[0043] As used herein, the term “network device” refers to a node in a communication network via which a terminal device accesses the network and receives services therefrom. The network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP) , for example, a node B (NodeB or NB) , an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , an NR NB (also referred to as a gNB) , a Remote Radio Unit (RRU) , a radio header (RH) , a remote radio head (RRH) , a relay, an Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) node, a low power node such as a femto, a pico, a non-terrestrial network (NTN) or non-ground network device such as a satellite network device, a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite and a geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) satellite, an aircraft network device, and so forth, depending on the applied terminology and technology. In some example embodiments, radio access network (RAN) split architecture comprises a Centralized Unit (CU) and a Distributed Unit (DU) at an IAB donor node. An IAB node comprises a Mobile Terminal (IAB-MT) part that behaves like a UE toward the parent node, and a DU part of an IAB node behaves like a base station toward the next-hop IAB node.
[0044] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a Subscriber Station (SS) , a Portable Subscriber Station, a Mobile Station (MS) , or an Access Terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (IoT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (e.g., remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (e.g., a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.
[0045] As used herein, the term “resource, ” “transmission resource, ” “resource block, ” “physical resource block” (PRB) , “uplink resource, ” or “downlink resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, for example, a communication between a terminal device and a network device, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, or any other combination of the time, frequency, space and / or code domain resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, unless explicitly stated, a resource in both frequency domain and time domain will be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains. The term “wireless power transfer (WPT) ” or “wireless charging” used herein may refer to a technology that allows transmission of energy through an air gap to a load without any interconnection cables.
[0046] Device to device (D2D) has been defined as a support for Proximity Services (ProSe) . D2D enables the quick exchange of data over short distances via a direct l ink, i.e., sidelink (SL) , between nodes and introduces a new interface, i.e., PC5, between nodes. This offers an efficient way to bypass the base station and offload the gNB traffic. Besides content sharing, a D2D UE can act as a relay for another device with a poor connection to the base station and, therefore, D2D can be used to extend cellular network coverage for out of coverage (OOC) UEs. Two modes have been defined for centralized and distributed scheduling of UE transmissions, namely Mode 1 and Mode 2. Centralized scheduling occurs at the base station (in-coverage mode) , whereas distributed scheduling is carried out by the D2D UEs themselves, with no need to be in the coverage area of a base station (out-of-coverage mode) . In Mode 1, the UEs are scheduled by the gNB over dedicated radio resources for data transmission. In Mode 2, a UE can autonomously select a radio resource from a resource pool, which is either configured by the network or pre-configured in the user device for its direct D2D communication over PC5 interface.
[0047] A Single Frequency Network (SFN) is a network of transmitting stations or devices that use the same frequency to transmit the same information. A Single Frequency Network is a means to extend the coverage area without the use of additional frequencies. It is to be noted that the term ‘frequency’ here is meant for resources in general that may comprise other domains such as time, code, information format. SFN transmissions from transmitting stations or devices may appear as a single transmission to a receiver. A SFN is particularly interesting for broadcasting. Both T-DAB (digital radio via terrestrial transmitters) and DVB-T (digital television via terrestrial transmitters) have the possibility for a single frequency network. A SFN can be used with other radio communication systems, such as wireless local area networks and Cellular networks as well.
[0048] Passive IoT refers to an IoT technology that is to be “greener” compared to existing IoT technologies such as 3GPP Narrow Band IoT (NB-IoT) or Long Term Evolution Machine Type Communication (LTE-M) , as Passive IoT devices such as sensors or IoT tags are typically to be powered through energy harvesting. Passive IoT device or tag comprises an energy harvester. Early forms of passive IoT can already be found in commercial applications (e.g., RFID) . In order to trigger Ambient / Passive IoT device for energy harvesting and fulfil requirements in RAN, below observed problems need to be solved.
