Method and apparatus for the automatic real-time detection and correction of red-eye defects in batches of digital images or in handheld appliances

An automatic, red-eye detection and correction system for digital images capable of real-time processing of images, including a red-eye detector module that determines without user intervention if a red-eye defect exists. If a defect is located in an image the portion of the image surrounding the defect is passed to a correction module that de-saturates the red components of the defect while preserving the other color characteristics of the defect region. The invention is designed to minimize the computational resources required to detect and correct red-eye defects and thus is particularly suited to applications requiring real-time processing of large volumes of digital images prior to acquisition or printing. This system can operate on images stored on personal computers, commercial printers or inside digital cameras as part of the acquisition process, or prior to display on personal digital assistants, mobile phones and other digital imaging appliances.

Medical Data Display

A method of displaying medical data, particularly data representative of the condition of patients suffering from chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and hypertension. The display consists of two graphical elements, one of which indicates the current value of a parameter indicative of the patient's condition, this being displayed against another graphical element which represents a model of normality for that patient. The graphical element indicating the current condition may be, for example, a needle, against a scale which is constructed according to the patient-specific model of normality. This is particularly advantageous in the case of displays which have a small display area, such as mobile telephones and PDAs. Other forms of display are disclosed, such as histograms with the display being dynamically colour-coded and auto-scaled, or displays including limits which may vary. Another form of display is also disclosed which illustrates administrations of a pharmacological agent and corresponding measurements of the patient's condition, with a visual link such as colour-coding linking the administration to the corresponding condition measurement. For example several days of insulin administration dosages may be displayed alongside several days of blood glucose measurements, with the administrations colour-coded to the corresponding blood glucose measurement, to assist the patient in determining whether the insulin administration is stably controlling their condition.

Electronic lock system and method for its use

An improved electronic lock system is provided for use with real estate lock boxes where there is the need for many people to access the secured compartment of the lock box in a controlled manner. Each user has an identification card with a non-volatile secure memory (known as a “smart card”), for exchanging data with the lock box, and with a portable computer capable of reading data from the smart card; or a cell phone can be used to gain access information from a central computer. The user first inserts the smart card into the connector attached to the lock box; the lock box reads the user's ID stored in the smart card memory and records this information in lock box memory. The lock box then transfers its access code information and other data to the smart card for further processing. The user then inserts the smart card in a portable card reader to learn the access code, or calls a central computer via a mobile phone system and interacts with the computer to elicit the necessary access code information. The access code is then manually keyed into the lock box keypad by the user to obtain access to the secure compartment.

Web interaction system which enables a mobile telephone to interact with web resources

A web interaction system which enables a mobile telephone to interact automatically with web resources, in which the web interaction system comprises a query engine which operates on XML format data, translated from data obtained from a web site, the query engine parsing the XML into SAX events which are then queried by the query engine. Conventional query engines parse XML into a data object model (DOM) tree and not SAX events; DOM trees can however occupy significant memory space. SAX events on the other hand can be queried as parsing progresses (i.e. no need to wait for an entire DOM tree to be constructed before queries can be first performed). Not needing to wait for an entire web document to download is a major advantage since this would otherwise be a major bottleneck.

Transferring Graphic Objects Between Non-Augmented Reality and Augmented Reality Media Domains

A display of an augmented reality-enabled (AR) device, such as a mobile phone, can be used to transfer a graphical object between a secondary display, such as a computer monitor, that is captured by a camera of the AR device, and AR space, where the object is visible only through the AR interface of the AR device. A graphical object can be selected through the AR interface and, for example, moved around on a canvas of the secondary display by the user of the AR device. When the AR interface is used to move an enabled object near an edge of the canvas or physical boundary of the secondary display, the object as shown on the secondary display can be made to disappear from the secondary display to be replaced by a virtual object shown only on the AR interface in a similar location.

Apparatus and methods for the storage of overlapping regions of imaging data for the generation of optimized stitched images

Apparatus and methods for stitching images, or re-stitching previously stitched images. Specifically, the disclosed systems in one implementation save stitching information and / or original overlap source data during an original stitching process. During subsequent retrieval, rendering, and / or display of the stitched images, the originally stitched image can be flexibly augmented, and / or re-stitched to improve the original stitch quality. Practical applications of the disclosed solutions enable, among other things, a user to create and stitch a wide field of view (FOV) panorama from multiple source images on a device with limited processing capability (such as a mobile phone or other capture device). Moreover, post-processing stitching allows for the user to convert from one image projection to another without fidelity loss (or with an acceptable level of loss).

System for Dynamic Spectral Correction of Audio Signals to Compensate for Ambient Noise

The present invention features systems for adjusting audio signals by applying a gain to the signal in a spectrally varying manner to compensate for ambient noise in the environment of the listener. The system allows a listener to hear what ought to be heard, over the ambient noise, by applying a gain to the source that varies according to the spectral composition of the noise, rather than cancelling or filtering the noise. The spectral composition of the source is thus preserved in the listener's awareness without the removal of the noise signal. After application of these corrective gains to the source, the listener's perception of the source sound is as if the noise was not present. Systems may be incorporated into apparatuses including but not limited to mobile phones and music players.

Broadcast gaming

The present invention provides a novel broadcast gaming methods and devices. Some implementations involve broadcasting real-time video streams of game content to a player's receiver, such as a television, a mobile phone, a computer, etc. Various games may be simultaneously broadcast on separate channels. Players can purchase time slots during which the players will passively participate in the wins or losses of a game. Alternatively, players may elect to financially participate in a predetermined number of games. Based on the outcomes of games in which a player participates, a player's pre-established account is either debited or credited. Players may view gaming content at the time of broadcast or record it for later viewing.
