenna and the second antenna (e.g., the second antenna (220) of FIG. 2, the second antenna (520) of FIG. 5, and the second antenna (720) of FIG. 7) exceeds a threshold when the first antenna operates with a transmission code.
[0155] In operation (930), the electronic device can control the first antenna to operate with a code other than a transmission code among the AIT codes when the first RSRP delta value exceeds a threshold.
[0156] In operation (940), the electronic device can control the operation of the first antenna based on whether the second RSRP delta value for the first antenna and the second antenna exceeds a threshold when the first antenna operates with different codes.
[0157] According to one embodiment, the first antenna may be positioned in a lower region of the electronic device, and the second antenna may be positioned in an upper region of the electronic device. One or more processors may be positioned in an intermediate region between the lower region and the upper region. The one or more processors may be communicatively connected to the first antenna and the second antenna via a radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC).
[0158] In one embodiment, if the first antenna is determined to be the main transmitting antenna, the first antenna may operate as a sub-receiving antenna while operating as the main transmitting antenna. If the second antenna is determined to be the main receiving antenna, the second antenna may operate as a sub-receiving antenna while operating as the main receiving antenna.
[0159] According to one embodiment, one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media may store one or more computer programs including computer-executable instructions, which when individually or collectively executed by one or more processors of the electronic device may cause the electronic device to determine whether a first antenna operates with a transmission code among AIT codes. The computer-executable instructions, when individually or collectively executed by one or more processors of the electronic device, may cause the electronic device to determine whether a first condition for reception quality of the first antenna and the second antenna is satisfied when the first antenna operates with the transmission code. The computer-executable instructions, when individually or collectively executed by one or more processors of the electronic device, may cause the electronic device to determine whether a second condition for reception quality of the first antenna and the second antenna is satisfied when the first antenna operates with another code. The computer-executable instructions, when individually or collectively executed by one or more processors of the electronic device, may cause the electronic device to control the second antenna to operate as the main transmitting antenna if both the first condition and the second condition are satisfied by the electronic device.
[0160] In one embodiment, determining whether the first condition is satisfied may include determining, by the electronic device, whether a first RSRP delta value for the first antenna and the second antenna exceeds a threshold when the first antenna is operating with a transmit code.