[0049] According to some example embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for WPT from one or more UE to a device, e.g., an IoT device or IoT tag, utilizing sidelink communication. It proposes an inter-UE Coordination (IUC) -based procedure for providing on-demand WPT for the device, exploring SFN as it is desirable that WPT is provided by more than one WPT capable UEs in proximity of the device in SFN fashion to overcome limitations on Tx power and SL resource of single UE. In particular, the device is in need of charging via WPT over sidelink for its communications and operations on the fly, utilizing dynamically allocated frequency and time resources. The device is able to control sidelink WPT transmission power to obtain a best radio frequency to direct current (RF-DC) conversion efficiency. In this way, it can achieve on-demand WPT to the device. The device can be charged in time. Further, the best RF-DC conversion efficiency can also be achieved.
[0050] FIG. 1 illustrates an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. In the communication environment 100, there are an apparatus 110-1 and an apparatus 110-2 which are collectively referred to as “first apparatus 110. ” It is noted that the communication environment 100 may include any proper number of first apparatus 110.
[0051] The communication environment 100 may also include an apparatus 120 which can be also referred to as “second apparatus 120” . It is noted that the communication environment 100 may include any proper number of second apparatus 120. The communication environment 100 may further include an apparatus 130, also referred to as “third apparatus 130” . It is noted that the communication environment 100 may include any proper number of third apparatus 130. It is further noted that there may be other apparatus (es) inter-connected with third apparatus (es) for serving the communication environment 100.
[0052] In the following, for the purpose of illustration, some example embodiments are described with the first apparatus 110 operating as a terminal device, the second apparatus 120 operating as a device such as a passive IoT device (or an IoT tag) , and the third apparatus 130 operating as a network device. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.
[0053] In some example embodiments, a link from the third apparatus 130 to the first apparatus 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , and a link from the first apparatus 110 to the third apparatus 130 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the third apparatus 130 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the first apparatus 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the first apparatus 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the third apparatus 130 is a RX device (or a receiver) .
[0054] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) , the sixth generation (6G) , and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.
[0055] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0056] Reference may be now made to FIG. 2, which shows a signaling chart 300 for communication according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. Only for the purpose of illustration, the signaling chart 200 involves the apparatus 110-1 (also referred to the first apparatus or the first device 110-1) , the apparatus 110-2 (also referred to the first apparatus or the first device 110-2) , the apparatus 120 (also referred to as the second apparatus or the second device 120) , the apparatus 130 (also referred to as third apparatus or third device 130) . For example, the apparatus 110-1 may be a serving relay UE for the apparatus 120, the apparatus 110-2 may be a collaborative WPT UE, the apparatus 120 may be a passive IoT device or tag (e.g. wireless tag or wireless tag device) , and the apparatus 130 may be a network node, for example, gNB. In an embodiment, the apparatus 130 is or comprises a UE.
[0057] The apparatus 120 determines (2005) whether to transmit a request for a WPT to one or more devices that are capable of proving the WPT to the apparatus 120. The apparatus 120 may determine whether to transmit the request for the WPT based on one or more of: a demand of the apparatus 120 for the WPT, a capability of the apparatus 120, or whether the apparatus 120 is indicated to skip the request or not by the apparatus 130. For example, if an energy level at the apparatus 120 is below a threshold level, the apparatus 120 may determine to transmit the request for the WPT. For example, the apparatus 120 may determine that energy level of the apparatus 120 is below a threshold level and based on the determining transmit the request for WPT. In general, the apparatus 120 may determine that at least one energy level criterion is satisfied, and based on determining that the at least one energy level criterion is satisfied (e.g. energy level is below threshold) , transmit the request for WPT. Alternatively, if the energy level at the apparatus 120 is not below the threshold level, the apparatus 120 may determine not to transmit the request for the WPT. In general, the apparatus 120 may determine that at least one other energy level criterion is satisfied, and based on determining that the at least one other energy level criterion is satisfied (e.g. energy level is above or equal to threshold) , not transmit the request for WPT. Or the apparatus 120 may determine that the at least one energy level criterion is not satisfied, and based on determining that the at least one energy level criterion is not satisfied (e.g. energy level is above or equal to threshold and not below the threshold) , not transmit the request for WPT.
[0058] In some example embodiments, if the apparatus 120 is capable of transmitting the request for the WPT, the apparatus 120 may determine to transmit the request for the WPT. In other words, the WPT request capable apparatus 120 may (determine to) transmit the request. In some other example embodiments, if the apparatus 120 is not capable of transmitting the request for the WPT, the apparatus 120 may determine not to transmit the request for the WPT. In some further example embodiments, the apparatus 120 is capable of transmitting the request for the WPT but not capable of providing certain information such as resource allocation information along with the request. In this case, the apparatus 120 may determine to transmit the request for the WPT without certain information.
[0059] Alternatively, if the apparatus 120 is told to skip the request for the WPT by the apparatus 130, the apparatus 120 may determine not to transmit the request for the WPT. If the apparatus 120 is told not to skip the request for the WPT, the apparatus 120 may determine to transmit the request for the WPT. For example, if the apparatus 120 receives a location request from the apparatus 130, it may implicitly indicate that the apparatus 120 can skip the request for the WPT. For example, the apparatus 120 may skip the request (i.e. determine not to transmit or not transmit the request) based on receiving an indication to skip the request (e.g. location request from the apparatus 130) .
[0060] The apparatus 110-1 obtains (2010) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 120. In some example embodiments, the apparatus 110-1 may receive the request for the WPT from the apparatus 120. For example, as shown in FIG. 3A, the apparatus 120 may transmit (3010) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 110-1. In this case, in some example embodiments, the apparatus 120 may be configured to discover and select one or more available WPT capable UE (s) in proximity for the WPT. For example, the apparatus 120 may determine the one or more available WPT capable UEs based on a measurement between the apparatus 120 and the one or more available WPT capable UEs. For example, the one or more available WPT capable UEs may be selected based on at least one of: a reference signal received power (RSRP) between the apparatus 120 and the WPT capable UE, or actual capability and capacity (such as, maximum transmission (TX) power class and affordable Tx power) of the WPT capable UE. The apparatus 120 may indicate to the selected WPT capable UE whether the WPT is to be provided in regular unicast fashion (e.g., if a single WPT capable UE is selected) or in SFN fashion (e.g., if more than one WPT capable UEs are selected) . For example, as shown in FIG. 3A, if the apparatus 110-1 is selected, the apparatus 120 may transmit (3010) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 110-1 via unicast (for example, a beamformed unicast message) . Alternatively, if the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 110-2 are selected, the apparatus 120 may transmit (3010 and 3010’) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 110-2 via broadcast. In some embodiments, the apparatus 120 may skip performing the discovery and selection of one or more available WPT capable UEs before broadcasting the request for the WPT. In this case, any available WPT capable UE in proximity of the apparatus 120 may provide the WPT to the apparatus 120 in response to the request. In some other embodiments, after receiving the request for the WPT from the apparatus 120 (for example, via unicast) , the apparatus 110-1 may transmit (3020) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 110-2 (for example, via broadcast) .
[0061] Alternatively, the apparatus 110-1 may receive the request for the WPT from the apparatus 130. For example, the apparatus 130 may transmit a location request for the location of the apparatus 120 to the apparatus 120 (i.e. requesting location or location information of the apparatus 120) . The location request may indicate that the apparatus 120 does not need to transmit the request. In other words, based on the indication, the apparatus 120 may determine not to transmit the request for the WPT. After receiving the location request, the apparatus 120 may transmit location information of the apparatus 120 to the apparatus 130. If the received location information indicates that a location of the apparatus 120 is within a preconfigured area and a measured RSRP between the apparatus 120 and the apparatus 130 is below a threshold, the apparatus 130 may determine that the WPT is needed at the apparatus 120. Alternatively, if a measured timing advance of the apparatus indicates the location of the apparatus 120 is within a preconfigured area and a measured RSRP between the apparatus 120 and the apparatus 130 is below a threshold, the apparatus 130 may determine that the WPT is needed at the apparatus 120. In some example embodiments, a WPT resource pool configuration may be transmitted by the apparatus 130 to the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 110-2 via system information block (SIB) or radio resource control (RRC) message. In this case, as shown in FIG. 3B, the apparatus 130 may also transmit (3110) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 110-1 and let the apparatus 110-1 to trigger other collaborative WPT capable UE in proximity for proving the WPT to the apparatus 120. The apparatus 110-1 may transmit (3120) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 110-2. In some example embodiments, the apparatus 130 may indicate the apparatus 110-1 to use maximum allowed power for a transmission of the WPT.
[0062] In some example embodiments, the apparatus 130 may transmit (3205, 3205’) a WPT resource pool configuration to the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 110-2 via system information block (SIB) or radio resource control (RRC) message, as shown in FIG. 3C. The WPT resource pool configuration is to be used for sidelink transmissions in providing WPT. In some further example embodiments, the apparatus 120 may transmit (3210) the request for the WPT to the apparatus 110-1 which is an associated serving UE of the apparatus 120, such as a serving relay UE, via unicast, as shown in FIG. 3C. The apparatus 110-1 may broadcast (3220) the request for the WPT with a resource allocation determined and selected by the apparatus 110-1.
[0063] The request for the WPT includes one or more of: an identity of the apparatus 120, location information of the apparatus 120, resource allocation information for the WPT, or an indication regarding whether the request is limited to WPT capable device that receives the request before the wireless power transfer is initiated (or is performed) . In some embodiments, the request for the WPT may be realized as a combination of layer 1 (L1) and layer 2 (L2) medium access control (MAC) signaling. For example, sidelink control information (SCI) and MAC control element (CE) can be used for transmitting the request for the WPT.
[0064] For example, the apparatus 110-1 may determine to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120 based on the identity of the apparatus 120 included in the request for the WPT. In some example embodiments, the request for the WPT may explicitly include the identity of the apparatus 120. Alternatively, the identity of the apparatus 120 may be used for the transmission of the request for the WPT. For example, the identity of the apparatus 120 may be included in the request for the WPT or may be used as Source (SRC) UE ID instead of the ID of the apparatus 110-1 for SL transmission of the request for the WPT. The apparatus 120 (i.e., the serving relay UE) may transmit the request. In this case, a part of the identity of the apparatus 120 may be transmitted in SCI and the remaining part of the identity of the apparatus 120 may be in the header of MAC protocol data unit (PDU) carrying the request for the WPT.
[0065] In some example embodiments, the resource allocation information may include one or more of: an expected power / energy for the WPT, a transmission pattern for the WPT, or a time interval for the WPT. In some example embodiments, the resource allocation for the WPT may be dynamically determined and selected by the apparatus 120 for its own need. This may be applicable if the apparatus 120 has needed capability especially when sharing SL resources with regular SL UEs. In this regard, in case the apparatus 120 does not have the needed capability, but it is communicating via a serving relay UE (i.e., the apparatus 110-1) that has the needed capability, the apparatus 120 may request the apparatus 110-1 to perform the on-demand WPT requesting procedure for the apparatus 120. In this case, as mentioned above, the request for the WPT from the apparatus 120 to the apparatus 110-1 may be over unicast SL between them. The request for the WPT may then be broadcasted by the apparatus 110-1 with the resource allocation determined and selected by the apparatus 110-1. In this case, the identity of the apparatus120 may be included in the request for the WPT or may be used as SRC ID instead of L2 ID of the apparatus 110-1 for transmitting the request of the WPT on behalf of the apparatus 120.
[0066] In some example embodiments, the resource allocation for the WPT may be restricted by the serving network such that the amounts of time-frequency resources, transmission formats and parameters (modulation coding scheme (MCS) , transport block (TB) size, number of blind hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) repetition, and the like) as well as (periodic) patterns (i.e., how often and for how long) for transmitting the message used for WPT may be configured to the apparatus 120 and WPT capable UEs (for example, the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 110-2) . This may be realized by specifying a set of WPT transmission profiles for the request of the WPT corresponding to constraints or restrictions of the serving network on allowable WPT that the apparatus 120 may request for its charging need. Thus, ID of the selected WPT transmission profile may be used effectively for reducing signaling overhead as well, as there is no need to signal all the control information that can be mapped from the indicated ID of the selected WPT transmission profile (e.g., in SCI and MAC CE used for WPT) . For example, the apparatus 130 may transmit or allocate an ID of a WPT profile to the apparatus 120. After receiving the ID of the WPT profile from the apparatus 130, the apparatus 120 may determine a WPT profile based on the ID of the WPT profile and a set of preconfigured WPT profiles. In some embodiments, the resource allocation information in the request for WPT may include an ID of a selected WPT profile among the set of preconfigured WPT profiles. In some further embodiments, a resource allocation for wireless power transfer is assigned with a highest priority and is allowed to be selected within a preconfigured resource pool. For example, the resource allocation for WPT may be assigned with highest priority for possible pre-emption and therefore may be allowed to be selected using simple random selection within some (pre) configured resource pool (s) .
[0067] In some other example embodiments, the resource allocation for WPT may be allocated by the apparatus 130 as well, if the apparatus 120 or the apparatus 110-1 that transmits the request for the WPT on behalf of the apparatus 120 is in a RRC connected state and requests resources from the apparatus 130 for the WPT.
[0068] The apparatus 110-1 may determine whether to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120. For example, the apparatus 110-1 may determine whether to provide the WPT based on the location information of the apparatus 120 in the request for the WPT. By way of example, the apparatus 110-1 may estimate a distance between the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 120 based on the location information of the apparatus 120. In this case, if the distance is below a distance threshold, the apparatus 110-1 may determine to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120. Alternatively, or in addition, the apparatus 110-1 may determine whether to provide the WPT based on at least one of: the estimated distance or a RSRP on the request for the WPT.
[0069] Referring back to FIG. 2, the apparatus 110-1 may determine (2015) a transmission power. For example, the apparatus 110-1 may determine a transmission power for the WPT based on the estimated distance. By way of example, the transmission power may increase when the estimated distance increases. In some other example embodiments, the apparatus 110-1 may determine to use the allowed maximum transmission power.
[0070] The apparatus 110-1 determines (2020) a message to be transmitted for the WPT based on the request. That is, the apparatus 110-1 may generate a WPT signal to be transmitted for the WPT. For example, determining the message for the WPT may include generating the message for the WPT. The apparatus 120 may monitor the message for the WPT. In some example embodiments, the apparatus 110-1 may also generate sidelink control information for the transmission of the message.
[0071] The apparatus 110-1 transmits (2025) the message for the WPT at least to the apparatus 120, for example, via unicasting the message (2025) . In other words, the apparatus 120 receives the message for the WPT from the apparatus 110-1. In addition, the apparatus 110-1 may transmit (2025’) the message for the WPT to the apparatus 110-2, for example, via broadcasting the message (2025) . In other words, the apparatus 110-2 may receive the message for the WPT from the apparatus 110-1. The apparatus 110-1 may transmit the message for the WPT and the sidelink control information in single frequency network with the apparatus 110-2 that also transmits the message for the WPT. In this way, it can achieve on-demand WPT to the device. The apparatus 120 can be charged in time, thereby avoiding latency.
[0072] In some example embodiments, as mentioned above, the request may include the resource allocation information. In this case, the apparatus 110-1 may transmit the message for the WPT based on the resource allocation information. For example, the apparatus 110-1 may transmit the message for the WPT based on the expected power / energy for the WPT included in the request. Alternatively, or in addition, the message for the WPT may be transmitted for several times based on the time interval for the WPT. In some other embodiments, the message for the WPT may be transmitted based on the transmission pattern for the WPT indicated in the request for the WPT.
[0073] In some embodiments, the message for the WPT may include the request for the WPT. For example, the message 2025 for the WPT from the apparatus 110-1 to the apparatus 120 may include request for WPT. In this way the message 2025 for the WPT may be used to provide energy for the apparatus 120 and additionally and beneficially indicate to other devices, such as apparatus 110-2, about the need to provide energy to the apparatus 120. Alternatively, the transmission of the message for the WPT may (implicitly) indicate the request for the WPT. The message for the WPT may include one or more of: an identity of the apparatus 120, location information of the apparatus 120, resource allocation information for the WPT, or an indication regarding whether the request is limited to WPT capable device that receives the request before the wireless power transfer is initiated (i.e. before it has started or taking place) . For example, based on the message for the WPT including identity of the apparatus 120, the apparatus 110-2 may determine to transmit another WPT message to the apparatus 120 as shown with arrow 2030. For example, in such case the message 2030 may be a unicast message. For example, based on the message for the WPT including location information of the apparatus 120 (e.g. indicating absolute or relative location of the apparatus 120) , the apparatus 110-2 may determine to transmit another WPT message to the apparatus 120 as shown with arrow 2030. For example, in such case the message 2030 may be a broadcast message.
[0074] In an example, the message for the WPT may be the request itself with specified padding to fill in a transport block carrying the request for transmission. In another example, the message may be a specified dummy one that can be multiplexed with the request in form of a MAC CE in a MAC PDU to form the transport block.
[0075] In some example embodiments, the apparatus 110-1 may generate the message for the WPT and sidelink control information for SFN transmission based on the request received or obtained. In an example embodiment, the message for the WPT may be a unicast message to be sent to the apparatus 120, i.e., L2 ID of the apparatus 120 is used as Destination (DST) ID for sending the WPT message. Alternatively, the message for the WPT may be a broadcast message, i.e., a common preconfigured broadcast L2 ID is used for sending the message for WPT. In this case, other devices or UEs in proximity may detect and make use of the ongoing WPT initiated by the apparatus 120 for charging themselves by monitoring the message and harvesting power from the broadcast transmissions of the message. The L2 ID of the apparatus 120 or a preconfigured L2 ID may be used as the common SRC ID for sending the message for WPT. The preconfigured L2 ID, either for SRC ID or DST ID for SL transmission of the message, may also be used for indicating that the SL transmission is for the WPT message or, that is, WPT.
[0076] In some example embodiments, the apparatus 110-1 may generate SCI for transmitting the message for the WPT based on the request. The transmission of SCI may be a part of a SL transmission of a transport block (TB) . The SCI may indicate that sidelink transmission associated with the SCI is for WPT. In some embodiments, the SCI may also indicate the resource allocation and reservation information (in 1st-stage SCI) and transmission control information (in 2nd-stage SCI) for facilitating sensing operation as well as decoding and handling the TB.
[0077] In some example embodiments, the apparatus 110-2 may not receive the request for the WPT before the WPT is initiated but receive the message comprising the request for the WPT from the apparatus 110-1 during the WPT or after the WPT is imitated (i.e., the WPT takes place) . In this case, in some example embodiments, the apparatus 110-2 may determine whether to get involved in SFN transmission for providing the WPT for the apparatus 120 or not. For example, the apparatus 110-2 may determine whether to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120 based on the indication regarding whether the request is limited to wireless power transfer capable apparatus that receives the request before the WPT taking place or not in the message for the WPT. For example, if the indication indicates that the request is not limited to wireless power transfer capable apparatus that receives the request before the WPT is initiated, the apparatus 110-2 may determine to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120. Alternatively, or additionally, the apparatus 110-2 may determine whether to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120 based on other conditions such as distance from the apparatus 120 based on the location information of the apparatus 120 as indicated in the received message for the WPT. For example, if the distance is below a distance threshold, the apparatus 110-2 may determine to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120. In some other example embodiments, the apparatus 110-2 may determine whether to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120 based on its own affordable TX power. For example, if the affordable TX power is above a power threshold, the apparatus 110-2 may determine to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120. The apparatus 110-2 may determine whether to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120 based on RSRP on the received message for the WPT. If the RSRP on the received message for the WPT is below a RSRP threshold, it means that not many WPT capable UEs providing WPT for the apparatus 120. In this case, the apparatus 110-2 may determine to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120.
[0078] If the apparatus 110-2 determines to provide the WPT to the apparatus 120, the apparatus 110-2 may transmit (2030) the message for the WPT and the sidelink control information to the apparatus 120, for example, via unicast or broadcast in SFN with the apparatus 110-1. That is, the apparatus 110-2 may transmit the message for the WPT in a SFN with the apparatus 110-1. In other words, the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 110-2 may use the same frequency to transmit the message for the WPT and the sidelink control information. The apparatus 110-2 may determine the transmission power for the message for the WPT and determine the message for the WPT in a similar way as the apparatus 110-1. Details are omitted for clarity.
[0079] In some example embodiments, the apparatus 120 may determine a total amount of power based on the number of terminal devices that perform the wireless power transfer. For example, in an example embodiment, the apparatus 120 may count the number of broadcasted requests for the WPT by the terminal devices including the apparatus 110-1. Alternatively, or additionally, the apparatus 120 may count the number of unicasted requests for the WPT by the apparatus 120 and the number of broadcasted requests for the WPT by the terminal devices including the apparatus 110-1. The apparatus 120 may determine transmission power control information based on a comparison between the total amount of power and an input power threshold. For example, the apparatus 120 may harvest radio frequency (RF) energy from signaled RF resource of the message and convert harvested RF energy to direct current during a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle. The apparatus 120 may measure the total harvested power and compare it with a specific input power level which may provide the best RF-DC conversion efficiency. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, there is a general microwave rectifier conversion efficiency curve at different input power, where the efficiency firstly increases monotonically to its maximum value at a specific input power level 410 and then decreases as the input power becomes larger. The diode efficiency change at the low input power region and the high input power region are caused by the following two different mechanisms, respectively, loss due to forward diode build-in potential in the low input power region and loss due to diode breakdown voltage in the high input power region. The delta value between the total harvest signal power and the best input power may be used for determining the SL-WPT transmission power control (TPC) command, e.g., divided evenly according to all potential transmitters, or part of potential transmitters.
[0080] Referring back to FIG. 2, the apparatus 120 may transmit (2040) the transmission power control information to the apparatus 110-1. If the apparatus 110-2 also provides the WPT to the apparatus 120, the apparatus 120 may also transmit (2040’) the transmission power control information to the apparatus 110-2. The transmission power control information may indicate increasing or decreasing transmission power.
[0081] In some example embodiments, the transmission power control information may be common to all serving WPT UEs (i.e., transmitting via broadcast) or dedicated to an identified serving WPT UE (i.e., transmitting via unicast) . The transmission power control information may be realized using a MAC CE or SCI and thus there may be room for some further control information such as how much up or down is needed. Upon receiving the transmission power control information, the apparatus 110-1 may adjust (2045) the transmission power and the apparatus 110-2 may adjust (2045’) the transmission power. For example, the apparatus 110-1 may perform: (i) adjusting its power; and / or (ii) using random backoff, e.g., to skip transmitting the message for the WPT in a next scheduled occasion with a determined or configured probability, in the case of over-supply. This may be the so-called “Sidelink WPT Close Loop Charging” with RF-DC conversion efficiency supported. In this way, it can achieve the beast RF-DC conversion efficiency.
[0082] The apparatus 120 may transmit (2050) a WPT stop message to the apparatus 110-1. In some example embodiments, the WPT stop message may be transmitted at any time during the requested charging period. If the apparatus 110-2 also provides the WPT to the apparatus 120, the apparatus 120 may transmit (2050’) the WPT stop message to the apparatus 110-2. The WPT stop message may be transmitted via unicasting or broadcasting, similar to the transmission power control information described above. Upon receiving the stop message, the apparatus 110-1 and the apparatus 110-2 may stop transmitting the message for the WPT.
[0083] The apparatus 110-1 may transmit (2055) a report about the WPT provided to the apparatus 120 to the apparatus 130. If the apparatus 110-2 also provides the WPT to the apparatus 120, the apparatus 110-2 may transmit (2055’) the report about its provided WPT to the apparatus 130.
[0084] FIG. 5 shows a flowchart of an example method 500 implemented at a first device (for example, the terminal device) in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the first device may be the apparatus 110-1 in FIG. 1.
